Backed-up Mac Files turn into EXE

Help please!
I am have such a bad time of it here. So many archived files created on my Mac once copied onto my HD (or even showing up in their storage, i.e., old ZIP, or even new LaCie drives) have changed to EXE icons. Can't open them, can't go into the orig. programs to open. Wierdness.
I know an EXE file is Windows and will not work on my Mac if or unless I have Windows loaded. However, just want the files I created but don't know why the Mac OS is converting them to EXE icons!
Any assistance is appreciated as I need to retrieve and use these (some are old PageMaker, FreeHand and PhotoShop files, except for PM which I now have InDesign) all should convert or at least be recognized.

The actual icon doesn't really matter. Somehow your files are getting associated with the wrong type of program.
Get the information for one of the files. Select an appropriate program for opening the file ("open with"). Try opening it. If that works then go back and get the information for the file and this time also select "use this application to open all files of this type).

When smb sharing, files turn into folders

I use Mountain Lion on my 2012 Air. I connect to a hard drive on my wireless router using the SMB protocol. Random files turn into folders.
I don't know if this is a problem with the OS X SMB protocol or my wireless router, which is a Linksys e3500.
Has anyone encountered this problem?

Raw Files turn into 175kb preview files.

I have download my RAW files from my Canon 1DS into Photoshop CS2 using a Lexar card reader.
They download as a full RAW file but when I go to open them in bridge the turn into a 175 kb preview file! The strange thing is I download 5 gbs from 5 different cards but not all of them did it. I found that if I download the images several times they would eventually download as full RAW files. I am using a G5 MAC with loads of memory and processing capacity. Is it the problem that the cards are corrupting, the card reader is faulty, CS2 is somehow corrupt (it is a fully registered copy) or that bridge has some weird glich in it. This problem has only just started as I have been this software for some months now.

Leopard? You aren't doing a command/copy (move) are you? There have been reports that "moves" in Leopard is broken...
Otherwise, try another card reader or cable. This isn't something Bridge would be doing to your files...

Importing WMA files- turn into mpeg 4 files- Help Please!

I've just installed iTunes for the first time, and while converting my WMA files, it has turned them into mpeg4 files. How can i turn them back to mp3 files????

If the "Kind" says "MPEG Audio" then what you have are MP3 files.
The format to which WMAs will be converted is controlled by the setting in Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings > Import Using.

Files turn into alias. Original file vanished

We are experiencing a scary problem on some of our machines. We are using intel macs with 10.6.7.
They were using InDesign CS5 (7.0.3) at the time of the problem. Both machines have been updated to 7.0.4 and have not had the problem since.
However this has been a periodic error the whole time, so its not easy to replicate it...
This problem is as follows.
During working in InDesign it quits unexpectedly and we need to open it again.
When we locate the file (on a windows server connected with smb) it has turned into a shortcut or alias witch points to nothing.
The original file is nowhere to be found. Also, the file has been labeled with the red label from OSX...
We managed to get the log from one of these incidents:

The machinename has been altered. The error occurred 13:04:09.
So far I have not been able to find anyone else with the same error. And in was not mentioned as a fix in the 7.0.4 update we ran.
At this point we do not know when we will loose the next file, and thats not a fun situation...
Has anyone else heard of this error?
At this point even someone else with the problem but no solution would be a comfort..

This is the same error as last time.
This time the customer tried to click on the document in the "Open recent window" and he was able to open it.
Other than that it was the same as the previous times.
We have contacted adobe a few months ago. They had not heard about the problem and seemed to take it serious.
We have however not heard anything after the case was opened..

Need to download backed up mac files to PC

My Macbook Pro is dead. Needs a new logic board so I have no access. I did back up my files on a Mac formatted passport portable hard drive with Time Machine. Heres my problem, everything is on there. I cant even sync my Iphone cause my Itunes is on there. I also dont have another Mac computer only a PC at home. When I plug the passport into my PC nothing appears since its Mac formatted. Is there anyway to retrieve these files or software I can install on my PC so I can retrieve these files?

My files turned into an exec files

why my files that are in my flash disk turned into an exec files? there's also .ink behind it. one of my friends, copied one of my files and her laptop is not a mac while in the school. and when I got home, i was going to check some files that one of my teacher gave me yesterday (this is the one that my friends copied too) and it turned out to be an exec files. and i can't barely open it. my flash disk is also new, and my first files is the one that the teacher gave me. I wonder what is happened. Can anyone help me? Thanks

How is it possible, that a pdf file turns into a psd file while sending with mail

I have send a pdf file as attachment with mail. the file shows correctly as pdf file. but when the file arrived at the addressed location it turned into a psd file. in addition it seems there is a problem sending png and ai files. once those files have arrived through mail I am getting the feedback, that the files are are not scalable, they are fuzzy or completely messed up.
has anyone an idea, where the problem comes from?

