Back to my Mac, NAT, CTU setup, Airport Utility

I've used Back to my Mac from home to access my iMac at the office in the past, but after the Yosemite update, I am not seeing "Shared" listed in the SideBar of Finder Windows anymore, and I also get the following warning in System Preferences > iCloud > Back to My Mac:
Set up router for better performance.
Clicking "Details" yields this message:
Back to My Mac may be slow because NAT Port Mapping (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is turned off on your router.
Let me explain my router setup
My iMac at home is connected to the internet via fiber optic line here in Japan.  The fiber cable comes from the wall to a white plastic NTT box that has 4 green LED lights, the only one of which that blinks is labeled UNI.  That box is the Bフレッツ ONU shown on this WIKI page:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%85%89%E5%9B%9E%E7%B7%9A%E7%B5%82%E7%AB%AF%E8%A3 %85%E7%BD%AE
The Fiber cable form the wall goes INTO that ONU, and then there's an Ethernet cable that goes OUT of it into the WAN port of another NTT box with a black front-face, Model 2004WS, which is called a "CTU" and which I assume is the actual "Router" in my setup.  I then have an ethernet cable going between the LAN1 port of that CTU and the WAN port on my Airport Extreme Base Station (the WAN port on my Airport Extreme has what looks to be a sun-shine icon).  Another Ethernet cable goes out of my CTU at the LAN4 port and leads into a dark blue VOIP Adapter box. And the LAN3 output of my CTU leads into an Ethernet Hub, from which I connect my iMac and SE/30 (yes, that vintage Mac can connect to the internet!).  (My iPad connects wirelessly.)
The 3 NTT boxes I just described are shown in this photo:
http://hoe.moe-nifty.com/hoe/images/HI350155.JPG
If I open Airport Utility 6.3.4, click the Airport Extreme icon, then click the Edit button, within the Network tab, I see the "Router Mode" is Off (Bridge Mode).
When I launch Network Utility and click Traceroute and type "icloud.com" and click the Trace button, Line 2 shows three asterisks " * * * ".  That seems to be saying that I DO NOT have a "Multiple NAT configuration," as per this:
http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1208
I can log into my CTU via Safari using the following URL:
https://ctu.fletsnet.com/CtuC231/init.do
At left there is a button named "詳細設定" which means "Advanced Settings."  Clicking that button shows me various settings, and I can see that this CTU is acting as the DHCP Router, and that UPnP is enabled.  There is no mention of "NAT" at all, so I assume that NAT is OFF on this CTU.
The following Apple Support article is suggesting that to resolve Back to My Mac issues, I would need to change the "Router Mode" from "Off / Bridged" to "DHCP and NAT":
AirPort Utility 6.x: Set NAT options for your base station or AirPort Time Capsule
But since my CTU is already acting as the DHCP server, wouldn't changing the Airport Extreme Router Mode from Off/Bridge to DHCP wreak havoc on my setup?
What should I do?
Thanks.
P.S.  I also have a Brother Laser printer MFC-7840W that connects wirelessly via the Airport Extreme, and in the Network tab of Airport Utility "Timed Access Control" is enabled and that printed (wireless client) is enabled.  It took me a heck of a long time to figure out how to get that printer to work wirelessly, so I don't want to mess it up and no longer be able to print if I switch from Off/Bridged to DHCP and NAT.

There are a number of reports of BTMM not working any longer with Yosemite. Apple's solution so called is hugely simplistic.. and it doesn't help for most people.
Since it worked before Yosemite and fails to work with Yosemite.. the issue is very clear.. Yosemite has the worst networking of any Apple OS release yet.
Your setup of the Airport is completely irrelevant.
And if the CTU is not working .. i think your best strategy is to go back to a working OS.. Apple have a lot more bug killing to do before Yosemite should see the light of day.
You can still connect manually.. if you have somebody in your office or it is accessible to you .. then you can open port 548 and directly link. BTMM is just an automated system.. a no hassles.. no fuss system.. which is great when it works but is otherwise completely useless when broken.
BTW does your iCloud access still work??

  • How to configure NAT in latest AirPort Utility?

