'Back Up' option is greyed out in iTunes?

I want to back up my 120GB iPod classic but on iTunes the 'Back Up' option under the 'Devices' tab is greyed out meaning it can't be clicked. This problem occurs on both computers I use to sync to my iPod, my MacBook Pro and a Dell PC.
Any Ideas? I tried the option detailed here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1535741) but it was to no avail.

That backup feature is for iOs devices, the older iPods like the classic don't run iOS.

  • Device options are greyed out in itunes

I cannot get my iPhone to show up in iTunes today. Has anyone ran into this issue? Thanks

    Hello stevecarry,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that your iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes on your computer.  Depending on whether you have a PC or Mac, please follow the appropriate link below to resolve the issue:

  • IPod touch no longer opens iTunes -- option is greyed out in device Summary

I've been using my 1st gen iPod touch with iTunes for two years with no problems. Recently when I plug the iPod into my computer, nothing happens (besides charging). If I manually open iTunes, the iPod does appear as a device, and I can click Sync to get things going -- but the "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" option is greyed out. Anyone know how to get this option back so my iPod will automatically open iTunes when I connect it to my iMac?

Looks like that, or a combination of the two took care of the problem. Yaaaaayyyyyy!
Thanks again for your help. It got a little dicey because without the manage my own files box checked iTunes tried to sync the iPod to iTunes and there wasn't enough room on the iPod for all of the music. Once I got the prevent sync bow unchecked in Preferences and unchecked the manage my files and use disc boxes unchecked I was able to check the start iTunes box and the manage my files box an apply it so that I have the best of both worlds going own.
    Life is good!
    Thaks again Brother.

  • I have an MP4 home vid in itunes.  I cannot get it onto my ipad. I tried "create new version" to make it into a format suitable for ipad, but the options were greyed out.  Any help appreciated.

I have created a home video, using my Panasonic Camera, and a high definition SD card.  It is now on my computer as anMTS file, which I converted into an MP4 as well.
But I cannot get this file onto my ipad.  I have tried countless ways.  I finally today thought I had the answer..........the MP4 file is now in Itunes (I hate itunes, it is so user-unfriendly) and I read that I need to click on it, go to "create new version" and select the ipad version.  But those options were greyed out.  !!!  Aaargh!  Frustration!  Any help gratefully recieved.

You can try and import your MP4 using free OPlayer HD Lite via File Sharing.

  • When i try to sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad using iTunes,  the "Selected Folders" option is greyed out with only the "All Folders" option available, how do i change this?

When i try to sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad using iTunes,  the "Selected Folders" option is greyed out with only the "All Folders" option available, how do i change this?

I add the keyword 'sync' to any photos I want added to the iPhone/iPad.
Then, during the regular process of syncing the iPhone/iPad with my computer (mac), the photos with that keyword would be copied onto the iPhone, iPad.
I've been doing it this way ever since I was shown how to; ie after I got my iPhone 2 years ago. And every time the process worked - until the last few weeks. Suddenly it doesn't do it any more.
I believe I have upgraded software (either iTunes or iPhoto or both) during this period. I try to keep my software updated but have noticed previously that the new version often is disappointing.
I've not tended to use Smart albums much.

  • Trying to get cd onto ipod touch but snching options are greyed out - I've opted to manually manage.

I'm trying to get CD onto ipod touch. copied it into ITunes library but when I get to synching 'selected playlists etc' all options are greyed out.  If I try and clink sync in bottom right hand corner it gives me warning msg that everything already on ipod will be deleted and I don't want that.  any ideas?

Head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions on your iPod Touch and make sure that restrictions for app installations are turned off.

  • All iWeb options are greyed-out, and can't make a new sites or pages.

    Hello,
I am having a very annoying problem with iWeb. Every option is greyed-out! I can't make a new page or site, and it quits as soon as I close the iWeb window. It is version 1.1.2 I have tried installing useless updates for iWeb that did nothing, and I've tried to open iWeb from iPhoto by clicking the iWeb button, which also did nothing. I'm just about to give up on it.
Can anybody please point me in the right direction or have a fix for this? All help will be appreciated!

