Back up strategy for java systems (EP7.0)

Hi Gurus
We are using windows server 2003 Ent and SQL server 2005 for our ECC 6.0 system (dual stack). and one more Enterprise portal  7.0. on different box with the same OS and DB.
As i am new to MS sql can any body let me how to proceed with the back up policy  especially with the JAVA systems
This is i am planning.
Whole Database     Full - Offline     Monthly
/usr/sap/<SID>         Full-  Online       Daily
transaction logs                every 4 hours
Any way frequency does not matter. but are these above steps are suffienent to recover or do we need to keep more on backup.
kindly suggest us.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
BALAJI

Hi Bala,
Do have a look at these threads, while they may not answer your question they seem to have some good inputs
1 - How to backup MSSQL  database in ECC6
2 - https://cw.sdn.sap.com/docs/DOC-40515;jsessionid=1B4BAE46AE116F95C178F7D34A259E6F
In one of my assignment where the setup was more like the one you mentioned we did the following:
BI-Weekly
Windows Filesystem Backup
Whole Database - Offline Backup
Everyday:
SID backup - online
Apart from that we also included plans for backuping the UME Database (it was a directory), TREX
Good Luck!!!

  • Configuration of EWA reports for java systems.

    Hello,
I am facing a problem with configuration of EWA reports for SAP NW Portal.
I have already configured EWA for abap systems, and those are running good on weekly basis. but i have problem with configuration of reports for java systems.
So far, i have installed an SMD agent and CA on my EP-satellite system. I have also configured and SMD server on my Sollution Manager and registered the SMD agent on SMD server and installed Willy Introscope on SMD server.
I  am using a central SLD which is running on different host as Solution Manager. I did all the configuration (smsy_setup, configuration of sld_data_supplier etc... )
I have also created the system in SMSY, matched the smsy with SLD and assigned Logical component to java system.
So far, so good according to manuals but when i  want do define data collection in the SMD for Gargage Collection  (task in scheduler) i cannot see host of my portal system.
I can see only the hosts (scheduler tasks ) of all abap system for which the EWA reports have already been  generated.
    Am i missing something?
    Some configuration in SMD?
My solution manager is running on Sap NW 7.0, SPS16,
Sattelite system  NW 7.0 EP, SPS 6 (planning to SPS 19)
    Thank you for your advices!!!

    Hi Suveer,
I did the configuration before. I forgot to mention it.
I found this errors in Diagnostic Setup, maybe this could be the cause of the issue.

  • EWA alert report for java system shows wrong data

    Hi,
In our solman system, EWA alert reports are configured every week for all the production systems (both ABAP and JAVA). Recently oracle database was upgraded from 10g to 11g in all the production systems. The EWA alert report for ABAP systems is correctly taking the 11g database details and is suggesting parameter changes. Unforunately the EWA alert report for Java systems is still pointing to 10g database and is suggesting the parameter changes for 10g only but the systems are on 11g.
In SMSY, the database of the java systems is maintained as 11g only and not 10g. STill we are not sure where the data is being fetched from.
Please help me in finding the issue.
    Regards,
    Ragav

    Hello,
iNote 1482818 would be iapplicable if not java checks are being made. You are not reporting no java checks, you are reportijng the check is being performed, but has the wrong value. When you updated the database dis you perform Solman_setup, Mnaaged system setup?
The reason I ask s that is what prepares the java side for EWA. For isntance if you had on old version of ST-SER such as 700_2008_2 then it does not know about Oracle 11.2....but that is on the ABAP side, you would need ST-SEr 701_2010_1 to
recognize ORacle 11.2 on the ABAP side.
So while I am not 100% sure in this specific instance, it seems logical that if the Java side isn't recognizing the Oracle Database version ( which means it is making this check) then you may need to run the Solman_setup, Mnaged system setup to pick up the ability to detect a new version of Oracel on the Java side.
It is certainly worth the try.

  • Can Central System administration be configured for JAVA systems?

I know, we can configure Central system administration (DSWP -> Solution -> Operations Setup) for ABAP and ABAP+JAVA systems.
Can some one tell me, can it be configured for JAVA systems like Portal?
    Thanks
    Aditya

    Hello Aditya
Unfortunatelly Java only systems are not supported by CSA in EHP1. The CSA infrastructure is currently being overhauled and as a result of this, pure Java systems will also be covered starting with the next release of SAP Solution MAnager (SAP Solution Manager 7.1) The availability of this next release will be this year, but I am not yet sure when exactly. You can check further info in www.service.sap.com/solutionmanager -> in the last line of this page there is a link to get detail about this version Ramp-Up.

