Back Up Data Windows XP
I am trying to back up my songs that I purchased at I tune Store to DVD Media and I keep getting an error message Error 261? Also, I need to know how to back up and keep my Artwork for later recovery. Should I use the Data CD setting?.
Already tried to back up to a DVD and it started and then the computer spit it out and it was runed so I had to throw it away. Can't keep this up too expensive to keep trashing DVD's .
Please help!

Yes I am running the latest version of I tunes. If I can't back up my songs and Artwork what is the point of purchasing anything more from I tunes store.
As a paying customer I get a little upset becasue I have a lot of songs that I purchased and need to keep them backed up. I have a HP Media center and it's important that my files can be restored in case of a failure.

Macrium Reflect is one I have used. Free version fine for full disk but you need to pay for incremental.

It sounds like you are unable to see your contacts in the phone, but have confirmed they are still at http://www.icloud.com. I would next try these troubleshooting steps from the article named:

If you're using iOS 7, quit and restart the Contacts app on your iOS device:
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Contacts preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
Tap the Home button to return to your Home screen.
Wait a minute before reopening the Contacts app.
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on:
Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn Contacts off. Choose to delete data only if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Contacts back on.
Restart your iOS device by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and then swiping the screen when prompted to power off. Then turn your device back on. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

please help...we updated ipod2 4.1 to IOS 5.1 at itunes...after it was finished only the contacts were restored...not the music & videos...iwe found the backed up data in the pc(windows 7)after entering %appdata%..pls help on how to restore...we will appreciate it very much....thanks! God bless!
The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like app, music and videos. Thus, you wll have to resync those back to your iPod.

I have a external back-up that my iMac (10.6.8) won't mount. Is there a way to mount without intializing and losing back-up data? I used time machine to back-up to a Seagate Go-flex hard drive. I get a message from my iMac that says it doesn't recognize this drive and wants to initialize. Hope someone can help.
Try connecting the drive to a Windows machine, then ejecting. If it won't eject properly, restart the Windows machine, and try again. Then try connecting it to the Mac.

Why when I use the back arrow the window disappears?
I don't like Safari for other reasons. Now all the sudden I am having trouble with my windows. Its like I have lost the ability to navagate. Now when I press the back arrow the window disapepars. I only use Safari because I have a MAC. Firefox is much better and I use it more. I hope that I am just confused. It Safari becomes harder I don't know what I will do.
The back arrow by itself shouldn't do anything in Safari, unless a text-entry field is active.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -

User confusion on migrating backed up data following reinstall
My MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8) was going slow. I decided to reinstall OSX. All my data was backed up to my compatible external HD.
I then erased my MacBook HD, and reinstalled OSX off the install disc and bundled applications disc. I went through the steps to set up the administrator account, and did all the other things in the instal process. I then did all necessary software updates.
When all that was complete, I connected my external HS and opened migration assistant, and imported all the data from the latest backup.
I now find that all my backed up data from before is under a different user account - named as in the old OSX set up.
How do I populate my newly installed iTunes and iPhoto with the imported data stored under the 'old' username?
Shouldn't this have happened automatically?I'm not a whizz with iPhoto, in fact I rarely use it, but you can try first finding the iPhoto Library and checking that all the photos are there. You'll find that in your home folder (house icon) > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
That looks like a single file, but it's actually a package, so right-click (or ctrl-click) on it and choose "Show package Contents" from the context menu.
In the new window that opens, locate the Originals folder. Your pics should be there, probably in lots of sub-folders by year, month etc.
If they're all OK, try opening iPhoto with the opt key held down. Keep the opt key held until a box appears asking if you want to create a new library or use an existing one.
Choose the existing one and point the application to it.
Hopefully that will do it.
Otherwise we need someone who knows more about transferring iPhoto between drives. -
My new Iphone 4s using the Icloud, will not push calendar changes back to my windows 7 laptop Outlook 10. It does perfectly push calendar changes from my laptop to the iphone, but it will not work the other way. We've checked the box in Itunes that says "sync the phone using WIFI" per the instructions from the Apple support people. any great ideas?
"Ok, new info. This gets better and better.
In OL2010, the Calendar in the navigation pane had no arrow indicating it had subcalendars within it. I right clicked on Calendar and chose New Calendar. It gave me a list of the existing calendars that were missing !!
When I cancelled, there was an expand arrow next to Calendar in the Navigation pane !!!!!
Expanding it showed the unchecked missing calendars. I checked them and synched again.
WRONG THING TO DO! ALL my wife's calendar entries in her iPhone since the laptop went down 3 weeks ago DISAPPEARED. No warnings, nothing at any step of this process. The OL files overwrote the iPhone data.
I can't find any way to get them back as this **** iStuff relies on iTunes for everything.
Is there any way to get her files back from before this synch?
Is there no way to save data files off the iPhone w/o iTunes?
Why doesn't iTunes let you control the direction of data transfer?

The code is based on what I found in AppleScript 1-2-3 (page 300). It shows examples for getting text and numbers but not one for dates.
For what it is worth, my goal is to create a script that will convert an email from Evernote into an iCal Reminder. To do so, I want to ask the user (myself) for the reminder's date and time. I am assuming I need to ask for each separately. I also assume that once I get the date and time for the reminder, it should be relatively straightforward to 'make' a 'todo' with an alarm.

TM backup: can I use two drives to back up data on two other drives?

I have with me a 1 TB/ Thunderbolt EHD [external hard drive], a Lacie 2 TB/FW, EHD, a Seagate 2 TB/ 2 USB, EHD, a Seagate 3 TB/ 2 USB, EHD and [to be purchased] a Seagate 2 TB/ 2 USB, EHD.
I mainly use my Mac for making HD videos using FCPX.
I am planning to use these drives in the following manner as indicated by the table below:

Another question on my mind is this: do I need to partition the drive 'e' at all?

Good issue to Production order - Allows it in back posting date
Dear all,
Good issue to Production order ( 261 Movement ), allows us to post the component in back dated eventhough stock is not avaible on that date.
Example - Component stock on date 10.02.2010 = Zero , I made it Good receipt on date 18.02.2010 and now stock is available on date 18.02.2010.
Now GI to Production it allows the qty on current and back Posting date also , I want control on date with error message. It should not allowed the GI for back date from 18.02.2010.
Because of this our MB5B report shows the negetive issue qty if i post in back date.

PLease check whether Negative Stock is allowed for the valuation Area (plant).

Can I use two different devices with different apple ID for backing up data on one machine without losing any data that was backed up with one device earlier?

how do you remove back up data from the memory storage? my storage data states that i have over 80gb of data used for back ups and i dont know why as i use a external hard drive as a time machine .now my 250gb flash storage is nearly full.. HELP!
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
