Back-up and New Start for my iBook

I have an iBook (Power PC G3) which is running on Mac OS X 10.1.5 at the moment and struggling with that. I have just got an external firewire hard drive and an extra 256 MB RAM to help it along, and am now considering how best to back up what's on it, completely clear it and restart, possibly with a newer OS. As I've never done anything like that before I would be very grateful to anybody who can give me directions on how best to do it.
I have also heard that partitioning the hard drive could be a good idea, to put the OS and software on one partition and my files on another - is that to be recommended? Is there anything I need to be careful of? Do I also need to partition my external drive for the back-up? I already have some files on it - would I have to put them on a CD first and reformat?
What's the best way of backing up my files and programmes? Can I just copy my hard drive to the external drive or do I need to use a special programme to make a backup?

How large is your internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD)?
How large is your external FireWire HDD?
Some observations:
Good move getting an external HDD. The larger the better.
If you have a very small internal HDD you might want to replace that eventually.
Creating partitions, if you have a very large external, can be useful. However, it is not a good idea to put your OS, applications or data on different partitions. It has a number of drawbacks. One of them is that as your data grows if you need the space that is on one of the other partitions, you have a real problem. Another, the whole OS is designed to work together, and is more efficient if the OS, applications and data are on the same partition.
I have my external FW HDD set up so that I have a partition of the size of my internal HDD for backing up my internal HDD. I have a partition on which I have the previous OS installed. I have one that I call Scratch, but for moving things around or storing odds and ends etc.
You need to upgrade your OS to a more stable version of OS X. I suggest Panther (10.3x) but your computer will support Tiger as well (10.4x) Here are the minimum system requirements for Panther, and for Tiger. You will need to purchase the Full Retail version of Tiger or of Panther . Be aware that Computer specific or upgrade versions should be avoided as they can cause problems. Besides, it may be a violation of the Software License Agreement which statesThis License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time...Tiger can be purchased from the Apple Store and Panther (or Tiger on CDs) from applerescue.
Finally, how to backup your internal HDD to your external Firewire HDD. The preferred method is to clone your entire internal HDD using a utility like Carbon Copy Cloner(CCC) or SuperDuper(SD). You will first need to format your external HDD using Disk Tuility (post back for more help with this). Make sure that the Volume Format is Mac OS Extended. When you use either CCC or SD, make sure you select the option to Make Bootable.

Additive delta --- We will get the changed quantity.
say suppose you have sales order and quantity like 1111 30 which is loaded to cube(BW).
now same record qty has changed from 30 to 40. As we have additive delta, we will get new record as 1111 10.
new status for change record: This is same as like After image delta type in standard SAP data sources. for every change in record you should have new record.
say if you have any number which will be generated by system for new/changed record, then you can use this.
You can use this option when delta option set to "numeric pointer"

Why when i use a new apple Id and new id for icloud all my information is gone? For example all my contracts are all gone.

I don't know why when i used a new apple ID and new icloud ID all my information is done. My contracts are all gone. This only happen on on phone. When i was changing the other phones it works fine. Nothing is lost. So i dont understand when i was changing the apple ID and icloud Id the information is lost. You know when you go to setting and you click iCloud and i saw that the contracts book was light on. Does that matter? Does that cause i lost my contracts?

I don't think the iPhone is really designed for people to be switching from one Apple ID to another so when you do so you may experience problems. You have two options on the iPhone for where you can be accessing contacts, from iCloud and the iPhone itself. You can also pull contacts off of a SIM card but they are then stored on the iPhone and not accessed from the SIM card.
You could try this;
1. Go to Settings > iCloud
2. Sign in to the Apple ID that you want the Contacts from,
3. Turn "On" the Contacts slider and let it download all of your contacts
4. When it's done downloading, turn the slider back to "Off" and you should get a message like this..."What would you like to do with the previously synced iCloud contacts on your iPhone?"
5. Then select "Keep on My iPhone"
Then after that you can then sign out of that Apple ID and into your other Apple ID and the contacts shouls still be there.

After upgrading to Snow Leopard two weeks ago, I get a little square grey box under the upper-left Apple icon which doesn't move and blocks the back arrow and three buttons for minimizing, deleting, etc. Why?

Trouble finding memo pad info and new update for bold on i mac

I bought a new apple i mac and bold 9700. I had a lot of info on my bold and i did the update and all appeared to be fine. I went to access my memo info and i couldn't even find the app. I can see that i have a few items on the original back up and i try to re instal and still cant get it on my phone nor can i read it on the i mac. I am having the same problem with my HP Officejet Pro 8500. This all-in one is connected to my MacBook Pro by wireless. Everything worked fine until I installed Security Update 2009-004 1.0 this evening. Now I can print, but I cannot scan to the computer. I get an error message that says, "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)" The firewall is set to allow all incoming connections. Any ideas? Is there a way to uninstall Security Update 2009-004?

Can I use One Hard Drive for 2x Time Machine Back Ups and another partition for all my data?

Anothe partition for all my data.
then have that RAID'd to second disc?

and if this set up was on one disc, and one partition for one TM was for the Mini that has this drive attached, would TM back up this whole drive 2x TM Partitions and 1x partitions with data on, ok? it wouldn't get confused by trying to back itself up

When you buy an Adobe application second hand, you need a licence transfer through Adobe. The (final) application cannot have been used for any kind of upgrade, but it may be an upgrade itself and require serial numbers from the one(s) that went before it.