  • Database statistics for Java system in CCMS (RZ20)

    Hi All,
We have configured CCMS for JAVA system, but unable to view the Database statistics like Tablespace size, Free space, Backup, Performance etc., for it.
We are able to see these statistics for ABAP stack.
Is there any possible method (or) class to view these statistics?
We have even created a new rule-based monitor with class CCMS_DB_mcmtc and CCMS_DB_space_mscl but in vain.
Even if we cannot view these in RZ20, do we have any other methods like Netweaver administrator or Introscope or some other means....?
    Waiting for some help......
    Regards,
    Phani.

I don't think there is any separation between CCMS and other systems, all use one database. If you use MaxDB use Database Manager, if smth like SQL Server or Oracle use standard tools of this vendors, like Enterprise Manager third party tools also helps you, cause I don't see any difference between

  • Client strategy for DEV system in an implementation proj

    Hi,
Can some one advise a good client strategy for an impl project? here's and example and questions i have. if you have a better strategy, pls advise. We want to follow this on ECC 6 DEV system -
10 - Sandbox (play around before doing config - no transports)
20 - Golden client (do real config here, and do development here - transports will start from here)
    30 - Test client (for SCC1 testing)
I am assuming I should do DEVELOPMENT in the same golden client - does that make sense? Else, which should i have a new client? in that case, how will transports move?
    Thanks for all your help

    Hello Jerryp,
    Our customer has similar setup:
    100 - Sandpit
    200 - Dev and Cust
    300 - Testing
    400 - Sandpit 2
Whenever we need to do any unit tests in client 300, we copy over customizing by using SCC1 transaction (client copy via transport request).
For example whatever development (code or customizing) we do in 200 is copied over to 300 by SCC1. This ensures the client dependent customizing is in sync with client 300 without destroying data.
Also, periodically we refresh client 100 and 400 and with data and customizing from 300. No development client independent changes are possible in the sandpit and testing clients.

  • Earlywatch Alert configuration for Java system

    Hi All,
I have configured the Solution manager diagnostics for early watch
alerts for a java system by following the guide "EWA for non-ABAP
    components" in note 976054.
I am able to get the EWA reports manually, i.e by downloading
the "service download" file from http://<host-name>:<port>/smd/services
and uploading it in T-code DSA in Solution manager system and by
generating the "word" file over there. But i require the automatic
configuration to work. This automatic reports generation is not working presently.
Is there any separate configuration to be done for the automatic report
    generation for Non-ABAP systems.
Waiting for any one of your help,
Points will be awarded for any useful solutions.
    Regards,
    Phani.

    Hi,
Normally you have nothig to do, the report should be generated each week automatically. But you have some checks in  document attached to <b>SAP Note 976054</b> to see if everything is activated (SDCCN, NONE Destination, etc...).

  • Disc for Java System Copy?

    Hello,
Does anyone know which installation master disc to use for a java system (specifically portal 6.0) uses?  The documentation I have says to use the NW04 SR1 Installation Master disc.
I have this disc and have applied the installation control patches, the copy control patches, and ISERPACK7.
When I try to do the SDM export, I cannot do so because the path SAP NetWeaver '04 Support Release 1 -> Java System -> <DB> -> Central System -> Migration Database Export does not exist.  I get to the 'Central System' portion of the menu, but there's no option to export the DB.
I'm using disc: SAP NETWEAVER 04 SR1  - SAP Installation Master DVD (51031148).
I appreciate any insight as to where I might be going wrong.  Thank you.
    ~TJ

I appreciate everyone's help.  SAP Support came through with a solution for me:
    Hello TJ,
obviously, the control.xml file delivered with SAP CD/DVD 51032143_1 is
erroneous. However, for "system copy enterprise portal iseries", I foundthe SAP Note 977906, where following statement can be found:
Updating the Installation Master DVD (if required)
In the following cases you must update the "6.20/6.40 Installation
Master (Edition Sept. 2006)" DVD before starting SAPinst:
o you want to install a Java or Add-In system
o you want to do a Java export <-- !!!!!!
Since this is the situation you currently face, I would advise you to
follow the instructions from that SAP Note:
    1. Download the attached NW04_09.SAR archive.
    2. Extract NW04_09.SAR to the root directory of the copied "6.20/6.40
Installation Master (Edition Sept. 2006)" DVD using SAPCAR.
    3. Start SAPinst as described in the installation guide.
That is, you should remove the current installation directory
/usr/sap/SAPinst/NW04/COPY/EXPORT/JAVA/COPY/EXP , and restart the EP
    system copy from scratch.