Ok, where the heck did the NAT configuration section go in the latest AirPort Utility (I am running v6.1 under 10.7.4). It *used* to be under Network->NAT but it is now missing/hidden. Good times.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hey Bob Timmons,
I am running Mountain Lion (10.8.1) and airport utility 6.1. I am also trying to open up a port. I downloaded airport utility 5.6 like you mentioned but it won't let me install it because it says the discs are not compatible with that version. So I'm guessing 5.6 doesn't play nicely with Mountain Lion. Does that sound correct? Any help is appreciated.
Sorry about the link to the photo instead of attaching it directly. It wouldn't let me attach it.

  • Back to my mac NAT-PMP

What ports need to be enabled under NAT-PMP on a Westell (Netgear) 7550 router?  I know that BTMM works because I've used it in two different locations.  One in England and one in the USA.  Can connect to router and set NAT-PMP but for the life of me cannot find detailed info on what settings should be.

I've configured the router as per
"Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products"
with the only question being which Port Number should be used for the LAN Port for UDP ports 49152-65535?  Just picked a random port of 63333.
But still no joy on connecting.  Remote computer is in UK.  I'm trying to connect through AT&T in Florida.

  • Back to my mac : how to wake it ?

Hello, i ve got an imac and macbook, plus airport express. Back to my mac has been setup and it works just fine, however today i left imac on, then came the screensaver on... after a few minutes i went using my macbook and i tried to connect with my imac from the finder but i was unable to.
The password has been setup on both computers but i am unable to wake it up from the sleep mode.
How do i do that ? thx

When he computer is asleep, it's not running anything. All of the software (including the OS itself) is basically on hold waiting for an "event" in the form of a hardware "interrupt" triggering the resumption of the OS. This is a very fundamental part of how "sleep" mode works on computers and is the same regardless of the operating system (works the same for Windows or Linux, for example).
The key for you is to cause a piece of the hardware on your Mac to trigger the wake-up. The most obvious and natural event is to click the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, which triggers the USB or bluetooth receiver to issue a wake-up event. However, this isn't terribly useful if you aren't sitting next to your Mac.
What you want to do is to configure your network adapter to allow it to trigger a wake-up event. To do so, open the "Energy Saver" preference pane, click on the "Options" tab and make sure that "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access" is checked.
Once that's done, the Ethernet card will be able to wake up the computer. There's one small, issue, however, in that a computer that is asleep doesn't have an IP address (the network software that manages that is asleep, of course), so the ethernet adpater needs to receive a special "Wake-on-LAN" signal that contains the hardware MAC ("Media Access Control") address in it. You can Google for various Wake-on-LAN tools for the Mac, and even web-sites that will send computer Wake-on-LAN messages from the Internet. Use these tools to send the wake-up message to you computer (you can find the MAC address of your ethernet card by going to the Network preference pane and clicking on the "Ethernet" tab).
There's a wrinkle, of course. Wake-on-LAN works great on local networks, but to receive Wake-on-LAN from the Internet, you need to either have no router/firewall between you and the Internet, or you need to configure your router/firewall to forward Wake-on-LAN messages to a special (IP address on your local network (generally, the IP of your computer when it's awake, with the last of the 4 numbers replaced with 255). Not all routers do that (for example, Verizon FIOS' routers from Actiontec have a bug that prevents it).
There's one additional issue. There's no such thing as Wake-on-WIFI. Your computer needs to be connected via ethernet cable to be woken up by a network connection.
One thing you can do is setup your Mac not to sleep automatically, only to turn off the display. This is what I do as I have one of those buggy Verizon/ActionTec FIOS routers.

  • Mac no longer sees airport

On Monday I lost my internet connection.  I use an airport extreme (4gen) connected to DSL.  Connecting the DSL line directly into the iMac did not work either, then I called tech support and found out the local server for AT&T failed.   After AT&T got the server back up, I was able to use the wired connect to the DSL modem, but the airport would only give me a blinking yellow light.  Now the airport utility can't see the airport at all, so I can't check the settings.   I have restarted everything more times than I can count.  I restart in order - modem, airport - mac.  All software is up to date.   I didn't have any updates for the airport needed, so that didn't change.
What can be done if the airport utility can find the airport?  It's six inches away.

temporarily run an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports () of the extreme to your Mac. that should enable airport utility to see the deice.

