Back to Tiger (yes I know, another post on the topic)

I know there are lots of posts on the topic of reverting back to Tiger but I've got a quick one; can I reinstall Tiger from the boot up disc that came with my Mac originally?
CS3 really doesn't like Leopard even with Adobes' patch. It crashes, has system errors and corrupted files are doing my nut!

For me it's been just the opposite, some annoying, but very minor, problems with CS3 cleared up when I installed Leopard. Under Leopard this has been my most trouble free Adobe experience ever and I go back to Illustrator 88 (Photoshop didn't exist back then). And I've done every update with no problem.
My guess, without having more info, is that you don't have enough free disk space and you are using your main hard drive as the scratch disk. You should have 10-20% free disk space for Leopard to run correctly and you should have a drive dedicated as a scratch disk. Do not do a partition on you hard drive, a scratch disk on the same disk offers no benefit, add a firewire or USB2 drive with about 30 GB for the scratch disk. If it's big enough you can use most of the disk for Time Machine, or a clone if that's how you are doing it, and just have a small percentage as the scratch.
This is most important for Photoshop, but Illustrator uses a scratch disk too. Since adding a firewire 30 GB dedicated scratch disk all Adobe apps, and even the whole system, are much more stable.

  • Another post regarding the latest iTunes problems - with a twist!

    Hi,
    I have a 3G iPod and iTunes7. I previously synched my iPod via a PC (shudder) and when I got my macBook this week decided to use that instead.
    So, I copied my music across and upgraded iTunes to 7.0.1 little knowing the problems surrounding this release.
    Obviously since then I've had the regular problems such as the mac not seeing the iPod at all, freezing during sync process etc etc etc.
    So, having looked at the plethora of advice on here I erased the iPod, restored it, uninstalled and re-installed 7.0.1 and hey presto it started to sync....
    However, it only did a few tracks then froze again. I then decided to get rid of 7.0.1 and go back to 6.5. I followed the instructions of a user heree and deleted the receipts and iTunes library file etc and tried again.
    After having to restore the iPod once more I synced. Things seemed fine, my tunes were flying on and all was well in the world, until I got to track 3068 of 5122. At this point it froze again and I had to pull the iPod off its dock and reset!
    Now, I could understand this happening on 7.0.1 but why on 6.5?
    If anyone could give me any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Chris

    Sorry Chris, but can you elaborate on your process?
    re 1. How? By doing a search for 'itunes'?
    re 2. How did you erase the ipod? with disk utility?
    re 3. My 3G ipod is not recognized via firewire (only usb). So restoring is impossible, as it needs be connected with firewire to do so. solution?
    thanks for your help
    Also, just FYI for others - following the instructions from another posting, I had erased my ipod with disk utility, started in windows via bootcamp, and restored. but now my ipod is windows formatted. and still doesn't work in osx with firewire...

  • Driver issues *yes i know, another noob with diver problems*

    So im not a total noob, I know my way around things. I have a centro that I cannot get synced. I have installed latest ver of hotsync and I am runnin XP pro (32 bit). When I hit the hotsync button it pops up multiple times asking me for the driver which seems to be non-existant for some reason. I dont know where my original disc is and I would love to get the cable working. As it stands now I can do pretty much everything though my SD card. it behaves the same as it does on my vista ultimate 64 bit install but I know that wont work with it. I do have ubuntu 64 bit installed on my desktop and ubuntu worked seamlessly with the software built in.
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

    I would try a complete uninstall and then reinstall with the following procedure:
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
    For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

    I really can't find/ figure out where the discs that people recomended- please help.

    If it came with Lion or later pre-installed, then re-download it from your App Store purchases. If your computer came with Snow Leopard or earlier then it is on one of the original discs that came with the computer. If you don't have them you can purchase replacements from Apple:

  • How to Uninstall Leopard Upgrade and go back to Tiger

    I would like to go back to Tiger and was wondering how to uninstall the Leopard upgrade without having to do a full reformat. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

    First, welcome to the Apple boards.
    Backup what you have because it probably contains things from the original update you want to keep - network settings, passwords, etc. A bootable clone is your best bet - and test it out.
    Then you need to format your HD (full, not quick) with the Leopard DVD and then reboot with the Tiger CD and install it. I am not sure how much you can migrate "downwards" from the Leopard backup, but some things will probably come along OK. Not sure about mail since it was converted by Leopard - will it unconvert? Don't know.
    I have read of some who tried to simply install Tiger over Leopard but the results were less than great. You can try it once you have that clone backup, because you won't be losing anything.
    I would suggest unplugging the clone during the erase and install process until you get to the migration point.

