In iTunes, is there a way to find previous back-ups that are older than my current back-up or sync? I am looking for lost appt. info.

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to 'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)

You should really read the manual.

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Recover software as you have described is pretty much your only option - keep in mind that if wait, some of the currently recoverable data may well be over-written and lost.

Apple TV Purchases Backed Up In Itunes But Will Not Show In Home Sharing On Ipad

This problem is bizzare.
Basically I have had Apple TV for a while but really only made some purchases from the interface on the TV the other day. (Besides Rentals)
Normally I buy the movie directly on my macbook and download it. Then go watch it on my Apple TV.
This time I bought on Apple TV then went to Itunes and downloaded it off the cloud. Any movie I have purchased from the Apple TV will not show up on Home Sharing (Sharing from my Macbook to my Ipad2) Even though it was purchased with the same apple id and the movies are physically downloaded to itunes on the macbook.
If I pull up Sidebar in Itunes 11 and click itunes store and then purchases my movies show up. (That's how I downloaded them to itunes) Although, if I click "purchased" from the Sidebar (Under Itunes Store) the movies purchased from the Apple TV do not show up. It's almost like Apple Tv let me back them up but did not associate them with the itunes account.

I agree with what you're saying. I just bought Skyfall through my Apple TV because it would allow me to download 1080p (my PC wouldn't) and I specifically recall it saying that this media would be sharable...yet when I'm on my iPad Mini it doesn't show up in Videos > Shared along with all my other non-Apple purchases. This doesn't seem right.
I tried copying the m4v file to my desktop, renaming it and tried to then import it back into my iTunes library but it didn't do any action. It must recognize the DRM protection.

Did a search on backing up my iTunes, and only get the option of backing up to a disc (Which is what I've done over the past 3 years. I now have 6 discs accumulated).
Can I use a flash drive to back up my apps, music, and videos?
I only have a total of 1.6 GB of apps, music, & video.
If so, would I then be able to transfer everything from the flash to a new hard drive when I replace the current one?

The backup built into iTunes works only with CDs and DVDs, but you can back up onto a flash drive or hard drive manually. Just drag the entire iTunes folder (normally in your user's Music folder) onto the backup device.

Yes. If you back up the entire iTunes folder, you should be able to just copy it back to the new drive in the same location (user -> Music folder).

That's what backups are for. Use Time Machine. It's free and external drives are cheap. To recover your iPhone's content requires the use of third party utilities. Success is not guaranteed. Read:

I have a desktop PC which I want to reformat and reinstall Windows XP because I think I have a virus on it, I have also had the PC for 5 years and never done this opperation but I feel I should now.
I have also backed up my iPhone4 on the same PC (the one Itunes library its backed up on)
1. How do I back up my itunes onto an externall hard drive
2. How do I make sure that my iPhone will re-sync with Itunes once I reinstall Itunes on the PC after the format (ie I dont want to see that message that iPhone can only sync with one iTunes library)
3. Before I format the PC do I have to de-authorise my PC?
4. Once I reinstall windows XP and iTunes how do I make sure the my iPhone will recognise the itunes library so everything will sync again (ie. music, all, movies purchased items etc
5. Basically I want to reformat my PC and when I reconnect my iPhon/e it will be the same as before.

Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer as you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new/rebuilt computer using the same tool used to back it up, ideally before installing iTunes.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

The easiest way is to just copy your entire iTunes folder (in My Music in your user's folder) to some other place. Then you can just copy it back to the same location when your drive is replaced and Windows reinstalled and set up.
