Back volume too small after permissions repair

Obviously 220 Gigs of data have been modified, only 75 are free on my external h.d.
Can I avoid deleting all older backups and start again from the scratch?
Thank you!
Peter

The list of files or folders you can exclude depends upon how you do backups.
Are you depending on Time Machine as your only backup? If so, then the list is pretty short. The downloads folder comes to mind, and any folder you are using to store files temporarily for sorting. I've got a couple of folders for DVD's that I'm working on. I don't let them get copied to TM. If you are running Parallels you should probably exclude the VM folders from TM because they will get added as new copies everytime you use Windows.

  • Volume too Small for Versions?

Anyone else see this message yet:
The document “mydocument.numbers” is on a volume that is too small to support permanent version storage.
The volume in question is a 100MB disk image with 93MB free space remaining. My Numbers file is 200KB.  Seems to me there is plenty of space. I could store nearly 500 full versions in that amount of space.

I had the same problem re disc image size and previous versions. After lots of experimentation, I found that if you create the disk image( sparse or otherwise, encrypted or otherwise) with a size of 600MB or bigger then this problem seems to go away.

  • Dump roll back segment too small

    Hii All,
From last week i am getting this dump in my production system.
Database error text........: "ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment
    number 20 with name "PRS_18" too small#"
    Internal call code.........: "[RSQL/FTCH/MKPF ]"
What should i do to avoid this dump.
    Regards,
    Viren.

    HI Rana,
When you have "ora-01555: snapshot too old (rollback segment _ too small)", it usually means failure due to the lack of rollback space. The failure indicates read consistency error, as your active transaction overwrites existing, uncommitted transaction, which implies that the system change number SCN in the block is newer than the SCN at the start of the transaction. The read consistency image of new data can therefore not be created. This can happen when large transactions are being written where there is not enough tablespace for the rollback segments to expand or when the rbs has reached its "MAXEXTENTS".
Solution is to either add new roll back segment or extend the size of the existing ones.To extend the size of existing ones, increase both the values of their MINEXTENTS and OPTIMAL parameters with ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT statement or create additional ones.
    Thanks

To set the undo retention period:
    Do one of the following:
    • Set UNDO_RETENTION in the initialization parameter file.
    UNDO_RETENTION = 1800
    • Change UNDO_RETENTION at any time using the ALTER SYSTEM statement:
    ALTER SYSTEM SET UNDO_RETENTION = 2400;
The effect of an UNDO_RETENTION parameter change is immediate, but it can only be honored if the current undo tablespace has enough space.

  • Backup Volume too Small

I am seeing the following message. Any hints as to what is going on?
The backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 1011.1 GB but only 466.2 GB are available. To select a larger volume, or make the backup smaller by excluding files, open System Preferences and choose Time Machine.
My Hard Drive that I want to backup is only a 500GB HD, so what in the world could this mean? The destination disk is also a 500GB HD. My Mac HD is only using about 300GB of the available disk.

I'm getting this error as well.
Here is how I got into that situation, maybe it will yield a clue.
I have a 750GB Time Machine volume and was backing up a 500GB disk of which 300GB were used`. That disk needed to be replaced and so I replaced it with a 750GB disk. I copied the 300GB from the 500GB disk to the 750GB. Then I marked the 500GB as not backed up in Time Machine preferences. Now Time Machine will not backup the 300GB that are on the new 750GB.
I think what is going wrong is that Time Machine thinks of the 300GB as a different 300GB and consequently is trying to preserve the old disk's version of the 300GB and refusing to backup the new version of the data on the new disk.
does anyone have any ideas how to get out of it.

  • Printer output incorrect/too small after upgrading to VS 2010 Crystal

I have a Windows Form application that was originally written using .net 3.5 and the version of Crystal Reports that came with Visual Studio 2008. When the VS 2010 release of Crystal Reports came out, I upgraded the application to .net 4/VS 2010 and the new Crystal release.
This application prints checks on blank check stock, so alignment of the output has to be very exact to print the checks correctly. It prints the reports using the PrintToPrinter() method of the ReportDocument class.
In the original version of the program, I had everything aligned correctly in the check report. After updating the application to the latest Crystal release, but making no changes to the report itself, I noticed that the alignment of the checks report was incorrect.
After comparing the output, I was able to determine that the new output is slightly shrunk compared to old output, almost as if it is scaling the report in some way.
I opened the report in the new report designer and verified that all page size and margin settings were correct/the same as before, and they were. The printed output is smaller than it should be based on how the report is designed. I tried adjusted the paper size, and also tried the "Dissociate Formatting Page Size and Printer Paper Size" to see if I could somehow adjust for the scaling, but nothing I tried was successful.
Our check printer is a HP LaserJet 5Si. During my investigation into the problem I discovered that if I printed the report to a pdf printer (PDFCreator) the resulting pdf did not have the same scaling/shrinking problem that I get when the report is sent directly to the LaserJet. I also printed a page from the pdf to the LaserJet using Acrobat Reader, and the output was as I expected it to be.
I only seem to be seeing the scaling/shrinking problem when I send the report directly to the LaserJet. Is there some new setting that I'm overlooking that would be applying some sort of report-wide scaling? Any other ideas as to why this is happening?

