Back To My Mac multiple display screen sharing issue

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I've been unable to access one of my screens remotely via Screen Sharing and BTMM. It only shows the screen attached to the HDMI interface, it's as if the other display doesn't exist. There is no option to select the other display in the Screen Sharing View menu. In Mavericks it would by default show both screens and I could select one. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the Sharing function on the host Mac. The screen that it does share works perfectly, so it seems to just be a problem of recognizing the other display.
Host is a 2012 Mac Mini, client machine a MBP, both running 10.10.1.

Spoke with Apple who spoke with Apple and so on. Tech support for Apple Desktop Remote acknowledges (as best they could) that there is a bug/ problem. Yes, reverting to an older (3.5 - 3.4 ARDagent) solves the problem (short term ?). They captured my OS info and will get back to me in 3-5 days - how do you like them apples! So, revert to ARDagent 3.4 and you can remote connect - may try this later... will post if it works. Here's what's been posted on this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192451?start=0&tstart=0

  • Back to My Mac / Remote Management / Screen Sharing

I'm managing computers for my family spread across 3 states. I would love to get screen sharing working but it's just not happening. I've tried the steps in the following KB article and that's allowed me to access two mini servers (one 10.7 and one 10.6.8) at home. However, I can't access a MBP at home and I can't access my family's computers (via screen sharing) at all. Here's the KB article...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3486
Here's all I'm seeing (5 computers are "missing")
I've tried NAT port forwarding (Airport Extreme/Time Capsule) for "Apple Remote Desktop" to the computers internal IPs on ports 5900 & 3283. I've tried it without. I've tried both "Screen Sharing" and "Remote Management" in preferences. I've made sure I have my own account with admin privledges on all machines etc. This is, of course, all peppered with the occasionaly outburst of foul language...
    What am I missing?

  • Back to My Mac - Multiple computers

    Hello,
like many people on here I am the "home network administrator" wfor my wife, parents, youngin's etc...
We also tend to travel, so often we're not in the same home or even the same city/state.
I don't want them all logged in and syncing to my iCloud account, but I would like to be able to use Back to My Mac to help with random issues, and such as they come up.  Is there a way for me to set this up, so that they can all be using their own AppleID's for iCloud, iTunes, etc... for day to day, but that I can still remotely help them when needed?  I'm the center of contact for issues, system updates, etc..
none of them run as an administrator account, so I can sometimes help them using the screensharing through iChat, but then I can't really log out, and back in again.
It would be very nice to be able to connect into my account on their machines to troubleshoot stuff, do updates, etc...
Anyhow, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Screen sharing issues SL to 10.5.x

    Hi,
Anyone know of a work round for getting SL to access a 10.5.x server?
I have a mac mini (G4) running as my mail/radius/sql server etc. Since I've upgraded my iMac to SL I can no longer access the server console via screen sharing, it ends up in a loop asking for user name and password. I can still use my macbook which is on 10.5.x, but I prefer the big screen of the iMac.
Server tools (10.6) will not let me access the certificates on the server, so this is getting painful, I've resorted to booting the macbook in target mode and running the iMac form that !!

My suggestion is to use TeamViewer.com or LogMeIn.com as both of them can navigate the internet and home routes easily. And for non-commercial use, they are free. In addition, they provide end-to-end encryption of your connection.
If you insist on using Mac OS X screen sharing, you will need to configure your Mom's home network.
1st you need to configure her home router so that it "Port Forwards" port 5900 from the internet to your Mom's Mac.
You already know you need to enable Mac OS X Tiger's Remote Management.
To make connecting to your Mom easier, you should then get a free dynamic DNS name from some place like No-IP.com or DynDNS.org. Then install a dynamic DNS updating client on your Mom's iMac so it keeps the dynamic DNS name updated as your Mom's ISP changes her DHCP assigned IP address.
Personally, unless you like that sort of thing, I would go with TeamViewer.com or LogMeIn.com.

  • Screen Sharing issue with VNC from Mac to PC - Black Screen

I have a Mac mini at my place of work. From it, using the built-in VNC capabilities in Leopard, I am able to successfully VNC to any Windows-based PC. I have a Mac Pro at home that tomorrow I am taking to my office. From my home I VPN into my office and want to VNC to my computers from the Mac Pro sitting at home. VPN connects just fine and when I attempt to VNC, I get a response from the computer at work and am prompted for the password and then I get connected. The problem is that the VNC screen is black. I can see that I am connected to the right computer because it's name is at the top, but there is basically no display. Tomorrow the Mac Pro will leave my home to be placed in my office. However, I am going to get an iMac for my home and need this functionality. I anticipate that I will have a similar problem with the iMac and would like to get it fixed now. Any thoughts on why I am seeing this? BTW...VNC works fine using Chicken of the VNC on my old iMac G3 running Panther over the VPN.
    Thanx...Jon

I have the exact same problem! I can connect using RealVNC viewer, but, on Leopard's in-built Screen Sharing app, I can authenticate, and see the computer name on top, but, there is simply no display! I have opened all ports on my router, and completely doing away with the Leopard firewall also doesn't seem to help!
    Any leads yet?

