Background Black after logging in, Win 7

After moving computers on the domain to another location and changing the names. The users logged in and they got a black background. They were not able to change the wallpaper but they could change the color from black to something else. When I log in I
get the normal wallpaper I always have. I am a domain administrator.
Why is this happening? How do I fix this?

When you disconnected them then reconnected them at a different point in the network they were most likely staged (within Active Directory) and are just waiting to be added properly back into the domain (which is a simple drag and drop operation).
If I had my server up and running I'd point you to the exact location but its waiting on some new hardware, sorry.

I moved  the computers into the right OU. This did not fix the problem. They still have the black background instead of wallpaper.

  • Screen turns black after log in

    Hi,
My screen on my desktop turns black after logging in.  I can still see the cursor.  I hit ctrl alt delete, went to task manager typed in rstrui to do a system restore.  I went back a few months of restore but it did not work.
The strange thing is sometimes I wait about 30-45 min the black screen goes away.  But then restarting, I have to go through the same thing again.
Any ideas or help would be very much appreciated.

  • WoW crashes after logging in (Wine)

This has been a pretty major headache for me today. I'm trying to get WoW to work with Wine, but the two don't seem to play nice together.  I've tried both DirectX and OpenGL and I always get the same crash result:
This application has encountered a critical error:
    ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal exception!
    Program:    C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe

The instruction at "0x7DC9C467" referenced memory at "0xFFFFFFFF".
The memory could not be "read".
This always pops up in its own window, while in the terminal I get:

I'm at a loss here... I have no idea where to go and googling the error codes isn't helping any.  I've read the wiki and copied the installation from my old Windows system.  I really, really don't want to have to go back to it just for WoW.  I apologize for a lack of information, but I don't really have anything to go on except this little bit.

Solved!  Turns out I just had to install lib32-ati-dri.
Orr maybe not.  That lets me log in, but as soon as I choose a character it crashes on me.  This is what popped up in the terminal after the crash:
wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0x00000000 at address (nil) (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Unhandled exception: page fault on execute access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x00000000).

  • Black Background Display after Waking Mac

I am on a 13 inch Macbook Pro running Yosemite (10.10)
My screen is black when logging back in after putting my Mac in sleep mode. Isn't there supposed to be a blurred image of my desktop picture in the background? Instead of that though, there is a black screen.
Any way to get the blurred desktop image in the background of the login screen once it is awoken from sleep mode?
PS. I can login just fine. The constant black background is just annoying me xD

  • Blank black screen with just mouse pointer after logging in windows 8.1

First of all On starting the system, it was taking much longer time than usual.. Then after logging in it showed only a blank black screen with white mouse pointer.. had to force shut down (shut down also took longer time).. on starting went to safe mode and ran extensive system check.. HARD DRIVE SMART CHECK PASSED but HARD DRIVE SHORT DST CHECK FAILED...I have the recovery discs and the notebook is under warranty..

    Hi
If your hard drive is failing on short DST test then you will need to contact HP in your local region and arrange with HP a repair ( Hard drive replacement )  .  You say your machine is still in Warranty then the cost of shipping and repair will be covered by HP .

  • Black Screen after log in with Mountain Lion

For 6 times, in 8 attempts, my retina macbook pro fails to boot up. All goes black after I enter my user password and I have to press the power bottom for 3 sec to restart. It sounds like a system error, and for sure didn't happen before I installed mountain lion, should I attempt to do a fresh install? Or run any tests?
    Any advice appreciated.

    Hey guys...
Just posted this potential solution over in the forum Clinton mentioned. Not sure if it's a proper fix, but it seemed to work for me.
    Cheers...
Had my first experience with this just now. Shut down the MBPr for it's longest off time since getting it last week (about 6 hrs) and logged in to the BSOD.
My go-to solution on any other MacBook has always been the PRAM reset.
Restart your machine. Hold down CMD+OPT+P+R before the gray screen shows up (harder now than on the older, slower machines). Keep holding it down until the startup sound plays 2 or 3 times. Then release the keys and let it boot up normally.
No idea why this works. Don't have any clue what PRAM even is or what it would have to do with all this - but it worked for me. At least this time. Maybe it won't the next!
    Hope it helps you all...

  • Can't log in, screen goes black after trying.

So when I try to log in, the screen goes black, after a few seconds, when I move the mouse around, press a few keys on the keyboard, the login screen comes back. But the same thing happens when i try to log in, it just keeps going black. What should I do? I did have the Time Machine in place, but if there is a simple fix for this issue, that would be great.
I appreciate any help you can lend me. Thank you.