  • BT Home Hub 3 + Back To My Mac / Port Forwarding

I've recently got BT Infinity and along with it a BT Home Hub 3 which doesn't seem to be playing nicely with Back to my Mac.
The setup on the Mac side of things is correct and I can see my remote computer but I just can't connect to them, or vice versa. The Back to My Mac preference is showing that the router needs configuring for better performance.
I've ensured UPnP is enabled and forwarded the following ports to the device:
    TCP 5354
    UDP 4500
    UDP 5353
    UDP 500
    UDP/TCP 4488
Which I found listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629
After doing some checks on these ports using http://canyouseeme.org it would seem that only one of these ports is open, and even then it's occassional.
BT seem to state on http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12529/~/why-do-i-get-an-error-message-when-using-appl... that 'Back to My Mac' isn't compatible and this is due to a compatibility issue on Apple's part. Frustratingly this article doesn't indicate a date when this was posted. Never the less, I would presume this could only be UPnP related — i.e. the necessary ports won't open automatically. I'm unsure of what other compatibility issues there would be. If the ports are open it should work fine.
I've read numerous threads in many forums about the BT Home Hub 3 port forwarding not working correctly, is this still true? If so, surely the device should be deemed faulty or a firmware update should have been put in place by now to resolve this. I can't seem to find any recent articles regarding this.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Mac Newbie  Please help: Airport Express conflict: cordless phone?

    Hello,
I apologize if there have been threads on this before, but I searched and searched to no avail. Here is my problem:
I recently purchased the new 15" MacBook Pro... LOVE IT! I also purchased an Airport Express for wireless. I have SBC Yahoo! DSL with a 2Wire modem w/built-in firewall. With Apple Care help, I have been able to connect just fine to the internet via the Airport Express. However, after my computer goes into sleep mode (overnight, for example)... when I "wake up" the computer and try to get onto the net or access my email, I cannot... usually there is a box that appears on my desktop that says someting along the lines of cannot find my connection.
As an aside, I have an old cordless 2.4 GHz phone in my apt. One Apple Care rep told me this was the problem and that I needed a 5.8 GHz phone. Another Apple Care rep told me that might help, but told me has used both 2.4 and 5.8 phones and fnids they can both have this problem so he wanted to try resetting the airport using the bridge feature hoping that would fix things. This solution failed.
I don't mind spending a few bucks on a new phone. I just want to have a reasonable expectation that this is indeed the problem. Any thoughts? Similar experiences? Also, if you have had and have solved this problem, is a 5.8 Ghz phone or the new DECT phones a better choice? I don't want to buy a phone that will work but impair my net speed. And finally, what are the chances that a microwave in an adjoining room or a neighbor’s phone could be causing this? I heard murmurings that Apple had fixed these problems with the newest Airport Express models.
    Thank you!!!

I did notice something that confused me; right after I clicked MANUAL SETUP in Airport Utility: a window that said something about ALLOW, DENY, ALWAYS ALLOW my personal information (or "confidential", I forget the exact wording and have not been able to replicate it)... after clicking DENY a few times and failing to get into MANUAL SETUP, I clicked ALWAYS ALLOW and everything seemed good to go. Any information you can give me on this, and what I did by allowing all?
This sounds like OS X's software firewall is doing its job. (ref: System Preferences > Security > Firewall). When you selected Manual Setup, this request had to go through the OS X firewall and it was asking you if this request was ok to do. When you first answered DENY, it prevented you from successfully administering the AirPort. The right response, in this case, is what you chose next and that's ALWAYS ALLOW.
Also in the manual setup/airport utility/wireless should my CHANNEL be set at AUTOMATIC?
Yes, in most cases this would be the best choice as it allows the AirPort to choose which radio channel to operate on that is clear of any other 5 GHz Wi-Fis in your area.
And should the little box that says ALLOW THIS NETWORK TO BE EXTENDED (located under the Network Name be clicked?
No. In this case, you are not extending the wireless range of your router with another AirPort base station, so leaving this unchecked would be appropriate.
Also, I let my computer go into sleep mode for a few hours while I had a dinner and a late nap and even used the new phone a few times. When it came out of sleep mode, my solid green light on the Airport Express was still there and while it took a second, I was still able to get email, connect to the net, etc.!
    That would be normal operation.

