Back up & format

My Quicksilver G4 (with 10.3.9) lost ethernet during a recent lightning storm. It has to go in for a check to see if it is worth the expense of repair, but I do not want to send it for inspection with my families personal info on it and I am therefore looking at my options.
I have Intego's Personal Backup (10.3.9.4) which I use to clone to an external firewire drive (with two partitions) for backup purposes.
I am thinking of:
1/ Cloning the entire hard drive to one of the partitions on the external drive.
2/ Cloning just the OSX System folder (is that enough?) to the other partition.
3/ Formatting the G4 Hard Drive.
4/ Restoring just the the OSX System folder back to the G4 for purposes of inspection.
5/ In the event that I get the computer back in full working order, my intention would be to restore the cloned copy of the entire hard drive (step 1) back to the G4.
I have a G4 laptop on which I can check that the cloned copies are bootable!
Does the above sound logical?
Would steps 2 & 4 work and if so could anything "personal" (passwords etc) be buried in this folder.
Luckily I have never had to actually do the restore part of the back up procedure!!! How do I restore the cloned copy of the system folder to the formatted Hard Drive?
Any info would be much appreciated.

As possibly an easier alternative, have you thought about buying a cheap hard drive (Outpost currently has an 80GB for only $20 after rebate), popping that into your computer putting your current one safely in storage for the moment, then installing your OS on the new drive? This way ONLY the operating system in on the drive and NONE of your personal info. If the computer gets repaired, you can swap the drives back and put the new one in an enclosure. If the computer is not repairable and you decide to get a new one, then both drives can go into external cases. Or you can sell off the newer one after this short use.

Can I get music back after formating cpu?

If the music was RIP'd from CD, then the fastest way is to restore from your backup.
Since it sounds like you did not have a backup, you will need to reRIP them from your CDs. Nothing else you can do.
iTunes purchases you can redownload. Open iTunes, go to the store, click on Purchases on the right side under Quick links.
Then tell the tech who formatted it for you without making a backup or making sure teat YOU made a backup that his rear end has a vacancy sign and your foot is looking for a place to rent.
and you should make a backup right now of your computer and update teh backup after you RIP all the CDs.
And make it a regualr practice, like weekly, depending on how much you want to lose.

  • How to responce back HTML format to MVC using asembler API

    Hi,
Now we are trying to build integration between MVC Web Application on Seesar2 framework(http://www.seasar.org/en/) and endeca commerce 3.1.1.
In order to responce back the HTML page from endeca based on the query executed by MVC side, assembler API should return the format of HTML, however, it seems that Assembler API actually returns the contentItem data with which cartridge should be used, so assembler API responce as is cannot be used as HTML page output.
Is there any way to generate the HTML page format using assembler API ?
Also I've found following forum saying that Assembler API can be called by Spring MVC, but is it also applicable for other framework than spring ?
    https://qa.endecacommunity.com/questions/149/creating-endeca-dispatcher-using-spring-mvc-instead-of-assemblerjsp-in-endeca-310
Re: How to use Spring MVC instead of assembler.jsp in endeca 3.1.0
    Thanks,
    Yuki

Instead of writing HTML directly why not write an XML representation of your data and then use XSLT to create an HTML view and a PDF view. PDF can be generated from XML using FOP (http://xml.apache.org/fop/index.html).

  • How do I put the songs back after format?

I had to format my hard drive. I backed all the music up to CD's. Now I want to put them back. I see in the My Music folder there is an Itunes folder and when I open that there is a Itunes Music folder and Library folder. I'm not sure what folder to copy the songs to so I can have them back in my Library on Itunes. My CD has a lot of yellow folders and inside each folder is either one or two songs. Please help. Thank you

I backed up the music from the Hard Drive. The songs are in yellow folders with the artist name as the folder name on the CD. Then if I double click on the yellow folder I see the file (song). I would like to put the folders back (but I forgot where they were in My Music) and then import them back into ITunes. Actually I did move them back to a folder inside of the ITunes folder in My Music to a folder called ITunes Music. When I try to click File, Import Folder nothing happens.

