Back Up Failed Due to lack of space on Time Capsule

I purchased a new mac...was able to recover the data off my time capsule just fine...then returned the mac after getting my old mac back from repair....and I haven't been able to back up to my time capsule since...I keep recieving the following error...
This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires 224.69 GB but only 178.45 GB are available.
Time Machine needs work space on the backup disk, in addition to the space required to store backups. Open Time Machine preferences to select a larger backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding files.
I have no problems removing data from my time capsule to make room for a back up, but I don't know how...I just don't understand why it's not removing the old backups automatically to create the new back as it did in the past before I switch b/w the new mac back to my old mac...
Please advise...Thank you

Hi Folks - hoping this is an easy question, i have been a happy Time Capsule users for well over a year now - never really had to touch it - today its run out of space - I just now have to many files, movies, photo's etc - the TC is 500GB - can I simply add a 1GB external USB drive and use that as my TC backup drive in place of the 500GB internal?

  • CoPilot will not upgrade due to lack of space on iPhone

This issue is occuring on both a 3G and 3Gs phone that we own. I have read on forums outside of here that others are having the same issue. When I origally tried to install CoPilot it told me there was not enough free space to install the 1.3g app. My phone had 5gig free at that time. I uninstalled some videos to free up more space and got it to 11gig free. Still got the same message of not having enough free space. I unplugged the iphone, shut down iTunes and rebooted pc. CoPilot app then installed. After CoPilot installed I resynced movies and all was fine. Same exact thing happened on both phones. Then 2 days later CoPilot came out with an update. I ran into the same issue for the update. My 3g had 9 gig free and iTunes still said it could not install CoPilot for lack of free space. I have looked at the other forums and they say to look at the "other" section of storage on the iPhones, but both of these phones show little memory usage there. My theory is that in the code of CoPilot someone put in an extra digit in the memory requirements and instead of looking for 1.3 gig of free memory it is looking for 13gig of free memory. It is a real big hassle to delete things off of iPhone just to get an app to install.

I have this exact problem, but with slightly different figures. When I originally tried to install CoPilot (which is about 1.5 Gb) there was about 4 Gb free, but the install continually failed due to lack of space on the iPhone (16 Mb 3G). I had to remove a load of music to get enough space to install.
Now there's a CoPilot update and with even 3.5Gb available on the phone, I just get that same error and it won't install. I then deleted CoPilot so there was almost 5 Gb free and tried again and I think it is now OK (currently sync'ing, but very slow).
I don't think this is a CoPilot issue as many users seem to be experiencing similar problems with other apps. I think perhaps it's more likely with CoPilot because it is relatively large. But the fact remains that the iPhone seem to need more than 3 times the size of the app in order to even update it which is truly a PIA and takes a lot of messing about to get around the problem.
Anyone know of a fix to this? I guess it's really a bug and needs to be reported to iPhone feedback).

  • Itunes cannot sync due to lack of space on iphone, but itunes also indicates 8GB free?

So im trying to sync my phone to itunes, and it clearly says there's 7-8 gb free in the space bar on the itunes iphone window. However whenever i try and sync it tells me I need 500 mb of additional space.
Anyone come across this problem before?

If the free disk space on your Mac is too small to backup and your iPhone then it has too little free space to run properly.
You need to start doing some removal of data to free up space on the disk drive. The data can be either deleted or moved to another disk drive. what ever you do leave the system files alone and work with the files in your Home directory only.
The first thin you need to do is to make sure you have a backup of the Mac first.

After I done this I noticed all my music was gone from itunes so I decided to move the music folder back to the c drive to try fix the problem. All my music and playlists etc are still missing from itunes. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem???

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Rentals are a one-time only download from the store. If you can't free up enough space on your phone for it then you can try the 'report a problem' link to contact iTunes Support and see if they grant you a redownload for your Mac : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • My iPad will not let me download an iTunes movie due to lack of space but I purchased more space and it still won't work

My iPad will not let me download an iTunes movie due to lack of space but I purchased more space and it still won't work

As stated above - purchasing more space in iCloud has nothing to do with this. You do not have enough space left on the iPad for the movie to download, you need to delete content on the device itself.
You may want to transfer purchases to iTunes and then delete some content on the device to make room.
    Transfer purchases.

This article explains how to delete content from the device

Do not delete any important content without backing up, transferring purchases or transferring files to your computer.

  • After upgrading to iOS 5, I lost my contacts, calendar entries, and Notes on my iPhone 3GS (3 years old). How do I retrieve them? My last backup/sync to iTunes acct was Sept 18 but yesterday's backup bombed due to lack of space on my C: drive.

Yikes! After upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5, I lost my Contacts, calendar entries, and Notes (100+) on my iPhone (3 years old). How do I retrieve them? My last backup/sync to iTunes acct was Sept 18 but yesterday's backup bombed due to lack of space on my C: drive.

This happened to me too but it was really all there.  Go to your calendar, click on calendar in the upper left hand corner, click on show all calendars, click done in the right upper corner.  Everything should show up!!!
I was super thrilled.  Hope this works for you!!

Clear space on your iPhone (go to Settings > General > Usage) and complete the download there.
If you rented the movie on your iPhone, it can only be viewed on your iPhone.

  • Unable to install updates due to lack of space in phone memory

    Hello,
I am unable to install software updates into my phone due to lack of space in phone memory. Some non movable apps need to be moved to sd card. Give me suggetion.

    @Sekhar1987,
Unfortunately you can not move apps from phone memory to the SD card without rooting. (rooting will void your warranty)
Search the forum and you'll find many similar topics.

  • App won't install due to lack of space - with enough space on the phone

I try to install the navigation TomTom western Europe with size 1,6 gb. ITunes and phone says that I have 2,7GB free, but it refuse to install due to lack of space?

Navigon needs at least 3.3gb to install(Twice the apps size, at a minimum). To make sure you have enough space you should allow no less than 4gb. The space will be freed up once installation is complete.

  • Time Machine using up all space on Time Capsule?

    Hello all,
I just came across a post which states that Apple does not recommend using Time Capsule for anything else than Time Machine because Time Machine would eventually use up all the space on Time Capsule.
Would seem like a lot of wasted space to me (I have a 2TB TC), and while the family uses Time Machine with this TC, we are using TC to store all the family's media in separate files as well, so everyone can take just the media they want on their MacBooks. This way, the MacBooks don't fill up too much and we can share all media among the family wirelessly when needed.
Is there any risk of Time Machine writing over the media files by default? Any other risks with this setup?
    Many thanks!

+Is there any risk of Time Machine writing over the media files by default?+
no. but TM will start deleting older backups as soon as it feels it is running out of space on the drive.

  • IMovie '11: How do I back up files when the lack of space error message demands an application reboot?

I am struggling with a problem that appears to be a consistent one when I use iMovie. As soon as the project is complete and I attempt to export it, I always receive a message requiring that the application be rebooted due to lack of memory. However, I know from past experience that rebooting it causes me to completely lose access to the file - it disappears from iMovie and cannot be found saved anywhere else. I have tried to move many rejected clips to the trash to free up memory space, but this has failed. I have also tried to delete the clips through iPhoto and finder, but neither option has succeeded in removing them from iMovie. I do not want to lose my current project in the way I have lost others! Help, please??
