Back up music and not tv shows

I am trying to transfer my music library from my desktop to my laptop and I figued the easiest way to do this would be to back all my music up to a disk and then load onto the laptop but when I go to backup my library it won't because it says i need a dvd but cd so that the tv shows can go on it. What I want to know is if there is a way to backup just the music and not the tv shows?

Use a smart playlist that excludes video content as the rule. When you have the smart playlist made, simply burn your data discs to backup that playlist.

I followed your suggestion. there was no drop-down for aac protected audio file so I typed it in.
Nothing was is the new playlist when I hit OK.
It seems that the purchases I made from ITunes are not in aac format.
So I just created a new Music Purchases Playlist, and burned IT to a disc.

Baiscally the problem is that one comuter and one account has always been sued for eey persons itunes. Now if we want to be able to backup and use itunes on our own computers fro our iphones and such, how will all he data that is on our phones not be deleted once its plugged into a new computer? Also, is theere a way to get all the stuff on thw current itunes onto each computer, via differtn account name?

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Yes, you can. Simply plug the TC via Ethernet into the current router and set it up in bridge mode.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Time Machine should be enough to make a backup of your files. Also, it should back up all folders, so open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options, and make sure that there are no folders included in the excluded items list.
If you want to create a bootable clone of your hard drive, you need to use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Disk Utility's Restore feature > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html

Transfering music to your pc is only possible if you bought the music via iTunes. Then you can tranfer your purchases back to your computer.
Or you have to look for 3rd party software to transfer music you didn't buy in itunes to your pc. Search in google for "iphone music backup" or see this link:

All your music need to be in your iTunes library on your computer. You will need to copy your music from your iPhone to your computer.

Yes, turn off the wireless on the TC if you want to do this.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the TC, and click Edit
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the page
Change Wireless Mode to Off
Update to save the new settings

It doesn't say anything. It runs through the sync process like normal and tells me all of the songs that it's synking. But then when it says I can disconnect it, nothing actually synked.

Podcasts show up as music and not podcasts

All of my podcasts synch to my iPhone as music and do not show up under podcasts. They do show up as podcasts in my iTunes. Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone know a solution to this?

After selecting the orange “iPod” button on the bottom right of the iPhone screen then follow the directions from page 66 of the iPhone User’s Guide (below) to replace one of the Browse Buttons with the Podcasts icon.

I purchased a DVD from the itunes store. It is showing in my library on the computer, but after syncing, I can't find it on my iPad2. It is not in Music and not in Videos.

Is there anywhere else i should look? Is there a secret to this? First time I have bought a DVD.

In iTunes, you need to pay attention to mark/unmark the fields properly to everything runs well.
Syncing your device with iTunes, open your device. In the Resume Tab, if you have marked "Just sync Music and Videos selected" and/or have unmarked "Manage Music and Videos manually", they mean you need manage which music/videos you want in your device.
Go to Videos Tab, check if the video is there, but probably it is unmarked or something like this. Mark the blanked field and sync with your device again to see what happen.
If sitll not working out, check how iTunes Match works. You maybe need to have an account in iTunes Match to share the video with other devices you have.

Music and videos stopped showing up

ok so i plugged in my ipt(16gb) today to dl new podcasts, i disconnect it and go to podcasts and nothings there. i go to music and all my music is gone, same with videos. however i plugged it back into my mac and it still says all the music and videos are there (its direct sync with my library, and the memory diagram for the ipt still shows the percentages). i resynced the ipod 4-5 times and no success. i rebooted the ipod 3 times, no success. i could have sworn i saw someone else who had this problem on this forum but i couldn't find the thread. im going in to see apple tomorrow but i would like to not have to make the rather long drive to the store. any suggestions? i also resynced the songs t the ipod by saying i wanted to manually do it so all the "music" got erased and then set it back to do auto-sync so everything was recopied to the ipod, still nothing...the music's on the ipod, its just not appearing...photos still work fyi

It could be an error with iTunes, you could try to re-install itunes and see if that works. This problem could have been caused by disconnecting the iPod Touch during sync.
