Back up a dvd image made with 1.5 to as data to dvd-r disc .....

i ran out of space and i started backing upo my images into dvd media as data.
i noticed that my image on the hd was usually about 4.0 to 4.5gb , when burned into the dvd media the image size would only show about 400mb.
that was weird to me.
so in my first need to make a copy od image i trasfered the image back to hd and the used encore to burn the image back.
the dvd seems the ok even the size of data shows aver 4gb again but only the first chapter plays, is like some corruption has happened.
any body has a fix for this ?
i try copying the video is folder to hd i get errors
try to do a dvd shrink error can not read the disc.
help.
p. s. is the dvd image only suppose to work is is storage in the hd only ?
the user manual does not specify any of this.......

Reduced DVD image size with HD to SD footage in Encore

Using CS5, when I encode an SD sequence from Premiere to Encore, all works well. When I downconvert an HD project through AME it looks fine and shows full screen in Encore, but when I burn a DVD and play it, I get a reduced size image in the center of the screen.
I'm shooting 1080 24p with a Panasonic HPX170 camcorder. I create Microsoft AVI files using On Location.

When I render files and build a project with Encore, the timeline and menu image appears full screen in the Encore monitor.
When I burn the project to DVD, it displays properly in letterbox on a standard def tv.
But, when I play the DVD on an HDTV, I get a great looking picture in proper aspect ratio, but it displays at about 3/4 size in the center of the screen with black surrounding it. I can change the display setting on the HDTV to 'Zoom" and fill the screen with the picture without distortion.
I have the same issue creating footage at 1080i 60 fps and 1080p 30 fps and building projects with appropriate settings in Premiere and Encore.
I'm wondering if I'm missing a setting in AME or Encore. I thought I'd followed Jeff Bellune's excellent instructions on HD to SD settings in AME to the letter.
I'd like to create DVDs that will play full screen on HDTVs and in letterbox on standard def TVs without viewers having to change the settings on their HDTVs.
FYI, I'm shooting in HD, partially to get really clean keys during the edit, using the Ultra keyer in Premiere. This works great.

I went back and checked all the PAR settings and looked at the monitors in 100% mode. Didn’t solve the problem, but here’s what I found.
I’m using an avi film clip shot at 1080 24p on the Panasonic HPX170P.
In CS5 Premiere, I checked the interpret footage setting on the clip.
It read: Pixel Aspect Ratio: DVCPROHD(1.5)
I right clicked the timeline to see its properties and saw: PAR 1.5.
When I checked the monitor at 100% it zoomed in to a close-up of the middle of the image, compared to a full-screen image in “fit.”
In AME, I used the settings from your Scaling HD to SD using CS4 tutorial and the 1080 24p option.
When I changed the monitor view to 100% and switched back and forth between SOURCE and OUTPUT views, the SOURCE view was tightly zoomed into the center of the frame, and the OUTPUT view was slightly zoomed in, only losing a bit of the sides of the frame. Unchecking "Aspect Ratio Correction" squeezed both source and output monitor images horizontally. I rechecked "Aspect Ratio Correction."
I imported the encoded clip into Encore and checked its PAR.
The PAR was set to “SQUARE 1.0”
The 100% view in the monitor was just slightly zoomed in from the “fit” view.
I tried changing the PAR on the clip in the project window to “Conform to:SD NTSC WIDESCREEN 1.2121.”
This did not change the 100% monitor view.
I saved the project and burned a DVD, but saw no change in the menu or clip size. Still small image centered.
Next I changed the PAR on the clip in the Encore project window to: “Conform to Anamorphic 1.333.”
This shrank the 100% view to show a letterbox view of the clip, showing the entire clip image.
I saved the project and burned a DVD. On the DVD, the menu appeared unchanged, still small and centered. The clip played in full 4:3 aspect ratio, not distorted, with the edges side cropped.
Any other PAR settings I missed I should access and change?
Any additional things for me to try?

16:9 vs 4:3 - can same DVD be made with both?

I recently made a teaching DVD using PPro and Encore and had the option of choosing either NTSC Standard or Widescreen.
The DVD was a slideshow video - using images that were 720 x 480 x 72 dpi - and I chose NTSC Standard 48.
?Should I have chosen "Widescreen" instead? Which option is a better choice - and why?
Also - sometimes a DVD movie gives you the option of choosing either Standard or Widescreen viewing.
?Can I make a DVD that gives the viewer that option?

That is a worthy question. Unfortunately, you will need your crystal ball, or a good dowsing rod.
This will depend on your audience and the equipment (and actually the settings for that equipment) that they have. Some will also depend on your images. As more and more households and companies purchase Widescreen TV's, I'd lean towards that. Right now, I only have one 4:3 TV and it's my NTSC calibrated monitor for PrPro. The last regular 4:3 TV went away in about November, 2009.
Now, if you are sending the DVD out to a lot of folk with 4:3's, then that would be my choice, and let the 16:9 crowd rely on their equipment's settings to handle it.
In a few years, this will probably be moot, but is still very much with us.
I have begun shooting and producing almost everything in Widescreen and will be going to full HD within this year. Until recently, I shot and produced in 4:3, due to the install-base of that Aspect Ratio.

