Background Chroma Key

Hey guys,
first of all sorry for my bad english I hope you understand what I want
Is there a function in AE to subtract the background behind an object when I have the background without the object as well? (I want something like a chroma key, just for all without the object)
For example:
I have a video from a game with the character in front. Then I have the same video without the character. Now I want to delete the background so only the character is left on a black background.
I tried all the effects like difference, subtract etc... but they don't work that well.
Is there any effect that can do what I want?
Thanks

I know it's a while now... but here is an example
1. I have a video of the Background:
2. I have a video with an object/character in front of the Background.
3. I want now only in this case the angel.
With which function or effect can I subtract the Background so I'm just left with the angel.
Thanks

  • Multicam editing multiple chroma key background

    hi,
I'm shooting and editing interviews with 3 cameras with a Chroma Key green screen.
Cam 1 - Wide angle shot, showing both the interviewer and the guest.
    Cam 2 - The interviewer
    Cam 3 - The guest
Now I need to do a multicam sync based on audio.
Then I have applied keyer effect to each and gets perfect chroma keying for each camera and had no problem editing using Angle Viewer.
Now my problem is ALL the backgrounds in Cam 1,2,3 are the same. It looks kind of weird.
How do I sync different background to each of the Camera with Chroma keyer and Multicam editing?
Is there a way to link a different background to each camera?

The original footage is meaningless. You've said you got the clips after the key was pulled so you're looking at a self-contained movie with an alpha channel.

  • Chroma key backgrounds

    Hello, I have been asked to do a job editing some stuff shot on chroma key backgrounds and would be using there editing suite. I've never actually done this before but looking at a couple of tutorial videos on youtube it seems pretty straight forward. My understanding of the process so far is;
Make sure there aren't too many creases/drop shadows
Put the original footage in V2
Then effects - Video filters - key - chroma keyer
Eyedrop on the green background then move the sliders
    Edgethin and soften the edges
Then the spill suppressor green/blue and do any cropping etc
Put the backgound in V1 and then you're done.
Obviously this is the basic process, but what I'm after with this message is any advice/tips, or common problems people come across when doing this. I will do a practice one before I do the job but don't have a green screen, how easy is it to do against a plain white wall?
Any advice would be great, thanks in advance!

  • Photoshop images for chroma key background smaller than frame size??

    Hi Guys can anyone help.
New to Final Cut Express. Putting together a project with Chroma Key and creating backgrounds in Photoshop. Creating PAL D1/DV 768x576 images. importing into final cut and image will not fit frame. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any suggestions please? Thanks

Those numbers are for square pixel image sizes not for D1 pixels. Use those numbers for a flat image or one without transparency using square pixels.

  • PP CS5/5.5 chroma key better than AE CS4?

    Hi everyone.
I think I read somewhere a while back that the chroma key in PP CS5/5.5 is better than AE CS4's Keylight. In fact, the PP effect may be an improved Keylight , but I can't recall this for certain.
    Can anyone verify this?
    Thx.
    Paul

I've keyed with the same camera for a couple of years now, and it's got a pretty narrow band in which greens are easily keyed. DVCPRO HD is not well-reputed for its handling of greens, or at least as a result of it's use with an older 1/3" sensor. I've gotten the best results with the exposure on the screen at about 50-60IRE, but that's just in my scenarios. Most of my material is recorded to P2 cards (though I did one long shoot with OnLo and a green screen), but the footage encoding is the same--it's all DVCPRO HD. I've got some stuff that I did recently that keyed like buttah with Ultra--I literally had a solid key in 20 seconds with just picking the background color and tweaking a couple parameters.
So, since "brightly lit" and "lower lit" are subjective terms, it's hard to give you any specific recommendations other than to try to stick in a particular exposure range. All I know is that when your green screen footage is evenly lit and at mid-range exposure, Ultra does a pretty good job with minimal effort.

