Back up reformatted my partioned drive.

During a back up I managed to some how reformat the drive I was using for windows. Since then I can not reload anything into the drive and even tried to reload the drive and can not do anything with it now. Any ideas?

I your talking about your Bootcamp drive, You can use the Bootcamp Setup Assistant to delete the partition and create a new on to again run windows
If this doesn't work, then most likely your only option, if you wish to allocate the space back to your mac or run windows again, is to reformat your whole drive to one partition, back to Mac OS Extended (journaled), and then you can use the Bootcamp Setup Assistant to re-partition your drive and re-install windows

  • After reformatting my hard drive, I lost some of my apps and have to pay to get them back. What do I do?

My OS got corrupted, so I had to reformat my hard drive and in the process lose all the data on my hard drive. This includes apps that were included in my MacBook when I first got it such as Facetime, while others are at their pre-Yosemite versions. I can't reinstall them since I have to pay for them, while the other apps like iMovie and Garage Band can't be updated and also require payment. How do I get these apps back? I use a Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" running on 10.10.1. Bought it at around February or March 2014

    Hey JeromeAM,
When you first got your MacBook Pro, you should have agreed to accept the purchase to your Apple ID. Most of your apps that came from the Mac App Store can be downloaded again. To do that, open the Mac App Store and go to the Purchases tab and make sure that you are signed in. From there, you will see a list of apps that you can download again. If you still are not seeing, check to make sure that nothing is hidden.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

  • Time Machine won't let me back up an external hard drive

    Hello,
I am running time machine to backup onto a 500GB USB drive and keep my iTunes library on a firewire 250gb drive. When I looked in time machine options in system preferences I found that my firewire disk is already listed as 'do not back up'. I want it backed up and don't seem to be able to remove it from that list. Anyone have an ideas why?
    Cheers
    Steve
    PS First ever post!

Are you referring to the drive used for backups, or the drive I want to back up? When I first used Time Machine, my external drive (used to house my itunes library) was on the exclude list. I easily removed it and the TM window reflected the additional contents (indicating a backup of about 75G (27 on internal drive, remainder on external). But backups are being done only on the contents of the internal drive.
I too have re-included the external drive on the exclude list, then removed it. No help. Do I have to reformat my external drive and lose all of my itunes music?
    thanks

  • How to Copy a Specific Time Machine Back-Up to Ext Hard Drive

I'm transitioning from a MBP early 09 to a MBA mid 11.  I pruned the MBP pretty well to migrate items from it to the Air, but I want to preserve the last "full" Time Machine back-up of the MBP to an external hard-drive.  Not the "latest" - as the lastest back-up includes the pruning need to migrate necessary items from the Pro to the Air - but one dated a few days before I began the pruning.  How do I get that specific back-up (currently on External Hard Drive A - 250 GB) onto a new external hard drive (Ext Hard Drive B - 1TB)?  I want to preserve that specific back up then ERASE Ext Hard Drive A to use as a portable for the the MBA.  Thank you.

don't delete anything on the TM drive using finder. you can do it from TM interface. however, in your case it will not help because TM will always make a full backup after a system restore like you did and there is absolutely no way to avoid it. as suggested you might want to reformat the TM drive and start backups from scratch.
BTW, to delete a single backup you start TM, scroll back to that backup, click on the "gears" action button in Finder's toolbar and select "delete backup".

  • How to reformat usb flash drive after formatting it in mac

I know this might sound stupid but I used a 16gb kingstonflash drive for a backup for my macbookpro since there are only few to back up and I was thinking I can copy the backup files to an external disk after. With that said, I used the time machine and it said that it would erase everything on the USB. I clicked okand then once the flash drive was "made compatible", it started to backupbut the total file is 34gb so I can't use the flash drive as back up.
I tried reformatting the flash drive, but the total free space is 198mb and even if I removed the partition or erase ( I see a hitachiand kingstonpartition when I looked at the disk utility) it never goes back to the 16gb. I checked it with windows and the USB space is also 198mb out of 198mb (free space) I don't know where the 15.9gbwent.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Them do it on a Mac with Disk Utility.
On Windows you might have to first delete all the partitions before you can select Convert to MBR.
But try it on OS X.
Open Disk Utility with the drive connected and select the Top name of that drive in the left most area of the window.
Then in the Partition Layout drop down select 1 Partition. Then the Options... button will become active, select that button.
Select Master Boot Record and click OK. The format should already be MS-DOS (FAT) but if it isn't select that. You can give it a name or not. Then Click the APPLY button.

  • Reformatted a hard drive, but it still shows up in "Tabs From Other Computers." How do I remove it?

I recently reformatted the hard drive in a PC and did not unlink from sync account prior to doing so. The machine continues to be present when i pull down the menu option "Tabs From Other Computers"., even though I have not installed Firefox on the fresh hard drive. How do I remove it from the list?

    Hi!
Unfortunately this is not possible at this stage. If this is something that bothers you, the next time you format a hard drive or, in general, want to remove a device from that view you should "Unlink this device" from the Sync Tab in the Preferences window.
Because you can't go back to that specific profile of Firefox you can't do it, but don't worry, eventually it will disappear (the servers don't store the information forever).
If you really want to remove it, you will need to reset the account and plug all your devices again. To do so, you will need to reset the Recovery key and set up the account in your computer again. This is the process that we recommend when a device is lost. Make sure that you have a backup of your information before proceding: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Replace%20your%20Sync%20information Replace your Sync Information]
And to learn how to back up your profile, follow this link: [[Backing up your information]]
    I hope it helps.

  • PC back up files -- External hard drive -- Mac?

