Back to the N97 :)

I was given a N900.  I used it for a couple of months but I couldnt get on with it.
I have decided to put the N900 back in the draw and go back to the trusty N97.
Despite all the bad press I do think its a great phone.
The only disadvantage is the speed of the internet. Is there anything they can do to speed it up?  Is the N97 Mini faster? For me it would be a perfect phone if it was slightly quicker on the internet and if the screen was scratch resistant
Also when I log into hotmail and put remembe password it never does remember me and doesnt log me in automatically like I request it to. How do I get around this? Its just a pain typing out the full email address every time

When you say log in, are you using the email client or logging in on the web ? If you set up a mailbox on the phone it has to work (you use the email address and password to set it up. If you're using the web, check settings in the browser, or try Opera mini , which will remeber passwords like your computer does. As regards the mini it's speed is the same but it has more phone memory, not quite such hard work as the 'classic' .
Good Luck

  • Regarding the N97 phone back up

I honestly didn't want to start a new topic but I didn't know where to post this either..Bear with me here.
Ok so I have my back-up set to only "messages" and "contacts"..so does it back up the messages in the E: drive or does it only back up the phone memory which is the C: drive? cause I have all my messages saved in the E: drive.. and as for contacts I think that explains itself..I mean I'm sure it does a back-up on all the contacts..Am I right?
So, my main issue is which Messaging Drive is being backed up?
I have searched for a thread similar to mine..but with no avail..and if there is a thread that I could've possibly skipped, then I apologize.
     Thaer.

@ sillbit: In the last days often my n97 crashed and the only way to restart it was the hard reset. Only once I lose the message on e:, luckly I made the backup with pc suite the same day losing only 1-2 messages, but the other times I always found them on e:.
Interesting. But you do know that a hard reset don't affect E:? So if you have your messages there, a hard reset shouldn't touch them, so they should still be there anyway.
But I have tried several times, and the backup with OVI suite really don't seem to work. Could you check one thing? When you do a backup, make sure you check the box for backing up the messages. Then try a restore, and see what boxes you have to pick between when doing a restore. Messages aren't among them when I try.
It might also be a problem because I use Ovi Suite, which is what was delivered with my N97, so I don't use PC Suite.

  • My experience with the N97 - "my last Nokia"

