Back-up failure

Hi. When trying to back up to my time capsule, I received the following eror message "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Matthysen-Ruttagah’s Mac mini.sparsebundle” could not be created (error 17).". When trying for assistance through clicking on the question-mark, I'm told the topic is unavailable.
Is there anyone who knows how to fix this. Thanks in advance.

I presume this is not the first backup, but is a standard backup that has failed??
Did you try a reboot of the TC.. ie pull out the power cord.. count to 10.. plug it back in.
That is the main fix these days for apple network stuff.

Your naming is very long.. too long.. more than 25 characters is a no-no. That may cause trouble.

I strongly recommend using names in the TC that are SMB compatible.. ie windows networking which is the base simple way to get things working.
Short.. no more than 20 characters.. 10 is good.. even less is excellent.
No spaces.. spaces are simply replaced by hypen in the network name.. get rid of them.
No strange characters .. keep it pure alphanumeric.. apple apostrophe is a shocker.

Hi Team , now I have a different problem . Windows XP 2,000.Mozilla Firefox and G Mail - The problem is in Gmail.
Someone has installed an e-mail controller that comes up as if Avast , copy my e-mails and goes away. It has the Avast Icon. It says:189.174.127.135 dyn.infinity.prod .While it is working, I have 2 Avast icons down , right below the screen . .Sometimes it writes: the client is connected. or , there are no new e-mails or it simply starts to do its "job".
I have Google as the opening page.I would like to get rid of Google and Gmail.
They have also removed the Google translator.
What solutions do you have to this problem?I do not like Hotmail .

In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

IPhone 5 Back up failure to iCloud

Hi there
I have an iPhone 5 running IOS 7.0.3. I am running out of capacity on the phone so need to back up to iCloud, however, whenever I do it hangs with 'Estimating time remaining' then states that the back up has failed. It backs up to Mac absolutely perfectly. I've plugged in, locked, connected to wifi etc as required but cannot seem to engage a successful back up. I have 200gb of space on iCloud so that isn't the issue, any help would be much appreciated.

First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

Back Up failure at the end of syncing iPhone 3GS to to iTunes 10.1.2

Have an issue with backup process during sync- not sure but it may have been just since iTunes 10 update. The sync process happens ok until the end when I get an error message stating 'iTunes cannot back up the iPhone "tenorclef31's iPhone" because the backup cannot be saved on the computer.'
Any way around it? All the software/iOS is up to date. I'm a bit wary of restoring the iPhone to factory settings since (a) it is working well otherwise and most of my important stuff is either on Dropbox or synced via Exchange 2007 anyway and (b) the restore might set me back quite a bit if there has been no recent backups made.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I've had the same issue. I followed the instructions on the linked page and deleted the one backup. Now when I try to backup I get the message that it cannot backup because the backup is corrupt. I keep checking in the Setting/Devices page and there are NO backups listed. Also, the linked page says that the backups should live in the directory:
\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
(I'm running windows XP). There is no such directory. There is no "Application Data" directory under any of the Documents and Settings subdirectories. I do not want to do a restore since my phone is working ok, and doing the restore would mean that I would lose all of my Apps.

Time Capsule - continued back-up failures

Since 8 April my 2TB Time Capsule is either extremely slow in backing-up or aborts the back-up just before finishing. Time Capsule states that my last back-up was on 8 April 2015. Since then I only installed a Download Shuttle update (9 April), an iTunes update (10 April) and and OS X Yosemite update (17 April) according to my App Store.
A few times I have disconnected the electricity feed to the Time Capsule, as normally all problems then disappear after starting up again. This time not.
I have also used the verification tool of Disk Utility which was extremely slow and took some 24 hours and then told me to use the "repair" option for the Time Capsule disk. Unfortunately, the "repair" option of Disk Utility aborts quite quickly telling that it was "unable to unmount the volume for repair".
Please advise what to do next.

Do this only after you have backed up to another device.
If a backup is in progress, cancel it. Hold down the option key and select Verify Backups from the Time Machine menu in the menu bar (not the Dock icon.) This operation may take a long time. If the menu-bar icon (a clock that runs backwards) isn't showing, check Show Time Machine in menu bar in the preferences.

Connection timeout / Back up Failure / Just generally not working.

I'm loosing the will to live with this now.
it worked perfectly for 2 weeks and now suddenly if i leave the room with the time capsule in my internet stops loading web pages and messengers disconnect, then the airport starts confusing me.
ive taken some screen shots to show what is happening when i run the diagnostic and trying to connect in the network preferences.
im using a router my ISP is Virgin/NTL from that its connected to the time capsule by Ethernet and that is all.
i got a new macbook and had erased the backups on the time capsule but now it wont back up on my new one.

Sat in the same room a little further back from the time capsule I lost my connection again,
well
it says its connected and has an IP address but web pages dont load and messengers log out.
i tried running the diagnostic and it said "scanning" and just didn't do anything for at least 3/5 minutes, i stopped it.

HT201514 time capsule back-up failure

I have started getting a back failed update from my time capsule. When I try to enter get unable to complete transaction error code 6584. Has anyone seen this before and can provide some guidance?