    Interesting...
By any chance did you or someone else ever set up an EFI firmware password on this system? It could explain why your system won't boot from the optical drive when the Install DVD is inserted since many of those snag key features are disabled when the EFI firmware password is enabled. It would most commonly be used in a school environment. Here's more information on the firmware password:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
If you have an EFI firmware password and can't remember it you'll need to reset it before continuing. A quick Google search will turn up methods for performing a reset.
If you don't have an EFI password set try this. Instead of holding down the 'C' key, hold down the option key instead to load the system picker. Make sure the Install DVD is in the optical drive. Does the Install DVD appear as one of the boot options? It may take a minute for it to appear once the hard drive icon appears. If the Install DVD never shows up, and you don't hear the optical drive making any noise then you may have an optical drive problem too.

  • HP15-g019wm notebook black screen after log in

My HP 15-g019wm product number F9H60UA#ABA notebook running on windows 8 recently updated and after the update it has taken longer to log in, and after logging in it goes to a black screen for a few moments with a white mouse cursor that I can move before it opens to the desktop. It takes over three minutes from log in to opening up to the desktop. Startup and boot are fine the problem only occurs after entering my password and logging in. Once it opens to the desktop everything else works fine. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Most recent windows upgrade was KB2993651 on 8-29-14. Don't know if that helps or not. Would uninstalling that update do anything to improve or worsen my computer's current state?
    Thanks
    This question was solved.

I just uninstalled the update prior to the problem occurring (KB 2993651), and upon restart I was able to go from the login screen to the desktop without the black screen. Thanks for the help.

  • Sgd client does not close after logging out of sgd on windows vista

    Hi,
I have a scenario wherein I find that the sgd client in the system tray does not close even after logging out of sgd (using the browser).
    We are using sgd 4.3.1
    Is this a known issue.
    Thanks,

Well, after searching every where, somewhere (not sure where now) I saw the suggestion to turn off bluetooth and NFC. I turned off both and it *seems* like the issue may be corrected. But what if I want touse a BT device, I guess I am stuck?
As to your questions, I my have changed to a larger mouse cursor, either that or the default cursor.
I think I may have had "mouse trails" clicked, not sure if that it the same as a mouse shadow?  Neither ofthese options seem to make a difference.
I had a standard Windows provided background for use, no personal photos.
Hopefully this partial fix (turning off the other settings) helps someone else. It seems to have fixed the problem for me, at least in the last 3-4 days since switching I have not noted a return of the problem.

I wish I were writing with a fix.  I, too, have a new X2 -- I like it very much.  I have not seen what you describe.
Instead, I have more questions;  I am intrigued.  I wonder if the way in which you have the system set is having an affect on the way it is behaving.
Do you see the problem regardless of which mouse pointer you set?
There are a variety of choices -- I use an extra large white arrow most of the time; sometimes I switch to a black cursor just for grins.  You can change the selectors, too.  Right-Click on the Background Screen and click Personalize ...
Are you using the entirely useless, but oh-so-pretty "mouse shadow"?
I am wondering if changing the pointer has had any effect on the disappearing act.
What about the background?  Are you using a personal photo?  Lots of colors?  Does changing the background make any difference?

  • LCD goes blue/black after login;  fine in Safe Mode

My mom's mac mini is experiencing a very frustrating problem.
She has an Acer 19 inch LCD. After startup she'll start up Safari or iChat or Mail, etc. and her display will go all blue and then just go black. Sometimes it will flicker back to usable and then go back to blue/black after a few more seconds.
We've been troubleshooting for a few days now and have discovered the following:
    - When logging in under Safe Mode, the monitor works just fine.
    - Removing all Login Items from her account doesn't help.
    - Resetting the PRAM and trashing the plist file doesn't seem to help at all.
    - Creating a new user account and logging in under that new test account doesn't help either.
So the bottom line is that Safe Mode works, but Normal mode does not.
Any help/ideas on what to try next?

OK, that helps. So this is a wide Acer 19-inch? 1440 x 900 native? Interesting that in Safe mode it defaults to 1360 x 768.
What I would tell her to try is the following: Boot Safe and then go into Displays preferences and switch the resolution to 1024 x 768. Refresh should be 60Hz. Then restart normally. Often, when you switch resolutions in this way while in Safe mode, during a normal restart, that last selected resolution will persist allowing the screen to come up in 1024 x 768 booted normally. Then, have her go into Display preferences again and see if 1440 x 900 at 60Hz is a selectable option (I assume that is native). If it is, select it. Hopefully things will return to the way they were back when the monitor worked fine.
Since you are remote, it might be worthwhile for you to spend a little time and learn how to screen share remotely over iChat. It's pretty easy to do if you are both running Leopard and it will allow you to control her computer remotely so you can administer to it those times when she needs help. Good luck.