    Hi ineedagoodalias,
The answer to your problem isn't necessarily the simplest, but I'm 99% sure that it will work for you.
You need to delete and reinstall iWeb. Not hard to do; you just need your installation DVD's that came with your machine.
Drag the iWeb.app from your Applications folder to the trash. Spotlight for other elements of iWeb, and trash those as well. Empty the trash and restart your machine.
On your recovery disks, as you move through the prompts, look for "Install bundled software". Customize the install to include only iWeb. After reinstalling iWeb you will be back to 1.0.1.
Update the app to 1.1.1 directly from this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iweb111.html
This will get you going, and you can update to 1.1.2 when you are sure everything is working properly. For other FAQ on iWeb, please see this link:

Be sure to let us know how it goes.

  • All Update options are greyed out in RH11

Hi.  I just reinstalled TCS5/RH11 to get rid of a missing .xpj file issue.  Then I imported an FM book and created a glossary in RH11.  I then edited my FM book and came back to my RH11 and tried to update the project with the changes in my FM book.  All options of Update are greyed out so basically, I cannot update my RH11 project.  Can someone hear me wail?

For some reason, the Link > Framemaker document option was also greyed out when I created the project.  I had been having trouble with the .xpj file not being created by RH11 and reinstalled TCS5/RH11.  Then I created the project and was able to find and open the .xpj file.  Like I said, I found then that the  Link > Framemaker document option was greyed out and could only import the FM book.
I recreated another project and see that the Link >   Framemaker document option is greyed out.  I can only use Link > Word document, which is of no use to me.  Any suggestions would be welcome!

  • Visualizer options are greyed out

I just realized that the Visualizer Options are greyed out for no apparent reason. I checked both the "iTunes Visualizer" and the "iTunes Classic Visualizer" settings to no avail. Is there a way to activate this feature?
    I am running iTunes 11.1.0.126 on Windows 7 64-bit.
    Thank you.

So does that mean nobody knows how to fix this or nobody cares?

  • In iPhoto, the "publish" option is greyed out when attempting to upload to Facebook. Any suggestions on fixing this?

Basically when trying to upload pictures to Facebook through iPhoto, the publish option is greyed out. I've tried signing out and signing back in, changing the Facebook password, removing the cache, and just restarting the computer. Next thing I can think of is reinstalling the operating system. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Yes! Have you found a solution yet? I have os x 10.6.8 too. Thanks

  • Guest options all greyed out...apart from delete

Just started a new role where virtualisation is Hyper V managed with SCVMM console. I am completely new to SCVMM and mostly new to Hyper V so could do with a some help with, what might be one issue or could be two separate issues
I've trawled the net but cannot find anything helpful so hopefully someone will have similar experience and can shed some light
ISSUE !:  Two servers, a MS Failover Cluster hosting 2 instances of SQL, are reporting an 'Unsupported Cluster Configuration'.  The error info is error(13921) suggesting an issue with NICs.  I have checked all elements both back end and front
end and all checks out OK.  Virtual switches on the HYPERV cluster are fine.  Just to make things more interesting, although one of the nodes is hosting both SQL instances, it hasn't been installed on the other node but I don't want to remediate
this until I am comfortable with the next part of the problem (see ISSUE 2)
ISSUE 2:  On the same two servers mentioned above, all options are greyed out, including Connect via RDP & Console, (although I can RDP to them both using MSTSC) and all power options,  except delete.  (if this were ESX based
I'd say that the VM Tools weren't running)
Could all this stem from the incomplete SQL instance installation? Is SCVMM smart enough to recognise that there is an issue with the failover cluster config (I don't think so personally) and report it as an 'Unsupported Cluster Configuration' AND could
this be causing the loss of controls.

    Hi Sir,
Could you please tell us the VMM and the hyper-v version ?
Can the cluster work without SCVMM ?
For cluster issue , cluster validation report should be a good place to start cluster troubleshooting :
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2012/05/07/10301709.aspx
As for  ISSUE 2 , my suggestion is remove the cluster from VMM then check if the VMM agent and related stuff were really removed , after that please solve cluster configuration problems if it exists in cluster validation report then add cluster
    again into SCVMM.
    Best Regards,
    Elton Ji

  • CD Ripped Music on iPhone6 Greyed out in iTunes and will not Sync/Transfer

I recently added my MP3 files back into iTunes.  I didn't seem to have any issues transferring any of these songs to my iPod Nano or work iPhone4s.  When I try to transfer these items to my new iPhone6 they are greyed out in iTunes and will not transfer.  I can, however, view and play the library when switching to the hone share file on wi-fi.
What am I not able to transfer these songs to my iPhone6?

Actually I just corrected this on my own by syncing specific items and checking nothing at all and then going back to select everything.