  • Back to my mac multiple iCloud accounts

Is there a way to have multiple icloud accounts on one mac so to connect to other users via "Back to my Mac"?
When it was mobile me we use to have one ID we used at the office so all the computers were networked together even when working from home.
Now that it has switched to icloud everyone has their own account and cant use the Back to my mac feature anymore.
I have tried to add other accounts under user and groups/apple ID/+ add another account and when you enter the info it just disappears.

+1 - This is really a big step back as it sits. My reference point as a sysadmin is that the User and at least one other "person" or account should be able to be used. I hope this feature is coming back as I having found a way to get "Back to my (users) Mac" nor to "Find my (users) Mac" without compomising security and sharing an account.

  • Install Mac OS using Screen Sharing or VNC - is it possible?

I've always wondered how to do this: Is it possible to remote install a Mac OS (in this case Leopard and up) using screen sharing or a vnc connection, when once the remote machine restarts and boots from the installation volume, you know longer have those sharing capabilities?
Essentially I want to know how do you control a remote mac installation without having the ability to activate screen or vnc sharing options?
In our office setting, what I'd like to be able to do is make an image of our installation disc and save it on our server, an remotely install it on other computers in the office.

how would a remote machine be controlled without screen sharing or vnc control if it's booting from a disc or networked volume?
The normal way to mass deploy an upgrade across many macs on a local network is to setup snow leopard server then you create an install image using a copy of a snow leopard disk. You can fully customise the install image with all your 3rd party applications etc. Then you just netboot each mac and the installation is automated.
see Create a Leopard to Snow Leopard Upgrade NetInstall Image
You would setup the server first. then you would have to setup dns correctly, then your users and groups. your sharpoints. Then when you build your image you customise it to suit your new network settings.

  • Screen Sharing issues with ML and SL  with dual displays??

Don't know if this is a ML issue or was present in Lion (which I never upgraded to)
    Setup...
Old setup was 2010ish MBP and only 2006 iMac.  Both with SL 10.6.8 and both have two monitors...no issues.
Upgraded to ML on the MBP on release.  Realtively painless process.  I tried screen sharing today and I get odd responses with the MBP to the iMac.  Just so everyone knows, screen 1 is the main iMac screen and screen 2 is the additional monitor.  When showing both screens I could see all screen realestate.  However, when I changed to only display screen 1 I started having issues.  I couldn't get the entire screen to fit within the window nor scroll to show areas not displayed.  Sometimes switching between fit in window and no fit, I would get a blank screen.  Screen 2 only displayed and all is fine.  I noticed on screen 1 that there was a little black bar or open space on the bottom of the window that was exactly the same size that was missing from the top.  No ability to fit or scroll would allow the black space to move so that the menu bar on the top of the main monitor would display.
After doing a bit of searching with no luck and scratching my head, I took a look at the Arrangement screen in the display settings.  Wouldn't you know it that the main screen (having a smaller resolution than screen 2) was aligned so that the top of each display was even with each other leaving a small space on the bottom of screen 1 compared to screen 2.  When I moved screen 1 in the arrangement screen to a more drastic alignment to verify this was the problem...screen sharing crashed when going from both screens to only display screen 1.  Tried screen sharing again going from two displays to one, crashed again.
It appears there is some sort of bug or maybe ML and SL screen sharing doesn't like each other when the remote computer has two monitors.
Submitting bug report to Apple but was curious if anyone else has seen this or knows a work around.
    Mike

I have a similar configuration (Lion 2011 MBP and SL 2009 iMac w/ second display). After installing the recent Remote Desktop update things went awry when trying to share the iMac SL displays with the MPB Lion.
The displays on the iMac are the same resolution, however the second display physically sits a bit lower than the iMac display, so I had adjusted the arrangement to compensate the different heights. The second display is located physically to the left of the iMac display, but that shouldn't have any effect as far as I'm concerned. Screen sharing had worked in this config until the recent Remote Desktop update (on Lion).
I thought about what you mentioned about the display screen arrangement, so I decided to just test it for myself, arranging both displays side-by-side on the displays arrangement control panel. Surprisingly, it worked!
I do consider the Remote Desktop update to be the culprit and there must be some bug associated with that. I'm getting ready to submit a bug report, so hopefully we'll see a fix soon.

