Back up of iphone4

I have had my iphone for over a year and have probably only synched it twice on a computer that is no longer in use. If I back up my device when i sync it with my itunes account that has not been used for a while, will it save everything including messages and photos especially?

I have a desktop PC which I want to reformat and reinstall Windows XP because I think I have a virus on it, I have also had the PC for 5 years and never done this opperation but I feel I should now.
I have also backed up my iPhone4 on the same PC (the one Itunes library its backed up on)
1. How do I back up my itunes onto an externall hard drive
2. How do I make sure that my iPhone will re-sync with Itunes once I reinstall Itunes on the PC after the format (ie I dont want to see that message that iPhone can only sync with one iTunes library)
3. Before I format the PC do I have to de-authorise my PC?
4. Once I reinstall windows XP and iTunes how do I make sure the my iPhone will recognise the itunes library so everything will sync again (ie. music, all, movies purchased items etc
5. Basically I want to reformat my PC and when I reconnect my iPhon/e it will be the same as before.
6. Are there certain files within the iTune folder that I need to vack-up
Hope somebody can help, as im a novice with Itunes and Apple based softwear.

Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer as you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new/rebuilt computer using the same tool used to back it up, ideally before installing iTunes.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

My old desktop PC has been used to sync and back-up my iPhone4.
However, when I installed itunes on the new laptop and tried to sync the iphone I got the message
"iPhone can only be synced with one iTunes library"
How can designate my new laptop as the one wheer I can sync and back-up my iPhone?
Old PC: Windows XP
New PC: Windows 7
Can somebody please send me step by step guide as im a novice with PC/iTunes

It will clear the phone. You need to restore the backup you made of your important files from the old computer (surely no one in the third millennium who uses a computer does not back it up regularly).
You can recover iTunes-purchased music, videos and apps from the phone, but not music from other sources. Connect the phone, do not sync, and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the File menu.
Photos in the Camera Roll can be transferred buy using the Camera Wizard on your computer.
Contacts and Calendar can be synced with apps on your computer; just make sure there is at least one entry in each app on the computer before syncing.
You are out of luck if you have photos in the Photo app on the phone; there are apps for your computer that can extract them, but they will be lower resolution than originals because they have been optimized for the iPhone's resolution.

Reboot your computer.
Disable your antivirus and firewall.
Connect the phone to a USB port directly on your computer, not to a hub. If your computer is not a laptop and has ports on both front and back use a port on the back.
If iTunes does not recognize the phone when you connect it see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If it STILL doesn't work open a command window and type:
netsh winsock reset
Then try again. (It seems that a recent Microsoft Windows update may have corrupted network settings; this restores them to the factory default).
BTW, was there an error number associated with the failed update?

It's not possible to delete it. You either moved it to another page or into a folder.

Unless you manually set your backup settings to exclude your camera roll, camera roll photos and videos are included in your iCloud backup. If the missing videos were on you phone when it was last backed up, restoring to the backup should recover them.

Getting the Error while restoring the iPhone3 back-up to iPhone4s

When i try to restore the back-up getting the error and restore is not happening with the iPhone3 data in iPhone4.
I have observed the below error in MobileBackUp log

ICloud seemed to have lost some old back up-went from a iPhone4 to a 3GS (temporary) back to a iPhone4

Hi guys
Hope someone can help me here- I broke my iPhone4 at Xmas and found as it was out of warranty I had to buy a replacement for £119
-fair enough!
So whilst not being able to afford this being January the worst month for self employment I borrowed a mates old 3GS and when I did a backup it had all my contacts (good!) but no music, apps, photos, ringtones etc. if I wanted an app or music album that I already own I can download for free- a bit annoying I know.. But my main concern was the photos and even previous text conversations which I didn't buy but I would want back. I PUT THIS DOWN TO IT BEING A DOWNGRADE TO A 3GS AND HOPED WHEN I BUY MY NEW iPhone4 THIS WOULD BE SORTED?????
So today I buy my new iPhone and restore from iCloud and I had the option of restoring from December before I broke my old iPhone4 or my backup which I did today before I switched back from the 3GS- obviously I chose the newest one so to not lose 2months of data... However this has completely the same as what I had this morning on the 3GS excluding all my old photos, texts,music etc.
Hope someone can help and sorry if I've babbelled on a bit here but I've found it hard to explain and could not find an existing thread.

Does the library open and there are no photos in it? If so, iPhoto may have just created a new library after encountering a problem with the original one. You can check by holding down the option key when launching iPhoto. If there is more than one library, check each one for the missing images. (You may also want to check the Pictures folder and the trash for any other libraries)
If you are sure the library that you are opening is the original and should contain the photos, check the file size of the library. If it's in the GBs than chances are rebuilding the library will recover them (Hold command and option while opening iPhoto, then select the option from the menu)

It is on the computer. It is referring to the File menu within iTunes. With the phone connect, go to the File menu then Devices then Backup. Another way to do the same thing in iTunes is to click on the phone's name under Devices in the left pane of iTunes and then click "Back Up Now" in the summary tab of iTunes main window.

I tried to also remove my account# from my daughter's phone so that we could get one assigned to her, but there is no edit prompt, so please tell me how to accomplish this. I really need to get my contacts back if that is possible, which I hope it is.

When you share an iCloud account any synced data such as contacts is merged. Also, any action you take on one device (such as deleting contacts) is synced to the other. (That's what iCloud does; it syncs changes across your devices so they maintain consistent data.) Unfortunately, you contacts are no longer in iCloud. Your only option is to try restoring your phone to your last backup, which may recover your contacts.
To sort out your iCloud issue, one of the phones need to be migrated to a separate account. On the phone that will be moving, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (i.e., deleting your daughter's data from your account, and vice versa).
Another thing to avoid is using the same ID on both phones for iMessage and FaceTime. If you do, you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls. If you're doing this, on one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID (such as your iCloud ID). Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

I want Siri back for my iPhone 4. The app worked great untill doomsday! Hijacked as a marketing tool for the 4s. So much for keeping current customers happy!

The propose is to encourage apple to restore the app. If enough users demand it be returned it will be. Examples of this are being set every day. Netflix has changed course and most of the big banks have back away from debit card fees. Maybe this is not the best way to send apple a message but I am trying.
