Back UP Old Version of iWeb and all Domain Files FIRST

** Originally posted in the other iWeb forum **
I know this is a tired theme, but since iWeb was updated today to version 2.0, I want to make sure that people understand they can, and should, retain their original installation of iWeb 1.1.2 if they're using third-party templates. Just copy it to a safe place - somewhere other than your Applications folder. This way you can still use it along with 2.0.
Why?
If you're using a theme that was NOT created by Apple, you'll need it. iWeb 2.0 has changed dramatically and no third-party template will work in 2.0. They're all DOA.
DO NOT open your site in 2.0 if it uses a non-Apple template. If you do that, and you update it to 2.0, you'll never be able to edit it again in 1.1.2, you won't be able to add pages, etc, because the template doesn't exist for that version.
I have another thread going with more details but I did not want this information to get lost in that thread. Please be wise and read everything and then back up your stuff before upgrading and playing with the new version. It will save you endless suffering if you do.
I will post updates on this situation at my 11Mystics site as well. As soon as we know if it's possible to convert the themes or regenerate them, I'll let you know.

thanks for keeping us up to date

  • I built a website, using iWeb.  I backed up daily with Time Machine and OS 10.6.  My HD crashed.  I replaced the HD and installed 10.5. But now I can't restore iWeb and my domain file. How do I restore my site files on the new drive?

I obviously dont know how to use this forum...my question to the community seems to be the truncated phrase in the title block above..you can scroll thru it to see my whole question....basiclly,.my question is:  How do I restore my iWeb domain files which are kept in  user>library>applicationssupport>iWeb>domain in my Time Machine date listings...to a newly installed disc.  I had a disk crash, removed the failed drive and installed another. I then installed OS 10.5 (I didn't have a copy of my 10.6). Now I'm having difficulty figuring out how to get the iWeb files from the Time Machine external drive used with the 10.6 to the new drive running 10.5...any help muich appreciated....!!

Go to to your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder in the Finder and then enter  Time Machine.  Go back to the last backup that has the domain file, select it and use the Restore button.

YOu need to be clear about the products you are using, so we can help you. In particular there is no trial of Adobe Reader, it is free and keeps running. Sounds like you are using some versions of Acrobat - which?
YOu must properly uninstall the trial, don't just delete files or you may get a mess impossible to recover.

You will need a separate partition unless you plan to use the entire drive. You will need an amount of space somewhat larger than the total space now used on your startup drive. If you select the startup drive's Desktop icon, then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Used space will be shown in the topmost panel. Add a GB or two to that number to determine how much space you'll need for the backup.
Do not backup on a drive that has any files you want to keep. You can make a bootable backup as follows:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • I bought a new iMac.  iWeb and all folders migrated over, no problem, but I cannot bring up my website - it only seems to allow for creating a new site.

I bought a new iMac.  iWeb and all its folders migrated over, no problem, but I cannot bring up my website - it only seems to allow for creating a new site.

You need the 'Domain' file in which iWeb keeps its data. This lives by default in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb. You need to locate it on the old machine and copy it to the same position in the new machine. Note that it is the Library folder in your Home folder, not the one at root level.
This folder is hidden on Lion and above; to access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice. In Mavericks you can make it permanently visible - open your Home Folder the from the Finder's View menu, choose show View Options and check Show User Library.

  • Compiling old version of GCC and Binutils

Hello everyone. I'm in search of a way to create bflt executables, and tried my best to follow this guide, but it requires compilation of a rather old version of gcc and binutils. This is what I'm getting after trying to run make.

It is gcc 2.7.2.3, and binutils 2.9. Is there anything I can do to make everything work nicely, or should I go the route of installing an older version of Linux in a virtual machine, then attempting this in that environment? I currently have gcc 4.6 installed. In case it matters, here is my uname -a
    Linux SMNG-N150 2.6.38-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon May 23 20:04:02 UTC 2011 i686 Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N450 @ 1.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
I appreciate any advice you guys can give me!

Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

  • Saved file goes back to old version after crash

    Hello everyone,
Has anybody had issues with Illustrator (5.5 or 6) with previously saved files crashing and going back to old versions? I've had it happen quite often. I start a new file, save it, close it. Next day or so I reopen, keep adding elements and saving in between. Next time, the same... Then it crashes and as I reopen the file it's back to day 1 or 2, rather than the latest times I've saved. Strangest thing ever!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Georgia

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. I was starting to wonder if it was just me having this issue. I'm saving to my work PC laptop (Lenovo), but has has this also on my Mac.
I've read about the network and external drives issue, but I've always avoided working anywhere else but my internal HDs. Not using graph tool but it's hard to narrow it down as I work on so many different projects at the same time. The latest file has been saved as something new and modified a couple of times (complex vector icons, but no shading/3D nor links). I do NOT have the "save compatible pdf"nor compression options enabled.
Other designers at work don't seem to have this issue, but they don't work with AI as often as myself, and mostly stick to the standard features.I would really like to figure this out as it's slowing me down and surely getting other people to wonder what I'm doing with my time (besides spending it here  ).
Is it possible Adobe is unaware of this problem???
