Back-up mail boxes?

How can I back-up my mail boxes...and then if there is a mail failure, reinstall them?

Best method is using Apple's Backup application.
Another method is to copy the files manually to removable media, or another alternate location.
The files you need all reside here: /Users/YourUserNameHere/Mail/
Just copy that folder and save it. If something goes wrong with your mail, you should need only copy that folder back to it's original location.
I once had a problem with my mail not being present, Mail app would not load up right. I restored my backup of the Mail folder, and restarted Mail. All was fine.
I seriously recommend using Backup. It is a very simple app and will save your butt!

  • How can I back up mail boxes to an external drive (not using Time Machine)?

I recently lost all of my mailboxes when switching from Mavericks back to Mountain Lion; I still have all of my emails, just without the mailboxes I'd created over the past 6 years to organize these emails.  The files that control organization information for Mail, iPhoto, and iTunes must not be obvious.  The 2 Apple "Geniuses" who wiped my computer after assuring me I'd backed up everything I needed clearly didn't think of mailboxes (Mail), events and albums (iPhoto), and playlists and ratings (iTunes) -- lost all of those.  Would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me where to find the organizational files for Mail that contain the "smart" and regular mailboxes.  Thank you!

Are you referring to mailboxes as in different email domain providers (AOL, Yahoo, GMail, etc???)
Or are you referring to mailboxes as in archived folders with various messages in each?
If the latter, have you considered moving it all to iCloud and not storing anything locally?
I have my folders/boxes in iCloud and dont' botehr with storing anything locally anymore. Too much pain to worry about saving the mailboxes on a USB stick any time you reinstall your OS X.
Moreover ,the new versions always needed to be updated after you imported them back into Mail app.
    Just a thought....
Unless you have more than 5GB of mail stored, I woudl consider moving it to iCloud once and for all.

I can not access my Yahoo account.  When I log in and go to mail box I get bounced back to "Verify Password".  Need held.

A number of posters are reporting this problem. It could be a problem with the Yahoo server. If deleting and setting up thevaccount again is not the solution then give it a few hours.

  • I have an iPhone 4S running iTunes 11.1.5(5) and my iPhone no longer syncs Notes to my Mail box. I'm wondering if that's because I recently upgraded to iOS 7.0.6

I recently upgraded to iOS 7.0.6 on my iPhone 4S, and iTunes 11.1.5(5). Ever since I upgraded, my iPhone notes no longer sync to my Mail box. Can I restore syncing???

If you upgrade your iPhone, your only choice will be to upgrade to the current version (iOS 8.1.2 at the moment).  So your choices are:
    Upgrade to current iOS.
Stay at the iOS version you have currently.
Purchase a new, more capable iPhone (and possibly sell your current one).
One additional comment:  If you upgrade, you can never go back.

  • Having been without my Mac for a month I've been using iCloud mail. The new mail boxes that I set up there do not automatically show up in Mail on my replacement Mac. Is there any way to transfer them from ICloud mail to Mail?

sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
    then import pics to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

  • How to get back lost mail and Shutdown problems?

    Dear Apple Users and Support,
I recently did an idiotic thing and managed to turn one of my mail boxes where I collected mail from 2-3 of my friends totally into junk. I remember highlighting all the message and was attempting to move them to a new mailbox/folder but then accidentally hit JUNK. Nothing happened so I assumed that I was alright. But when I opened my MAIL app yesterday I noticed all those messages were gone. I'm assuming they were marked as JUNK and due to my settings erased them when I quit the program.
So my question is, how can I get those letters back? I had time machine back up about a week ago. Which would mean I would only lose like 5-6 messages total in the end. Is there a way I can use TIME MACHINE to get a specific inbox back in my MAIL?
Also, my other option I think is because I pull my mail from the Gmail server and I leave the mail in Gmail, I might be able to pull all the messages that are still sitting on Gmail with the addresses that I need. Is there a way I can tell my MAIL to get all the messages from certain addresses off the server again from Gmail? I assuming there's a parameter that shuts down after retrieving the mail the first time, because otherwise it would constantly pull the same messages off the gmail server.
Finally, for the past year, my MAIL app has been acting up, and I can never "Quit" out of it as normal. I usually have to Force Quit out of Mail to shut it down. Like 90% of the time it wont' shut down without me Force Quitting it. Any suggestions to stop this problem?
Thank you for any assistance, those e-mails mean alot to me!
    Thanks!
    Tomes

In your case, immediately stop using this phone memory card in case of further data loss and then, try to use take chances with some data recovery programs.
I have ever had some data recovery success with the guidance of this video tutorial.
Of course, also learn a lesson to make data backups all the time.
I hope these words work for you.