  • "Photo Booth" Chroma key

anyone know of a plugin in FCP that will do a "chroma key" like the way photo booth does its' chroma key effect?
pretty much instead of keying out blue or green, photo booth asks you to step out of frame then saves the image, when you step back into frame it keys out the background the same way you could key out the color green.
I haven't seen it, but I'm wondering if there is a way to do this in FCP.

ok so most of my experience is w/ chroma key, so that is how I think of this. I understand that FCP takes the difference layer & thinks of it similar to a green screen. you adjust tolerance & threshold to fine tune the matte / key. I also know that there is a little bit of noise in the video (I'm shooting these tests on -6db gain to get the cleanest image) which will make the same pixel "NTSC" (never the same color frame to frame.
but this is the best I can get it w/ my tests

    http://i28.tinypic.com/15eju4o.png
this is w/ the threshold at -90 & the tolerance at 0. is this filter really this poor, because I've hit the wall in the parameters and it feels like I should have more room to move around. is this the best FCP can do? if so is there a third party app that can actually do this better?
or are there any more tricks, like progessive vs interlace, DV vs HD, etc.
these are some of my first attempts that were creating more of a blended key.

  • Unable to Chroma Key in FCE

I am having a devil of a time trying to get FCE chroma key to work. I have followed every tutorial I can find on Youtube, all with the same result, nothing.
It doesn't matter whether I use a still picture or a video clip nothing happens. I can use the eyedropper to select the colour. I can manipulate the bars but all to no effect onscreen. This is obviously very frustrating for me.
Would anyone be able to help?
    Thanks,
    Brad

Well, I guess you have already the “background-clip” on V1...?
Drag the “green-screen- (or blue) clip” on V2 above the background-clip...
Select the clip on V2 / go to Effects / Video Filters / Key / Chroma Keyer...
Double-click the green-screen-clip on V2 / the clip should open in the Viewer...
Select the Chroma Keyer Tab / Select the Eyedropper and click the green colour
in the Canvas / hold down the shift-key and use the Eyedropper again,
until all green colour has disappeared (or nearly)...
Fine-tune with Saturation and Luma if necessary...
Switch to the Filters Tab / Chroma Keyer / and try further adjustments...

  • Chroma Key object creates only an apha channel when a second object is blended

    Hi there,
I try to use the chrome key effect to have a person speaking in front of a background.
    So I have 2 objects.
    Video 1 = background (jpg-image)
Video 2 = video object edited with chrome key effect.
Layering both levels I see the background with the alpha channel of the second layer on top.
If I decative the first level (Video 1 = jpg image) I can see the videoclip with the transparent backgound.
    What am I doing wrong?
Can anybody help me with that issue?
    Looking forward for ideas...
    Thanks from Germany!
    Tom

Ultra key is the best choice for chroma keying.
Video with ultra key set on higher layer. In Your  Effects Control Tab , the Opacity Settings value should at 100 with the blend mode set to normal.
Ultra Key (UK) set up should be listed beneath the Opacity & Time Remapping settings. Use the color picker in UK to select the green in your source clip.
Then fine tune settings. I like setting UK's output the Alpha when I am adjusting the quality of Key, then back to composite for preview and normal viewing.
You can prep the footage for keying with fast color corrector, boosting the chroma saturation and heightening the contrast(watch out for over bright whites) a little bit.
Still image on lower layer with no keying added and opacity blending on normal.

  • Chroma key layer flickering and dropouts

Hi, I've searched this forum and the internet for assistance on an issue similar to the one I'm having and could not find anything close, so I appologize if there has been previous discussions on anything similar to this issue.
I am using Adobe Premiree Pro CS4. I have chroma key footage on my timeline with one layer of green screen footage and one layer of a static jpg. For some reason, while the timeline is playing back, the chroma key effect will begin to flicker and eventually drop out. Leaving just the original video layer with green screen background.Sometimes, just the background layer (jpg) will be visable. This effect flickers back and forth quite rapidly and eventually either the static jpg layer or the green screen footage layer will completly drop out.
If I stop playback, the stopped video will go back to normal, but once I start playback again, the issue starts again. I thought it might be a resource issue, so I restarted the coomputer and shut off as many resources I could in the task manager. Then I figured it was only a timeline playback issue and that it wouldn't show up in the final output, so I went ahead and rendered the project to an mpg file, and was disappointed when the effect showed up in the final output.
I'm running a Windows box with Win 7 Home Premium, I7 processor, 16GB RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 7800 graphics card.
Will I need to reinstall CS4?