    Hi everyone,
I know this is a user-to-user support forum but I believe a complaint to be some sort helps users to decide whether the N97 is for them or not. Before you read on, this post will contain comparisons to competitors, so if you hate apples, feel free to ignore me! (Also I don't think users should stop harassing Nokia for what they have done to us - the more complaints the better. Igoring customers is not a very good corporate strategy. Eventually it will take them down - people buy Nokia for quality, otherwise they could buy a rip-off from ebay).
Just skimming over the posts shows me that I am not alone. So let me share my experience with Nokia and the N97. I am too tired complaining about this phone, at least I think my experience has made sure that no-one of my friends and relatives is ever going to buy a Nokia again.
When I bought the phone for then 500 pounds at the Nokia flagship store in London it seemed nice enough. Good camera, decent keyboard and features competitors could only dream of. Unfortunately, that's paperwork. For a start, the much advertised facebook application was completely disfunctional and taking into account that Nokia clearly tried to compete with the iphone (my apologies again for mentioning a competitor) frankly a lame joke. I know a firmware update has somewhat relieved the situation now, but I will come to that later.
Okay, so I have disabled the facebook application. Not a drama, surely the rest will work okay. But then after a week some of the pictures I took with the built-in camera weren't accessible anymore (broken image displayed). Again, I have another camera and I was hoping for a firmware update so I ignored it. I had now started using the joikuspot app to browse the internet on my linux box. Very nice. I started using email a lot on my phone but again was disappointed. I have a £165 ipod touch here. Without kinetic scrolling and an extremely bad UI design, by which I mean the icons and menus (ignoring the graphics flaws all the time) it is no match for the ipod, so what i did was to use joiku spot with my ipod touch. Before that firmware update the N97s browser was also still buggy so I used joikuspot for that too. I was now down to using my £500 smartphone as a wireless modem. What a shame. But I was still hoping for some kind of magic update.
Then finally, I found out about the firmware update. I had to open my phone, check the serial and visit the Nokia website. Unfortunately, the Ovi software and drivers supplied with the phone did not recognize my N97 properly. Something which I think was fixed with the firmware update (anyone seeing a circular dependency here? ) Furthermore, the built-in firmware update over 3G seemed to be disabled. So I made the journey back to the flagship store in London, explaining the problem. I was greeted by an extremly rude employee. Well, I think that's not really his fault, I guess he was just sick of all the complaints. Anyways, I told him that the 3G update was not working and he started to be really patronizing telling me that I wouldn't listen to him (he said it was "working" but "disabled"). Maybe I should have told him that I am a software engineer and that in 99.9% of the cases in which we disable a feature, the reason is that it is "not working". Anyways, he kindly allowed me to use one of their machines to update the firmware "at my own risk", which worked. At no point I have received an apology for the fact that I have paid Nokia £500 to beta-test their products.
Now of course, the firmware update has succeeded, but is all fine? Far from it.... As many report on this forum the N97s battery meter is faulty. Countless times, my phone has just literally died overnight. It even forgets time and date! This is more than bad - every phone I have had so far complained about a draining battery well in advance. I had to dig out my old phone to serve as an alarm clock again - the fact that the alarm clock itself is unreliable is a alltogether different matter... One time the battery died during the day - after doing nothing for 4 hours in my sports bag (started with 1 bar down). When I had to make a call that day, for the first time in I don't know how many years I had to use a telephone box. Progress?!
The firmware update has also barely improved the email client - just a few ui glitches solved. However, the biggest issue at the moment seems to be the weird memory organization. When I buy a phone I don't want to deal with something like the c drive problem. Reinstalling applications on the 32gb partition helps somewhat but why didn't Nokia do that in the first place? Has this phone never been tested? The phone is still way too slow.
I can't comment on the iplayer app - says it needs wlan to work. But the youtube player has crashed every time i used it. And by crashing I mean it took down the whole phone with it. I admit that my ipod crashed a few times too - in just under a year (~3 times). But the reset was straightforward every time. With the N97, the only thing that seems to help is to take the battery out!
Before I forget, the N97 doesn't even work as a phone. In a 30 minute conversation, the call got dropped 4 times. I don't know whether it was because of a calibration issue with the proximity sensor or a more serious problem, all I know is that this is unacceptable!
I am sick of the phone and Nokia's service. The joikuspot app ran out and asks me to pay... I have paid £500 pounds for the bloody phone already. The adobe reader asks me to pay... (somehow it ran out without me even using it). Maybe you see why I am getting angry now - the only use case that actually put the N97 on top of my old phone was gone. What infuriated me even more, is that Nokia bundles this software with the phone. It cannot actually be deinstalled! It just sits there merrily and takes up my hard drive space.
Last but not least, I have written to Nokia already, but not received a response! This is a Nokia forum with Nokia employees following the posts. I would be very, very, very grateful if Nokia could give me a refund. However, with them not even acknowledging the various problems I somehow don't see that coming. I'll probably have to sell it with a massive loss on ebay.
    Cheers,
    Will
P.s.: I have all the same small issues as the other guys here - slider lock at the side not working etc. You are not alone... Has anyone complained about the music player? I have 16gb of music on the phone and scrolling is impossible! The Symbian OS is so obviously not built for a touch screen that it hurts. Of course they don't put much music on the phones in the Nokia store so people only find out when they get home...

    Solved!

