Background audio disappears when an interaction slide appears

I have a (Captivate 6 produced) project which includes approx 40 slides and it looks to be running smoothly when published.
However, I have imported a background music audio track which I want to play (and then loop) during the course of the whole course - however, whenever it reaches a slide which has an interaction on it, the music disappears and then returns when a non-interaction-based slide is reached. Disappears again when the next slide is reached that contains an interaction, etc.
I am unable to test in earlier versions of Captivate and so I am wondering whether this is an issue with this version of the program i.e. background audio disappears when an interaction slide is shown?

We don't have the 6.1 update yet, but I did find a workaround for this (although it's not perfect). With Captivate 6 there is now a "Play Audio" action that you can assign to the Slide Properties "On Enter" action. When I did this, the narration continues to play even after the Flash interaction appears in the timeline. So for any narrated slides that have Flash interactions, you need to:
1) remove the Audio narration that is imported to the Slide (Audio > Remove > Slide from the menu bar)
2) On the Slide Properties - On Enter action, select Play Audio, then select the appropriate narration file for that slide.
This seemed to work -- the only problem is that if you use the "Play/Pause" button in the Adobe playback navigation bar, the button seems to get confused and changes to the Play state while the audio is still playing (instead of staying in the Pause state until the audio finishes as it does when the audio is imported to the Slide itself as narration). Not sure how to fix that issue except to remove the Pause/Play button from the playbar and just use the Next/Back buttons. And if you use navigation buttons instead of the Adobe playbar, you don't need to worry about this.

Background colours disappear when question slide added in C4

I recently updgraded to Captivate 4. Since the upgrade I have encountered this problem. I am importing slides from power point. Some of the slides have a blue background. When I add a question slide in C4, the blue background does not show up when I Preview in web browser or Publish the file. The blue background is still there if I don't add any question slides. Any ideas on what is going on and how to prevent my blue backgrounds from disappearing?

Sorry... I was in the process of doing it yesterday, but here's what I did.
I have two versions of Captivate in my laptop, Captivate 3 & 5.
1. I opened Captivate 3 and started a project
2. Create a question pool in Captivate 3
3. I inserted a powerpoint slide with my gif animation in the slide
NOTE: If you want your gif to loop continuously, you must make sure you pause the project in Captivate before the end of the slide. It will not work if you extend the slide duration.
4. After importing the ppt slide with looping gif animation in captivate 3, I copied the slide (make sure you're not copying the invisible click box) and pasted it on top of each question in the pool.
5. Go to your timeline and send the slide to the background if necessary.
6. Line up/design your question slides.
7. Save and close the project.
8. Find the project and open with > Captivate 5
Your question pool should retain the animation.
I am working on creating a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" game. I've seen it done before, but it always looks amateur. I wanted to do something more polished, with nicer graphics, appropriate sound effects and good transition slides. The gif animation is of two moving spotlights on the background of every question screen. I'd be happy to share a sample if I knew where to upload it to.

Background Image Disappear When Refreshing

Recently, I encounter a problem for building my application. I define my own background for my application in formsweb.cfg. The background load the first time I access the page, but it disappears when I press refresh button. So, can anyone tell me why and how can I going to fix it? Thank you.

you don't specify a Forms version number, which makes it harder for us to help. It could be a problem in a Forms version that may be fixed in a subsequent patch. Without Forms release numer however, I cant tell. I suggest you contact customer support at metalink.oracle.com

Audio disappears when I reverse a video in iMovie 11?

Hello. I was reversing and mirroring videos today with no problems. Then when I went to reverse another video, the video reversed fine, but the video's audio disappeared. The audio plays perfectly fine when the video isn't reversed, so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Like I said, I reversed other videos with no problems, so I know I'm doing it correctly. I'm just wondering if there's a way to fix this. Thanks.

Audio disappears when I use preloader

I have a movie that has an audio track (I have it set to "start" for the Sync). It works perfectly, but when I insert a preloader with it, the audio disappears. The rest of the movie still works fine (visual) but it is silent. Couldn't find exactly this problem in a thread. Any ideas?

if you're using actionscript to instantiate your sound, use:
var yoursound:Sound = new Sound(this);
if you're using the timeline to instantiate your sound, make sure it's not set to export for use with actionscript.