  • Render background black is not really black and white is not really white

    Goodday,
I have problem when i try to render movies from Premiere Pro CS4 in Adobe Media Encoder.
When it is has black background or a white background and i want to render it in Adobe Media Encoder the color shifts a little bit. Black gets really dark grey and white is not white anymore.
I import the composition in Media Encoder and make a WMV from it with all its values to the max. I also tried a few different codecs, but non of them keeps the background black or white.
what can i do to solve the problem?
    sincerly,
    3Demian

It's possible you have got some "sit-up" on the black. Do you have access to a 'scope? Not the rubbish thing in PrPro. If you have then look at the line timebase in the output and check the position of the 0 level after the back porch (after the line sync period). An overly raised black level (pedestal) in the video period will cause the blacks to look grey. If you are using a Proc Amp anywhere in the output then check the setup.
Similarly, raising the black level can cause clipping on your whites, which can result in the white not looking "white" depending upon how much it's being clipped and the setup of the clipping device threshold.
    Just a thought.

  • Background disappears after adding a cross dissolve to a keyed clip.

I have a clip that has a Keying filter (as well as being cropped and scaled down) on it over a white background. After adding a Cross Dissolve to the keyed clip, the white background disappears for the duration of the Cross Dissolve, leaving a black background behind the keyed clip. This black background is present both in preview and after rendering.
    Any advice?

not positive this will help, but try this:
    remove the transition
right-click and sselect "make compound clip" (or Option G)
within the compound clip, drop a white solid under the keyed clip; do not place any transitions at either end of the compound clip.
return to your storyline / sequence
place your transition again and see if it's fixed
if you still do not have a clean dissolve, remove the transition and then click once on the compound clip and go to around 8 or 12 frames before the end and in the inspector, go to the opacity and add a keyframe and then arrow right to the frame before the last frame and add another keyframe and drag the opacity value to zero.

  • Can't switch tty after logged in kde for a while

I get only a black screen with Ctrl+Alt+F1(or 2~6). This happens a while after logged in kde.
I can login and exe commands in those black tty's, there are reactions to "halt" though I couldn't see anything from the screen.
Actually "halt" and "reboot" do not work correctly (they closed everything but don't turn off the power) after tty switching gets broken.
In the first a few minutes logged in kde, everything works fine.
I have tried to reinstall video card drivers, and change different ways of starting kde (in inittab or rc.conf or by hand). The problem is always there.
I haven't used this computer for a long time, so not sure when the problem appeared. All packages are up to date now.
Any ideas about this? Thank you in advance.

  • How to stop monitor from going black after no activity for a short time while reading a document?

When I'm reading an e-mail or document without moving my mouse, the screen turns black after only about one minute and then switches to my screen saver.  I must move the mouse constantly to keep my active window open.  I can't find out how to turn this "Energy Saving Feature" off so I can read long articles without being interrupted every other minute.  This has been VERY irritating!
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Open windows Control Panel, open Pesonalization, click the Screen saver link in the bottom right and in the following window, adjust the time in the 'Wait' box to a time you want before the screen saver appears and click Apply. Or if you prefer never to get the log-on screen, remove the tick next to 'On resume, display logon screen'.  Click Apply to save the change.
Next, open windows Control Panel  again and click Power Options, click the Change plan settings link next to your currently selected power plan and in the following window adjust the time using the dropdown box next to 'Turn Off Display' to a more acceptable setting and then click Save Changes.
Note:  Set the time in the Power Options menu to be slightly longer than the time you set in the Screensaver Menu or you will never see your screensaver start.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • Plasma Desktop Crashes a few seconds after logging in

    Hi everyone!
After a system upgrade on Thursday, my KDEmod 4.4 displays the following behaviour:
For a  few seconds after log-in, the taskbar , wallpaper and a FolderView widget appear but then the entire plasma desktop crashes and leaves me with a black screen and a mouse cursor. I am perfectly able to run various apps but that's about it. The only way to have a useable desktop is to go to System Settings>Desktop>Workspace and   then select "Netbook". Then the netbook
version of Plasma appears as expected. When I try to reactivate the "Desktop" option, Plasma crashes again giving the following dmesg output:
    drkonqi[3944]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f288899a00b sp 00007fff16f62ac0 error 4 in libkdecore.so.5.4.0[7f28888f7000+28f000]
(this segfault has been mentioned in the forums before but no one found a solution from what I read)

    Any ideas?
    P.S
I disabled all the KDE-related services I could including Nepomuk/Strigi, automounting of usb devices etc. I also disabled Desktop Effects. Doesnt seem to help though.

    Hi there,
you reactivated a very old thread and I don't think you're running kdemod these days.
    Perhaps you experiencing this problem:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=168676
    Try
    pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/python2-sip-4.14.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
to downgrade the problematic package and reboot. If this fixes your problem, exclude "python2-sip" from upgrading in /etc/pacman.conf until a fixed package is released.
