  • Back up iPhone 4 to new iMac without deleting iMac's current data

I have an iPhone 4 which was originally synced to another mac.
And I have a new iMac I've been using with iTunes, adding new photos, music, etc.
So, my files on iPhone and iMac are different.
I've never synced these two before.
Is there a way to "consolidate" everything to the iMac?
I would like to know how I can back up my iPhone 4 to the iMac (with exisiting data on iTunes) because when I connect it to computer, it prompts the "delete and sync" option.... which I don't want to do.
Also, I'm especially interested in backing up Notes and Messages. And ultimately, upgrade to iOS5 (and restore the notes, etc. back to iPhone).
    Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I understand I syncs only with one iTunes library.
So how can import all my iPhone's info (messages, photos, notes) to my computer and add them to iTunes? I want to back up everything before updating to iOS5.

  • Need to copy contents of my iphone to a new Windows 7 computer

    Hi,
My iphone 4 is currently syced to a macbook pro. But now, I need to sync my iphone to a new network drive accessible thru my Windows 7 laptop.
Can some body point me to a set of steps that I need to do.
I have apps, some with its own data, voice memos and some songs on my iphone.
I have looked at some applications such as igadget, touchcopy. They copy music and voice memos but they none of them can copy the apps + data.
    thanks

You should make a copy of your profile folder on your XP machine. From here you can extract the most important files. More info:
[https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder to your USB flash drive.)

    Hope this helps.

  • Migrate iPhone (iTunes) to new Windows computer

I apologize for asking a question that seems likely to have been answered multiple times, but the answers I found either seemed to be missing pieces for my scenario or in some cases to contradict (very likely my misunderstanding).
I need to set up itunes on a new (Windows XP) computer for one of my users and set it to sync with their iphone, without losing any data, migrating all settings, all minimizing my need to know what they might or might not have done with their iPhone to date, and preferably without knowing their iTunes account information (though I can get that if I need it).
I do not need to be concerned about syncing contact and calendar information - these phones sync with Exchange/Outlook and I'll deal with that part later.
    1. I will of course first install itunes on the new computer (set it not to auto-sync) and then use itunes on the old computer to back up the phone.
    2. Next I think I should copy the itunes library to the new computer, just replacing the directory structure on the new computer with the copy from the old (same OS on both computers). (Or do I not need to do that if I have a backup?)
    3. Then assuming the user may have purchased content from the store I believe I will need to authorize this computer in the Store, is that correct? Will I need the user's account information to do that?
    4. Should I next copy my backup into the correct location for backups on this computer and restore from backup so that settings are restored? Or since I have this backup, do I need to do all the above steps or are some of them unnecessary? (If it may not always be necessary, but might sometimes be necessary depending what they've done, and assuming it can't hurt either way, then I should just do it - I'm not worried about doing extra steps, I'm worried about losing data.)
    5. And now do I need to do a sync? (I would have thought the restore from backup would have taken care of that, but I saw instruction somewhere to do that after restoring from backup.)
Do I have the right steps, in the right order, and will that take care of everything or have I missed something? (As noted, I will take care of setting up the exchange account syncing after everything else is done - that's something I've done many times.)

    Thanks!
Reporting back, I tried it and discovered that it really is as simple as copying the iTunes library to the new computer (at least in my case it was) - I did that, synced the phone on the new computer, and all was well. (I've heard so many horror stories that I really expected trouble, but had none at all.)

  • Cannot back up iPhone 4 to new iMac

I am about at my wits end. I just purchase a brand-spanking new iMac. Which works great. However, the iTunes will not back up my iPhone 4. Period. It asks me if I want to install the latest software (I currently have the 5.0 software; this is the update AFTER that one), and of course I say sure, but it starts to back up my iPhone to the COMPUTER, even though I have marked to have it back up to iCloud. I prefer it be on iCloud, as I had issues with it telling me prior to 5.0 that it was backed up on the computer, when it really was not (unable to locate it...reset iPhone, and lost everything-hence switched to iCloud until I can figure out why the computer is not wanting to back it up. I get the error message: "unable to back up iphone 4 (well the name of my phone) because it could not be saved on this computer". I have seen this addressed in other forums, but  none of those suggestions worked.
I went to the Genius Bar today, and the guy told me to delete iTunes, and reinstall from the website. Can't. I have Lion OS X on this iMac, and it gives me the message that "unable to delete iTunes because Lion is using it. ? WHAT? The "genius" guy hadn't even heard of this issue before, and did not know how to get the computer to back up the iphone to iCloud when trying to install the latest update to the iPhone.
Also of note-I have no garbage can next to any of my photos on my iphone, imported, taken with the phone, ,or otherwise. I am unable to delete any of them. Someone had mentioned manually deleting all of them to clear the error code so I will sync to the computer.
    ? Any thoughts?
I have an iPhone 4, have had it for a year and a half. Was syncing fine with my Macbook (which has since died).
I have Lion OSX, brand new
I have no firewalls or security ware active on the computer
Thoughts? I am this close  (holding thumb and index finger closely together.....) to switching to a DROID! Ridiculous how this easy process is turning into an abslute frustrating nightmare for me. Genius Bar is worthless here.
    Thanks in advance---

Nope. No can do. It did not ever back up to my new computer. We looked all over this thing for backups. There were none. Any other suggestions?

  • Thinking about selling Iphone 5 for new WIndows Phone

So I am a new Iphone 5 user. Went from a Motorola Droid to an Apple product. I must say I like the Iphone 5, but I like the new windows phone. I have even thought about selling my Iphone 5 to get the Windows phone. ANyone have any thoughts about the windows phones compared the the Iphone 5?