Yes, the reboot is always a good start now that Apple write software that doesn't have the long term stability it used to.
The error code is well known.. the backup needs to be verified.

Since installing OS X Yosemite recovery update v.1 on 10/04/15 I have had "Back-up failure" messages. Last successful back-up was 10/04/15 before update. Any suggestions?

Since installing:
a) OS X Yosemite Recovery update v.1; b) OS X Update v.10.10.3 & c) iTunes v.12.1.2 on 10/04/15I have been getting this message.
"Back up Failed - There is not enough space on Time Machine Backup"
The last successful back-up was on the 10/04/15 presumably just prior to these new updates.
Any suggestions?

Time Machine automatically deletes old snapshots to make room for new ones, but it won't delete the last previous snapshot of any disk.
Are you storing any other data on the backup volume, or have you ever backed up another disk or computer to it that you no longer have? If the answer to both these questions in "no," then there isn't enough space on the volume for all the data you want to back up.
If you are storing other data, or if you have backups of a volume you no longer need, you should move or delete that data to make room for more. Alternatively, put the device aside and start a new backup on another storage device. When you're sure you'll no longer need the data on the first device, erase it and start over.

I have dealt with this on old BlackBerrys but not yet BB10. These are suggestions (I don't know the answers yet):
Can you tell what database the crash is occurring on?
Can you use Link to selectively delete a database on the device?
Can you selectively backup databases, or is it all or nothing?
Maybe you already know where I'm going. I'm wondering if a database is corrupt, and if you can delete that database and then complete a backup (without the corrupt database). The alternative is to selective backup individual databases, except for the database that causes a crash.
Last note, search on the error message. Also, if you can create a log, take a look at that for clues.

Loaded Mountain Lion and time capsule no longer works, airport utility can't be configured, back ups have stopped, sparse bundle in use errors occur, what a mess!!!!

Should Airport Utility now be defunct for my time capsule because I have upgraded OS to Mountain Lion? I have tried every fix I can think of but AU will not set up. I'm also getting repeated time machine back up failures and now I have a new "sparsebundleinuse" error which is totally useless to me, I have no idea what a sparse bundle is, I have no idea what it's suddenly being used by and there's no information to say what to do about it. Apple is killing me here!!!

I've tried to but on the install for Airport Utility 6, after the download I get through the introduction then the license then I get "airport utility can't be installed on this disk. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported" and that's it, no more options!?

Time machine back up failed on my external drive & more problems

I'd be grateful for any help.
I have a G-TECH 1TB external drive (7 months old) and decided to use that with Time machine to back up my files. I hadn't used the drive for about 4 months but it had worked fine the last time I used it. I connected it to Time Machine and a back up failure message of some kind appeared. Since then the drive is unusable... I'm lucky if I can get the drive to mount ("the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer)" yet I can't reformat it - disk utility can't erase or partition it. It throws up a variety of error messages (can't unmount drive & resource busy are a couple) which usually ends with the spinning ball of death. Tonight I spent my hard earned money on Disk Warrior, which appeared to check and rebuild file systems and the drive mount now mounts but I still can't reformat it or use it in any way. Have now spend hours trying to mount and reformat it and it's driving me mad...

Sure, a few drives from any production run will be D.O.A, and a few others will fail very quickly, as with nearly any manufactured product.
But you don't know yet whether the drive is bad. If you didn't let DW replace the directory, run it again and do so.
If it's still troublesome, try the other things in my last post before deciding it's the drive.

Time capsule stops backing up

i have a macbook pro 2010 15 inch and a fourth gen time capsule.
was able to do a complete backup in snow leaopard. have not been able to do a backup in lion. is there a way to just start over?

Have you found a solution? I'm having a similar problem, in the initial back up it gets to 27 or so GB and then it says back up failure but no other information on how to fix it. I'm hoping that you have found a solution that can help me. Anything, suggestion, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to write a JTable cell validation. Input data in a cell, if failure, prompt message and set focus & editing back to the cell. I've tried InputVerifier() but it doesn't work since I can easily use the mouse click to shift to other cells in the same table.
What I am trying to do now is to define my DefaultCellEditor. I record the row & index position when getting focus. In the lost focus event, do the validation and set the focus & editing back if failure. Seems it works fine. However, when I randomly click different cells in the table quickly. It prompts:

Your use in a JTable isn't too clear to me, but I feel you're overthinking the basic requirement:

Exactly the same problems as many others with iTunes 10.5 and my Windows 7 32 bit laptop: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT .type="win32", … HRESULT:0x800736FD. I followed the Apple instructions to completely uninstall earlier iTunes and all Apple applications and then tried to re-install iTunes 10.5. Numerous attempts. Still no success. Constantly goes through the install and then rolls back after failure.
By unzipping using WinRAR and installing each module separately it seems that the module that fails is the AppleApplicationSupport.msi
Finally I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled iTunes 10.4.1. This installed perfectly. So at least I still have iTunes.
I was able to install iTunes 10.5 on myWindows XP SP3 desktop.
I noticed with WinRAR that the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file with 10.5 is a completely different size to that with 10.4.1. This suggests to me a conflict between the latest AppleApplicationSupport.msi and Windows 7.
