Back up to iCloud using Verizon?

I've decided to back up documents to iCloud, but I've learned that regular backups use WiFi.  This is a problem for me because there is no WiFi service where I live.  However, I have an unlimited data contract with Verizon.  I signed the Verizon contract many years ago and it remains in force as long as I keep making the payments.  Is it possible to do iCloud backups over Verizon rather than WiFi?

Hello JoBo,
Thank you for the question.  When making an iCloud backup of your iPhone, it will require Wi-Fi and a connection to a power source:
iCloud automatically backs up your device over Wi-Fi every day while it’s turned on, locked, and connected to a power source.

Alternatively, if you are just wanting your iWork documents to be located on iCloud, you can use your cellular service for this.  You can enable "Use Cellular Data" by tapping Documents & Data in Settings>iCloud.

I think (and I'll double check) only the BBLink events will sync on a wired USB sync. I'm fairly certain of that.
You'll need to use your calendar syncing via an EAS email account (outlook.com, for instance, is free) to sync wirelessly. It works great. I use it and was a former tied to the USB sync guy as well... and I thought I was gonna die a painful death without it. I found more freedom this way.
This explains the process. But I don't think you'll get BBM Groups to sync.

  • I have an iphone 5 and use verizon service.  I just lost about 60% of my contacts.  I am using verizon back-up assist to sync my contacts.  I actually had to have my phone reset at the store and lost all my app etc.  I want to avoid this in the future.

I have an iphone 5 and just suddenly lost about 60% of my contact list.  They just disappeared from my contact list.  I also could not add new contacts. Someone told me that it might be because I was using verizon back up assist.  I had my phone reset at the store and am now using icloud.  I lost all my apps and have had to manually re-enter my contacts.  I would like to avoid this happening again.  Is it my phone? Can anyone comment.  Thank you!

Backup your iPhone. Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > > Back Up Now

  • TS4036 I am trying to restore my phone using iTunes back up and iCloud back up. Both won't let me do it.  They said that it could not be completed.  What can I do to get my phone restored?

I had to wipe my phone clean because of storage issues.  It kept saying I didn't have enough storage for pics or apps, but I only had about 75 pics and 1 extra app. So, I backed up my iPhone on icloud and itunes, then cleared off my iphone using the steps in the settings.  Then, when I am going back to restore my iPhone using iTunes back up and iCloud backup, it fails in both locations.  It says it failed to be completed.
    What now?

Thank you Terence for your help.  I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive.  so i felt sort of ok.  but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted.  it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it.  my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this.  i have 10 years of photos and videos.  so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup.  i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups.  i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all!  do you know why that is?  all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful.  thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash.  especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed.  any answers you have would be great. thank you.

Hi I updated my iPhone 4 and my Mum's iPhone 4 to software version 5.0. They both use the same apple id and they are both backed up to iCloud. Once I updated my mum's phone i noticed that her contacts are now on my phone i deleted some of them but then she noticed that they had been deleted off her phone to. Has anyone got any ideas please.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your password for logging into iCloud cant be different than your password for your Apple ID if you use that Apple ID to log into iCloud, it sounds as though you are using 2 accounts.

  • I set up new phone (5) as a "new phone instead of backing up from icloud. How can I get back in to use the icloud backup? If I hit "delete account" does that just clear the new phone or does it get rid of my whole icloud account.

In the set-up process I clicked "set up as new phone" when I should have clicked "back up from icloud". I can't use itunes for the back up as it is not current. Is there a way to get back into setup? If I click "delete accout" in icloud management will it clear just my phone (so I can start over) or will it actually delete my icloud?

Settings>General, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Reset, choose to delete all data.  Then attach to itunes and choose to perform a restore.  You'll get the option to restore from icloud.

  • HT4623 Here's the thing guys. I want to update my iphone 5 from 6.1.4 to ios7 using OTA. I have backed up on icloud. I just want to know that if i update then will all the music stored on my iphone will stay there after update or do i hav to sync it usin

I want to update my iphone from 6.1.4 to ios7 using OTA but i'm not sure if my content will stay in the phone after the update especially the music cuz rest of it is backed up on icloud.

Updating is not suppose to wipe any media or apps.
It may happen because sometimes things just go wrong.
I would back everything up first.

  • I have an encrypted back up password that I can't remember and I can't back up to icloud. How to I get a backup I can use?

I have an encrypted back up and can't remember the password. I can't back up to icloud either (maybe because of that). How do I get a backup I can use?

Either remember your backup password, or you don't.

  • HT4859 how do you see the items that are backed up to iCloud -  I have 4.5 GB that I have used but I cant find where to see those items...help

how do you see the items that are backed up to iCloud -  I have 4.5 GB that I have used but I cant find where to see those items...help

That is everything in your iCloud account.  Videos and camera roll photos are only included in your backup, the size and content of which you can see on your phone in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage>tap the name of your device under Backup.  This will show you the size of "Camera Roll", where these are contained.  (You can't see any detail beyond that.)  Photo stream photos can only been seen in your photo stream album on your phone, and they don't count against your storage so they aren't part of the 4.5 GB.  Everything esle is either in the backup, the items listed in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, or on icloud.com, where you can see your contacts, calendars, etc.

  • Does the icloud use my internet connection when backing up?

does the icloud use my internet connection when backing up?

Yes, either 3G or wifi, depending on the connection available.

  • HT4859 I backed up my photos using the iCloud. I have picture in a private file. The pictures seem to be there buy I can't see them why is that?

I backed up my phone using iCloud's. I backed up everything I had however the pictures I had in a private folder I can't view them. They are in the file so it says but I can't see anything when I try to click on them. Are all the pictures lost or is there a way to view them?

I am assuming if I delete from stream they will no longer be accessible on my icloud?
That's right. If you delete from My Photo Stream or the Shared Streams, the photos will be deleted from iCloud.
Download the photos from the Photo Stream to your PC, if you did not already import them when you imported the Camera Roll photos.
Deleting photos from the Camera Roll is tedious. If you have iPhoto on your iPhone, you can select a range of photos from the camera roll and delete multiple photos at once.
The easiest way to delete all photos in the Camera Roll at once would be to connect the iPhone to a USB port and to download all photos. You should be prompted to delete all imported photos from the device.

  • I lost my phone had everything backed up on icloud.got my new phone, went to retrieve my photos but it duplicated a certain amount therefore used the free 5 gb of data. purchased 16gb then but cant see my old photos or old iphone on icloud account

I lost my phone had everything backed up on icloud.
got my new phone, went to retrieve my photos but it duplicated a certain amount therefore used the free 5 gb of data. purchased 16gb then but cant see my old photos or old iphone details  on icloud account. it only shows the certain amount that duplicated but no old phone details or old photos.
    gutted all travelling photos

If you have a backup of your old phone, the backup should include your camera roll photos.  Restoring the backup should recover them.  This explains how to restore an iCloud backup: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

  • I cant use my ipad..it says can't back up to icloud without verified email address

Try resetting it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • When you purchase another apple product, which set up do you use? New, back up from iCloud or iTunes?

Which set up do I use when another apple product is purchased? New, back up from iCloud or iTunes?

It depends on if it is a replacement for an older device.   If so, then set-up as new from backup.
If you are using both devices, they can be set up as separate devices, yet sync information through your iCloud account.

  • HT4910 Can you carry on using your iPad whilst it is backing up to iCloud?