  • Screen Sharing issues MacBook Pro Retina

Loving my brand spanking new MacBook Pro Retina 15" running Mavericks. Display set to 1900x1200. The only thing it doesn't do, is play full screen YouTube video from my Mac Mini (2011), as soon as I put that in full screen mode on the Mini. Mouse and keyboard no longer respond, the only option is to wait untill it is finished or use the controls on the Mini. My screen sharing is set to all adaptive settings.
What I have done to do checks:
    remote control MacBook Pro Retina from Mini (same settings for screen sharing, resolution on Mini is 1080p) and play full screen HD YouTube video: no issues, scaling works flawlessly;
    check all network settings on both computer - no issues, both connecting full speed (400mpbs), wireless file exchange proves this;
    reinstalled Mavericks both on the macbook and Mini;
    removed all plists and preferences on both machines;
saved files to external HD, emptied harddrives, and clean installed Mavericks on both(!) computers
Installed all updates to december 12th 2013 (including the december screen sharing update).
All to no avail. So I figured to draw some new variables in the equasion and do some control testing.
I have done a test from an older MacBook Pro 17" (2010), display set to 1900x1200 as well. No problem at all controlling either computer. Scaling works flawlessly. Dito from an older iMac 21" running Mountain Lion. Like a charm, correctly scaling to meet the screen and network confitions.
So I figured shrinking the size of the application window on the MacBook to about 1/4 of the surface, and guess what: there she flies. Enlarging the application window on the MacBook Pro has a linear effect on the responsiveness of the screen sharing application, trying to view full screen video the Mini.
Verified this by controlling the older MacBook Pro 17" (1920x1200) from the MacBook Pro Retina 15". Confirmed that the above problems persist. Shrinking the screen again smoothens things out.
This quite definite to me, it is the screen sharing application that is not able to handle scaling on the hardware or interact with the software drivers of the Intel Iris Pro/NVidia GeForce GT750M combo. I hope this gets fixed soon!!

Setting Low Res on the apps didn't seem to help, however (as has been mentioned elsewhere) changing the display settings to non-HDPI does fix it, for GoToMeeting at least.  (Also it let's you appreciate how nice the retina display is, in case you've already gotten used to it!)
You need an app for that however.  SetResX from http://www.sendspace.com/file/mef6sk works well for me.  To return to nice Retina/HDPI mode you have to go back to Display Preferences (and the "Show in Menu Bar" option for Display Preferences is sadly AWOL in Retina/Lion so you have to navigate through System Preferences.)

  • Mixed PC/Mac environment with Mac 10.6 server sharing issue

In this mixed environment, I can't figure out how to get new documents created on the Macs (saved onto a shared folder on the server) to be set as read/write for the PC user. I'm not a Mac system admin, just to start with, but I do use Macs all the time and feel like I know what I'm doing. This is just escaping me.
So new documents and folders, when created by a Mac, are created with permissions that give user group "staff" and "everyone" read only access, and give the "nobody" account ready and write access. If I manually go in I can change it so that staff has read/write, and propagate that to contained items, and then everything is editable. But new documents in that folder (any everywhere) are still not. Can anyone help me figure out what setting must be changed so that new documents and folders created by Mac clients are created with staff having read/write permissions?
I'll be back at the client site tomorrow so I'm really hoping (and expectED) to have an answer by then.
    Thanks!

Basically you want to have your members (or groups) added to the ACL under the filesystem being exported over AFP / SMB.

  • Lync 2010 Screen sharing issues.

hi all i am working on resolving a long standing problem that i have inherited form the previous admin.
our Lync2010 infrastructure for the most part works great the only issue being when external users trying to do screen sharing and file transfers.
after doing some testing with sharing and file transfers with at different locations this is what i have found.
    Internal ---> Internal ---- Works
Internal ---> External ---- not work
    Internal ---> External(On VPN) ---- work
External ---> Internal ---- not work
External ---> External ---- not work
    i checked the infrastructure setup.
Public DNS A record AV.extdomain.com that points to an IP of our firewall
Firewall then NATS's the traffic on that IP to an IP allocated to the  NIC on the edge server in the DMZ over ports 443 / 3478 / 50000 - 59999
    AV.domain.com ---> xxx.xxx.183.117 ---> xxx.xxx.112.117 443/3478/50000-59900 (TCP + UDP)
oddly when monitoring this i cant see any traffic flowing on this rule (this could be the issue)
having reviewed some of my logs i found this entry with Snooper
ms-client-diagnostics: 23; reason="Call failed to establish due to a media connectivity failure when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote";CallerMediaDebug="application-sharing:ICEWarn=0x80020,LocalSite=10.26.160.198:4481,RemoteSite=192.168.254.147:1552,PortRange=1025:65000,LocalLocation=1,RemoteLocation=2,FederationType=0"
    Content-Length: 0
i also cant telnet onto the public IP of av.extdomain.com xxx.xxx.183.117 over 443 or 3478 or any of the others ports.
am i right in thinking that AV ip address should be accepting connections over those ports and as it is not that's my problem?
i may have answered it my self just wanted a 2nd opinion.
    Many thanks
    Gordon