  • EWA for Java Systems

    Dear All,
we had configured some java instances on our solution manager (Ehp1 sp 7).
But if we try to add the systems to the solution and schedule the ewa report the solution try to connect to sdccn.
Based on what i was able to read in other posts the pure java systems doesn't use sdccn (of course they don't have abap).
In the smsy configuration for the java systems we have as product version Netweaver 7.0 and as relevant product instance selection these four line:
    Adobe Document Services
    Application Server Java
    EP Core
    Enterprise Portal
all with instance sid as technical system and java as system type.
Do i need to do something else to let the Solution understand that these systems are pure java so solution will not try to launch the sdccn transaction?
(Diagnostic agent is already getting data and bi content is active).
    Thanks and regards
    Federico Pancucci

    Hi Federico,
It should be described in the attachment of SAP Note 976054.
As well, please take a look at the following two URL's which have more documentation on this.
If you still need more help, please tell me what is the exact issue that you are facing, such as getting a certain error after the session (ewa) is created in DSWP or getting red flagged?

  • Changing URL path or prefix for Java Systems for Reverse Proxying

I am running an Apache Reverse Proxy for multiple systems including Enterprise Portal and GRC.  Unfortunately, the two systems share the same directory structure (e.g. /webdynpro, /images, /logon, /useradmin, /VC).  The reverse proxy won't be able to differentiate URLs for the two systems.
I want to add a prefix (e.g. /grc/webdynpro) or change the URL directories (e.g. /grcwebdynpro) for Portal or GRC.  How can I do this?

Thank you for the reply, but could you explain?  It seems like this wiki is suggesting how to change the default port and start URL and how to configure reverse proxies in general.  It doesn't seem to answer the specific question that I have.
I need to add or modify the URL so that it is unique to the reverse proxy.  For example, EP and GRC both use /webdynpro.  I would like one of them to use a completely different structure (e.g. /grc/webdynpro) so that the reverse proxy can differentiate requests to different hosts.
The reason why changing the Start URL doesn't seem like the answer is because the fundamental directory structure is still the same.  The reverse proxy won't be able to differentiate the different requests because of this.
I am looking for some kind of configuration that lets me add a prefix to the entire web application server.  Is anyone aware of this configuration or know of an alternative solution?

  • How to create Logon groups for JAVA Systems

    Hi,
I am implementing an BI JAVA Landscape. We do have 1 Central Instance(CI) and 2 Dialog Instances (DI) JAVA Standalone. Everything based on NW04s
I have set up a Web Dispatcher to do a load balancing. The Web Dispatcher is connected to the Message Server (MS) of the JAVA CI to get all the information about the Engines.
I am now looking to create Logon groups to distibute the load according the application used applications. I am not sure if there is a possibility to set up logon groups (server groups) directly somewhere in the J2EE engine, or if I have to set this up in the WebDispatcher konfiguration files?!
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Dominik

We're trying to do something similar with NetWeaver CE 7.1.
According to [this documentation|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/3dbe11a82b6bf1e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm] there are 3 steps to doing this for NetWeaver CE 7.1:
    1. Logon Groups
    2. Web Dispatcher profile changes
    3. HTTP Provider property changes
We've set up a Logon Group in the NetWeaver nwa and associated the two instances (one host) with it.
"[Configuring Logon Groups Using Configuration Files|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/3c3f0cad9f4c2de10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm]" says: "...to create the files using HTTP Provider service."
There it doesn't say exactly how to generate those 3 text files; it says: "1. Create the icrgroups.txt and urlinfo.txt files that define the logon groups. For more information, see the documentation of SAP Web Dispatcher." ; but, has no link to what it says to see.  So, I manually go to ["SAP Web Dispatcher", "Assigning Logon Groups"|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/b4/9aa8862e714e6db8e74e48e5d3283b/frameset.htm].  But, it all pretty much breaks down there because it's referring to apparently non-NetWeaver CE 7.1 stuff (as near as I can tell); for instance, how do the transactions SMLG and SICF relate to NetWeaver CE 7.1, or am I in the wrong place?
I tried to press ahead with files similar to the examples here, but I hit this error in the Web Dispatcher:

  • EWA for Java only systems

    Hi,
I'm searching for a guide to set up EWAs for Java only instances. Currently I have my Java instances in SMSY as system components, but how do I set up the EWAs as only ABAP instances are selectable. I'm using the latest SP, so this functionality should be available finally. I can't find a document about that anywhere, just some very bad documented snippets in SPRO...
    Regards,
    Pascal

    Hi Pascal,
EWA for Java systems is currently in a pilot phase. It will be released with the note 976054, which is currently still being processed internally.
Note 976054 contains a setup instruction for EWA for non-ABAP-components.
Technically, for pure Java systems the "Central SDCCN" of the Solution Manager is used as indeed pure Java systems do not have a SDCCN.
Double stack installations do not make use of the Central SDCCN, using their local SDCCN to obtain the non-ABAP data that is collected by the Diagnostics part of the Solution Manager.
The note will be released in the very near future.
    Best regards,
    Walter Heibey