Audio disappears when burning in iDVD 6 from QT movie (from FCP)

Before burning, checked all the chapters and each plays with audio. When the disc burns it does encode the audio during the burning process but the only audio that is present when the burn if completed is the audio on the 1st menu. I only inserted video on menus two and three (using "Full Frame" menu) as I only want video; no audio on those two menus . I had to force quit twice and then ran Repair Permissions. Should have I trashed iDVD prefs and if so, is there only one to trash?

drag and drop all incidents of the iDVD plist to the trash. Use the finder or spotlight to locate all incidents of plist for iDVD. Looks like this:

secondly, you will need to repair permissions on the HD.
applications > utilities > apple's DU
third, delete all encoded assets from the advanced menu.
forth, recommend using different media like Verbatim DVD-R Minus media and burn from a disc image using apple's DU or Toast at 4x or slower.
fifth .....be very patient while it encodes and burns. i've seen some dvd's take up to 2 days.
sixth ....make certain you have no less than 20GB of available HD space.

Animation audio keeps playing when the next slide appears

I am inserting several SWF files (short demos created in
Captivate, each with with audio and controls) into a Captivate
project as animation objects, each on it's own frame. The problem
is that when I move to the next frame without finishing or pausing
the animation on the previous slide, the audio keeps playing over
the audio on the current frame. It becomes cacaphonic when you mvoe
quickly through multiple frames. Is there some way I can stop/pause
the audio of the previous animation when you move to the next
animation frame?

Yes, there is. Do not insert animations (SWF)
containing their own built-in audio. If you do, the audio will
continue to play until it has completed, even if the user leaves

Sorry, couldn't resist stating the obvious, but I'm
sure you don't appreciate my sense of humor as much as I, so I'll
apologize once more. Sorry.
Seriously, when audio is contained (or "wrapped") in a shell
like another SWF file, you basically give up control of that audio
- because the PC's "focus" is on the main SWF - your Captivate
project. Instead, use the audio for the main project, either at
slide-level (preferred), or (second choice) at object-level, the
"object" being the inserted SWF.
Another possibility - which I haven't tried personally - is
to include, as a separate object in the inserted SWF, a "mute"
control that could be clicked before hitting the "Next" button.
Extra steps for the end user (and you), and it will require at
least a minimal knowledge of action-scripting (and a copy of
Flash), but it
might also work ... maybe ... perhaps.

Audio disappears when using video fx

Two questions
1) The audio track (purple line) disappears whenever I try to use any video effect.
When I undo the video effect, the audio returns. What is the problem?
2) Even though I have checked View . Show audio wave form. It just remains
a thin purple line in the Timeline.
How come it never changes. Could it all be related to the first question?
I really need to darken a couple of clips , but I can't seem to do it without losing the sound. Thanks for any help.

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• *Delete iMovie pref file* - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named. com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• *Free space* on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. *Repair Permissions*, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Third party Plug-Ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
iMovie updated ?
QuickTime updated ?
Mac OS version ?
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)

From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

Menu background audio stops when entering transition

Is there anyway for the menu audio to overlap a transition towards the timeline ?
I have a menu setup with audio and a still frame from a small movie as background, when hitting play all the menu play's the movie clip/transition which fades out and then starts at chapter 1 of the timeline. Problem I'm facing now is that the audio which loops in the menu stops when entering the transition clip. While I would like the audio to overlap the transition clip. Can't find anything related to audio which could set the audio to keep playing while the transition clip does it's job.
If encore doesn't support this, then it should be included. In that case does anyone know how to workaround ?

This is simply not possible in DVD-Video.
The format is visually dominant - which means any time you switch menus, timelines - even with transitions - the audio must change too.
You can - if you must - use Aufdio in the transition as well, but please bear in mind that there
i will
be a glitch as the visuals change - it's unavoidable.

The canvas background color disappeared when using updateDisplayList

If I put code in the updateDisplayList for canvas. The
background color is disappeared. if I called

Yes, it is the same drag and drop project.
I changed color of draw rectangle The rectangle showed up. If
I called super.updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth, unscaledHeight) in
updateDisplayList function, the background will show up, however,
show in front of the rectangle.