hi ! the nokia n97 is a really an amazing device. It keeps up to the promise of live online 24 x 7. I discovered it and wanted to share. Still there are some unanswered questions and if any vetran could help would really appreciate.
i am an user from India. and have the n97 for about 3-4 weeks now. Practically I have been living online 24 x 7 as The list of unexpected issues that a nokia n97 offers seems unending, some of which i am narrating have made me scout on the web to try n search answers. Not that i will be able to action information you provide instantly. My new phone has gone for reparis(sic), so once its back can do that & will acknowledge your replies.
    My Quests:
    1. First things first! How to request for & get refunds for a Nokia Phone in India.
    2. Is there a touch querty as an input method? like windows mobile ? Request Know How. I now seem to agree to the feedback on one of the blogs.. that nokia designers feel that the average size of user hands would be that of big people & fingers like a japaneese teen. The physical keyboard does not seem to offer any additional functions other than text input !
    3. Predictive text where in the touch screen menu, the words dont get auto completed. This increases the number of taps/input strokes. Is the n97 intelligent & learn words from sms, contacts, emails. my blackberry does so. Request Know How & any options to edit custom dictionary. Auto Punctuation ? Am i expecting too much already ?
    4. Single hand use of phone impractical using touch pad t9. Entering alphanumerics on the physical querty is a nightmare... Request Know how on tips & tricks.
    5. Green tick yes or v button on top left of the text input screen. friendly again only for big handed people. Could this have been at bottom right. Is alternate screen for text input touch t9 available? Requested Know how.
    6. Unnecessary taps additional taps alomost in all menus...for eg.. sending a biz card from n97 requires 5 taps... in the other mobile phone systems it can be done in 3 taps. Requested Knowhow for shortcuts.
    7. Can In a nokia we get a view of the entire events as single thread.... No Provision for search display against keywords upon I can get call logs, messages - Here in Nokia, no search filters / advanced search and all searches results plotted to applications vs person/events. Requested Know How if it can be done like blackberry / windows mobile.
    8. Copy & Paste across applications. eg. Select text from web page copy n paste on message application.... possible on Nokia...? Requested Know How
    9. Call& Event Logs e.g Missed calls. If there are 5 missed calls the log will show the last called time only. In most other mobile systems Blackberry, windows each event is logged against a user. Requested know how on how this is handled in Nokia.
    10. Lag in picture display upon call. Number displays first and after few seconds lag the pic pops up. Is this normal & acceptable ? Other windows / rim devices show it instantly.
    11. When will Nokia enable usage of Native clients like google talk, yahoo like blackberry, iphone ? Any know how on possibility of release. Any equal alternatives suggested for n97. Tried Nimbuzz, Fring, Ebuddy. Miss the chat message notification icon on home screen, notification on the chat messaging icon, sound, breathing lights.
    12. Is there any planning for better email client? Likely Release dates?
    13. The Java App for GMAIL on blackberry shows an indicator on icon in addition to customised alert setting tone & breathing light for new messages. Retreiving Emails is consistent & auto on other devices. The Nokia Does not seem to auto refresh + No Notification. How is it handled on Nokia ?
    14. Can user friendliness be something where we can do actions with a contact or on contacts screen single view... e.g see contact on google map, Help on contacts screen/n97 help, lookup contact on server, filter by category. new address, new group, view, edit, delete, activity log (incl sms, mms, email, calls), call, sms, mms, email, send as attachment, send as im, add a custom ring tone, add picture, options - sort by, separators, sync settings, actions, switch
applications, exit. We have seen it on inexpensive phones. is it possible to be done on Nokia?
SOME OF MY STILL UNRESOLVED PROBLEMS Post upgrade to ver 12. Did you also face similar bugs/issues?
    15. Contacts inaccessible – “Memory Full Error”. No other applications were active at the time of the error. Just unable to reach any of my 3500 contacts through the contacts options & do anything.
    16. Pbk2 error upon selecting contacts in the messaging application.
    17. Audio Delay upon receiving a call. No Sound upon connection of incoming call. Especially if picked up too fast.
    18. Shows as searching for network constantly many times a day. We have 2 n97s & observed that both n97 almost have similar timing of network loss. Whereas, our other devices like blackberry do not show any weak signal signs.
    19. GPS Lock. Keeps searching for GPS locks constantly i.e Drops connection to GPS network frequently.
    20. Unpredictive battery talk time, standby & required Charge time.
    21. Voice inaudible at other end, when using loudspeaker & especially during calls from moving vehicle.
    22. Camera:
    a. Picture clarity issues. Secondary camera highly pixelated. Primary camera shows light flooding on pictures. Clarity Missing.
    b. Erroneous Time stamp on images.
c.Lens Cover Started to show minor scratch pressure.
    23. Ovi Suite recommends erroneous updates for E.g Maps 3
    24. Text Input touch t9 screen freezes / Hangs, especially when entering special characters like period(.), comma(,), exclamation (!) etc
    25. Selectively & at random contact Name not displayed on Caller ID (sometimes)
    26. Selectively Message & Message delivery display number, instead of stored contact names.
    27. Sync Issue, All contacts not synced always.
How to sync "categories" field as stored in outlook or how to map custom fields to Nokia.
    28. Format Mass Memory error, Unable to format. Unable to delete specific files.
    29. The auto lock... When attempted to unlock with querty out .. it still opens in portrait mode ?
    30. SMS Logs Not updated. e.g any sms sent before storing a contact.... after storing or adding
contact the number does not get automatically updated to the name. It reflects the number still in the logs.
    31. Picture caller... The face is half cut ..Looks weird on most images... as the number is not transparent. In landscape mode there is enough space on the screen to put up the answer or reject buttons and displaying the numbers.
    32. Browser will close on its own & return to menu or home screen.
thanks in advance for your time to stop & read. Pls do send any information that you think will be useful to me for making the n97 do some work.
    NEW additions:
    (tested on another n97)
    33. Predictive Text :
Usage for auto word completion only on physical keyboard, when the Dpad down key is used it throws up options but the way the scroll is designed you can see the full word and one makes mistakes.
    34. another strange behaviour is on the text input... this was on an email i was trying to reply. the stylus touch will paste the last keyed in word !! we wonder why.
    35. and while showing off the second n97 we have (again 3-4 weeks old) - we were asked how much did we pay for this second hand unit - 50% off .. apparently the comment as the surface has got scratched very badly.
i hope the info is good use to others who want to take the risk of buying this device