  • Have airport extreme, square model, have a external harddrive to use as back up(formated for mac)hooked it up to the usb port in back. can't find it on my computer. what am i doing wrong

have the airport extreme, square model. have a external harddrive formated for mac hooked up to the usb port in back.
i can't find the harddrive on the computer for back up in timemachine. what am i doing wrong?

First, if you are not aware, you need to know that Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme.
That may be part of the problem here, so if you want to continue to try this, you need to understand that there are no guarantees of success.
Some users do seem to be able to make this work, but most have some problems and some....like me....have nothing but problems when they try this.
If you want to continue to try this, the first thing to verify is that the drive is formatted specifically in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Have you verified that the drive is formatted correctly by connecting it directly to your Mac and using Disk Utility to check?
Some drives that are advertised as being "compatible for Mac" are not formatted correctly in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Time Machine has no chance of success unless the drive is first formatted correctly.
I would also ask that you consider leaving the drive connected to your Mac for Time Machine backups. That will be supported, and is a far more reliable way to keep backups if your data is important to you.
Next, we need to know what operating system you are running on your Mac. If you do not know, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About This Mac.  Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • Getting music back after formatting computer

I am a music teacher and use iTunes for all my recorded music. Over the summer, my school upgraded our computers to WIndows 7. Is there a way to get my music back? I spent a ton of money on all of it and would hate for it to all be gone... I have it on my iPod but can't figure out how to get it back on my computer. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks so much!

Use your backup copy. This is one of the reasons that always maintaining a backup is basic.
If you have failed to do so, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:
    File>Transfer Purchases

  • Organizing Playlist, Will It Revert Back After Formating?

I am in the process of organizing my playlist so that all the songs have a title, artist, etc. As you know when you upload the songs some are already ready others have all the info in title or whatever.
My question is if I spend the hours to organize all my songs, will it all go to waste when I reformat my computer 6 months to a year from now? Is there any way to save the updated and organized list?
    Thanks

No. It will stay at 6.1.3.

  • Back up in .bbb format

I have taken back-up in DM V.7.0.0 but its saving back-up in .bbb format, will i be able to restore on BB curve 9380 or do i require .ipd format which i am not getting

See..As far as your back file format concern, it will work on any blackberry. Is the back file of same 9380 or of any other handheld, if back file is of any other handheld, then you may take backup of 9380 as well before performing a security wipe.
And regarding the problem of Sub-Option, please elaborate the issue, so we may identify & resolve that accordingly.

  • Should I Give it Up and Go Back To Tiger?