Make sure that you check for those updates from the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site, and do not trust your OS, or any driver utitlity to tell whether you have the latest version.
Also, most manufactured computers use "master discs" to install the OS and all drivers. That master disc can be many months out of date. I recommend manually updating all drivers, and the OS, on a new computer.
I also remove any "bloatware," as many computer mfgrs. fill up the system with tons of useless "stuff."
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Chroma key, dv

I want to make a video with 1-4 musicians. I´d like to have no background (=color white), "chroma key" seems to be the word. I´m using a dv camera. Would this work with the chroma key effect in FCE?

Ok, so here's a voice from the other side.
I do chroma keying all the time. It's nowhere near as fussy as people make it out to be. I've even used wrinkled green fabric with less than stellar lighting and still got acceptable results. OK, it's not videophile hi def on a big screen, but it's quite acceptable for most viewers on a 'regular' TV.
You would shoot your musicians against a green screen background (make sure they don't wear any green or blue). Put a white slug on your base video track. Then put your actual video on the track above it, apply the Color Smoothing 4:1:1 filter, then the chroma key or green screen filter, and you've got your musicians on a white background - kinda like the Morpheus & Neo 'loading program' scene in The Matrix. Depending on how it looks you might also need to apply the Spill Suppressor and Matte Choker to clean up the edges.
Will you like the results? You'll have to try it and see for yourself.
While it's true that the DV codec isn't nearly as good at chroma keying than other (higher end) codecs, it's not terrible, either.

  • Chroma key effect

    Hi All,
I am trying without success to use the Chroma Key effect only in part of the frame.
Is it possible? Can I draw the borders?
    Thanks
    Shaul

Coming from a stills background, I once years ago saw a video of a post-processing person in naturally film working (there wasn't this digital thing then) and he showed how they used masks, flags, & mattes in front of the camera during shooting of special effects. It was very elaborate work, some of it literally done by shooting a scene with a mask (totally blocked all but one part of the image from being exposed, cut to shape and placed just so in front of the camera), then re-winding the film and shooting with a flag over part of it ... then re-winding and shooting another section with both masks to block areas and mattes that were colored or painted for either shifting color/tonality or detail level or simply adding background/foreground to the image. Some of his work the same footage went through the camera 5 or 6 times, complicated re-registration on re-winds and exposure controls & all ... but allowed him to do things that couldn't be done otherwise.
What struck me at the time was he credited his ideas tools & techniques to Ansel Adams, the way he'd mastered making prints with held-back/extended exposures using precise shapes and movements to mutliple dodging and burning tools. This guy just did it on base footage in-cam, which sorta blew my mind away at the time.
Btw ... I was pretty frickin' hot with those tools myself, b/w and especially color prints. LONG time ago ... and your "cuts out the garbabe" comment is as good as leads to no never-mind (whatever the heck that phrase really transliterates as ... )

  • Chroma key effect in Premiere Elements

If I buy Adobe Premiere Elements, am I able to use chroma key effect and receive a clean video free from green colour from the background, even around the hair? My experience is that it is not possible with cheaper programs.

    peterwallgren
What computer operating system would you be running Premiere Elements on? If Mac, be advised that Mac does not have Chroma Key, Green Screen Key, or Blue Screen Key.
A lot of variables in the green screen videography and photography. Best download and install Premiere Elements 13 and determine if it works for you in green screen workflow.
Generalizing, I think it does a good job. But a generalization is not good enough when you get down to a specific setup with specific details.
We will be watching for your follow up if you decide to look at the Premiere Elements 13 Chroma Key effect (Expert workspace, fx Effects/Keying/Chroma Key).

  • Chroma key use: Photoshop (version) or can Elements 13 be utilized?

Chroma key use: Photoshop (version) or can Elements 13 be utilized? I do not want to purchase plugs-in etc.

This is a Photoshop user forum the is also a Photoshop Elements forum. IMO If you want to replace a background on a still image the chroma key color you should use is White or  Gray.   When the subject is complex like hair blowing in the wind you will always need to deal with chroma key spill. White can be eliminated with blending and gray will blend and have little effect in the color. White and gray backgrounds will not cause a color cast in you exposure..
You may get a better reply in the elements forum.  User there are familiar with what tools Elements has. Photoshop may have some selection tools not available in elements.