As a past user of an iPhone 4 and a Windows Phone 7.5 device, I would say that the user experiences are similar, with the exception of far fewer apps being available for Windows Phone.  However, there are several apps available and I could find a livable level of satisfaction with the app selection.  There are fewer accessories available for any Windows Phone device (or any other phone, for that matter) than for the iPhone.  One thing that I think that has changed for Windows Phone 8 is that users will no longer sync through Zune on the PC.  I'm not up-to-speed with this part, so if this is important to you, you might want to research this further.
The other thing that may impact your user experience would be how integrated into Apple's ecosystem you are.  Even though you said that you just got the iPhone 5, I don't know if you are an iPad or iPod user that relied on iTunes for content management.  Your other ecosystem concerns would include whether or not you use iCloud for media storage and whether or not your friends send you text messages in iMessage.  If none of these things are big deals for you, then a switch to a different mobile OS may be fine.
Your other differences are your hardware differences.  You didn't name a specific Windows Phone device, but I think that every Windows Phone that is coming out is larger than an iPhone 5.  Were you attracted to the thin and light profile of the iPhone 5, or did you think that the screen was too small?  The cameras on the iPhone 5 and the upcoming Windows Phone devices are said to rival each other, so that probably won't be a major consideration for you.
There are many other things to consider, but hopefully my questions will remind you of what you consider to be important, and you can go from there.  I always recommend hands-on time with a new device that you are considering, so go to stores to try out Windows Phone devices to get more of a feel for them.

  • White iPhone 4 or New Windows Phone 7

I been holding out on an iPhone 4 because I want the white one, so does my girlfriend, well my iPhone 3GS White is getting pretty old now and we are considering getting the new Windows Phone 7 at the beginning of November. Anyone have an idea or any clues from the net when the white iPhone 4 is coming out? Or should I just say screw it and get the Windows Phone 7? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, apparently I am. So nothing official from them yet? I'm just a bit torn, I've waited a few months already and now if I get the iphone now I will totally NOT be eligible for upgrade for iPhone 5 in June. I do prefer the white one though. I read some where about Walmart getting a shipment of white iPhones for sale. Maybe soon?

  • Can't restore backed up iTunes library on new Windows install

I just reinstalled Windows on my system drive. My previous iTunes library was located on another internal HDD. I installed iTunes on my new Windows install, and tried simply changing my library location to the old location in the preferences, which didn't work for restoring anything. Then I tried starting iTunes whole holding shift, and choosing the old library file, which did nothing. iTunes starts up, and has absolutely nothing in the library, even from the old library file. The library files have a modified date of yesterday, so they haven't been overwritten by starting iTunes and setting the library location to the old location. I also reassigned the drive letter for this drive so it was the same as my previous install so filepaths would be the same.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I'd really like to restore my library with all my playlists, playcounts, and ratings.

  • Is here a way to sync iPod/iPhone with the new Windows Live Mail?

    hi everyone,
since i bought my ipod touch 2nd i recorded down my itinery into the iPod,
and about syncing, although troubled by the 0xE800002E error when syncing apps,
i still enjoyed a brilliant mailing function and could sync with the Windows Mail which i was using for a while
but after changing to use the new Windows Live Mail, attracted by the easy calendar function built-in, i found that the iTunes cannot recognise Live Mail, and of course not to syncronise it
this is much a trouble to me right now, and i hope someone can read my poor english
Please give me some advice, really thanks
ps,i have outlook but i dont really tend to use it

You can sync Tasks to Reminders, but with the caveat that it is only possible via an Exchange server or iCloud.
Contacts, calendar events, and notes can be synced via USB/iTunes (in addition to iCloud or Exchange).

  • Syncing and backing up iPhone to a new computer?

I no longer have the computer that my iPhone was synced to and my iPhone was backed up to,  I now have another Mac.  how can I sync to this new computer and back up my iPhone/

Wish I could but the computer crashed and still trying to get the info.
This is why it has always been very basic to always miantain a backup copy of your computer.  Once it has crashed, it is too late.  The point of a backup is that you maintain it regularly.
If you have failed to do this, then you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You can import camera roll pics as you would from any digital camera.
You can e-mail other pics to yourself.
You can enter a unique contact and calendar entry on your computer.  You should get the option to merge when you first sync.

  • HT1766 I tried to upload the data on my iPhone to a new Windows 8 laptop using iTunes but it only copied the music and wiped my contacts and calendar.

Any help gratefully received.  Would it have saved the data on the hard drive on my PC?  I can see a file called data.syncdb on the C drive but have no idea what's in it or how to use it.

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • How to transfer burned CD's from iPhone 5 to new Windows 8 laptop

I have the latest iTunes update.  When syncing phone, only the purchased songs will transfer.  How do I get songs that were burned from CD's to transfer off iPhone and on to laptop iTunes account?

You don't.  The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer.

  • I would like to ask you how to fix this problem with firefox 4 final version: I open one firefox browser window and i leave it then i open another new window of firefox and it opens not homepage but the last closed tab. Thank you in advance

could you please help me with this because it makes me to choose other browser

Many thanks for your reply, Waka – guess you're right that it's a new add on or bust... I still find it odd that such a common UI feature across mobile browsers is unavailable in FF24 either as an option under settings or as an add-on. Surely, I'm not the only person who finds this puzzling?

  • When I have minimized additional windows and open another new window, the previously minimized windows show up underneath the new one, and I have to minimize them all again. This is quite annoying, how do you make it stop?

This has only been happening since upgrading to Firefox 4.0.

This issue can be caused by the ASK.com Toolbar.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