DVD's made with iDVD that once played now don't

DVD's that I created with iDVD several months ago are now not recognized by the Apple DVD Player, even though I was able to play them when I originally burned them. They show-up in the Finder window as blank CD's, and I'm asked if I'd like to burn them.

Yes. Suggestion only: Use Verbatim DVD-R Minus media and not Memorex. Also please burn from a disc image at 4x or slower using apple's DU or Roxio Toast.
Both Len Goff and I agree that verbatim is the media of choice. While Memorex and TDK are often the least desirable.

?? about loading images made with Corel

I have some images that are animated gifs but of course they show up as corel or snapfire and wont load. Is there a way to get around this? I'm no graphics expert but I know these images are in fact gif files. I can get one to load if I make my own in paint.net .....just how true of a gif doe it need to be?

How to filll an image made with the pen tool

when i change the fill, only half goes through properly. its probably a simple fix, im just not sure what im doing wrong. Any ideas will help!

Based on my (mis)understanding the description:
Are you sure you (only) have one full (closed) path?
You can see it in the Layers palette/panel or in the Document Infor palette/panel.

Blu-ray menu button made with dynamic link won't work on Blu-ray disc

Ok. So I used dynmamic link to my encore project and I also imported an mpg.4 as an asset for a separate menu button. I have two buttons on linked to the premire pro project and one linked to the mpg.4. Everything works fine in preview and the flow chart is fine everything is going where its supposed to go.
When I play the blu-ray disc the menu shows, the video thumbnails show...but when I hit the menu button that is supposed to play the premier pro video it does not work. But when I hit the menu button for the mpeg.4 video it does work.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Disc I Made With iDVD Will Not Play Back in DVD Player

I used iDVD to burn DVDs I made with iMovie. The DVDs play back without problem on my home DVD player, but when I try to play them on my Mac G5, the computer keeps ejecting the discs. How can this be? Sureley the discs are compatible with my system or they would not be burnable. Please help!

No this is an often described problem.
To make a DVD playable to as many devices as possibly there are some alt ways
to go,.
1. From iMovie to iDVD: I don't use the Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie.
I drop my movie project icon (with a Star on it) into the open window in iDVD.
2. After done necessary adjustments I go to File/Save as a Disk Image.
3. This disk image I burn with Roxio Toast™ but You can also use Apple Disk Util tool.
4. AT AN AS SLOW speed as possibly eg x1, x2 or x4 => Less errors in burn process.
5. I use Verbatim DVD-R. There are other High Quality brands - this I use.
DVD+R or +/- RW I don't use !!
This DVD should play on nearly all devices.

My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.

sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found
it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
the computer shuts down suddenly.
My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc recording software.
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE.
Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while
my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the
primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and

Restore Backup made with Backup and Restore W7 x64

Im really looking for some help here...
I had my laptop stolen and my now trying to recover a 2013 Backup Image made with a Windows tool called Backup and Restore.
The backup was made with a W7 SP1 64bit using Windows own Backup/Restore utility to create a system image on an external HDD connected by USB port.
The application saved the image into a folder called WindowsImageBackup. Inside this folders there are 2 *.VHD file
So as my laptop was Stolen, im trying to recover this old Backup and save my files again.
I would like to restore that previous Image. These are the steps I took:
1) Plugged in the HDD.
2) I went to Control Panel->Backup and Restore.
3) I selected 'Select another backup to restore files from'.
4) In the Restore Files (Advanced) dialogue, my backup isn't showing into the box, because its on my external drive, so i choose browse network location
5) I clicked 'browse network location' button, and it takes me to another restore files (advanced) dialogue that asks for network folder path. I tried to locate my external HD, without success. So i tried Search Network. As i also have a copy of my
backup on my NAS, i tried to inform the network IP path, but it didnt locate the backup either. I get the error that windows was not able to find any backup sets in that directory.
6) As the step 5 resulted in nothing, i tried the option: Recover system settings or Computer. And then Advanced recovery methods. And finally use previously system image to recover computer. And then Windows asks to reboot the computer and once rebooted
it starts on recovery mode where it cant find my backup image either.
So, how can i recover my backup?
I saw that the Backup created 2 VHD files and also tried to mount the VHD using Disk Management and attaching the VHD. The VHD mounted as drive and i could finally see my files, but most of them are corrupted. So i dont know if im doing something wrong when
attaching the VHD.
Can anyone help me please? I dont know what else to try.

How to export a short film made with still images without loosing quality?