ID CS3 : the 101 buttons bug - PDF file turning into a form

Hi there,
I'm just mentionning this issue with a clear title (I had mentioned it in another thread but with a wrong topic name, since I hadn't found out the bug).
When working in inDesign CS3, there's a slight but annoying issue with interactive PDF buttons. As soon as your file reaches 101 buttons, the PDF document exported is considered as a form instead of a standard document (no matter if the buttons are present on the master pages, on the same pages or through the document).
I've managed to find a workaround myself, and I found another one on these forums, but no real solution. Here they are:
Workaround #1 (http://http://forums.adobe.com/message/2177707#2177707) :
Instead of creating my controls in the master page (which caused the file to have more than 100 buttons), I created them (only once) in the first page they appeared in. Then, in Acrobat Pro, I just selected them and used the "duplicate" command.
There are two benefits when using this solution:
your PDF document won't turn into a form (which can be a real problem if you don't want to confuse the document users).
your PDF file will be lighter. Indeed, when creating a button in inDesign (even if you create it on the master page) the exported PDF document won't contain X occurences of the same button, but X different buttons (which can incread the size of your document dramaticaly when it reaches a large amount of pages).
Yet, if your document reaches 101 buttons on the solemn content, the bug will trigger anyway.
Workaround #2 (http://http://forums.adobe.com/message/1322652#1322652) :
After having exported your PDF file, lock it against editing (through the password protection system). Your document will still be considered as a form, but the annoying purple box won't pop any longer when you open the file.
This solution is quite simpler, but it still is a workaround to the issue, not a solution.
Well, I hope those workarounds will help someone, but if someone had a *real* solution to it, that would be great.

Ai file turned into DXF doesnt transfer correctly when opened in CAM software.

Hi please can anyone help. I am trying to create a DXF which can be used with CAM software. The file looks fine in Ai and even CAD software but loses all definition, turning into a black blob, when opened in CAM software. There are shapes within the outline which need cutting out and the DXF file shows intersections where these are. Are these intersections part of the problem? Thank you very much!

How to advoid Pdf attached files turning into winmail.dat file causing incovinience opening them? And why does the phone automatically changes the file???

The first time i opened the mail, the mail loaded the attactment as pdf file and i was able to open it without any problems. But then when i tried to open it again, i watched the phone automatically turned the pdf file into winmail.dat without any of my control. Since then, i werent able to open the file anymore! And this was lucky that i was able to see it as pdf file - all other attachments i have recieved since using my new ip6 all turn into winmail.dat
this is really incovinient and frustrating for work. i cant believe i cannot just open a pdf file as a pdf file on my ip6 in the emails i recieve. I was on ip4 before this and never have anything like this happened.
Solution needed asap please.

Audio files turned into white noise

I just opened a couple of session I kept on my firewire audio drive and for some reason some of the audio files have been turned into white noise and obviously rendered unusable. Has this ever happened to anyone? If so can you do anything to sort it out?
Some of those where really important so I would really appreciate if someone had a solution.

My Folders turned into exe files

Hi everybody,
I don't know what happened to my Mac today, i assumed it's a virus but the strange here is that virus is only affect Windows OS. The story is, I have a friend, she borrowed my camera, as she returned it, i was on boot camp and was using Windows for gaminng, i plugged my camera and delete photos that my friend has taken. I noticed nothing strange and i didn't have any Anti-virus program on Windows. Until i login to my Mac, i see all of the folders on my Macintosh HD drive is now exe files. I can still access these folders by using the "Go" option on the Menu Bar. I downloaded Kaspersky and scan for viruses, it showed that the drive is infected with Worm.Win32.Autorun.gvy. If i try to delete the file, it also delete the whole Folder which causes my Mac to crash and need to restart.

For your question, Yes, i did install MacDrive when i was using Boot Camp and i regretted it. The problem here is there isn't a way to fix this virus for Mac OS. I think i will try using Boot camp and scan for viruses with Windows Programs then.
@Radiation Mac: This is about Mac Lion, the drive here is Macintosh HD which is the root drive of a Mac and these files as you can see are the folders of a normal Mac.

Text turns into exe?

A coworker of mine said she was having issues that when making a text file, when she saves it to the desktop, all is normal. But then if she transfers it to her external hard drive, she says that it turns it into a exe file of a substantially larger size.
What could that be?