I just reformatted the hard drive on my Mac Book (running Mac OS X 10.5.8), and plan to use it as my primary machine. But I've got system back-up files from an old PC on an external hard drive (was running Windows 7) that I'd like to transfer over if possible. Mostly .mp3 files and documents. The hard drive itself is compatible with both platforms.
    Is this even possible?

    Is this even possible?
Yes. Hook it up and copy the files over.

  • How to back up an external hard drive?!

I have a 500GB external hard drive that I use to store a very large photo catalogue. I also have a 1TB external hard drive that I have set as my Time Machine volume.
TM isn't backing up my 500GB drive, and I've verified that it's not on the exclusion list in TM preferences.
Anyone know how to get this going? I need TM to back up that external hard drive as well as my computer's internal drive.

Don't forget that repartitioning/reformatting will result in a blank HD; put the goodies in a safe place beforehand. If you have problems getting rid of the existing format, [check this writeup which I did for NTFS|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7783365#7783365], but applies to FAT32 as well.

  • I interrupted a software update and my macbook pro will not boot. I have tried to reboot using the startup disc, I have tried to verify the disc, and repair the disc. It tells me I need to erase and reformat the hard drive then reinstall the operating sys

I interrupted a software update and my macbook pro will not boot. I have tried to reboot using the startup disc, I have tried to verify the disc, and repair the disc. It tells me I need to erase and reformat the hard drive then reinstall the operating system. I do not have a back up of all my applications, my garageband music and other things. I also do not have time capsule set up on this machine, but I do have a 2 TB time capsule.
Is there anyway to back up this corrupted drive so I can restore my applications later?

There's an old saying.  If you don't have a backup disc, then there must be nothing important to backup.  That's just lesson #1.  Lesson #2 is to never interrupt a software update.  Not a good thing.
OK, I'm sure you know this.  It just upsets me to read your story, knowing you have a lot of important stuff on your hard drive, and didn't use time machine.
You're pretty much in a bad place.  My only hope for you is to boot to your Installation Disc, then using disk utility see if you can save the internal hard drive (by fixing what can be fixed).  You might be able to see your user folder and some of your apps.  I wouldn't even consider copying the library, because who knows what's been corrupted in there.
    Good luck.

  • Can't back up to ext hard drive

Every time I try to back up to external hard drive to always say's "The backup disk is not in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which is required."please can someone tell me how to fix this problem...

    Format the External Hard Drive.
Go to Utilities > Disk Utility
Select the Erase tab, then select the format and erase the drive.
*If you have anything on the drive, make sure it is backed up to another drive. It will erase all data on the drive and reformat it.

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive and copied over a backup from time machine now I have a kernel panic message (you must restart) - what do I do now?

i just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive, installed a back up from time machine and now have kernel panic ( you must restart your computer) what do I need to do?

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.

  • How to Reformat the hard drive I use to edit with..."scratch disc"

Today when I turned on my computer I got a strange message on the screen that basically said I need to back up one of my drives and format it asap. It also said the computer couldn't repair it.
This is the HD I use to edit with as my scratch disc with Final Cut Pro.
I am in the process of backing my files up now. One thing I noticed was that some of my files I don't need anymore and wanted to trash them but it won't allow me to trash files! I get an error message when I drag the file to the trash. So I am going to have to back everything up and I guess will have to erase the disc.
I never reformatted a disc before so if anyone knows what I need to do that would be great since this is the drive I used to edit with.
    Thanks.

To reformat a hard drive, launch Disk Utilities (in the Applications->Utilities folder) and click on the Erase tab. Select the drive you want to reformat then choose "Mac OS Extended" ... give the volume a name and click on the Erase button.
Once the drive is reformatted, open FCP and assign it as the scratch disk.
However, the drive may be suffering from other problems that reformatting won't fix.

  • Lost iTunes in reformat of hard drive

How do I upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 without losing everything on my iPhone? I had to reformat the hard drive in my computer due to problems with my OS and lost the iTunes loaded with all that information like playlists, music, photos, apps etc.
Basically, I want to get iTunes to accept all that information so that I can restore the new iTunes to the way it was before I lost it. Then I can install iOS5.
I used the backup function by right-clicking on my iPhone icon, but am not sure if it backed up everything so I am holding off on doing anything else until I can get some guidance.
Thank you to anyone who can provide relief. Worse comes to worse, I stick with IOS 4.3.3

it only took so long because i have a crappy internet connection i think it downloads basically the files from the recovery partition from online.
i lost the recovery partition by formatting my drive when restoring a time machine backup,  and when that installation wouldn't let me past the login screen i restarted going into the internet recovery, it took around 1.5hrs to download the necessary files (~1mb connection ) and loaded straight into what looked like the recovery partition, now in order to partition my hard drive for windows(says i have a broken partition map, fixing that can only be done outside of the operating system).
hence i'm downloading lion as we speak from the appstore to keep on a usb stick
edit: also internet recovery when it's downloading shows just a spinning globe with a progress bar and a timer at the bottom, it also appears to not save the files it's downloaded, just caches them

  • Dreamweaver CS3- Can't activate after reformat of hard drive

    Hello
I had to reformat my hard drive due to a virus and made note of all my serial numbers.
I put Dreamweaver CS3 back on laptop with disc and it accepts my code but then I have to phone to activate it fully.
I then get a message on  the phone telling me to go to adobe.com/go/activation, I can then do nothing there.
It tells me to click help in dreamweaver and activate from there but I can't get past an activation screen to get there.
Please help as I need to work on my website.
    TIA Ian

I know CS2's server has been deactivated due to some unnamed "technical problem".
As for the OP, I would uninstall and run the cleaner tool then try again. The cleaner tool is available here: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
You "may" also benefit from trying the install this way, just make sure to follow ALL of the instructions...
