Back to first Photo
When I have Elements Catalog open and select a file to edit I can edit it with elements.
When I am done editing and close the file then in the catalog the first file in that view is selected and not the one I just edited.
I keep scrolling back to the selected file which is annoying...is that a feature, which can be set/unset or a bug?

This usually happens in Display > Folder Location view, which has a number of bugs:

If you use Display > Thumbnail View, the selection should remain on the photo you justed edited.

My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6. I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto. However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup. It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
Does anyone have any suggestions?I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box? If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings -
updated my iphone 4 today to new operating system...said error 50 and i lost all my previous data...there is no back up to get my contacts and photos back although it did say it was backing up first before it installed the new operating system but i cant find it anywhere...so frustrated at losing everything

I changed from one iPhone to another and backed the first one up to the icloud. I have restored the content to my new iphone but cannot download the photos. Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Photos and some other items are added back after the restore has completed, you may need to wait a while. -
I backed up 6000+ photos from Snow Leopard iMac v.10.6.7 to new Western Digital "My book" successfully, I think! But when I attempted to COPY my photos to it in order to free up space on my HD, I made a mistake. When I dragged the iPhoto (11) Library to My Book and re-named it to "iPhoto Library.old" nothing happened. So I dragged it again, re-named it again (same name--that was the mistake, I guess!) and then it took about an hour+ to do its thing. When finished and I launched iPhoto by holding down the Option key, the dialog window listed two libraries: "iPhoto Library.old" and iPhoto Library.old (default)". So now what? It seems that I still have the originals when I open iPhoto, and do I have two copies, also? Should I delete one of them and if so, which one and how? Or should I eliminate both of them and start over again? And if so, how do I do that? Right now, neither my HD nor the My Book have changed the number of GB available or free since before I began this process. Will the numbers only change after I actually delete my original Library AND empty the Trash? I appreciate any light you can throw on this subject for me. I could lug it all to the local Genius Bar, but now I'm afraid to unplug anything for fear I'll lose everything! Thank you, you wonderful, bright people. (An 83-year-old Grandma, trying to keep up a little, at least)
Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).
Is there some way that I can rectify my mistakes and start all over?
Thank you so much for beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!

hello i just came back from the apple store and they had to restore my phone and i just downloaded all my apps and music back but my photos that are on icloud i only got 80 out of 768 back. what do i do to get all of them back?
If you tried to restore to your iCloud backup and your photos didn't fully restore, first go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure it isn't still in the process of restoring.
If the restore is complete and all your photos weren't restored, all you can do is try restoring the backup again. You might try the solution posted by ezjules in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589. This involves opening the photos app after the phone restarts and you provide the passwords for your Apple IDs, then leaving it open for the remainder of the restore process. -
I have an ipad 2 on ops 4.3 and have just updated to 7.1 via itunes. I backed up first and have synced repeatedly but keep getting a message on my ipdad screen that the ipad is not set up - I chose the set up option restore from itunes back up
To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit. -
First photo in event has wrong place
When you assign a place to an entire event, the first photo of the event will retain the LAST place assigned at a prior time. If you open up the event and click on a photo you will see the wrong place flash on the into window and then settle back to the right place. So you must open each event you assign a place and just select any photo. It will then be correct for all photos.
This was driving me nuts! Thanks for posting the fix.

ive got a new pc with windows 7 and my ipod touch 4th gen is synced with my old pc ,how can i back up the photos and music on the ipod to my new pc ?
Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier. Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

Aperture Jumping to First Photo in Browser List
My Aperture library photos are organized into Projects and Albums. I use List View to browse my photos. Within each Album, the photos are organized in numerical order from lowest to highest. I’m using the most current version of Aperture 3.
I generally do some photo post-processing using Adjustments in Aperture. However when I use Aperture to edit a photo (Crop for example), Aperture usually (but not always) loses my spot and jumps to the first photo in the Album. This is in the Browser list, though the current photo continues to be displayed in the Viewer. When Aperture jumps to the first photo in the list, it is incredibly annoying and time consuming to get back to where I was in the list.
If I just use a Preset in Adjustments, e.g., Quick Fixes > Auto Enhance (without cropping), Aperture generally maintains where I am in the Album browser list. I can just go to the next photo in the numerical sequence.
This has been going on since Aperture 2.1. I have a lot of volunteer work coming up and I would like Aperture to function properly. Does anyone have an idea how to eliminate this jump to the top of the list bug in Aperture?

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please? I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.

However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.

I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6.
1) Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?
2) Can I back up the newsstand to iCloud and save memory on the iPhone?
3) Can I back up the bookshelf to icloud and save memory on the iPhone?1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Syncing a moved folder is not bringing back all the photos to Lightroom
I have moved and renamed a folder in the external harddrive. Syncing that moved folder in lightroom is not working in bringing back all the photos to Lightroom - Although all the photos exist in that folder as I have confirmed through windows explorer.
Another Option: If I choose "import photos to this folder option" in LR and browse to the source to that folder - the missing photos are shown as shaded back and the import button (bottom right corner) is not highlighted. Therefore I cannot select these missing photos and hence cannot import them to the folder.
PLEASE ADVISE!In the Folders Panel, the original folder should be listed with a "?" mark, because Lightroom can no longer find it. Right-click on it, select "Find Missing Folder", then browse to and select the renamed folder in its new location.
Note....these type of problems will continue to happen if you continue to rename and/or move folders or files outside of Lightroom. Do it using Lightroom and no such problems will arise. -