  • Flash size changes to be too small after published

    Hi there,
I have been using captivate for a while and this is my first time to have this problem.
After I publish and upload it to Sumtotal, the window looks good but the flash player is very small.
I set the project as 750x520 which I usually did.
I also changed the html to SWFObjective "100%""100%"
    Anyone knows what's the problem?
    Thank you so much!!!
    Wish all a great weekend!!

Whether I mess the code in Html or not, the flash is small always, taking up 1/4 of the window size only.

  • Wiki editing area too small after template customization

We have been working with a web developer for the last 2 months and he has
customized our wiki layout and provided the ability to order links manually
and to create static navigation links on the page menu using Javascript.
We are left with one bug we cannot fix:
When we go to edit a page in one of the wiki groups, the edit box sizes to a
maximum of about 200 pixels or 10 lines high and not the vertical height of
the entire content area as it does in the built in apple templates. This
makes editing text content difficult. Our developer thinks that the wiki is
looking for the div containers of the page to be in a specific order (which
we have changed in the customization) to set the height of the edit field.
We would like to know where we can get information on correcting this issue
so that the edit field fills the entire area when content or coding is being
    changed?
Is there a file we can adjust or other method? CSS edits have not been
    successful.

That is a great way to contribute.   I have never donated any money either.
    +1
I think some of the "guilt" (stronger word than I really wanted) came from the fact that I couldn't donate as much time as I would have liked. Hopefully that will change more in the future, but either way it's all good, whatever you can donate. If everyone donated money and no time, that might be just as bad as everyone donating time and no money. I think the important thing is to contribute however you can so we can give back to this great distro and help to ensure it always keeps going.

The new update has screwed up my browser settings, I cannot get them fixed and Im pissed because my computer is an eye-sore to read until this is fixed! EVERYTHING in the browser is smaller, fonts, menus, icons, web page content, pictures, tables, etc. I have set the minimum font in the settings and the text is just to a point where it is easily readable at the maximum size setting, but all the menus and icons are still tiny and hard to read. The last version I had installed worked fine with no add-ons needed. Everything fit the screen fine and was easily readable without modification. I want this version off my PC and I want the last version I had back on but I dont know what version it was!!!!!!! ARARGGGG

I tried to do a system install, but message said…disk can't be changed. Will a complete erase and install fix this ?
    Everything is backed-up.

    There's hardware and software.
Your drive could physically be in good condition but something has caused the file structure to be messed up (it just happens sometimes).  The directory that keep track of files is corrupt.  Disk Utility can help determine if that is the issue.  In some cases it can repair the problem but it cannot do it to a drive that is being used to boot the system while you are doing that.  You have to boot from another drive.  Some things DU cannot repair and you need to try a stronger utility such as Diskwarrior.
A failing hard drive (one with mechanical issues) can be a cause of file structure issues but this is by no means always the case.  Apart from looking at the SMART diagnosis feature of Disk Utility (and smart isn't totally reliable) there often isn't a way to tell if a drive is failing until it suddenly happens, which is why you need to maintain backups.
In your situation it does sound serious and not just minor directory corruption.  You can try erasing (formatting) the drive,  You may need to do this if it is really corrupt, in which case there could be underlying physical issues.  I use old technology but if you have the patience you can try erasing the drive with the security option of writing zeros once (don't do more unless you are going on a 3 week vacation).  This makes the drive not simply assume everything is okay by forcing it try every part of the drive by writing data.  If something is gong wrong you may find it marks a lot of bad sectors, or flat out refuses to format.  Then you know you need a new drive.

  • Time Machine falsely says my disk volume is too small

I have several Fusion VMs which I am excluding from TM backup. But when I select "Change Disk..." in TM, it tells me that the disk I wish to use is too small. When, in fact, it is about 4 times larger than the data I wish to back up. It seems to be using the entire contents of my main volume (including the excluded Fusion VMs) when calculating the required size of the new TM target disk. Is this a TM bug? Is there a work around?