  • Airport Utility/Airport 6th Generation + Xbox One LIVE

Here I am going to show how to configure your Airport device in order to use you Xbox One and have the NAT open, so you can have the best connection to your peers and have the advantage over your opponents.
    1. Open the Airport Utility app, choose your airport device to be configured. Click on "edit".
    2. Now, on your Xbox One console, find out what is its IP address and MAC address (there are two MAC address listed in the configurations Wired and Wireless, make sure to use the one that describes the way you are connected to the router). To do so, on your Xbox One console go to settings, network, and advanced settings.
    3.  Now back to your Computer. On the Airport Utility app, go to the Network tab. Here you are going to create a DHCP reservation for your Xbox One. Click on the + sign under DHCP reservations, and add the information you acquired from your Xbox One console earlier and save.
    Example: (picture A).
    4. Now you are going to configure the port settings, which allow a much better connection to Xbox LIVE servers. Click on the + sign under Port settings and type as the picture below (picture B) will show and save. NOTE: Remember that the Private IP Address should be your Xbox One's IP address. NOTE: Xbox One requires UDP 500 and 4500 which you will need to input if and only if you have iCloud turned off, otherwise it will not allow you to input them.
    5. Click on "Network Options" and follow the picture (picture C) below and save.

  • Installer won't install updates (10.7.3 Combo/ AirPort Utility)

I was wondering why Software Update (or whatever it is called on the English GUI) didn't display the 10.7.3 or the Airport Utility updates yet on my iMac (27" mid2011 / OS 10.7.2).
So I tried to run Software Update manually. Software Update tells me that there is no new software available for my Mac.
Next I tried to download the Combo Update to 10.7.3, Airport Utility 5.6 and 6.0. Turns out that I can't install any of those updates manually either.
When I have to define the location to install the update all my hard disks have the warning sign attached and the following message is displayed:
Mac OS X Combined / Airport Utility /...  can't be installed on this disk. An error occured while evaluating JavaScript for the package.
Tried repairing permissions, rebooting, no sucess so far.
    Any help would be appriciated!

Oh god, just figured out what the problem was...
Booted up from the recovery partition and there it said "Can't install Lion on Server partition." I knew instantly what happened.
A few weeks ago I installed Snow Leopard as guest in Parallels via the ServerVersion.plist workaround. Forgot to delete the file I copied via Terminal... no wonder Softwareupdate couldn't install anything since it thought this was a Server. Thanks, your suggestion led to the resolution of this problem.

  • Double computer name on network and NAT issue with Back to My Mac

These are the problems I am having:
When my MacPro workstation (which on the network is named "The Beast") wakes from sleep - I get a message saying "there is already a computer on the network with the name "The Beast". Other computers on the network can now find you at "The Beast-2"" and it gives me a new name in the file sharing preferences - even though it is the only computer on the network with that name.
    Why is this happening???
The other problem is with BackTo My Mac - When I try to enable it - I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing" - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
Here is my network setup which consists of the Modem / Router from my ISP - an Airport Extreme Base Station and one Airport Express - which is connected to my MacPro via ethernet. The MacPro does not have an airport card installed and is running OSX 10.6.8 - all other computers / devices are running 10.7.x and iOS6).
VDSL Modem / Router (from Internet provider) with wireless turned off - (so it is not broadcasting a competing wireless signal) - connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
Here are all the settings on the AEBS and the Airport Express: - I am using Airport Utility 5.6.1 on my Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8 - so the setup prefs are different than the newer version of Airport Utility found on 10.7.x systems - but both work fine. Although I did notice that the option to allow ethernet clients to connect to the Airport Express does not exist (or I just didn't find it) in the newer version of Airport Utility.
Airport Extreme Base Station is set up as follows:
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network
    Wireless Settings:
Allow this network to be extended IS CHECKED
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (b and g compatible)
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Access Control:
MAC Address Access Control: Not Enabled
    Internet Settings:
    Internet Connection:
    Connect Using: Ethernet
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode).
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    Advanced Settings:
    Logging & Statistics:
Syslog Destination Address is blank (as in nothing appears in this field).
    Syslog Level: 5 - Notice
    Allow SNMP is CHECKED
    MobileMe:
Back to my Mac is turned off - but if I try to turn it on I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
    IPv6:
    IPv6 Mode: Link-local only
As stated - my MacPro with no wifi card -  is connected via ethernet to an Airport Express which connects wirelessly to the AEBS for network and internet access.
    Airport Express Settings:
    Airport Settings:
Wireless Mode: Join a Wireless Network
    Allow Ethernet Clients IS CHECKED
    Wireless Security WPA/WPA2 Personal
Internet Settings: Are grayed out (as in I can't change these settings - I assume because they are being controlled by the AEBS) and read as follows:
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode)
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: using DHCP
All other settings are identical to the AEBS.
All other WiFi devices in the house (MacBook Pro, iPhones, iPad's, iMac, Apple TV, Nintendo Wii etc…all are able to connect to the network and connect to the internet - no problem.
Thanks for any insights into what might be causing the double name on the network and why it is asking me to turn off NAT addressing - when both my Airport devices are in Bridge Mode?

