Back up music only to disc?

Is there a way to choose what kind of files you want to back up to dvds? I don't want to keep wasting space on my discs by backing up podcasts and tv shows every time I back up new stuff to disc. I'd prefer to just back up my music only as I toss all podcasts and tv shows after watching them.
I'd like to do a complete new backup if there is a possible way because 48 dvds already is more than enough so any info is much appreciated.

If you don't wish to go the EHD route, & it really is much easier, simply a smart playlist that is only music. The following rule should work, "kind is not", then type in TV shows, movies, podcasts, etc. Check live updating. Simply burn a data disc of that playlist. I backup to an EHD several times a week, plus I burn data DVD's about once per month. When I set up my playlists for data discs, I made a primary backup list that includes absolutely everything in my library. I now use a second backup list based on "date added is after" & burn this SPL when I have about 3-4 GB of data on the list. After I burn this list, I simply change the date. For example, if I burn my current list tonight, I would change the date to "date added is after 2=29=08". Hope this helps.

  • Need help backing up music library to disc image

Can anyone suggest an easy way to create a disc image of all my ITunes library and then compress it so it would be able to be burned to DVD? Or multiple DVD'S... or just put away safely in another external drive ...but just a lot smaller. There are so many choices in the process when I have taken a look at how to do it, that I just was overwhelmed. For example; formating, journaling etc. HELP!!

You could get SOME compression by creating a disk image of your iTunes Music folder. Launch Disk Utility (Apps > Utilities), then File > New > Image from Folder. Navigate to your iTunes Music folder, decide where you want to save it, choose "compressed" from the drop down, (and encrypt if you want, personally I wouldn't add that overhead just for music), then click Image. It will take some time, but at the end you will have a smaller music folder ready to be stored. I'm not sure you will see a DRAMATIC reduction, but you will see some.
(Don't worry about your iTunes Library database and iTunes Music Library.xml files, those don't take up too much room and can be copied straight without compression.)

Log into icloud.com and then click on the Contacts icon.  If the list is empty, then it's gone.

  • How do i get back my music?

Hello, I recently changed frol an iphone 4 to a 5.
Without even having to conect to an itunes computer as I believed I should have, i got all my contacts and emails back.
The only issue that I'm facing is how to get mymusic back because I did purchase a loooot of music from my phone's itunes and even with my ID i can't seem to be able to have them back .
    Could you please help?
    Thanks

You should check if Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Show All Music is switched to on. Then your purchased(!) music should be ready to download in the music app. If it is not, try connecting to your computer, go into iTunes, to your phone (top right corner) and to the music tab. there you can select what music to sync to your phone :-)

His iphone is 3G apple.he want to move music and video from his iphone to his laptop. His laptop use Window xp professional Sp 2 and has itue 8.He want to back up
music and video in his laptop because the musics and videos already had in his iphone is from his friend pc.pls some instruction to me.
    Any advise would be appreciated.

Transfering music to your pc is only possible if you bought the music via iTunes. Then you can tranfer your purchases back to your computer.
Or you have to look for 3rd party software to transfer music you didn't buy in itunes to your pc. Search in google for "iphone music backup" or see this link:

airport utility only shows disc and not airplay

Actually......IF......one is using an older 5.x version of AirPort Utility......AND.....an AirPort Express, a Music icon is displayed at the top of the screen. If you click the Music icon, there are settings to enable AirPlay and establish a password for the service.
The newer Mac 6.x and iPad and iPhone versions of AirPort Utility automatically enable AirPlay, but display no settings for this.
Since ralphington is using Mavericks (10.9.4), there are no controls for AirPlay displayed in his version of AirPort Utility.

I havent used the phone since I got my iPhone 4. Anyone who know how I can reset the phone to standard installation or just get acces to the phone. There is no SIM card in the phone.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´   Those were good days..... What a City

  • HT1589 what's the best way to move content to a new library I created ie a holiday music only library?

what's the best way to move content to a new library I created ie a holiday music only library?

    Sophie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're only hope to recover the library as it once was is to: 1 - if you have a backup copy of your iPhoto Library or 2 - you can put everything back exactly the way it was in the Finder.
Otherwise you'll have to start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your current library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Back up music but not movies?

I'd like to utilize the backup feature for the music I've purchased from itunes. But I've recently also bought movies and videos, but because I dont have a DVD burner (only a cd burner), I'm stuck. Is there a way to burn the music (only) but not the video/movies.

Using Win Explorer, make a copy of your current ITL file (the itunes library database).
Press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes and choose to open an existing library. You want the copy you just made.
Delete all the movies out of that, but don't send the files to the recycle bin, obviously.
Now you can run the backup command from iTunes, and just back up your music.
My advice is to also test those backups. I never could get itunes to restore them properly, so I started using an external hard drive for backups, instead of CDs/DVDs.
After you are fininshed, close itunes and use the shift-start to go back to your 'regular' library.
    Info on using multiple libraries:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
The default path of the ITL file in XP is
    C:\Documents and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Music\iTunes

  • Ipod problems! backing up music

I just got a new ipod and I want to put all my songs from my old ipod onto my new one but I manually manage my ipod so it is connected to a pc and a laptop. I download songs onto my pc, connect my ipod to the pc and have to drag the songs i want into my ipod. Same goes for the laptop. So my pc has half of my songs and my laptop has the other half and they all come together in the ipod itself. My only problem is, I cant get the songs that i put onto my ipod via my laptop onto my pc to back the music up onto CDs. (there is something wrong with my laptop and it keeps asking me to enter a black cd in when there already is a cd in there). Is there any other way to back up the music on my laptop so when I connect my new ipod (which is only going to be used on my laptop) so that I will not lose it when I set up my new ipod and so i goes onto my new library?