  • I want to send notifications to outside(i,e mail box) from oracle, and users will approve the notification from email

    Hi
I have a client required to send notifications to outside email box, and also user will approve this notification through email.(i,e not logged into oracle and approve it) in 11i instance.
i need to send mail from po department to finance department
once finance department approves , then mail back to po department that your notificaiton approved.
    from address:=[email protected]
    to address:=[email protected]
as part of this we did IMAP set up
and used the following code. and getting the notifications from Oracle to my mail box.
my main issue is when user approves the wf notifications, it is not showing my specified email address in the attribute #WFM_REPLYTO, always it is showing the IMAP set up wfdev address
what is the value i need to use for this #WFM_REPLYTO
eventhough i am sending the to_address email id to the following attribute(wf_engine.setitemattrtext), the workflow approval not working for that email id.
only if i am using the '[email protected]' in the imap set up, then only approval is working.
how can i override this to_email address value([email protected]) to my desired email address?
    wf_engine.setitemattrtext (itemtype => l_item_type,
    itemkey => l_item_key,
    aname => '#WFM_REPLYTO', -- to_ address
avalue => '[email protected]' -- [email protected]
if any body having some sample code related to this please share on this.

  • Mail messages are marked "junk" in the outgoing mail box

For some time all my outgoing email messages have been marked as "junk" in the sent mail box. Today found that if I do not mark my personal information in my address book as "Me" my sent messages are no longer marked "junk". Does anyone know how I can fix the problem so my personal information can be marked "Me"?
iMac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
iMac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The following procedure thoroughly gets rid of all the files used by the junk filter, so that Mail creates them anew, and should fix the problem in the cases where the simple procedure provided in my first post doesn’t:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
    4. Locate any MessageRules.plist (Mail 2.x) and/or MessageSorting.plist (Mail 1.x) files and move them to the Desktop. This is where Mail stores all the rules, including the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    5. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
    6. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox folder within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
    7. Go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox mailboxes there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Steps 5, 6 and 7 may be unnecessary. Also, messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 6 and 7. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there that you want to preserve, either try skipping those steps, or move the messages to another mailbox in Mail first, or move Junk.mbox to the Desktop (to be imported back later) instead of to the Trash. Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix aren’t a concern because they are stored on the server and Mail would rebuild them automatically.
    8. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    9. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    10. Go online again if you went offline in step 8.
If the above solves the problem and you don’t have any rules you’d like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, just trash the rules files that were moved to the Desktop and be done with it.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • How could I re-open my mail box with error message :The last time you opened Mail, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?

How could I re-open my mail box, as an error message blocked "The last time you opened Mail, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" Even I entered re-open, the airbook does not response but prompt the same error message again.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • On mail box , always appear 7messages not read

I cannot have  a mail box empty , always even if all the messages treated , appear 7 and in the garbage even empty always 9 appear.

    Hi Chandice
Have you tried to remove the email account and adding it back on again?

  • What exactly is a smart mail box?

I have searched around and cannot quite workout what the difference between a normal mail and a smart mail box is....just seems like a glorified way of implementing rules?

Annoyingly, in Lion, Smart Mailboxes have a very grim bug, rendering them only partially usable.
I have a SmartBox for 'Unread" mails.
This is usually selected as this is where I want to see mail that has got past all my rules and remains Unread.
Sadly, the Lion smartmailboxes don't update while theyre selected, even though their badge updates with the number of messages in there.
So, to actually see the unread messages I have to click to another mailbox completely and click back* to the Unread smartBox. Only then do I actually get to see the messages in there.
    totally *****.

  • Re-importing backed up mail account incoming mail

How do I re-import just one of several mail box'es incoming mail that was previously backed up to an external hard drive and accidentally erased in Mac Pro purchased in 2011 and using snow leopard 10.6.8? Thank you.

As JHarris1993 said, this is BOSS! Thank you.
I used this solution to recreate a profile I was using under one Windows 7 account in another account on the same machine. The profile was successfully recreated but I noticed that the email accounts in the profile were still pointing to the data files from
the other account, which is not surprising at all.
Unfortunately no easy way exists for re-pointing email accounts to alternate file locations. I have five different email accounts in this profile (2 IMAP, 2 Outlook Hotmail Connector and one Exchange), and looks like there are solutions and workaround for
each type of account which work with varying degrees of success.
Changing location of pst data file for
    IMAP email account
    Changing
location of ost data file for an Exchange email account
Changing location of ost data file for a Hotmail Connector email account
    Thanks Again,

  • Back Up Mail Server

    Hi,

Is it possible to set up a back up mail server to
receive mail when the primary mail server is down and
then once the main server is up then deliver the mail
    to the user.
This is a great thing to outsource to a third party: often your domain name registrar will offer free backup mx, or you can use a free service like DynDNS to do it.
    http://www.dyndns.com/services/mailhop/backupmx.html
If you want to do it yourself on a Mac OS X server box, there's no check box in server admin - you need to get your hands dirty with the Postfix config file. Have a look at the postfix.org page for this:
