Backbase: Amazing rich interfaces

Came across this small European company called Backbase
http://www.backbase.com
in a popular industry rag
http://www.infoworld.com/article/05/08/08/32TCback_1.html
The demos on their website are very very slick. No page refreshes, very continuous, responsive feel, slow fade-ins/fade-outs of panels, very nice.
I see most of these features already implemented in the Query Builder in 2.0 so I know the HTML DB team is already on the cutting edge of this stuff.
[Unfortunately, they have invented their own proprietary language to build the stuff in, its mixture of XML, HTML with added tags. etc]
Cant wait for the promised howtos and documentation on all the new features in 2.0.
Thanks

All Backbase demos can be created with DHTML and CSS because the are DHTML and CSS. We've just simplified DHTML development by introducing an abstraction layer, and introducing our own declarative language: BXML.
Yes, BXML is unique to our company (proprietary), but that is precisely the strong point of the product. For developers it's extremely difficult and time-consuming to create attractive cross-browser web interfaces with JavaScript. So developers benefit from a simplified language that is guaranteed to work across all browsers. BXML is fully XML compatible, it supports client-side XPath and XSLT, so we use standards whenever we can. But where no suitable standard is available, there is no other option that to create one ourselves and align with a major standards initiative when possible.
I'm interested to hear your feedback. Are there suitable alternative technologies? What is Oracle's take? The Backbase Community Edition is a free download, so you can give it a try: http://www.backbase.com/download

  • RICH INTERFACE

Does anyone know why the "rich interface" fo viewing e-mail doesn't work on mac? It works on my PC, but it doesn't recognize it on my MAC, even when I go to Safari>>Preferences>>Develop>>and selesct IE 7.0.
    Thanks!

There's 2 known issues concerning MacOSX and vz webmail that I am aware of:
    1. The Safari web browser on Apple computers is unable to access the Rich Text Formatting option when composing, replying to or forwarding messages. (Other browsers, such as Firefox, do work)
    2. If you're using Safari on MacOSX 10.3.9 or earlier, the content of e-mails is not displayed. Upon hitting reply, the message is populated as a reply quote in the new e-mail.
What specifically is happening with yours? (Screenshots would be clutch)
Are your security settings prohibiting external scripts to be ran on websites?
    Edits: I have horrible grammar.

  • Anyone else annoyed by the seriously slow interface (not internet)

I've had an iphone since it first came out, and ever since version 2.0 came out, it's been really hard to deal with some of the amazingly slow interface problems it has now. I got the 3g about a month after it first came out, so I'm using that one now.
My problem is that nearly every application takes at least 5 seconds to load. + or - about 2 seconds, sometimes up to 10. That's a really really long time for an application to boot up. It even does that on the phone and text message applications.
Even worse is the time it takes to load up the search bar on apps google maps or youtube. Once I've already waited 5 seconds for it to load up, I press the search and have to wait ANOTHER 5 seconds for the keyboard to load up. Even better is I'm not sure I actually pressed it right so sometimes I'll press it again and then the bookmarks will come up when it finally loads....blah. Not to mention even more lag as I try to type. I've tested some of my friend's iphones and they're about as slow as mine, maybe a little faster, but still slow enough to be a pain. Anyone else having problems like this? Or does it just not bother you?
I've messed with my friends' blackberry phones and I feel like the turtle on those comcast commercials. I press facebook and it's right there...immediately...and I freak out. I show anyone my iphone now and they lose interest before it loads!
Also, any pointers to speed it up? I know I have a couple pages of applications, so I'm sure if I deleted every app it may go a lot faster, but that doesn't sound like a good solution. I'm also wondering why it's going so slow in the first place. Back in the days of 1.x I had no trouble loading stuff up. Now I'm embarassed to try to show people things on my phone because I press the application and have to practically start another conversation before I can show what I want to show.
Well there's my rant, I hope 2.2 does a lot of optimizations, because that's the only gripe I have about my phone right now, I can live with some things not existing.

Just found this post and would like to contribute. My 3G iPhone is very slow and always has been since I bought it last summer. I've been through all the updates that have been issued and now on 2.2 there is no difference.
In contacts when I press an alphabetical key absolutely nothing happens for 6-7 seconds. When typing an SMS the first letter pressed genies up large and stays like that for 7-8 seconds before it will genie back down and allow me to type the next character. E-mail does the same but sticks on the first character for only 3-4 seconds, wow I'm lucky here then.
I have Mobile Me and this definitely contributes to the problem, ie with Mobile Me not engaged this awful problem of lag is not there. I booked an appointment at an Apple store in the Genius Bar to show them the problem but their Genius decided it was all due to me having too many contacts, 1885 that I should expect this behaviour and I just had to live with it !
Not what I was expecting, appalling service and it just came across that he was making it up as he went along. I'd say this is a major problem for Apple and they have directed their staff not to replace the handsets as they know full well what the problem is and a new handset won't cure it.
Wish they'd rectify this problem properly as it's really spoiling the user experience, slowing down my work and is totally embarrassing to show what should be a cutting edge device to others.

  • Actiontech Gen2 - better interface?

I do a lot of port forwarding through my current Actiontech router. I must say the interface is really difficult to use and manage. For example, there is no way to edit an existing rule - you must delete and re-add. Also, it inexplicably combines some rules by IP, but not always all. I am running the latest firmware. I have enjoyed much more intuitive and feature rich interfaces with other routers before this - but had to install this one when FIOS was installed. Is the Gen2 router any different? Or must I install a switch after the router and do it there?

    I have a Actiontech MI424-WR Rev D router - provided by Verizon.
    Firmware is 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.14.4.
Judging by my symptoms it looks like they did arbitrarily remove this option because I know I had it in the past.  However, I don't think I would go as far as to go backwards in the firmware for fear of introducing another issue.  While this is annoying, it is not the end of the world.
In general this port forwarding interface is very poor.  I posted a message directly with Actiontech support - perhaps they will address it in a future version.  Or I could call Verizon and see if I can get a new router?  However, it appears that I might get the same router back?

We have released the Oracle Forms 10g demos which are now available on OTN.

Please let us know if you have any comments.

    Forms Product Management

Oracle Forms is quit impressive as both a client/server and web-based solution. I have yet to see an application run over the web the way Oracle Forms does. It appears as a client/server application, except it's completely web-based.
That's quite amazing, however, I have found that the rich interface and the sophistication of running Forms over the web comes with a big cost. The 8MB Jinitiator download turns a lot of people off.
What I'm really wondering is if there is anyone out there who is using Oracle Forms as a web solution ?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Jabber Client Discrepancies

    Hi Everyone,
I just finished rolling out Jabber to over 150 users for a Cisco Gold Partner ( internally we wanted to deploy and have "lessons learned" before rolling to customers ).  We are all pretty much "power users" and we rolled it out to users on Mac, PC, iPad, Android Tablet, and Android/iPhones.  Here is my list of "cough" features that are desparite between the varous clients and I would greatly appreciate anyone from the BU or Cisco to chime in on when these clients will be uniform.  I had to open 2 TAC cases already ( # 625139231 and 624998053 ) which were esclated to the Developers and I have had ZERO response.
I think it's an awesome product, we are already pitching it to customers with heavy emphasis on Video on Tablets/BYOD.  However, as a CCIE Voice Architect I cannot look a business owner in their face and tell them that MS Lync doesn't have a nicer/feature rich interface and ALL of their features work on all devices.
Here is what I have issues with:
    1.  Windows Client 9.1.3 latest rev - Google Calendar integration - once you have authenticated once to google for your calendar you CANNOT remove the calendar and join a differnet calendar.  Come on, this is easy coding to fix!  We are a Google Apps shop, migrated off exchange three years ago.  Right now, if a user wants to use different GMAIL Accounts they cannot.  No one at Cisco TAC can tell me where the settings are cached for this.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled, removed registry entries, deleted the Unified Communications folder under app user, everything to try to fix this.
    2.  Biggest complaint we have right now is MAC doesn't have Video, I know this is coming in the next release, but if there is anything we can do to speed this along it would be greatly appreciated from the field.
    3.  Why is the "screen clipping" tool available on Windows but not MAC?  We have users who LOVE that tool on Windows, no where to be seen on MACs
    4.  Multiple Line support - we have users who had multiple lines configured just fine on CUPC, this should have been included in the Jabber client in my opinion.
    5.  The "Call" button is in two differnet locations on the MAC client vs Windows client, it's very aggrevating to train 100+ people on two differnent locations for the same feature.
    6.  Added Contacts - on the Windows and MAC client, if you add a contact, there is NO way to edit their information.  That needs to be there NOW, we cannot add or edit directory/external phone numbers to contacts we add to the directory.
    7.  No way for Admins to update/delete contacts from users - this is perhaps the most annoying thing.  We as admins can "BAT" 100+ users into the system, but then what?!?!  When a new hire comes on board we have to update all 100 BAT files again.  To make things worse, you can pull up an end users account in CUIP but cannot remove old contacts from their list.  In addition, if you try to BAT over top of an already imported buddy list it creates duplicates.  I would settle for a SQL QUERY I could run via command line "ie run sql update buddy list set..." or something.  This is becoming very frustrating to maintain.
    8.  Jabber does not play very well with Cisco WebEx One Click.  My Windows Jabber client crashes every time and I have to reinstall it.
If someone from the BU or Dev teams could take a look at this list and respond I would GREATLY appreciate it.  I don't mean to blow this out of proportion but like I said, I have lived this product for the last three weeks and I think it's great, just needs some polish!
    Thanks!