Do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Where is the MUSIC ONLY playlist???????????

I'm posting this again because I feel there is no other way to get the opinion heard. If you agree with this post, please respond with your thoughts.
I wake up in the morning and I just want to hit the shuffle button and play music while I get ready for work. But wait... I can't do this!!!!!!!!! My "Library" is now full of audio podcasts and video podcasts, TV episodes and Music videos.. oh yeah.. and Music.
Hmm this seems odd. I've got a Podcast library.. where in I can listen to only podcasts.... I've got a Video library where in I can view only video content. I've even got a radio library. And, of course, the LIBRARY which holds everything. However, there seems to be one library curiously missing from this MUSIC player... hmm what is it..... MY GOD! it's a MUSIC LIBRARY! The iTunes Music player is missing a MUSIC library!!!??? What the...... ! With all the excitement about Podcasts and Broadband video content.. The music is starting to take a back seat.. While I love all this new content, sometimes I just want to hear my good old music.
Don't tell me I've got to make some kind of gigantic playlist of all my music and update it whenever I add a new song? That would be a work around. Apple is known for being intuitive and easy to use... remember... "I'm a Mac"... "and I'm a PC".
So my point to Apple is, take this oversight and fix it. Please add a Music ONLY library to your iTunes Music player. Or some other feature that automatically lets the music be separated from all the other itunes content.
If you agree, please respond. Lets see if we can change the most popular music player in the world.
    Rock on!

In addition to the Search Bar, I also make sure the "Skip when shuffling" option is checked for each and every podcast and video in my library. This way, even if I forget to select the Music tab in the Search Bar, I'm still guaranteed to never hear a podcst when I'm playing on shuffle.

  • I have bought a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB drive, first time I have selected Mac Windows option which excludes Time Machine to work on it, but now I want to go back and select Only Mac option to activate my Time Machine application. I request you to help me

I have bought a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB drive, first time during plug-in, I have selected Mac Windows option which excludes Time Machine to work on it, but now I want to go back and select Only Mac option to activate my Time Machine application.
I request you to help me with the procedure of the same?

IMPORTANT - This will reformat your Seagate drive and hence wipe it.  If there is anything on your Seagate drive you want to keep, save it somewhere else FIRST.
    Plug the drive in.
In Finder select Applications > Utilities > Disc Utilities.
Select the external drive, select Partition option, give it a name (I call mine Mac Backup), select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format and under the drop down menu "Partition Layout" select the number of partitions you want (so if you want the drive to just be for Time Machine, select 1 Partition, if you want part of the drive to be for Time Machine and the rest for something else, select 2 partitions and so on).  Click apply and the Disc Utility will partition and reformat your drive ready to use.
When this is complete, open Time Machine in System Preferences. Use  Select Disc to select the drive (or if you have multiple partitions, the partition of the drive) you want and you are good to go.
This may be a long way round, but it gives you the option to partition your disc which you may want.

  • Backing up iTunes library to disc in OSX Lion

Hello everyone! I've trying to back up my iTunes music library to a DVD disc. I've done this in the past With Snow Leopard by Clicking File > Library > Back up to Disc. This option does not seem available with Lion 10.7.2. Maybe I'm missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think it's a matter of operating system changes but iTunes changes. Several posts in the past few months with people complaining the backup to disc has disappeared from iTunes 10 versions. The programmers probably gave up on it because most people have huge collections these days that would be cumbersome to try to back up to the 50 discs or so they would require, and then repeatedly to keep them up to date.  External hard drives are relatively inexpensive and it is much easier to back up the whole computer (including irreplaceable photos) to them.  Factor in the cost of DVDs and a hard drive is cheaper in the long run.
You could still back up your iTunes folder using Finder's burn facility, but unless you have a tiny library it'll take some effort.

  • HT4527 back up music on ipod to an external device

i have a new computer.  i had backed up all itunes music on an external hard drive.  when i connected the external hard drive to my computer instead of transfering music from backup drive to computer, it basically transfered the new computer files to the hard drive, thus erasing my files.  the only place i have my music now is on my ipod.  can i back up music from the ipod to an external drive to put onto the new computer?  or can music go from the ipod directly to the new computer?

  • I cannot send video (via airplay) to apple tv. sound (audio music) only does works.

I have had my whole system working perfectly before, so this is a puzzle to me, unless it was some update?
When I 'send' audio music only to apple tv from PC it plays perfectly. But when I attempt to send video from itunes on pc, I get error message on apple tv. When I 'send' video OR music from iphone nothing works. When I 'send' video from ipad nothing works (did not test music on ipad)  Also, my "remote" software not connecting either anymore to apple tv. From apple tv side, everything works, connected to itunes and my library and everything works fine.
I have a single home (local) network with Apple TV connected via ethernet cable. not sure if RIP was helping or hindering but it is off. My iTunes is on PC (ver 11.02.26). On my Apple TV, airplay is ON. Homesharing is on. all devices on same homesharing. I have done updates on everything, reset everything, rebooted everything, kicked everything, unplugged and plugged everything back together again.
    but still no joy...

No, do not have micro usb cable. if it is a big deal, I can get, although have restored back to factory settings which 'appeared' to be successful. Although did not solve issue
