Back-up to TM via Network?

I just installed a Mini to act as network hub. Is there a way to connect my TM drive to the mini and then back up my macbook and MBP to that TM drive the network? Is there any way to avoid having to manually hook my laptops into the drive each time?

so long as all the computers are running 10.5 or 10.6 this is possible. just keep the TM drive plugged into the mini. then mount it via network on the macbook and select it as the TM drive. do the same on the MBP. I suggest you use an ethernet connection for the first backup. doing it wirelessly will take forever. note that remote TM backups are stored differently from directly attached ones. they are stored inside sparse bundles while directly attached ones are stored directly on the drive. therefore don't mix the two kinds of backups.

  • Inkjet 2800 on different windows connected via network

    Hello,
Im using windows 7 Pro, and I can't access a printer which is connected via network on another computer with windows XP.
The problem is that, when I install the printer on windows 7, it works as long it's connected to my computer,
but, when i unplug the printer and reconnect it back to computer with XP, i'm unable to use the priter, although i installed the drivers already.
the printer is shared,i can see it on network, but can't connect to it.
the problem is only with inkjet 2800 printer,
as i use hp Laserjet cp1215 which is on the XP computer, but works fine.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello cesco,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a communication issue when attempting to print on two separate printers at the same time.
This will be a communication issue for sure.  The computer can only send to one printer at a time. You will have to print to one printer, wait for it to finnish the print job and then send it to the other printer.
There is no way that you can print from one computer to two separate printers at the same time.
    Thanks for your time.

I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility? Most of the discussions involve an existing wireless network. I don't have one.

Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

  • Can't connect computers to printer (b210) via network because there are "other networks"

I can't connect computers to printer (b210) via network because there are "other networks matching your network name".  This makes no sense at all. I have several Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, iMac) all with the latest software. The printer works fine when using the USB connection to my iMac. Nothing I do seems to solve this problem (rebooting, re-configuring, etc.). Help.

    Hi Cgold,
If there are other networks matching your network name, then the printer will have issues connecting when you run the wireless setup wizard.
    However, there are other options:
If your router supports 'Wi-Fi Protected Setup' with either a button to push on the router, or a pin to enter, you can choose that connection option under the wireless menu on your printer.
    or
Change the network name that your router is broadcasting within the web page of your router (NOTE-this would force you to re-join all wireless devices back to the new network name you have created).
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • Sun Cluster 3.x connecting to SE3510 via Network Fibre Switch

Sun Cluster 3.x connecting to SE3510 via Network Fibre Switch
    Hi,
Currently the customer have 3 nodes clusters that are connected to the SE3510 via to the Sun StorEdge[TM] Network Fibre Channel Switch(SAN_Box Manager) and running SUN Cluster 3.X with Disk-Set.The customer want to decommised the system but want to access the 3510 data on the NEW system.
Initially, I remove one of the HBA card from one the cluster nodes and insert it into the NEW System and is able to detect the 2 LUNS from the SE3150 but not able to mount the file system. After some checking, I decided follow the steps from SunSolve Info ID:85842 as show below:
    1.Turn off all resources groups
    2.Turn off all device groups
    3.Disable all configured resources
    4.remove all resources
    5.remove all resources groups
    6.metaset s < setname> -C purge
7.boot to non cluster node, boot sx
8.Remove all the reservations from the shared disks
    9.Shutdown all the system
Now, I am not able to see the two luns from the NEW system from the format command.cfgadm al shows as below:
    Ap_Id Type Receptacle Occupant Condition
    C4 fc-fabric connected configured
    Unknown
1.Is it possible to get back the data and mount back accordingly?
2.Any configuration need to done on the SE3150 or the SAN_Manager?

First, you will probably need to change the LUN masking on the SE3510 and probably the zoning on the switches to make the LUN available to another system. You'll have to check the manual for this as I don't have these commands committed to memory!
Once you can see the LUNs on the new machine, you will need to re-create the metaset using the commands that you used to create it on the Sun Cluster. As long as the partitioning hasn't changed from the default, you should get your data back intact. I assume you have a backup if things go wrong?!