That's the decision I'm wrestling with right now. My issues are not legion. Mostly they revolve around three things: Stability, Usability and Speed.
    STABILITY:
I get odd freezes and random program crashes that have now twice resulted in having to push the power button to reboot. The mouse moves, but nothing works, no menus, can't even bring up the Force Quit window to quit an offending app.
In one day Mail crashed over-and-over until I could no longer use the computer and shut down and pulled out my PowerBook to send an email! After rebooting and fsck'ing and repairing Permissions the problem seemed to go away, but I have way too many crashes of even Apple programs that ought to be playing nicer with Leopard.
I also get a LOT more bouncing beachballs with Leopard in almost every app than with Tiger. Although my main Mac is not Intel or even G5, I should still be well within the system requirements for Leopard with a dual 1.25GHz G4 with 1.75 GB of RAM. My system drive has over 100GB open (I have four internal drives equaling 1.3TB) and I keep all of my software updated.
I do have one 2nd party PCI USB 2.0 card that doesn't require drivers and it works, but I haven't tested Leopard without that card, but I do have USB 2.0 devices that I need to run, so that alone would require a step backward if I couldn't run the USB 2.0 card because of some odd compatibility issue.
    USABILITY:
Two things just irritate the heck out of me and one is a minor irritant that I probably just need to learn more about
One is the lack of hierarchical menus in the dock. Unlike a lot of people I like Stacks, but I'd like to have the option to go seamlessly from a Stack to a hierarchical menu.
The other is the inability to put a custom icon on a dock drive or folder. I have to create a dummy folder, put a blank space at the front of the name and use it as the icon for the item, but even then, all those icons behind it clutter up the look of the folder/drive and thus, the dock as a whole. There should be an option for having a SINGLE clean icon without going through odd gymnastic to get one!
I have a very small issue with the behavior of Spotlight. In Tiger, a Spotlight search's results were displayed in a more quick and orderly way, at least that how it seems to me. In Leopard when you click "show all" although it categorizes them as I have it set up in Spotlight's preferences, there isn't a clear delineation between classifications and there is no "info" button to quickly see the path and general info for the file. To see info you have to right click and choose "Show Info" unless I am missing something.
However, the addition of Boolean logic categories by option-clicking the plus sign or clicking to add categories to the search rules negates a lot of my gripe about Spotlight. I'd like to see it be as responsive as Tiger, but it's hard to argue with the ability to drill-down to exactly what you're looking for.
But, Spotlight is also MUCH slower than Tiger's Spotlight which leads me to:
    SPEED:
As mentioned, I have one of the fastest G4s and a dual processor to boot and I'm nearly maxed on RAM, so you'd think Leopard would run faster, but there is a general lag in usability across the board. Not a killer lag, but noticeable and the aforementioned beachballs pop up enough to add even MORE of an irritating lag to the process. I find myself hitting "Force Quit" a LOT more often and seeing "'program x has stopped responding" in the Force Quit menu.
I like Leopard. There are some nice features that truly do improve the overall utility of the OS, so I think it's a good release, but there are just too many issues for me now, maybe because of my G4 PowerMac, it seems to have fewer issues (except for the speed thing) on my FW 800 Powerbook, but for now I want fast and logical and Tiger is all that.
I will return to Leopard if I step back because it's just too good an update to ignore and it is after all, the future of Macs, but right now Leopard is killing my productivity. On more than one occasion I've lost data before saving when a crash happened and that was a VERY rare occurrence with Tiger.

    Thanks for the responses!
I always do a clean install, backing up, formatting the drive, etc. I find it reduces the number of issues overall.
I was going to do a dual-boot setup with Tiger originally, but I've had such good luck with OS X updates that I wasn't concerned. But since I've had these problems, I hadn't revisited that option so, since I eventually will return to Leopard that may be a good solution.
However, I just read elsewhere after writing this as one of you mentioned, that the 10.5.2 update is slated to be a big release with a lot of fixes, so that may be worth the wait before doing anything precipitous.
There is one very odd thing, though . . . I have an iPhone and while I could sync without a problem initially, recently I've had some issues syncing until now I can't sync at all. I took the iPhone in and they swapped it out for a new phone, but I came home and had the same issues, so before returning to the Apple store I tried it on my PowerBook (running Leopard) and sure enough, it synced with no issues!
So I'm wondering if there isn't some problem that may be hardware-related that is causing me to have more issues on the PowerMac side than on the PowerBook side? I think I need to strip the PowerMac down to its original components, basically unplug everything but the keyboard and mouse, remove that USB card and see what happens.
It ran fine under Tiger so I'm not happy about having to do this, but hey, it's the price of progress and at least it's not that "other" OS!
BTW, I think it's funny how some tech writers are trying, straining to compare the issues that some of us are having with Leopard with the Vista release which was an unmitigated disaster!
I'm content to work through it until I find the same stability I had under Tiger with this new cat . . . let's hope the new update does the trick. Anyone heard a release date for 10.5.2?
    Thanks for the suggestions!

  • TS4605 I restored my iphone with a back up on my itunes and deleted all my information on the phone...