I have created a document with the information that you are looking for.
Cisco Jabber for Windows - Google Calendar Integration
    8.  Jabber does not play very well with Cisco WebEx One Click.  My  Windows Jabber client crashes every time and I have to reinstall it.
This will be fixed in the upcoming 9.2 release (expected in April - no release date available yet)

  • Oracle BPM with Liferay integration

    Dear Oracle BPM experts,
my organization is considering to introduce Oracle BPM Suite 11g for its internal workflows.
However existing and and new internal application will be implemented over the open source Liferay portal. Liferay is currently running over Apache Tomcat.
Do you know if Oracle BPM can integrate with non-Oracle portal servers, especially Liferay?
My organization is very keen on migrating to an application server like Weblogic but not to migrating to another portal server (e.g. Webcenter) at the moment.
In the case where you even know any customers/projects where a Liferay + Oracle BPM integration has been accomplished, I would be grateful to know them.

    Hi
Its been a while I have not worked on Liferay portal in the last 4 years. Oracle SOA/BPM is not supported and mostly cannot be installed on Tomcat App server. BUT Liferay Portal can be installed on top of Weblogic Server. So you can always have a single application server like Weblogic Server to install your own Liferay and also Oracle SOA Suite.
Coming to integration, there could be many ways, that you had to explore:
    1. Oracle SOA Suite has very rich interface APIs to access the Tasks. By default it has a web application like http://soahost:soaport/bpm/workspace that users login into and see all the Tasks that they are assigned to. In your Liferay Portal, have a IFrame Portlet and use the above URL. you may have to tweak for Single Sign on. But otherwise you can always show workpace app in liferay portlet.
    2. Oracle SOA Suite has very rich APIs to access all the stuff for any Task. Like get list of Tasks, and task details and act on those tasks. Its like building your own custom Workspace application for Tasks. Some customers do this. Do this on your Liferay side. Only thing, is there may be some clash between some generic JRF, WebServices APIs and Versions. Like Liferay may need some specific version and soa may need some specific version. Also you need some Oracle SOA suite JARs to include in classpath on liferay side.
    3. Oracle SOA also exposes all Tasks stuff using WebServices and rich REST APIs. Simply build a proxy client on Liferay side to the WebService exposed for a Task. Create a simple UI in liferay portlet to enter all the inputs for input payload and use proxy to create the task.
What you are tying is possible. Refer online docs for all above details and even sample. Just please be aware there may be some clash on common set of jars that liferay and oracle soa suite may step over each other, if you integrate them into single application server. If they exist in their own app severs like liferay+tomcat and oracle soa + weblogic, then you are fine.
    Thanks

  • Embedding ADF page in OAF

    Hi,
We have a requirement where we have to call ADF page as a region in OAF page.
We are able to deploy ADF application on Web logic server and call them as a standalone application in OAF using "Function and Menu".
Also, I understand that ADF and OAF interaction back and forth is not possible. ATG seems to be working on this for handling session management.
However, I need to understand if there is any mechanism by which ADF pages can be embedded in OAF page as a region and work as a region in Oracle Ebiz Suite OAF pages?
It seems that OAF Rich Interface allows embedding ADF pages in OAF.
    Appreciate some guidance on this.

    Hi YJ,
Yes, we (ATG) are still working on session management between OA Framework and Oracle ADF, as well as other features of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java. Stay tuned for an announcement on Steven Chan's blog at https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan when that becomes available. My Oracle Support Note 974949.1 will be updated with further information at that time.
Embedding an Oracle ADF region in an OA Framework page requires, at a minimum, that you create an EBS function security function for your ADF page and add a richContainer item to your OA Framework page that calls the function. You may need session management features depending on what you are trying to do with it. We haven't worked out all the nuances yet for more specific guidelines, sorry.
    Thanks,
    Sara
(PS--I posted this in the OA Framework forum too)

  • About E52

Dear all E52 users i need a quick response from u guys that what u consider Nokia E52 ??? Should i purchase that phone?? ( from my pocket money which i dont want to loose) i seen some thresds about its signal reception problem which is said that its has been solved in newest firmware. and my second question is that is Nokia E52 is being sold in Graphite grey color or not yet also if any user do have in graphite grey please tell me because according to my location and region Middle east ( Saudi Arabia) its yet not available in graphite grey. i shall be gratful and thankful for Nokia E52 Users..
    Regards Superb

I have this phone for about a week now and i must say i like it so far. The battery life is amazing, the interface is really snappy and it has all the features I need.
One big disadvantage is the stability, better said lack of stability. In the past couple of days the phone crashed several times when using applications like the camera or ngage games. Sometimes even while browsing the web using the integrated browser. Its not a huge problem because the phone reboots very fast and it doesn`t happen when calling or using normal phone functions. Still its pretty annoying and i hope nokia is going to fix this soon with new firmware.
My rating for the phone is 6/10, but if it didn`t have the problems i would give it an 8 at least!