I am also having this issue... any updates on this??

  • Solution to problems of "Double NAT" or until to Back to My Mac (BTMM)

    Folks,
Here is a couple of easy steps to try to resolve these problems, at least with Qwest ISP / using the ActionTec M1000 aDSL modems / routers.
I struggle for a while on this one and finally found the right information that made this easy.
    Typical MAC configuration:
aDSL connection to your home, via a current technology ActionTek M1000 Modem provided by the ISP in my case Qwest communications. You buy a nice Airport Extreme or Time Capsule and you don't understand why your System Preferences -> MobileMe -> Back to My Mac shows an AMBER indicator and states that you can't use this option due to network / ISP problems.
    So, here's a simple explaination:
By enabling BRIDGE-MODE on the AE (Airport Extreme) you have the ActionTec Modem being the DHCP server for your home network... That's good, if you hibit NAT on the aDSL modem... which isn't initially easy... but it actually is...
So, without drawning pictures: Your configuration should be as follows:
1 -(ActionTek M1000) aDSL modem connected to LINE connection to your household phone outlet
2 - Ethernet WAN connection to the WAN port of the AE
3 - Access the ActionTek Modem via your normal method... http://192.168.0.1
4 - Go to the Quick Setup on the web menus
5 - Make sure you have your aDSL username and password written down (very important)
6 - Goto to the ADVANCED tab on the modem web screen
7 - Scroll down to the button for RFC-1483
Word of caution here... First, anything you do can be undone by using the REST button on the back of the modem - so, don't worry....
Once you click on the RFC 1483 - go done and hit apply... The screen will freeze for a couple of seconds and then you get a THANK YOU page.
The modem will be going through a Power Cycle and watch the lights... You'll see the modem in a idle mode - NOT connecting - Again - don't worry you didn't break anything.
Now, go to your AirPort utility on your MAC that is either connected on the wireless or wired.
I did this entire procedure using wireless, but it's completely up to you.
The airport utility should still see your AE - of course you don't have Internet access right now.
In the Airport Utility - You need to select your AE or Time Capsule whatever you have as a router.
    Go to the MANUAL SETUP
    Goto Internet
Drop down the Connect Using (it should have been Ethernet, switch it to PPPoE
Enter your ISP information that was on the ActionTec Modem
Account Name: [email protected] (in my case)
Password: whatever you had - if you don't have it... You need to call the ISP and get it reset
Verify Password: Yep, type it again....
Sevice name: optional - I didn't provide any
The option below: Connection Sharing will be grayed out and you will see Share a public IP address
    CLICK on UPDATE...
Now.. your on your way.... Unless your prior configuration customized your DHCP setting.
If you get a warning that you have a DHCP error...
Go to the Menu bar - Base Station - Restart
Once the AE restarts.... Repeat the above steps to apply the PPPoE and account information
Once you've entered the information and successfully rebooted the AE... You'll see your aDSL modem
    connecting to the Internet...
    YOUR DONE!
Your AE is the only Router on your network and the ActioTec is only a Ethernet to aDSL converter.
Here is the Qwest document you can follow...
    http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems/m1000/modemDetailM1000advanced.html
Performance is exactly what is expected and all the MACs and iPhone in my home are happy...

