Back to my Mac sees other Mac, but can't connect

At my home I have Back To My Mac enabled, connected wirelessly to an Airport Extreme (g version) router. The Airport has NAT-PMP enabled. At work I am connected via Ethernet through a D-Link switch to an Airport Extreme (n version)
When I get to work, I can see the home Mac in the Shared list in the Finder sidebar, but when I try to connect, it times out with the error "Connection Failed". Any attempt to reconnect results in the same error.
Any ideas?

Still no luck here connecting TO the (wired Ethernet) iMac Core2Duo. It just hangs saying "Connecting".
On another thread, this long suggestion did not help either. *Involves syncing automatically to .Mac in .Mac pref pane, log out, back in, blah blah. No way. Let's hope 10.5.3 addresses the issue. here is a copy & paste of the "fix" that did not help:
1. Open NAT on the local router to WAN. No specific port needs to be configured. (my experience is only on Airport Extreme).
2. Set up the shared mac in the following sequence. The order does make a difference...
A. Set up sharing in System Pref to on for file sharing and/or screen sharing, but turn off remote management for now as it over-rides screen sharing. Set access to everyone to start just to keep the variables down. Make note of a valid use name and password for the shared machine.
B. Log in .Mac and set the sync to automatic and check at least one item for sync, then do a sync, log back out briefly then log back in. After logged in the second time, you will find the BtmM is turned off, turn it back on. You have now set the "shared" Mac to be registered to .Mac. The next setting to check is to make sure that in Energy Saver setting are set to NEVER let the COMPUTER sleep, but the display and disk can sleep. Also I set the wake option to wake for ethernet admin access - but I don't know if this is really relevant. After this is done, you are basically set to serve up the drives and screen, you need to turn your attention to the remote Mac.
C. Log in on your mobile Mac and make sure it has sync'ed with .Mac and then log off and open a finder window next to the .Mac preference window so you can see the left column. Before you log back to .Mac, you will note that shared category will either be missing or only show the local shared devices. Log into .Mac via System Pref and turn BtmM on and within a few seconds you should see the finder window showing up with your remote Mac names and when you select the device, you have the option to either share files or screen.

Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. I have just updated my Mac but can't connect iPhone and Ipad

Why cant I connect my iPhone and Ipad to my mac via bluetooth??

This worked for me:
1 Go to the finder menu bar at the top of the screen
2Click go
3 click applications
4 go down to iTunes and right click on Show Package Contents
5 open contents folder then go to mac os folder
6 open the terminal marked iTunes in that folder
This should force it to open and function enough, it will not allow importing of music from a desk top

I suspect the Seagate is not formatted to be used with the Mac. The correct format would be Mac OS Extended (Journaled), if you just bought the EHD then almost certainly it's formatted to be used with MS Windows machines. This is easy to fix, here are instructions on how to format it:

After formatting Time Machine http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 will launch and will begin backing up. The first backup will take some time however after the first backup it will go pretty quickly.
NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After formatting all data will be erased, so please if you have data on that move it to the internal HD first and then format. Then once you have backed up you will have a backup copy of the data. Also NEVER EVER use a backup disk to be used to store data. The reason being is if that drive crashes you have not only lost the data you have lost it's backup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for reply. I am not an expert on these sharing protocols but I think I have turned on SMB sharing but still wont connect. I tried adding netwrik drive by using cntrl K in finder and using smb\\network address but nothing. It is driving me mad!!

The cheapest Mac available new is a Mac Mini. It is no bigger than many an external hard drive. But the screen and keyboard and mouse must be purchased separately. They support USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice, and pretty much any DVI, HDMI, or displayport display. Although the iMac is certainly an attractive option if all you want to deal with is deciding on a printer. I still recommend getting an Apple USB keyboard for the occasional times you may need to troubleshoot startup issues. Normally not a problem, but as it gets older some issues can be fixed at startup or diagnosed at startup.

Using System Preferences > Network > AirPort Advanced again, you need to remove any listings of previous networks that used the same password as Molly. Click the name of the network and click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list of connections.
Also delete any other networks (except Molly at the top of the list) that might have used the same name...Molly in the past.
Delete any other networks that you no longer need so that your Mac will search for networks more quickly
Click OK, then click Apply
Open KeyChain Access and look for a listing of any old networks that you no longer need. Click to highlight the name of the network, then click the Delete Key on your computer.
Then look for any old networks that might have used the name Molly in the past and do the same for them.
Then look for any old networks that might have used the same password as the password for your "new" Molly network and delete them in the same way
Click the KeyChain Access menu just next to the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the computer screen
and then click KeyChain First Aid
Enter the main administrator password for the Mac you are using and highlight the Repair button. Then click Start. You will see a message that repairs have been completed
Quit Keychain Access
Power down the entire network...all devices...order is not important
Power up the modem first, then your main router, the other devices one at a time
Log on to Molly and see if the Mac remembers it after a few tries. If not, I'm afraid that you will need to change the name of the wireless network and password on your router due to corruption issues on the Mac. You have done everything possible without re-installing the complete operating system.