  • I hit Forget Network and now cannot get back onto my wireless home network. All of my other computers and iphones are fine.  How do I get the network back?  It shows in my list of networks but when I use the password and try to join it says not connected.

See if the iPad will accept the password after you restart it. It's worth a try.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You could also try a reset as well.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Editing Via Network

    Here's what we envision:
A multiple TB server or array which will allow working via network with all FCP files, including Scratch discs and other elemental parts(music, logos, etc.). I've attempted working directly from our current server but with considerable slowdowns(scrubbing clips, playback, etc.), the dreaded star-wheel of death makes a regular appearance, and just would not be efficient given our daily deadlines.
The big problem is we are stacking local drives to no end and often run into difficulty locating previously edited episodes on each others externals.
We would like to see a consolidated working area where any editor can easily locate and re-edit/re-purpose individual episodes, all the while having a common scratch area. (Note: no two editors are working on the same project at any one time, i.e. avid-style)
    Suggestions?
    Thanks in Advance!
    -dave O'

    EditShare.
    Or XSAN, MetaSAN, SANmp, SANbox...
You need a VIDEO network. A regular old data network will not have what is required to edit streaming video. And yes, these are expensive solutions. EditShare is a big cheaper, and I like the way it does things. VERY Avid like.

  • Backing up to a Lacie network drive.

    Hi,
I am having a problem backing up files to my network Laci Drive. Whether I am doing it through Supper Dupper, Intego Backup Manager, or manually, I get a message along the lines of "One or more items can’t be copied to “Macprobackup” because you don’t have permission to read them. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?" How do I make sure everything is backup up and not just the files which I can read? I don't seem to get this meassge if I am backing up through Time Machine to my filewire drive plugged staright into my machine. Please, any help would be appreiated...It is a new Lacie drive and I just want to throw it out! Thanks, Angie

You can, but they won't replace the files inside the Library. But there's nothing in the world to stop you exporting copies the FAT drive and using them.
You could also convert your Library to a Referenced Library and have the original files on the drive with the library on your internal HD. However I would advise against this for a number of reasons:
    1. If the path to the photos changes for any reason - a file or folder renamed, for instance - iPhoto will lose the photos and it will be a real pain to reconnect these if it happens to more than three or four, because they'll need to be done one by one.
    2. No matter what you do there is no way to access any edited versions of the files.

    TD

  • Playing Flac Converted Files via Network in iTunes

I searched the internet for quite some time, but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem: I cannot play files which I converted from .flac to Apple Lossless .m4a (with dBpoweramp) via network on a diffrent PC with iTunes. Files which iTunes ripped directly from CD to m4a work perfectly fine so I know that the issue must have its origin in the flac converted files. The iTunes which I copied the files into plays all files them fine and streams them to my Airport without errors.
Please tell me if you experienced the same or know of any solution.
    Thanks!

Firstly, playing Flac in iTunes is an altogether different animal than playing them on your iOS device and is something you never asked about. For that you'll need to Google "Fluke FLAC" if you're still running Lion or older. If you're running a newer Mac OS I haven't yet heard of a solution for playing FLAC in iTunes and you'll have to resort to a third party app like Vox.
For most FLAC playing iOS apps you'll add your music files via the "file sharing" section at the bottom of your Apps tab in iTunes when your iPod touch is plugged in.
As for Flac Player specifically the high price coupled with some reported problems I heard when looking into it had me steering clear so I can't offer first hand reports on THAT program.
Since it sounds like you've been longing to play FLAC on your iPod touch for quite some time I was simply offering a bevvy of options to do just that I know of, including some free ones.
Hopefully someone will stumble across this thread and chime in with feedback about THAT app specifically for you.

Email on my iphone wasn't updating so I deleted the acct. Iphone won't verify acct. when I tried to add that acct back. Message says check network connection and that I entered correct info in the "Incoming Mail Server" field.
    Where would I find that?

You are sure that you have entered the correct username and password in the incoming mail section?
As far as using the iPhone with the Mac, I'm not a Mac user, so I cannot say. I do know that with Windows, the only time the iPhone will appear in Explorer is if there are photos in the Camera Roll. Otherwise you have no other access to the file system.