Portlet Background Color Disappears when displayed

Hi,
I am using ver 9.0.4.0.99 of Portal and I'v created several Navigation Pages for the top banner and footer of my pages.
The banner is divided into two regions each holding an image. To 'fill in' the white space that surrounds the images I've specified a background color (blue) in a 'banner style' and added it to each region of the Navigation Page.
When we look at the Navigation Page alone, all looks well, but when we add the Navigation Page as a portlet to our root page in a banner region, the background color just disapears. I am left with two images surrounded by
whitespace.
I have just recently done the same process (nav pages with separate styles) in version 9.0.2.6 with another company and I did not have this problem. It worked fine. I even went back to make sure I followed the exact same steps and settings.
Has something changed with this version (9.0.4.0.99)?
Any ideas what we are doing wrong? Thx for your input.

In the properties for your navigation page, on the Others tab, ensure the "Use Style Of Page On Which Portlet Is Placed " checkbox is unchecked. This should force it to use the style you picked in the banner page and not on the display page. Please note this checkbox only has affect on item regions in the navigation page. Portlet regions on the navigation page will take the colors from the style on the display page.

Audio disappears when connecting/disconnecting headphones

After I upgraded to IOS7 I noticed that often when I listen to Podcasts through the speaker and then connect my headphones or vice versa, the audio stops even though the podcast is still playing. In order to solve this, I have to change the podcast I'm listending to. Then the audio returns and then I can return to the original podcast. This doesn't happen every time, but often enough.
I just upgraded to V2.0 and the problem is still there.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions as to how to solve it?

Sometimes after a wait of a minute or two it starts up for me. When I open the app and watch the progress bar that shows how far along you are in the episode, it jumps back a ways when you plug in the headphones. The moment you touch the selector to drag it back to where you were, the audio resumes.

Loop audio disappears when dropped into timeline

When I preview a loop, it sounds great. When I drag & drop into the timeline, the loop no longer has any sound. Any suggestions?

You dragged it into the empty area of the timeline, right?
It sounds like you don't have the instrument that this loop uses (the preview is always an audio file, while the loop itself plays on GB's software instruments). What instrument is that supposed to be? Can you create a new software instrument track and use that instrument?

AAC Audio disappears when rendering iPhone screen capture

I recorded some gameplay footage using Yosemite's Quicktime Movie Recording feature. The audio is there when I play the quicktime, but when I drop it into Final Cut Pro 7, it wants to render the audio. I render it, but the audio is gone. Any way to have it convert the audio?

I'm sorry, but that just isn't true in my experience. FCP7 works fine for me with h264. Maybe if you need it to be super high-quality you have to use Pro-Res, I don't know. But I edit with h264 in FCP7 all the time, I have for years. It is great for editing little iPhone app demo videos. And the files are sooooo much smaller.
There is something else at issue. I think a recent Yosemite update must have broken something. I got it to work simply by opening the new files in Quicktime Player 7 and saving them back out. No conversion. I don't even have to save it as a copy, just 'Save' on the original file! So funny. They work fine now in FCP 7.

Background audio not adjusting after project is paused when published to Flash. Any suggestions?

I'm working with:
Captivate 6
Mac OS X 10.8.2
Flash Player is updated to most recent version
My project contains background audio music set to adjust to slide audio. When I publish to Flash the background audio adjusts appropriately until I pause the video and then resume. Once the video resumes the background audio no longer adjusts to slide audio. So basically anytime a learner pauses the video and then resumes the background audio drowns the slide audio out. I've tried this with multiple projects and get the same result.
When I publish in HTML5 it works fine. But I cannot use HTML5 because my project contains necessary rollover objects and captions, slide transitions, text animations, and other effects that HTML5 does not support.
I've to remove and re-add the background audio, uninstall and reinstall Captivate, adjust the background and slide volume levels, uncheck loop audio, and pretty much any audio settings and publish settings I can think of.
Can someone else with the same OS and Captivate version try and see if they encounter the same problem when publishing to Flash?
Or does anyone have a solution/workaround?

Sorry, I don't have a fix to offer. Only an observation. I'm rather surprised to see this many folks actually USING background audio. I say that, because I have facilitated hundreds of Captivate classes over the years. And there are lots of folks with Instructional Design background that attend. And in so many of the classes, when we reach the audio section and we cover how to use Background Audio, the same comment is made.
The comment is that generally speaking, it is their opinion that from an Instructional Design standpoint, background music is a "no no" and should be avoided because it detracts from the learning objective.