Where do I send a long list of problems I have with non-functionality with the Lion OSX and new Safari for Lion.

In the past two weeks I have been documenting my Lion problems.
First, Arrows gone from finder windows; makes it difficult in comparing long lists of files in folder, or compare documents when reviewing line by line. This is obviously a change by people who do not compare long lists in windows comparing files between versions of projects ... the click to next screen is NOT equal to arrows.
Second, Finder Redreaw - doesn't. Move files to a fold, if there are a lot of files, they image of the files being moved remains in finder (see attached screen capture) until Finder is restarted and if COPY function is running. last files in Copy queue are not copied.
Screen capture 5 minutes after moving files to a folder - the selected file images are still in Finder after the move was completed.
Third, it is SLOW, particularly going to an "Attach file" in email, drawing the content of a folder to select an attachment is long enough for me to go to the kitchen, get a drink and come back. Just like the old days of OS7.
Fourth, shifting/recentering screen away from where I am working. Several programs, browsers, Adobe Photoshop/inDesign, and dear old Pages re center my screen - not to the center, but if I choose 30 of 70 images in a folder, it will shift … somewhere else in the folder instead of where I just clicked. If I am working on a document in inDesign or PhotoShop it will do the same - the cursor and screen drift elsewhere to find something it has been amused by. Sometimes it is a word, or a file, but often it is off the pastboard and on the etherial pasteboard on which the pages sit. Or if I'm zoomed in on an image, it moves to somewhere else.
I use a mouse and keyboard, both Apple wireless. I do not use a trackpad, but have a tablet/stylus I am afraid to put into the mix until this crap is stopped.
Fifth, SAVE AS… is gone. You must unlock, duplicate and edit the duplicate … and must rename it in Finder, or use EXPORT to save as the same format under a new name. SAVE AS… worked. Not broke, why fix it?
Personal Comment: The problems seem to be the triumph of coked up software engineers ooohing and aaahing over "Wouldn't it be cool if..." Cool, if they were Microsoft, and required everyone change how they have worked on Macs for the past (almost) three decades. Triumph of brainstorming over functionality.
Sixth, I can't use Cocoa Booklet, but that really started in OSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Most of my X11/Cocoa programs stopped worked about that time. Apple is no longer supporting "open source"?
But Wait! There's More...
Seventh, Tonight, trying to download a 1.7 gig archive onto a disk where 280 Gigs were supposedly free, it would not download because, according to the wonderful new Safari and the wonderful new Lion, there is not enough disk space to download a 1.7 gig file in a mere 280 Gigs of free space.
I might be able to move Snow Leopard onto the iMac, but my deciding factor was that Apple, in its wisdom, decided to make iBook Author unable to run under Snow Leopard. So moving to Snow Leopard means I have lost the ONLY benefit I get from the new computer and the new system.
This really stinks.

Where can I get a new adapter for my iBook clamshell model M6411?

Hi, my iBook clamshell is a little ancient but in perfect working order. However, the power cord is completely damaged and emits blue sparks when plugged in, so need a replacement. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement from? I tried ebay and have tried several online shops but the ones I have been sent for this model have all had the wrong size end to go into the laptop.
Its an ibook clamshell, blueberry and is model M6411. The adapter is the 45w power adapter. Can anyone help me please?

Lightroom 3.3 and New Preset for External Editor

I have a strange problem here. Using Windows XP Profesional, SP3 4gb Ram.
When I want to add a new External Editor, I open Edit -> Preferences ->Additional External Editor.
I set my parameteres, choosing Photoshop CS4...same as in the Edit In Photoshop CS4 section above it, except that this time, I want to change the Bit-Depth to 8-bit and the resolution to 300, I do that and save the new preset as "Photoshop 8-bit". All OK. I close Lightroom so that the changes can take effect (not sure if I need to).
When, in the Develop module, I find a picture that I want to edit in Photoshop, I right click the image (or Photo -> Edit In) and choose my new preset "Photoshop 8-bit".
The next dialogue opens, and behold...I get the standard Edit In Photoshop CS4 dialogue box. Clicking Copy File Options confirms that I am opening the file using the original Edit In Photoshop CS4 (the top option group in the Edit ->Preferences section). The bit-depth is back to 16 bit, and the resolution is back to 240.
What happened to my new preset? Why is the open file reverting to the original Edit in Photoshop CS4, and not my new preset conditions?
What have I done wrong? Solutions? It all looked pretty straightforward in Ms Kost's AdobeTV programme.

Firefox keeps closing the web site page I am typing on andkeeps going back to a new start page s back to start

While i am typing info on the keyboard e.g. on google maps or on my email page to send a message, firefox keeps jumping back to its start page and I have to start all over. What can I do to stop this from happening?

To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following. 
* In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter. 
* In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL''' 
* Double click it and remove whatever's in there (probably Yahoo) and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q= 
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

How to check old and new value for a text item attached to a lov?

I need your help in following.
I have a form which has a text item which is attached to a LOV. I want to track what changes are being done using that form. So i want to know what was old value and what is new value.
I can get the new value as it is there in form field. how can i know what was the old value.

This is wrong:
name_in(':' ||l_audit_block.field_name)
this is right and will get you the current value of the the item:
name_in('l_audit_block.field_name');
Assuming the name of you block is "l_audit_block" and the name of your item is "field_name".
Please note name_in() returns your current value for an item. In your case this may or may not be the "old" value. I define "old" value as the value it was when it was queried. If that is what you are looking for you need to use the get_item_property() call that Steve described above.
