Back Up Migration

I have a 2006 Core 2 Duo imac with a screen that is going bad.  I bought a 2007 used mac mini core 2 duo.  I have the 2006 imac backed up on time machine and want to plug the time machine back up drive into the mac mini and just have it down load everything to the mac mini.  Does anyone have any idea how to do this and will this wipe the hard drive clean as it installs from the backup?
I bought the mac mini and the person who owned put a fresh SL install on the drive.  On the mac mini I would like to preserve the MS Office upgrade that was installed as it is a newer version than what I am using or can I install both?  No great loss if I lose the newer version of MS office, but would like to keep it.  Lastly, I use SL because I own a lot of software that I do not want to upgrade due to cost.
Thanks.
Mark

I would get a program such as SuperDuper ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22126 ) to CLONE your hard drive onto the external (as an image, if you don't have a free partition) and then when your new HD comes back, clone it back.
SuperDuper is well worth the $20 shareware fee.

            Error in Source System
I check the source system, it is working fine. I check the DataSource Extraction Tab DB user and Source System connection user name both are same. Serve Support Pack Level is 8 ( Client don't want to appy support pack to 15). Please help me to solve this.

    1. You may need to reactivate your DS, o other objects associated with this data flow...
    2. Is i snot possible to do UNDO of migration of objects like cubes or DSOs. The reason is that those objects are the same in BW 3.x and 7.x. Only datasources are being migrated (also you can to undo of migration) and data flows (update rules are replaced by transformations)

  • Can I get data back that Migration Assistant wiped out?

I am using a borrowed iMac since my PowerBook crashed. To gain access to my PB data, I unwittingly used Migration Assistant to migrate its contents to the borrowed iMac. Before I did this I upgraded the iMac to Snow Leopard--so it did not have Time Machine before and its data was not backed up. I realize now this was really not smart on my part.
Unfortunately, Migration Assistant seems to have wiped away the pre-existing data on the iMac. What I had wanted was to keep that data, but to add my PB data.
Here are my two key questions:
    1) Is there anything I can now do to restore the previous unbacked-up iMac data?
    2) To make matters even worse, I have two more hard drives with earlier backed up data from my PowerBook using BackUp from .Mac. How can I move that data into Snow Leopard?
I now realize I went at this all wrong; lesson learned. But if you can help me I will be forever grateful. Thanks.

When you ran Migration Assistant, did you have it copy its data into the existing account on the iMac or create a new account? If you had it create a new account, the old data should still be there in the old account.

  • More spam since rolling back ironport migration

    Hello,
We are currently migrating 60 or email domains to our ironport appliances.
We initially had migrated 55 or so of the lesser used domains when we became aware of a network configuration issue that caused us to move the domains back to our existing antispam solution.
Since moving the domains back, we have noticed a significant increase in the amount of spam being delivered to those domains that were migrated to the ironports for a week or so - to the point that we are receiving complaints from users about it.
Obviously we want to implement the ironports but has anyone else experienced this? Its as if the ironports are spam magnets! ;-)
    Cheers,
    Chris

At our Org we had users receiving low levels of SPAM. We moved behind an Ironport C350. We stayed that way for 1 week.
Due to an error with our Infrastructure (not the Ironport device) we had to move off the Ironport back to the original mail flow device.
Those same users then received 100+ SPAM messages per day for the next week while we sort out the issue and then moved them back onto the Ironport.
The question is "Why did we see such an increase in SPAM by moving to (and then off) the Ironport?". Is it related at all? Suspect ...
We also see moderate connection numbers to the existing email infrastructure. The Ironport however (according to its own stats) receives 170,000+ connection attempts per day!
The big stats on the Ironport look amazing, but when you start to think "I don't think we ever saw those sort of levels before" you wonder. Are the numbers real? Is it attracting more connections? Is it advertised somewhere?
    Just wondering ...

  • HT4796 I started Migration Assistant and then my old computer spontaneously restarted.  I am back in Migration Assistant but my [new] iMac is still waiting for input from my old computer, and my old computer is waiting for the iMac to connect.  What do I

I have a new iMac.  I'm using Migration Assistant to transfer files.  My old computer spontaneously shut down.  I restarted it and am trying to use Migration Asst again, but each computer is waiting on input from the other one.  What do I do?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

  • Migration assistant back out

I attempted to use migration assistant to migrate a user from one mac to another newer one. After sitting on less than one minute remaining for several hours I forced quit on the migration. Based on the amount of hard drive now used on the new computer it looks like the migration moved all the data over but did not complete the process. I would like to know if there is a way to back the migration out so that the new computer does not have it's harddrive quite so filled up.

At this point I would most like to simply remove the data from the new computer and use another method to migrate what data she really wants onto her new computer. After discussing with her there is a minimum of stuff she would like and I think it would be easier and minimize impact on the new computers performance simply to remove the data.
    New computer is PowerBook G4
old computer is Power Mac G4
I am not sure what version of OS they are running.