    I have a brand new Leopard based MacBook Pro that I need to revert to its previous cat form of Tiger. Would you mind walking me through it? I have Tiger disks that came with another MacBook Pro so those should have all of the machine specific items I will need. As I understand this, I start the computer from the included Leopard disk and do a full format. (I noticed that there is a new partition style named GUID Partition, is this Leopard only?) Next, I load in my Tiger disks and install from those? I do not need to do any system backups as I have no information on this computer as of yet. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Brian

  • P6 R8 : Another Brick  In The Wall

    Hi all,
    I would hear from other people here what is their opinion about the Roadmap of P6.
    I see that P6 R8 is moving forward to become another brick in the wall of the Fusion Middleware 11g. The substantial removal of offline client will prevent the use off site.
    In the EPPM virtual summit there are some use cases, one about Bell. Apart of the emphasis, they talk referring to Primavera 5, just about a not now existing product.
    Have some think about this?
    Thanks
    Fabio D'Alfonso
    http://www.fabiodalfonso.com

    With all due respects, I am struggling to see how such a statement can be made.
    R8 still has the desktop client for the diehard scheduling fans. It now includes some great analytical tools free. Where Oracle has done a significant amount of development is to upgrade the web interface to the point that fewer users need the desktop client.
    I would go so far as to say the most desktop client users could update to R8 and be unable to tell the difference. For the larger enterprises, the backend tools with R8 are a significant improvement.
    Right or wrong, Oracle Primavera are doing this because their customers (particularly their big customers who pay big bucks), want this technology. From my perspective, it makes perfect sense. The next “big thing” is Enterprise Portfolio Project Management (EPPM). (Yes, I know it has been the next big thing for a number of years now.) Medium and Large enterprises are desperately trying to integrate their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) stacks into the concept of “managing by projects”. Hence, all of the development to integrate Primavera into the Oracle Red Stack.
    Note the tug of war between SAP and Oracle over Primavera. If SAP had won, Primavera R8 would look remarkable like it does now. (Or, perhaps not, Oracle has really thrown lots of development dollars at Primavera. Way more than I expect SAP would have.)
    From the medium and large enterprise perspective, if Oracle does a convincing, full integration between Peoplesoft and Primavera, it will be a blow for SAP.

  • Iphone, area code, moving to another area code ( lol @ topic title)

    I'm really close to getting an iphone 3gs, but I just have some last questions before I go ahead with the purchase. Bare with me if I don't know what I am trying to ask because I'm confuse myself, so pardon my nubness **** I don't even know how to make the topic title for this topic lol.
    I currently live in a city in California who's name will be kept anonymous. I don't know if I plan on staying here for another year. I've been planning on moving to another area in California, either the bay area or maybe southern california or perhaps New York next year, who knows. I have a cellphone number but its under my parents' family plan, so I'm not really paying for anything. I'm thinking of getting an iphone and get a new cell phone number as well to go with it.
    My question is basically regarding the cellphone number. My friend said not to get the iphone because if I do move to lets say to those said places above, my area code for the cellphone will be different and if people call me, I will get charged and they will get charged long distance or what not. That's what my friend said. Does that make sense? Can somebody please clarify/explain to me what happens if I move to another city with a different area code and whatnot? What kind of charges I will incur as a result.

    You can always change you cell phone number.
    If you move to another place you can change you phone number or not, your choice.
    I have never been charged for changing a phone number.