  • Memory notification in Alert Log

I'm seeing the following in my alert log. Does this mean i am running out of SGA memory? if so, How do i increase it?

I've seen this before. Search MetaLink on "Heap size exceeds notification threshold" or "Memory Notification: Library Cache Object loaded into SGA" (both copied straight from your alert log) and see note Note:330239.1
Metalink has an amazingly rich search. I've often found the solution to problems like this simply by copying relevant text from my alert log and pasting it into the MetaLink search field.

  • Why can't I open my file (apology)

OK, as the OP of this now-locked thread I must admit that I am a newb to using the amazingly rich and multifaceted Adobe CS package. I should have remembered that I have CS5.5 on my machine at home and CS5 at the office. That should probably have made me question if opening the .indd file in InDesign CS5.5 and saving it, would bring into question opening it again on the machine on which it was created with CS5.
In my defense, though, many products (Microsoft Word, for example) will warn you when you save a file in a newer release that the file will no longer be useable in the original release.
I don't remember InDesign providing me with such a caution. It may have and I simply clicked through it, but I don't remember.
Regardless, I could have phrased my frustration with less, uh, frustration.
    Thanks for your assistance.

InDesign is a complex, advanced program with little compromise. This is why it is good. Adobe designed InDesign for more advanced users than those for which Microsoft designed Word.
Word processors are a lower level program than professioanl layout publications. By that I mean more people use word processors than layout apps. As a result there is a wider spread of ser experience amoth those using word processors. It is more acceptable that the program hold the users’ hands and warn of potentially inconvenient results. The more general a program, the more users that will jsut start using it without any experience , instruction, or time with the documentation.
If you want to use a program as heavy, powerful, and complex as InDesign without instruction or documentation, you have noone to blame for the results but yourself.

  • Netbeans 6.9 beta

    Hi,
I just installed the netbeans 6.9 beta on my MAC and importing my existing 6.8 workspace. First start up gave an exception (some state exception) but the second time it went OK.
After the class searches in my existing javaFX project:
    1. I got some errors which are not given in the 6.8.
    2. When I take a look in the plugin section I still see it's javaFx 1.2.1
The first point are errors on sun package imports:
    import com.sun.javafx.scene.control.caspian.TextBoxSkin;
    import com.sun.javafx.scene.control.caspian.ButtonSkin;
-> they don't existFor the second point I assumed when installing 6.9 automatically javaFX 1.3 was taken as a plugin but this is not the case. Maybe this must be upgraded manually I don't know.
Anyone did see those errors too ?
    Thanks
    Guy

    hi phil,
Yes they gave us plenty of work with this update for sure.
In my case it's even worse I get a runtime error that I don't have with previous version:
    Unexpected exception caught in MasterTimer.timePulse():
com.sun.javafx.runtime.AssignToBoundException: Cannot assign to bound variableI'm not going into detail on my code ( it's bind on a tile customnode ) but if I run my same source files (ca 10 FX files in my project) build with netbeans 6.8 and javaFx 1.2 they seems to run perfectly.
I use quit some binding in my program so I guess they changed a lot in that area too.
I really don't know if it's a good thing to continue putting further time and effort in this language if I must be honest here. Great promises at Devoxx end 2008 here in Antwerp and now almost 2 years later we get something like that ?
I'd expect a nice update on performance , controls ,... To give just a small example I used some edit boxes and as you know they were very primitive when it came to layout and alignment. Now I checked if they added some alignment into that control but nope they didn't. It seems to be they did for button text tough.
Also releasing mobile 1.3 at the same time was a must have in my opinion because I can write some 1000 lines on that if I want ;-)
I wrote a comment once on a blog of Michael Heinrichs which is in the mobile team I think:
    http://blog.netopyr.com/2009/02/22/best-practices-for-javafx-mobile-applications/
-> the last comment is mine ;-)
The 1 miljon question I have is:
Is HTML5 the future candidate to build nice rich interfaces and replace most of the kind of things like javaFx , Flash , Silverlight ?
    ( Don't give your bankaccount ;-)