Hi,
I have been trying everything to make a short film, which is made with still images, to look decent once exported however it is a real challenge. Here are the steps I have undertaken:
1- I prepare the photographs and give them the aspect ration of 720p and whatever height as I try not to crop them too much at 300dpi. They look great in photoshop or capture one. I then save them as.tiff. All the images are RGB.
2- I start a new project in premiere pro cs4 and make it DV Pal 25fps.
3-I import the images and place them on the timeline. If they are a bit too big I rescale them. The images seem to look ok on the timeline although I seem to have lost the deepness of the colours.
4-I render the work area
5-I export it as quicktime, dv pal, quality 100.
My dilemna is that although exporting with quicktime, dv pal, quality 100 seems to give me the best quality compared to using quicktime animation, mpeg2, cinemak, avi..., the images are still not as sharp as in Photoshop and the colours look a lot paler and washed out. Also, when looking close to the screens you can see tiny squares on the images although from distance it's not too bad. When I view it from the exported file using Nero it's not too bad although definitely not perfect, as soon as I try to make a DVD and import it in Adobe Encore CS4 or send it by Dynamic Link, the quality looks horrible with images that look soft if not blurred and completely washed out.
I have now tried about t bu15 versions to see what 's the best I still have not reached the optimum quality and since these will be shown on big tvs or projected onto screens I need to nail it.

My overall advice is to do that kind of work in an application that is designed for that. Give Photodex Proshow Producer trial a crack at it. I do a lot of work with stills, and that IMO PSP is the best approach. If you are intermixing the odd still, Pr may get you by. If you plan on doing a lot of that, try proshow, where the workflow and extensive features are designed for making high quality videos from stills that can be output to a wide number of formats and destinations, including color management with many of them( including avi). And, no need to resize. I know this won't solve your present problem.
Obviously, your attempt in Pr has not worked out as you had hoped. Maybe a bit more info would help. How are you rescaling them in Pr? That might well account for some quality loss. What is the original format and size of the images? What color management are you using in PS? Are you using any color correction or effects in Pr? Is your project interlaced or progressive?
From your description, you are not even getting the quality you should be getting from Pr IMO, though as Jim says, it is video and it will never look as pristine as it does in PS, but it still seems to me that something you are doing has degraded the work more than normally would be expected.

Importing DVDs to a Macbook Pro that were made with a Powerbook

I have many iMovies made with a PowerBook from way back when that i recently tried to open with iMovie on my MBP. None would open. I assume they need to be converted somehow Can this be done? If yes, how? If not, I did make DVDs of the movies, again using iDVD with the Powerbook. Can these be ripped to my MBP? If yes, how. Thanks in advance.

If you are importing into iPhoto, you can create a new Event and drag in the "Last Import" into that event. I don't work with iPhoto that much, so there may be a better way to create an event.
If you are just importing into a folder, name the folder as you wish.

Interesting to know about 10.8 and Flash. I'll hold off upgrading until they work together. Currently using 10.6.8 at home and same on the Universtity's computers.
Haven't verified on Windows but shall do later in the week if I can get access to a Windows machine.
Both the Flash player and the Projector come up not full screen, and if I leave it that way then things work OK as long as I don't make the video full screen (using the full screen button on the skin).
However if I make the swf or projector full-screen (by using CMD-F or the menu option) then when I click on the menu item to take me to the page with the video on it, instead of a page with a smallish video and back button I get a black screen with no obvious controls. If I then press Escape I get my normal screen back and I am in the page that should have the video but there is not video and the back button does not work. So something wierd is going on here.
If I make a file without any videos with a similar navigation structure everyting works ok except that when I go full screen I lose the finger cursor when I roll over my buttons (which is also wierd).

Duplicating DVDs made with DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2

I cannot duplicate dvds made with DVD Studio Pro. I could with my prior version but since upgrading, I am unable to. The duplicator says: Source and target size mismatch - or something like that. I have seen only one other complaint about this and they said to burn the dvd to the hard disc and copy from there. This did not work. Same error message comes up on the duplicator. I can't burn all these dvds one at a time!!!!! Any solutions out there?

It is also good to include as much information about what you are using to help others see if they can be of assistance. I know it can be frustrating trying to finish up and something goes wrong. Some days many people reply, other times, such as the problem I have with connecting to background process after the last quick update, hardly anyone replies. I hope that someone might be able to offer assistance.
You say you have 4.2.2, not 4.1.2? I have not seen that update, is it for an intel model? I am still using a Dual G4 1.42 with 4.1.2.
Which duplicator are you using? It would be good to include that so those using that brand/model can replay.
Is the DVD you recorded on and the ones used for duplications the same brand/size/type?
While I know this can take a while, in a pinch, such as not, just keep DVDSP fired up and feeding your DVD burner.
I only have to do 6 to 8 copies at a time so I use my DVD burner from DVDSP or save the DVD as a disk image using Toast Titanium 8 and opened it in toast to duplicate via the DVD burner.

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty. That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.