  • The N97, Ovi, and some of my hatred.

This is what's pi$$es me most off at the moment. There's more, but I can't be arsed to mentally whip myself by reminding myself about it. But this should cover my main points of bloodraging fury.
The camera. Why is the production N97 equipped with a camera that would embarrass a prototype?
It drowns the entire left side in led light when the so called flash is used?
While I'm at it, why is there not a proper flash? If Sony bloody Ericsson can do it, so can Nokia.
And then there's the protective cover that isn't protective, but is in fact the freaking opposite of protective.
Why does my lens have scratches because of the cover? And it isn't just me either.
Try googling "n97 scratched camera" and see what results you get.
There are someone in Nokia who should go back to working in a boot factory.
There were no touch pen in the box the N97 came with. Which is just as good, because there's no place in the phone to store it. I tried to use it with a pen from a Nokia 5800, and surprise, surprise, it was a huge improvement. So therefore it could not be a part of the N97 package. If it's any good, the N97 couldn't have it. Just like a better placement of the camera leds such as on the N97 mini, not for the big N97.
Ovi suite. The old PC Suite might've been old, but newer isn't always better. There's several things about Ovi suite I that makes me want go to Finland only to slap Nokia programmers across the face with rancid salmons.
For instance, why, oh fcuking why, is there no bleeding obvious way of moving movies from the N97 to my computer like there was on PC Suite. It had a film strip icon, hooray!  The Ovi suite only want to synchronize all the images I have in "My Pictures" folder, even AFTER I have selected a different folder to synch with?
I do abso-fcuking-lutely not want to have all the **bleep** from My Pictures on my mobile phone.
I have even MOOOOVED all the images from the old My Pictures, to a different folder just because Ovi didn't want tolet go of the idea of putting all my old My Pictures images on the N97. And yeeeeeeeezzz.... I have restarted Ovi, but no good.
Restarted my computer, yup, still NFG.
Another thing that makes me truly furious. Playing music on the piece of $hit that I was stupid enough to buy without testing first (because all the previous Nokias I had were excellent mobiles at the times they were new).
I were under the obviously wrong impression that all I have to do to put some music to my retarded mobile was to just adding it by using Ovi. Surely I could play whatever tune I wanted once they were on my mobil, just like on the N95?
Could I heck. The tunes are undoubtedly on the mobile, the Ovi on a different computer sees them on the mobile, but I cannot access them from the mobile. As far as the crabby user interface on the N97 is concerned, there's just the sound files I made with the mobile itself on on there. Nothing else at all in the Music app.
Ovi doesn't do ANYTHING better for me than the old PC Suite did. The things that are allegedly improved by jamming Ovi in my virtual throat are not something I want anyway. Ovi looks gayer though, presumably to suck up to the Apple-drones.
Who by the way got a real nice piece of hardware in the iPhone. Just a shame about having to deal with Satans iTunes by going that route.
On the positive note, Maps is the saving grace of Nokia for me. Otherwise I'd enjoy throwing the N97 at a brick wall, or jumping on it, and urinate all over the remains. I hate this mobile with a passion, so I might go back to the N95 until the next flagship Nokia. And if it isn't at least as good as the competitors, I've bought my last Nokia after many models of Nokias. The user interface isn't a reason to stay with Nokia anymore, so why bother?
    Solved!