  • Messages posted to JMS Topic from OSB disappear even when not subscribed

    Hi,
    We are using an OSB service to publish xml messages to a weblogic JMS Topic. Message is persistent. There are no consumers for the Topic. There is no expiration limit set.
    We are able to see the message from OSB reach the Topic. It stays in the Topic for a few seconds and then disappears.
    The State of the message shows up as "send transaction" on the Topic in the weblogic console. And it shows up as Message Pending instead of Message Current.
    Is there a way to ensure that the message stays in the Topic till it is consumed by a subscriber?
    Thanks,
    Senthil

    Hi Senthil,
    The topic persists messages only for subscribers, if there is no subscribers, then it is not necessary to persist the message.
    This is the same case for you as well, as there are no subscribers the message gets deleted.
    So first you need to have atleast one subscriber first (A dummy proxy that is reading from the topic) and then post to the topic (through your OSB service or hermes jms tool, etc .. ) . Then if you try to go and check the topic you will be able to see the message.
    Hope this information helps.
    Thanks,

    Save the videos to your computer. There must be some way to do it. Read the documentation that came with the app or go to the app online support. Perhaps it uses iOS file Sharing.
    If it is this app, it states in the description that you can transfer the videos to your computer via USB or WiFi.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tube-downloader-pro-free-video/id586168976?mt=
    I have have an app called Wireless Transfer App. It allows me to send photos and videos to and from the iPad and computer over WiFi.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wireless-transfer-app-share/id543119010?mt=8
    If that is not the app that I reference above, post back with the exact full name of the app.

    Select your user account on the left in the Sidebar. It has a small house icon.

    I just lost some photos stored on my iphone by saying "yes" to restoring my phone to the latest back up (this is a new phone having had the previous phone stolen).  I (stupidly) didn't realise this would delete photos I had taken since the last back up. Does anyone know if I can recover these photos?

    Unfortunately, if these photos had not been transferred off the phone in some way, before restoring from the previous backup, they are now gone.
    Did you have iCloud's Photostream feature setup? If so, they may have been uploaded to that.

    Forget everything I wrote about bluetooth device interference having anything to do with this issue. I was obviously headed down a rabbit trail with this suggestion.
    What I've since determined (that is working for me) is to focus in on the small round bumpers on the backside of the trackpad. I suspect that over time these probably loosen and become more sensitive or even stuck. This might explain the auto-selecting in the erratic behavior of the trackpad.
    As a workaround, I used a felt cloth (folded several times) to elevate the backside of the trackpad so that the bumpers no longer touch my desk. This takes a loose or stuck bumper switch out of the picture. Then I enabled the trackpad features for "Tap to click" and "Secondary click," which are located at:  System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click.
    Only if you have serious computer repair skills would I advise attempting to adjust the sensitivy of the bumper switch: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Magic+Trackpad+Click+Feature/6171/1
    As for myself, I'll be purchasing a new trackpad tomorrow morning. I love this device, but it seems that once the bumpers begin to wear out, they do so quite abruptly, and your best course is to get a replacement before pulling out any hair you still have left.
    Again, my apologies about the mis-cue on the bluetooth issue. Good luck!

  • How hard would it be to go back to Tiger?

    I just can't live with Leopard anymore. Since I installed it, I have daily and repeated crashes of Safari, random things like Calculator don't work, and now, my battery will not charge, essentially turning my laptop into a desktop. I had none of these issues before I upgraded. The battery one seems to be a result of 10.5.1. (Yes, I have checked the adapter. My adapter will charge the SO's identical, but non-Leopard PowerBook, but his will not charge mine) I'm just tired of the frustration. I've been a Mac fangirl for 16 years, but this is enough to make me want to leave.
    So, I'm thinking about trying to go back to Tiger. Has anyone done this? Was it successful in making your Mac useful again for something other than being a doorstop? How big a pain in the rear was it? I'm kind of afraid to see what new features 10.5.2 will unleash on my poor PB.
    Thanks!

    Well, you can try starting another discussion with one or more of your specific problems with Leopard and see if someone can help you with them.
    Apple recommends doing an erase and install for downgrading to a previous version of OS X. In your case, you'll have to use a Tiger install disk to do an erase and install. Note: This will erase everything from your drive. You'll have to backup any important data first.
