Back up data from Windows 7 OS to Airport time Capsule

Hi Can anyone advice how to back up data from windows 7 laptop to Airport Time capsule

You need a suitable backup utility.. in home version.. microsoft backup cannot use network drives.. thanks for the product differenatiantion Bill.. very helpful.. nobody who has a home version windows would ever want to back up to a network drive would they. It is obvious.
Macrium Reflect is one I have used. Free version fine for full disk but you need to pay for incremental.
Genie time line.. there is also a free version might be ok.

  • How do I move data from old hard drive to the time capsule?

    Hi ,
I got the Time Capsule a couple days ago and have been backing up my Macbook pro's data. I have an old Lacie 160G external hard drive with data I'd like to put into the time capsule. The only way it can do that now seems like I have to transfer the data from the Lacie to my mac ...then backs it up automatically to the Time Capsule.
However, my 256G of space on my mac is about to be full !
The time machine automatically puts my Lacie hard drive as excluded from being backed up and the button - (to remove it) doesn't work when an external hard drive is connected to the Macbook. Right now, my trust in the time capsule is not superb. I've tried intentionally to delete a video file on my Macbook and then see if I could retrieve it . I've had one fail/error and one success. Since one failed I have not dared to delete anything.
So..the plan is to delete files on my Macbook and then import data from my Lacie to my Macbook...and pray the time capsule will save everything?
Can anyone with experience tell me how to use the time capsule correctly?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kai

The TM should be able to include the LaCie if it is formatted HFS+. If it isn't then no .. TM cannot backup.
On Yosemite the simple fact is TM is working poorly.. we are awaiting a patch or 6 to fix some of the issues.. but it is being extra flakey.
This is just a very personal opinion but I purchased Carbon Copy Cloner a couple of years ago.. very good purchase.. Easy to use.. reliable.. can backup network drives and disks that are not HFS+ formatted.. plus it can make a bootable clone.. It can backup separately your internal drive and your external drive to different sparsebundles on the TC.. I reckon for $40.. it is well worth it.
Otherwise you are stuck with the Yosemite / TM bugs.. good luck with those..
And more so the fact that TM is simply limited in its ability.
At least create a disk image on the TC and copy manually the files from the external drive into it. You do not need to copy the files to the Mac to do this..
But I think I would be buying another decent sized external drive.. 160GB drives.. sounds ancient..
How to use data and backups properly on a TC.

  • What steps to back up files from OS 10.4.11 to Time Capsule?

I have purchased a Time Capsule and backed up my Macbook Pro (Leopard) on it using Time Machine, BUT now ALSO want to save volumes from Mac Pro 10.4.11 so that I can access its files (not applications) once I do a complete wipe of the Mac Pro and install of Lion on it (yes, it meets minimum requirements for Lion) from the thumb drive.  I do not want to purchase another external hard drive, as my understanding was the Time Machine will do this.   Please help me - thanks.

You drag the files to the Time Capsule manually, or use a third-party product capable of backing up to a network drive or disk image(just drag the image over).

  • Can I hook up a windows computer to my airport time capsule for internet access?

We have hooked up our time capsule for the first time today.  It works wonderful on our apple products BUT can I connect a windows based computer to it for internet access?

Yes. Both Ethernet and 802.11 are cross-platform.

  • Best way to Back up data from Windows PC to my Mac?

What is the best way that I can connect my Mac to one of my friends PCs so that I can back up his personal data then reinstall his OS?

That's going to be really tough without a spare HD for the Mac... but then you could just hook that to the PC for faster backup.

But I should question why you want to back it up then restore it... is it infected or something? Normally you'd erase everything and Install anew to get rid of problems... if you don't have previous Restore Points set, (which doesn't work 100% either btw).

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.

And my iTunes sign in is also screwed up... It is underneath my friends email (the one with my backed up data on his Mac laptop) HOW DO I CHANGE THIS SO THAT I CAN DOWNLOAD APP's again...

I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone.  Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

  • Once bootcamp is installed on my Mac, how easy is it to go back and forth from windows to Mac? Just a press of button or do I have to completely log off of one to go to the other?

Once bootcamp is installed on my Mac, how easy is it to go back and forth from windows to Mac? Just a press of button or do I have to completely log off of one to go to the other?

Using vitual machine programs (VirtualBox, Parallels, VMWare Fusion) you can run both at the same time.
Load Windows under BootCamp.  Then load the VM software and select the existing BootCamp partition as the "virtualized space".
But ... BootCamp first, following Csound1's advice about backups.  And you will wantto boost RAM most likely because you need to allocate certain amount of system RAM to each "virtual machine", as well as leaving some for OSX.
    But ... BootCamp first.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are referring to the first generation Apple TV, then you cannot sync content which is stored on its hard drive back to iTunes.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

Open the Users folder on the internal drive, drag all of the other home folders to the desktop, and then move the files inside to the desired locations.