The biggest n97 alternative IMO is the Samsung OmniaPRO B7610 It runs on WinMo, but I like WinMo, so....
Anyway, I understand your gripe. The n97 was a bad unit. However regarding the new Nokia that would make you smile, I am not sure if this would do the trick but later this year Symbian^2 and Maemo 6 will be released

  • Nokia presenets its new flagship phone the 'N97'

Quite shocking and surprising that none here has bothered to update others about nokia's new i-phone.... oh i mean i-phone competition........
    Drum Roll............
Ladies and Gents brace yourself as Nokia presents its new flagship phone the 'N97'
The N97 packs a 3.5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel (that's a 16:9 aspect ratio) resistive touchscreen display with tactile feedback and QWERTY keyboard into this sliding communicator with an "always open" window to favorite internet or social networking sites. Nokia calls it the "world's most advanced mobile computer." To back up the claim they've dropped in HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios, A-GPS, a 3.5-mm headjack, 32GB of onboard memory with microSD expansion (for up to 48GB total capacity), and a battery capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback or 4.5-hours video. 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass and "DVD quality" video capture at 30fps, too. The specs are certainly impressive, let's see if the S60 5th Edition OS can support it.

  • All you need to set up BBC iplayer on the N97.

    Hi Folks
I have finally solved the issue of setting you the BBC iplayer so it asks you how you would like to connect when you run the application rather then it always by default connecting to the service provider in my case (orange).
Step 1 - download the newest software update for the N97 you will need
software version V 20.0.019 software version date is 13-10-09.
Step 2 - download the latest BBC iplayer version this should be version 2.5.0(141).
Step 3 - from the phone go to menu then go to web once opened go to options then settings
once in settings go to general and set access point to ask when needed.
Step 4 - from menu go to Videos & TV go to option in Video and TV then settings and set network connection to ask when needed if its not already set to this.
Step 5 - from menu go to settings then connectivity then destinations then internet and set your required WIFI connection to priority 1.
Step 6 - from menu go to applications then open realplayer then settings then go to streaming settings then network and the access point in use should display your required WIFI connection e.g. mine shows my home network talktalk. If your required network is not displayed then open the access point in use and select the required WIFI connection.
Step 7 - turn your phone off and take out the battery for 2mins then turn your phone back on.
Step 8 - when the phone turns on and the phone displays select connection you should see internet underneath it should be displayed your WIFI connection. Do not select anything. Instead go to options then go to select access point and choose your service provider e.g. orange Internet.
Step 8 - once your phone is set-up and all widgets are set all you have to do to use BBC iplayer is go to options on the home screen select content to offline mode then content to online mode then open the BBC iplayer. The phone will then ask for a connection select your wifi connection and your away.
i hope the above steps help you and work as they worked for me just remember after you do
the 8 steps above you only need to repeat step 8 everytime you wish to use BBC iplayer.

    I'm with 2bad.
I didn't need to do any of that for it to work perfectly!

  • Finished with the lemon called the N97, what other...

I was absolutely disgusted with the N97.  It was full of bugs, could never receive a signal even within 0.5 km of a mast.
iplayer and Facebook constantly had errors and failed to load, the whole experience with the N97 was enough to force me back to baked bean cans and a piece of string.
I have sat back, mulled it over and allowed myself a few weeks to calm down and rationalise the situation, but my feelings have not changed.  Why did Nokia release a phone with so many issues, Vodafone have been taking these phones back and cancelling contracts at an alarming rate.
I have had several Nokias in the past along with Sony E's.  So I don't want to tar the whole Nokia range due to a duff Lemon called the N97.
What other options do I have to get a decent smartphone without going to the iPhone ?

I upgraded to V11 but returned the phone a few weeks ago. I was told no firmware upgrade was going to sort out the reception issue and I'm fed up being a consumer tester for unfinished products and paying at the same time.
Imagine buying a new car and finding the brakes dont work, only to be told an upgrade will sort it out.
I want to get back onto o2, I found Vodafone was a very poor service when you had issues. In all the years I was with o2 they were nothing but excellent.
I need one that comes with the contract if possible, so that would rule out buying a vanilla model from nokia.
I might go back to the brick I had in the mid 90's, al least it went ring ring and you could speak to someone on it

  • How to get money back for Nokia n97?