Some quick thoughts: Make sure those ports are bi-directional, meaning you have access both out and back in.  Make sure the NAT for those IPs works in both directions, meaning that if you nat 183.117 incoming to 112.117, then 112.117 on the way back
out looks like 183.117.  Make sure that 3478 is UDP, not TCP.  Take those ports all the way up to 59,999.
All that said, you should be able to telnet to av.domain.com on 443 from the outside and get a connection.  You won't get a result from a web browser as this isn't https, but a telnet should at least connect.  You won't be able to telnet to 3478
because that's UDP, the other ports are dynamic so don't worry about them for now.
Check out James Cussen's tool here for port testing:

  • Screen Sharing issues

I've got VNC working fine for remote access. The problem is I've come across issues where I get disconnected, and the VNC server will never timeout the session. Since OSX seems to only allow 1 VNC connection to the computer, I'm unable to access it until I can get someone to disconnect the session or I have to remotely reboot the machine. I'm sure it's possible to set a timeout for the session, but I can't seem to find this anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

The Original Poster and I have chatted and now got Screen Sharing between us to work.
In his Linksys WRT54G we set it to Allow Anonymous Pings.
    It was already doing UPnP.
    No other changes were made.
He has a Buddy who it is not working with he still has to check.
This Buddy has a another computer (Sister's) that does work so the issue may be a Filter in the settings or the device at that end is doing Port Forwarding or DMZ to the sister's computer.

  • Screen sharing issue

    MacBook Pro 17" OSX10.7.3
All of a sudden I'm unable to connect via Screen Sharing from my MacBook Pro to my iMac via wifi network. It was working just a day ago. Don't know of anything I've done to disable it. I checked my iMac and in prefs have screen sharing enabled. I did a repair permissions and still no go.

The tech at Apple had me zap the p-ram...
    On which machine?

  • How do I come back to the Hierarchy List Display screen?

    Hi Gurus,
I have designed a report (Hierarchy Sequential List Display).
I would select a few records from the resulting report (by clicking on checkboxes that i've provided in the report) and perform an event which inturn executes BDC code.
After executing the event, I am displaying another screen where in I am displaying the result of BDC with Success/Error messages. Now in here when I press the back button it is taking me to the selection-screen.
How can I get back to the report screen after pressing the back button on the message screen.
    Solution would be rewarded.
    Thanking You,
    Kiran Kumar S

    Hi Anji,
I am not calling a screen exclusively for my BDC, so whatz happening is the new messages report is getting displayed on the same screen and I am losing the report screen. BDC is not written as a different program and hence I could not use SUBMIT.
The thing I am doing is SET PF-STATUS 'xxx'. I have defined a GUI for 'xxx'.
So this is setting GUI and then displaying the error/success messages report on the same screen.
    How do i handle this?
    Regards,
    Kiran

  • HDTV acting up with late '09 Mac Mini - display prefs at issue

I used my 46" Sharp Aquos successfully with my 2006 Mac Mini before I gave it to my brother last December and got a new Mac Mini. They were connected with an HDMI-DVI cable from one of the TV's HDMI ports via an HDMI-DVI cable to the mini-DVI port through the adapter.
Three times this morning within 20 minutes of turning on the TV the TV has turned itself off (the audible click that occurs when the TV is turned on or off and the two green lights go off). The TV turns itself off in a few seconds.
I contacted a Sharp Aquos person online who gave me a case # and told me to call Sharp on the phone so they could walk me through a factory reset.
When I got Sharp on the phone they asked me what preferences from the manual's chart I had chosen. I told them that it was my understanding that Macs do this automatically. I checked my display prefs and they're "1080p" (the manual's chart has only vertical and horizontal resolutions) and the profile is set to "SHARP HDMI". Are these prefs OK and thus the Mac Mini not at fault in all this?

Correction: I meant to write :The TV turns itself BACK ON in a few seconds
