Back to mac audio

I am looking for a solution for audio with Back to mac. I downloaded soundfly and it works on my local network, but not when I am out out on the road connecting to my home computer. Any ideas?

Hello,
Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Good Mac Audio Interface

    Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a good Mac Audio Interface (preferably FireWire), and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions.
Currently I already have my microphone (Heil PR-40), and I'm looking for an audio interface which I can use to caputre the audio from the microphone in my Mac Pro.
I tried out a TC Konnekt Desktop 6 earlier, but for some reason it didn't seem to be working. The audio guy who helped me said that there was a problem with the device, and that the input audio level seemed to be way below what it's supposed to be. This resulted in no audio at all from the microphone
Does anyone have any suggestions for other Audio Interfaces ?
    Any help is welcome.
    Regards,
    Stefaan

    Hello Stefaan,
At the time I was comparing the MOTU 8Pre with the Presonus Firepod. Presonus has since changed their model and I am unfamiliar with the features the new model possesses so can not provide an accurate comparison between the two. It has been years but I can tell you what I remember.
MOTU has preamp available for all 8 inputs with optional phantom power support where Presonus had preamp input for only first 4 tracks and other 4 tracks had analog input without preamp. MOTU had inputs on back Presonus on front. MOTU had 24 bit 96khz recording I don't remember if Presonus did or not however it seems there is 24 bit depth 96khz on FP10 from reviewing their tech specs. MOTU had optical converter Oi don't see any on FP10. MOTU was just a better buy. There's LED audio level indicator on it FP10 doesn't have one and it seemed as though MOTU produced a better, more clear sound.
Only thing I liked about Presonus that MOTU did not have was in the knobs. The knobs on the Presonus were ratcheted so with every change in level you made with the knob the knob would "click" into place with the adjustment. This made for precise adjustment of input levels. The MOTU has fluid level knobs so when you make an adjustment the knobs moves smoothly when adjusted whereas the Presonus would click, click, click as you adjusted the level with the knob. This is one feature the MOTU lacks that Presonus has and I wish the MOTU 8Pre had this one feature. This has not caused any dramatic setback in my production workflow and I do not regret my purchase decision of choosing the MOTU 8Pre over the Presonus Firepod.
Both devices mentioned have a high demand for power and are unable to be powered through the computer bus. They need to be plugged in separately to work. You may find a more portable device meets your needs such as the bus powered ultralite-mk3. I have not used it but it looks like MOTU's solution for a portable, bus-powered preamp interface. mk3 and 8Pre look like they're in the same price range but you are giving up expandability features for portability. This may be a consideration if the work you do required mobility. For myself I do a lot of studio recording with the Mac Pro so I chose the 8Pre.

I have a similar problem: I switched from mac mail to Outlook 2011 as the default client, and want to switch back. Mailto links (eg from browser etc) default to Mail.  However, when I try to email a Word document as an attachment, it continues to open Outlook.  Outlook has a button in its prefs for making it the default client, but I don't see a way to turn this pref off in either Outlook or in Word.

It sounds like you destroyed your boot partition and the recovery partition.  Depending on it's age, your MacBook Air might be able to do a net boot.  Plug and ethernet connection into it and attempt to boot.  If it has the right firmware, it will find a net boot configuration on the net and boot that.  Then it will give you a Recovery Partition like display and allow you to reinstall the OS X version that came with it.... assuming that it was Lion or ML.  If your computer came with Snow Leopard, then even the net boot won't work.
At that point you need a bootable USB Key, or an external DVD drive AND a Snow Leopard installation DVD.
An Apple Store, if there is one nearby, MAY be able to get you going again.  However, whatever is on the SSD now will be toast too.

  • Should I back up my files with another external hard drive when I am already backing up time machine with my current external hard drive?  Or, should I just get a flash usb to back up my audio files?

I am not sure what is best to back up my audio lecture files?
Thank you so much for your kind help...I am very grateful and Blessings to you!

Two backups are better than one, especially if the files are important. So make sure Time Machine is set to back up your "audio lecture files", and copy them to a flash drive as well.
(Keep in mind that no-one but you knows how Time Machine is set up on your computer, or where you store your "audio lecture files", or how important they are for you.)

How did you copy files to the external drive, and what files did you copy? Did you drag and drop in the Finder? Use a clone utility? What files did not successfully copy?
If you reformatted the drive as part of your install, then you won't be able to recover any files from the drive. Reverting back to (reinstalling) 10.4 will not help you.
Do you have a complete-drive backup of your old system?

  • If you've changed your startup options on mac to start in windows, how do you fix and go back to mac on startup?

if you've changed your startup options on mac to start in windows, how do you fix and go back to mac. I can't get my mac to switch back to mac, it is like stuck in widows mode, I have tried holding down the options key upon start up and that did not fix it either.
Please help! Thank you so much!

The Apple drivers you install in Windows also puts a Startup Drive icon in the Task Bar. Choose that to change the startup disk back OS X.

Use the Flash Drive that came with your computer it has Snow Leopard installed on it. If you lost it or cannot find it then call Apple and they will replace it for you, I don't know how much they will charge.
BTW when installing MS Windows please follow the directions whether you are using Boot Camp or a vitualialization solution (Parallels, Fusion, etc.) had  you done this you would not have had any issues.

  • MacBook pro does not start. How can I back to Mac OS X Lion?

I have a MacBook Pro. On my MacBook i made three partition, then I installed window 8. After that I started windos and try to delete third partition by Administrator tool from windows operating system. After that my MacBook does not start. How can I back to Mac OS X Lion?
After that I again install windows 8 from a DVD. Windows start well, but I can not start Mac OS system, may be it was 10.6.  Sever times I tried to install OS X Lion 10.7 thought DVD, I could not. On MacBook I have a lot of important data.
What can I do. I want to a complete suggestion. Please help me to solve the problem.
My MacBook Pro model no. A1286.

You installed Windows improperly the result of which was to wipe out the bootloader for OS X. You can give this a try:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the OS X disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
If you are still unable to boot from the OS X volume then you will need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
This will destroy the Windows bootloader so you cannot boot into Windows. The solution is to remove all the partitions on the drive except the OS X partition, then expand the OS X partition to take up the entire drive.
Use Boot Camp Assistant in the Utilities folder to create a Windows partition on which you can install Windows. You cannot have any other partitions on the drive besides these two.
Now given all the above you may be able to install a third-party bootloader that would work with the setup you now have: Boot Runner 1.4.

  • Boot Camp, How to switch back to Mac OS X from Windows?

I successfully installed boot camp and Vista on my imac so I could watch netflix on my computer (other than that I have no use or patience for Vista or Windows). Now, I am in Windows Vista and am unable to switch back to Mac OS X. I have looked everywhere, including the Windows Help and Support and I can't see how to close Windows and get back to the good side.

Open the Control Panel, click on Startup Disk, and change the setting; this item will only appear if the Boot Camp drivers are installed. Alternatively, restart the computer with the X or Option keys held down; in the second case, select the Mac OS X system, push the button with the straight arrow, and change the startup disk from System Preferences afterwards.

  • I partitioned a small drive for a windows program, and now the computer only wants to boot to Windows.  How do I get back to Mac so I can have a choice of drives?

I partitioned a small drive for a windows program, and now the computer only wants to boot to Windows.  How do I get back to Mac so I can have a choice of drives?

That doesn't sound good. It sounds like the power outage might have corrupted the partition for OS X. I would suggest booting from the Install DVD that came with your Mac while holding down the C key. Once you have selected the language start up Disk Utility from the pull down menu and repair the disk. Once you have done that then repair permissions also.
