Back Up without ITunes

I'm using a new IPod to which I uploaded almost 200 songs with my brother's MAC. I didn't register the IPod because I wanted to do it with my PC when I got home. However, I get a message on my PC that I need to restore the IPOD before connecting to ITunes. I can't register it or add/delete music or anything else. Restoring would delete all my music. Is there another solution or a way to back up all the MP3 files to my hard drive first? I've searched for a backup utility, but they all seem to require ITunes, and I'm unable to connect the IPod to it without restoring it.

I found third party software to save all the MP3 files, and then I restored the iPod. Then I tried to move those saved files into the newly restored iPod. There are several problems. (1) Although all of the files are now in the iunes Library, I'm unable to drag most of them into my iPod because they have Information icons in front of them. I need to navigate to where the files were saved on my hard drive for EACH of them one at a time, find the song title, and associate it with the title in the library. Then I can drag it. This doesn't seem possible to do as a group. (2) I did this once for all of the titles, and then when I opened up iTunes again later, it couldn't find my iPod and I had to restore it all over again. I haven't yet associated each of the files again. (3) I still haven't gotten any message for a way to register the iPod.
So my questions now are: Is there a simpler way to move these files from the music library to my iPod in iTunes? How do I register this product? And perhaps most essential, are you saying that if I find someone else with a MAC, I can somehow do this more easily? If I hook up to a MAC, how will that help me get this formatted for my PC? Hopefully, there will be a solution by tomorrow, or I'll have more energy to go through this. Right now I have to take a break. Thanks to anyone who can offer a solution.

Just copy Users/yourusername/Music/iTunes (containing your library-files) to your external drive as well as that (extaernal) folder that contains all your audio-tracks.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I have a problem, I have some old podcast which I like to keep on my harddrive. Then I got the ipod, so I want to store the podcast episodes there. But dragging direct from Finder to ipod show me it copied but didn't appear under podcast. I found out after a few trial and error that I should have added the podcast to iTunes before dragging into ipod. So...
Good : Finder -> iTunes Podcast -> iPod
Bad : Finder -> iPod
So now those files I drag direct from finder into ipod are in the ipod but I can't get rid of them, cause they don't show up in the iTunes list. It shows up in Senuti and iPodDisk, but both don't allow me to delete the song. Now I can't drag those podcast episodes in to ipod from iTunes podcast anymore. It somehow recognise that the file exist on the ipod but wouldn't list it on the podcast.
So, back to the question, How to delete tune without iTunes?? thanks

Did you try using the Finder? I'm trying to accomplish similar management tasks. Finder seems far superior to itune management, for podcasts management. This might work-- First quit itunes.
Use a finder window, not spotlight, search itunes and single-click on any folder by that name. Notice which of these files is in your startup disc (in case you have other bootable drives connected)-- Notice the little icons on the bottom of the Finder window. Double click on "iTunes Music" at the window bottom. A new Finder window should open. I recomend the list mode, selectable at the top left of Finder window. Now you should be able to view all your itune- contents on the computer. It seems these files can be deleted, but one must remeber to empty trash before going further. Unfortunately this approach won't allow adding new folders that will show up in itunes.

Just so you know, once the code has been put in incorrectly many times, to prevent unauthorized access, the phone will lock itself up and can only be restored by erasing the information and setting the phone back up. If there is a back up on iTunes it will restore everything back to the phone, but keep in mind this will also restore the old lock code used as well. So it's either erase everything and set it up as new, or erase everything and restore with the old lock code.
Being an account manager gives you access to the Verizon Wireless account to make plan changes or upgrade phones, not gain access into information on a device. The information on a device is always considered private and we wouldn't even have access to it in any way, shape, or form.

Hi, I have bought a new iphone 4s and want to give my old iphone 3gs to my wife. She has a sim card on the same network so she can put the sim in and use it straightaway but all of my data and apps stay on there. You will find a list of your iDevice Backups there:
Edit (Control+,) - Preferences - Devices
Delete the Backups you don't need anymore, but if you delete all Backups you can't restore your iPhone.

My itunes said I needed an update, I unplugged the ipod touch and reset everything. When "connect to itunes" showed on the screen, I plugged it back in and Itunes no longer recognizes it. I tried 4 usb cables, 4 different computers, all new itunes

I've gone through all the troubleshooting of restarting computers & itunes and updating itunes. Trying to put in to DFU mode. I've tried everything. iTunes just doesnt recognize this ipod. I have multiple ipods/iphones, and everything else works. I am eliminating the people who are saying it's a broken pin, that cannot be it, because immediately before that moment, it was connected, everything on my ipod was listed in iTunes. It just promted me to update to 6.0.1 (or whatever the most recent is) I also seen a lot of issues posted on the web of people who had jailbroken phones. This ipod touch is standard, there were no jailbreaks or anything used ever.
There was a program called Wondershare Dr.Fone, which is said to be a photo recovery tool for ipods, to retrieve recently deleted photos. (Guess I shouldn't have been trying to do that) I downloaded this trial and when it opened it stated that Itunes and this could not run at the same time. It shut down iTunes automatically. At that point, I didn't do anything more with the Wondershare Dr. Fone, I didn't try to run the program or anything. iTunes prompted me that the device needed to be upgraded to 6.0.1. I had an option to download or download and install the updated 6.0.1 from Itunes. I clicked on download only. So iTunes was downloading the new version from my iPod Touch. I shut it down the Wondershare Dr. Fone, unplugged the iphone from itunes/computer, went in to settings and did a master reset. I plugged the device back in to the computer when the iTunes logo and usb came on the screen, and the computer/iTunes doesn't recognize it anymore. I've tried 4 different usb cables and four different comuters all with up to date iTunes software. I did not break the port either, nothing is inside the port, or blocking it in anyway. All 4 computers and usb cables connected fine to other ipods and iphones.
So the questions are:
How can I get my ipod out of restore mode (iTunes logo and usb cord sybol) without iTunes recognizing it?
What could I have possibly done to this ipod?
Why doesn't anyone have the answer anywhere on the internet?
(Note: Even if the Ipod is placed in DFU mode, iTunes does not recognize it)

I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

If you plug in the iPhone to your computer, any contacts ect that you synced with your computer with sync back with the iPhone when it is selected in the iTunes menu under info. Anything that was added without syncing was lost, I'm sorry. A good future solution is to get iOS 5 when it comes out this fall, so you don't need to manually sync contacts, its automatic!

This is a problem I've had before too, but it's fairly easy to fix without even using iTunes:
Make sure in the folders options on your computer, you are able to view hidden files and folders.
Then, go into your iPod with my Computer>iPod control>music. There will be folders called F00, F01, F02 etc. In them will be the music on your iPod (in mp3 or aac format). The file names will be weird, like DGFB or HRRE or whatever, but iTunes or Windows Media Player (if you have Windows 7) will recognise the media info.
Basically, just copy the files out of the folders and back onto your computer and put them into iTunes like you normally do.
If you do this right it will work because I have done this before when my computer got a really bad virus and I had to reset it, as I couldn't even log on properly.

When you made the backup, you may have told it to encrypt the backup so that you can recover iPhone to factory settings successfully.

Therefore I used the normal iTunes backup and restore found under the Summary tab in iTunes. If your data is still on the other phone, back it up again with iTunes. To use iTunes you have to start it, connect your phone to the computer with a cable, then select the iPhone button near the top right corner of the screen. Be sure not to check the encrypt button.