  • Migration Assistant/FireWire problems.... I'm not sure which

I've searched through many of the posts on this subject and I've not found anything similar so I thought that I'd try posting the question.
My lovely wife just bought me a new iMac for my birthday to replace my very old and very abused (also read... incredibly slow iBook G4). I didn't do MA when I first booted it up as I didn't own a FireWire then.
I just bought a FireWire yesterday, plugged it in to both computers and brought up the MA program. It seemed to recognize that that a computer was connected to the other end as it told me to reboot it into "FireWire" mode. I did that and then it never could hook up to the computer again. I've attempted it many different ways and times.
Frankly I'm at the end of my rope and I've been transferring files via BlueTooth just to get some of my old stuff on the new machine.
Hopefully, this is an easy problem for someone out there.

Also if you read in the back posts, Migration Assistant doesn't work well between PowerPC and Intel Macs:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=10
I would say one of the symptoms is just as you've said, it basically times out forever.
Please don't post any more "me toos". If you have a problem and it is not related to solving the original poster's thread, there is a way to post a new topic in this link:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219&start=0
You'll get a wider audience, and won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them.

  • Redo logs switches too frequent after migrating the db to different server

    Dear Experts,
A couple of days back, we migrated our database (belonging to EBusiness Suite) to a different server, to get good performance benefit. The database is 10.2.0.4 and it was migrated from AIX 5.3 to Linux x86 64.
Users are happy with the performance, but I am getting below errors in the alert logs
    a) Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 498
    b) Private strand flush not complete
    c) ORACLE Instance PROD - Can not allocate log, archival requiredOracle support is saying the issue is coming because of too frequent log switches. I am wondering how the log switches has become frequent in the new server. In the old server it was about 10 mins for every switch, now it is as frequent as 1 minute?
Any idea, what could be the reason behind this? Do you agree this issue is coming because frequent log switches?

  • Do you run Pre-Upgrade Assistant when migrate from 10.1 to 10.2

    Hello,
I tried to upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 on Windows. Base on installation guide, you have to install 10.2 in a separate ORACLE_HOME, then run utlu102i.sql through SQL before run DBUA. Since I installed 10.2 without create start database because SID is same as 10.1. How to run pre-upgrade assistant? Or should I setup new SID for 10.2 and change it back after migrate database from 10.1 to 10.2.
    Your assistance will be appreciated,

I'd suggest to check the "manual upgrade/migration" method described in upgrade doc.
    As a summary:
utlu102.sql is just a step to verify some prereqs needed before going to 10.2
You'll need to shutdown your 10.1 DB. Copy your .ora files from 10.1.to 10.2; adjust them appropriately.
Set your Oracle_home to 10.2; keep same SID. Startup upgrade, then run catpatch.sql (if i remember correctly).
All these steps are well described in the manual.

It's been so long I can't actually remember, but I think we moved users and groups together.
The SIDs will change if things are moving to a new domain.  But the migration tool handles that for you.

  • Migrating Application from Planning 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.2

    Gurus
I am trying to migrate a Planning application from Hyperion version 11.1.2.1 to version 11.1.2.2. Is there a way that I can use LCM? I have tried exporting the application from version 11.1.2.1 and importing it in 11.1.2.2 but all the forms are being registered as invalid.
The application also use business rules and LCM gave the following errors:
    Error in migrating artifact, "/Global Artifacts/Business Rules/Global Variables/XXXXX".
Cannot process artifact (XXXXXX). Unsupported artifact type (Global Variable).
Since Calc Manager is the only supported tool would this cause the problem with the migration process? If so, how do I migrate the application successfully.
I saw the upgrade option in the Planning Administration but how is application in the situation.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi John
Thank you for this I used the back-end migration and the steps are as follows for those that will need the help:
    1. Create a shell Planning app in 11.1.2.2
    2. Backup the database for the application created above
    3. Synchronize HSS between the source and destination environments (luckily I didn't have to do this)
    4. Take a copy of the database for the source application
    5. Stop the Hyperion Planning service (I stopped all the Hyperion Services to be safe)
    6. Restore the database of the source application on top of the database for the destination application.
    7. Confirm that owner SID for the app is still the same in the destination
    8. Clear the version of the application in the planning database
    9. Start Hyperion services in the destination application.
    10. log into planning and it will ask you to upgrade the application.
    11. Once thats done remember your substitution variables (in Planning), location aliases and the data (exported & imported as text files through EAS).
    Thanks John for the help.