No, not unless it is simply a network connection.
How is your IPTV being provided.. if it is using a separate vlan or separate vpi/vci in the adsl connection. Who is your ISP?
    Is the TP-Link ADSL?
Is the IPTV using a separate voice channel on adsl?
    Or a different vlan.
Sorry but it is something where a definite answer is not possible unless you provide all the details.
The setups are unique to each ISP around the world..
Here is one for our local ISP.
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/Setup.html
He has a section on getting this working with apple router over wireless.. look
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/IPTV_and_Wireless.html
Google around and see if other people have had success.. the whole setup is tricky.. and it is hard if nobody has used it who actually understands networking.

  • Back to My Mac - can't figure out NAT stuff

So I'm far from technical...I just can't figure out how to get Back To My Mac (BTMM) to work. I am setting this up from home now...
I have walked through the BTMM manual:
I start in AirPort Utility and select my Base Station.
To be able to see the "Internet" button at the top (and AirPort, Printers, Disks and Advanced), I need to first select "Manual Setup".
I click "Internet" as it says to do in the BTMM manual. Then there is only an "Internet Connection" tab. So to get DHCP and NAT to appear, I need to change the Connection Sharing drop-down from "Off (Bridge Mode)" to "Share a public IP address". Once I do that, the NAT tab appears.
So I click NAT and then make sure 'Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol' is checked (it is already).
Then I click the Update button in the lower right.
What I get then is a notice:
'Correct the 4 problems below before updating this base station.
    Problem:
    DHCP Beginning Address
    DHCP Ending Address
    Allow SNMP over WAN
Allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port'
Then when I select any of those 4 problems, different notices appear at the bottom. Thing is, I have no idea how to fix any of them, and the BTMM manual gives no clues how to fix this.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem. From as far as I can see, there isn't any reason to have the SNMP over WAN option checked. The DHCP beginning and ending addresses have something to do with how the airport assigns IP addresses to the computers on the network. I have a theory, but I need some backup. I think if I disable the DHCP on my modem and use the Airport as my DHCP server and enable NAT, it should work. Can anyone help out with this?!

  • Back to my mac over double NAT not working anymore

    Hi,
I have a double NAT router setup and before Yosemite upgrade (up to 10.9), it was working fine (I had to setup DMZ to the Airport router on the ISP router to make it work). But now it doesn't work anymore. The iCloud config is telling: "Back to my Mac isn't working properly because the DNS server address....".
But I am pretty sure it have nothing to do with the DNS. Because names resolves without problems. And I tried with other DNS (like the Google dans 8.8.8.8).
I also tried deleting the keys in the keychain like another post suggested, but the problem persist.
    Any clues?

Ok, just made it work on my setup.
Basically I went to the ISP router (the one that gets the public IP address from the ISP, and that then places my AirPortExtreme in its DMZ), and switched off completely its firewall (but kept the uPnP setting on, just in case).
I still get the warning message at the BackToMyMack settings pane, in OS X ("Setup Router for better performance" - in the details still refers to DNS setting problems, which I think is just misleading...), but apart from that, things seem to be working as expected (I can connect to my Macs from an outside network, and connect to my Airport Extreme using AirPort Utility, etc.).
    I hope this helps.

  • What is the best config permutation for iPv6 on my Airport for Back to my Mac?

    Hello,
I have an iMac (mid 2007), and an Air (October 2008) and am using the Airport Extreme 802.11n (gigabit ethernet).
I am stuck behing my apartment's apparently IPv6-less network (router is in bridge mote to avoid double-NAT) and am wondering:
What are the correct selections among those permutations in the IPv6 section of the settings to allow Back to My Mac to work best?
Ideally, I'd like to be able to let the iMac sleep ad wake with the Magic Packet over WAN, but have had mixed results.
If you can let me know what all those local-link etc settings mean for my setup, that would be great.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

If you need Windows as your main operating system you would be better off buying a Real Windows PC.
Running windows on a Mac is always a compromise. Whether in a Boot Camp partition or in a Virtual Machine.
In boot camp you can't easily Re-Partition and or Re-Size the drive it is installed on. You can't use both graphics cards as Apple has limited Windows to use the discrete graphics only, that is if your mac has 2 graphics cards (15" MBPs), which will shorten the battery run time in Windows.
The trackpad only has limited functions in Windows, less then is available on the Mac side and a real Windows PC.