     Hi Guys!
I gave up with Nokia N97!!! I have a lot of problems with it. All of them are known. While this 2,5 months of using the device I was so **bleep** off and felt very uncomfortable while using it! Is that what we paid $700 for?? To see how good it is in the official video commercial and how damn SLOW, buggy and how bad the hardware is? I waited for software update and was hoping to see nice and fast device, oh! and working GPS! Instead - it's still the same "smart" which is most worse on nokia market. That's enough!
So now I have this question: How to get money back for Nokia n97 after 2,5 months of usage? or maybe exchange to n900? I will call to customer care center soon but maybe  someone of you have done this already and you can give some tips?
     Thank You!
     Cheers
     Hi guys!

put it up for sale, you have used it for over 30 days nokia will not give you a refund. sell it and buy yourself another device in this case. im giving mine away to a friend. he likes the n97 so its a win win

  • Hard reseted the N97 mini NOW WHAT????

I got the white screen and blue Nokia label on my recently bought N97 mini.  The advice was to hard reset it.  O.K I did it now it randomly works.
    My questions:
Is this a hardware issue?  If not how can it be solved?
The phone came with various applications from factory, now how can I restore them, not the ones I installed but the ones the phone had before the hard resetS.   where are they?

Most should be available at Ovi Store or elsewhere on the web, things like games and video samples you may not be able to get back. I would suggest you install any apps you can on E not C.Also before setting everything up I would update/re-install the latest software with Nokia Software Updater.
As for 'randomly working' what do you mean ? And how did you reset the phone ?
Whenever I reset my phone (which, unfortunately is quite often with the N97) I first back up my contacts, calendar and notes, NOTHING ELSE, backing up settings etc can result in re-installing a 'problem'. I then dial *#7370# followed by 12345. After the phone re-boots I set up the phone settings, motion sensors, auto lock, message storage point (E not C) ringtones etc. Then I re-install my contacts and calendar, and then any applications or themes I want (everything possible on E) and the phone will be like 'new'

  • Help solve these issues with the n97

    Owner of a black N97. Software ver.: V.11.0.021(.238.01) - 19.06.2009
    Type: RM-505
    The issues I have.
    1. The alarm clock sometimes goes off 3-4-5 min, later than it was set. Ex. set alarm for 8am, and it goes off at 8:04, 8:05.
    2. Contacts. Prev. I had the E50. I have all my contacts now in the N97's mem, so no numbers/contacts are on the sim card. The problem. I have a contact that has multiple phone numbers. When I get a call from the person neither the name or the picture assigned to her will show up, just the number. **bleep**? 600 euro phone
    3. I left the phone to charge at night. I wake up in the morning it shows 2 bars. I restart the phone it shows fully charged (7 bars).
    4. Laggy orientation issues, sometimes the phone can't make up it's mind in what mode it should be.
    5. Sometimes the keyguard switch doesn't do it's job, have to slide it 2-3 times. For example, you have the screen locked. You slide the camera's protective cover. You use the keyguard switch.... once, nothing happens. You have to slide it again (2-3) times so it finally unlocks the screen/keys.
    6. Once I turned on the cam, video mode, lights on (used the phone's leds as a ligh in the night, walked for about 10 min. like this and the next thing I know when I want to turn it off.... the phone doesn't respond, freezed up, had to turn off, and when I did I had the nokia logo and an ugly red line across the screen, turned it back on, worked again....
Sorry if I ask/talk about things that have been discussed/solved before.
Hope to get feedback from someone on the issues I have especially for the contacts issue and if maybe somebody could tell me what dimentions does the caller id image should be so that I have no issues with it?
    Thanks in advance.
(PS: Despite the issues I ran into even after I updated from v.10 to v.11 I like the phone and I really hope that newer software updates will solve the issues we have. BTW I advise you all not to use themes. Altho I am a big customization fanatic myself, my old E50 teached me a lesson. If it's not nokias shipped with the device theme, it's gonna cause you problems. No more will I install and use custom themes. It just makes your phone crash and do very very weird things. (and the themes I used were from babinokia not just some hillbilly site). One of my big dissapointments with the E50 was that I could not change / set a custom image as fullscreen wallpaper. It only showed a cropped version of the image on the middle of the screen. In order to change the wallpaper u had to find a theme.)

Upgrade to V12? Might help on some issues.
As for the contacts problem, I can report that it works fine for me, and I have several numbers on most of my contacts.
This problem is usually because the same number exists on more than one contact. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to actually search for which contacts might have a number, so the only sugegstion I can offer is that you search through every entry in your phone book, and see if you can't find the same number on more than one contact.
Don't forget to also check the entries on the SIM card, especially if you have set th phone to use both phone and SIM.