  • Migration Assistant not transferring files in Mac OS X 10.5

I was trying to use Migration Assistant to move files from a PowerPC G4 running 10.4 to a Powerbook G4 running 10.5. They didn't get along, so I did some research and found that they both need to be running 10.5 to work correctly. I upgraded the PPC to 10.5. Now the "Transfer to another Mac" option in Migration Assistant has been replaced with the "Time Machine" option. The PPC will not boot in Target mode, I think because of a dead PRAM battery. I do not have a Firewire hard drive big enough for the migration. How can I get the "To another Mac" option back in Migration Assistant?

it wasn't necessary to upgrade the Powermac to 10.5 to use migration assistant.
Migration assistant in 10.5 offers 3 choices: migrate from another mac, migrate from a TM backup and migrate to another mac. that option is the last of the 3 and should be there already. you'll need an ethernet cable to use it.

The result is , I can see the table structure in the Oracle Enterprise manager console but no data.
    What's the reason?
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi,
If you are receiving the "JET/DAO error code 3265" error, the full text of this error message will read "3265 Item not found in this collection". The only circumstances I would believe you will receive this error message is where the table name you are trying to locate in the MS Access MDB file has been changed. Is it possible that you migrated your MS Access database, and selected the "modifying MS Access database" option without migrating the data, but then went back to migrate the data later?
During the "Modifying the Microsoft Access Database" process carried out by the workbench, the MS Access database is modified to allow the MS Access forms and reports to operate against the migrated data in the Oracle database. The original Microsoft Access tables are renamed to <tablename>L.  The original table is exported to Oracle where it is called <tablename>.  A table attachment is created to the Oracle table with the name <tablename>R.
When you open the MS Access MDB file, do the table names have "_L" and "_R" at the end of their names? If so, you have the option of using the "Exporter for MS Access tool" to extract your data, and then use SQL*Loader scripts generated by the workbench, to load the data into your Oracle database. When you have extracted the data from your MDB file using the Exporter tool, modify the generated .DAT files to remove any references to "_L" in the .DAT file name or in the file content. Then generate the required SQL*Loader scripts for these tables - please refer to Oracle Migration Workbench User's Guide for steps to generate the required SQL*Loader Control Files and how to use them.
Also, you mention that you do not have an ODBC DSN set up. As part of the install, a DSN called "omwb_msaccess" should have been created. As I mentioned previously, please ensure that this exists.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Hilary

  • Migration Assistant Crashes Every Time! Help!

Brief Version: Old computer crashes when Migration Assistant is used
Full version: I am the computer guru in my household. My mom was having trouble with her fully updated 1.33 GHz PowerBook G4 and Backup. I suggested what I used to do, which is use Migration Assistant to backup my Home folder onto a different computer. Since I have plenty of room after I quadrupled my hard drive on my fully updated 1.33 GHz iBook G4 capacity to 160 GB, I figured my hard drive would be able to house her home folder quite nicely. I start up Migration Assistant. I restart my mom's PowerBook in Target Disk Mode. The FireWire symbol is bouncing around like normal. I connect the two w/ FireWire. I go through the steps. I get to Select User Folders to Transfer or something. It keeps loading. I look at my mom's mac. The FireWire icon is not moving. I push the power button on my mom's mac. It doesnt turn off right away. It's crashed. I hold down the power to force it to shut down. I back up Migration Assistant and try again. I get through the select user folder screen. I get all the way to Transferring files. Fire wire stops moving again. I try repeatedly and I'm sick and tired of this! Please offer input!

  • Oracle weblogic Server 10g R3 -manual JMS migration and reverse migration

    Folks
we are trying to use manual JMS migration with WLST scripts /console and noticed several issues in Oracle weblogic serevr 10g R3 .(Currently not interested in using automatic server migration stuff)
1)Our use case is to be able to manually migrate JMS with persistent file store in case of long lasting hardware failure (so we need this working with the source server down)
    Here are my observations
    1) The console based manual migration works only when both the source and destination are up (ie for doing migration during scheduled maintainance and not for our use case)
    2) i tried wlst scripts which works partially for our use case
    wls:/jmsmigrationclustertestdomain/edit !> migrate('sb_ms1', 'sb_ms2','true','fa
    lse','all')
Migrating JMS and JTA services from 'sb_ms1' to destination 'sb_ms2' ...
    Migration completed successfully.
question is how do you migrate this back (reverse migration)
I tried a couple of wlst scripts which all were unsuccessful in migrating the services back. Syntax is also extremly confusing as the weblogic.Admin commands seem to be aware of "migratable targets" (such as "sb_ms1 migratable") but WLST doesnt seem to understand "sb_ms1 migratable"
If I just restart sb_ms1 without running any scripts, it complains about JMS artifacts(not being present) as they are migrated onto the other instance
I have this whole setup working on 9.2mp3 with weblogic.admin scripts
Thanks for any guidance on this

    Hi,
I guess you are using the default (system generated) migratable target names for the clustered servers, that have names ends with "(migratable)".
Are you performing the migration from "wls:/YOUR_ADMIN_SERVER_NAME/domainRuntime/MigratableServiceCoordinatorRuntime/the-MigratableServiceCoordinator" ?
Can you please post the exact WLST commands that you tried, syntax of the arguments and any erorr messages taht you have got while performing this operation?
    Thanks