Well, actually, it's a little more complicated than that.
It all started because out of the blue, all my contacts became unidentifiable(just numbers without any names/labels.) So I looked online for some feedback and most sites said that I should restore settings with back ups from either Itunes or icloud...so I did. I tried to restore it through my itunes because it was the most up to date with my phone, my icloud hasn't been backed up since almost a year ago! Anyways, restored the thing and it went to it's beginning feature greeting me with a "Hello" in many different languages(with a white background and simple black font.) It then asked me to choose a language, then a country/region, wifi, and then set up iphone option-which included-"set up as new iphone, restore from icloud backup, and restore from itunes backup"...I chose itunes backup, which didn't go through...or something because it kept looping from it's "connected to itunes" screen and "connect to itunes"...and restore anything(at least from what i'm seeing.) Anyways, so I idiotically decided to restore from icloud backup just to test if it would work, and it did...erasing all my current data/information and restoring something from January 2014!!! I've been trying to re-restore it back to not having contacts but having my current information on my phone because I could just manually type in all my contacts, that would be better than losing all my current information. Please help me figure out the most effective way to restore/backup my phone back to its normal state!
    info:
iphone4s-software up to date since yesterday Aug 28, 2014 (and has a back up on itunes from this date as well, which I;ve been trying for a back up format)
    Thank you,
    Payten

update:I tried using the itunes back up through a software called "iBackup" and it seemed promising...but now it's stuck on the turning on screen(black background with a white apple icon in the middle.) It won't go past this screen!!! Ahhhh please help me!

    Hi Karthik
As far as I know, drilldown reports work in this way..
Detail List show you the way you designed the form
Drilldown list always show VF in Columns and Chars in Row.. The Options to drill down always appear on left side
If you have BW system, there you have the possibility of achieving what you want

  • Change of date format to MM/DD/YYYY in ITS web HTML screen.

    Hi all
I am facing problem in displaying date field on the HTML for the data coming from SAP back end.
Earlier my screen was also showing the date in the format MM/DD/YYYY but suddenly it started showing date in the format DD.MM.YYYY. I have not changed any code on the front end HTML side.
At sap back end the FM is returning the date in the format MM/DD/YYYY and same data i have to display on the HTML screen.
But it is not showing the data as in the back end format.
Please help me in resolving this issue. as it is bit Urgent.
    Thanks
    Ekta

    Hi Tobias,
Thanks for the reply. I will see to your suggestion. Because the Custom login Id created for login to the service, needs to be checked whether the date format for that user may not be of the type DD/MM/YYYY.
Thanks a lot. I will let you know about it after checking.
    Thanks & Regards

  • How to test 1099 file format ( IRS )

    Hi all,
    We are on ECC6.00 .
We need to submit 1099 file t IRS department. How to confirm if the file generated by SAP is in correct format as specified by IRS.  Its become problematic after you send the file to IRS and they come back with formatting issue .
Is there any software available ?
    Best Regards

    hari
You can send the test file using the same IRS portal that you use for submitting the real file. You will then receive an email from IRS telling you the exact formatting error or if the file has passed. IRS will allow the test files only during specific period in a year (normally Nov-Jan).
    Thanks

  • After loading the latest firefox version I lost all the formatting from Yahoo, everything is text unformatted how do I restore my format?

My screen is just all text and I cannot navigate to my familiar selection places. I don't know how to get back my format for Yahoo

That is caused by code for HiDPI that landed.
You can modify the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and increase or decrease the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps to adjust the size of fonts and other elements in Firefox.
    * The layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely (resolution 0.1 or 0.05).
    * You can use values between 0.05 and 1.0 to reduce elements in size or use values greater than 1.0 to magnify and make elements larger (percentage divided by DPI, % / DPI).
If the web pages needs to be adjusted after changing this pref then you can look at Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint.
    * Default FullZoom Level - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/6965
    * NoSquint - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2592