  • Is there something wrong with the N97's GPS receiv...

Okay, i have 3 Nokia phones and a Samsung, with integrated GPS,
    N97, E7, Lumia 925, and Galaxy note 4.
The N97 was not being used at all, it was simply lying in a drawer. Thought I'd charge up the N97, and use it as a GPS device, saving battery on the other devices.
But for some reason, the N97 takes forever to get a GPS fix.
I keep all the four devices side by side,
Within about 2 minutes, the Lumia and the Note 4 get a fix and show my exact position on the map.
Within about 3 to 4 minutes, the E7 gets a fix.
But the N97 just sits there, searhching for satellites. It gets a fix after about 10 minutes, but then again, the moment i take it to the car and start driving, it loses the fix and starts searching for satellites again. This doesn't happen with my other devices.
Is the N97 GPS weak by design? Or has my device gone bad as I haven't used it for so long?
Is there something I can do to make it better?
    Thanks.

If I stop data connection on the Lumia 925 for a month, will it start taking 20 minutes to get a GPS fix?
This is called Time to First Fix …
If you do not use GPS for several weeks, and you do not allow Internet in that time, the GPS receiver has to download the almanch again. In newer phones, Nokia fixed this issue by enhancing the GPS receiver software a lot – it downloads even when the screen is dimmed and uses WLAN as support – consequently it won’t take 20 minutes with a Nokia Lumia. Anyway, back to your Nokia N97: If you manage to download the almanch and use the Nokia N97 at least on a weekly basis for navigation, you get instant GPS fix, even without a SIM.
To download the almanch, I did:
    Nokia N97 » Menu » Settings » Phone » Display » Light sensor » set to minimum
not to burn-out the display edges
    Nokia N97 » Menu » Maps » Options » Tools » Settings » Navigation » Backlight » Always on
    return to the map
do not open any menu – that would restarts the almanch download on a Nokia N97
do not put Nokia Maps to the background – that would restart the … you got it
put the phone to a location with open sky (in all directions)
    wait at least 25 minutes.
Then, the alamanch should be downloaded two times. Now, the time to first fix should be within less than a minute even if you have one of those Nokia N97 with broken GPS hardware. By the way, you could go for a pay-as-you-go SIM (Prepaid). The alamanch download is much less than one megabyte (MB) and should not be that expensive. I really recommend A-GPS with a Nokia N97, especially if you do not use GPS every week and/or you start your jouneys at locations where the Nokia N97 did not finish its last navigation. I used it without a SIM for several years. However, compared to A-GPS and/or modern phones, it was …

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I "upgraded" to FF4, now it doesnt work properly, wont open pages, will open blank tabs when i click on a link, tried to go back to the older one but that doesnt work now either, have tested it with Safari and it opens everything fine. Any ideas?

After upgrading to firefox 4 im now having a lot of problems using the browser.
if i try an open a link in a new tab it will just open up a blank tab, if i click on links or even type in the google search bar at the top it doesnt do anything, it just says "done" and the circle thing stops as if im on the page already, have tested it with Safari doing the same things and Safari works fine. I'd swap but all my bookmarks and passwords are in Firefox so id rather stay with that.
I tried going back to the older version of firefox (3.5 or something) but seems the bugs are here to stay now.......so.......any ideas? because its really annoying, shouldn't have "upgraded".
Is there a new patch coming out anytime soon or should i start getting used to Safari?
    Thanks for your help.

I would copy over the entire thing if you have room.  With iTunes 10.4 though, you can download any previous iTunes purchases you have made in the past with your current iTunes account.  While in iTunes, look at the left hand side of your screen and select "Purchases" and look at the bottom right corner of the screen and select "Download Previous Purchases".  If you have an iPhone, iPod and/or iPad...you can do the same thing from each device.  Nice new feature...just remember that those ripped CDs need a back-up!!!  Enjoy...

  • They changed the way we see our appointments. That's awful! Is there a way to chnage back to the "old" way when you could see all your appointments at a glance????

Maybe I'm fool, but how I get the "day view"? I have three options on the top line, an icon that seems a computer (a square and two lines), a magnifying glass to search a especific item and a "plus" to add appointments. The "day view" isn't any more there - that's the point!!! Using the first icon a get the full month-that uses 2/3 of the screen- and two lines of appointments...To see the rest I have to slide up and down the two lines taking care to not touch the month...
