Background colours for text

Anyone know whether it is possible to set different background shades and colours for specific bits of text, say, to highlight traditionally with a bright yellow background, or grey out various key words within a passage?
Any help greatly appreciated!

If you are highlighting an entire paragraph use the paragraph fill option. If you are highlighting specific words then use a shape that is set to yellow, with no strokes. Place it, set it so it covers your word and then once it covers the appropriate part of your text use the Arraange menu to send it to the back. To reselect it you will have to start your click-drag in a margin which does not have text in it.
You will also have to have to set the shape to be locked to the page. I would not do this if you are still editting your text. Do it towards the very end so you can be sure the text will not move away from the box which could happen if the flow of the text changes.
And, a third alternative, although it is more a smudge than anything, is to apply a shadow to the object. I would not suggest using Yellow, since it will blend too easily into the white of the paper. Try a blue, green or pink. Set the opacity to 100%, the offset to zero and the blur to about 10 or so. This will give a definite colored smudge around the word, pop it off the page, but it lacks the 'control' that a normal highlighter option would give you.
As a side note, you can save this as a character style to make it easier to use later. There is an arrow beside "Include all character attributes" Click on that and choose the most appropriate options (shadow, bold, italic, text color, etc) Call the new style "Highlight" if you like. With the blurring function the darker colors will be very muted and the lighter colors will most likely vanish.
I hope that helps.
Gerry.
(Note: the paragraph fill is sadly not an option for the character style. I guess that makes sense since it would be a character fill instead.)

  • How to insert background colour into text?

    Hi,
    I'm relatively new to Dreamweaver so I'm not sure how exactly to phrase this question. Within a div file on my HTML I have created I have a few links taking the user to another page. .
    For the sake of clarity I have inserted an image to express what I am trying to say.
    The background colour for my div is a chocolate brown. I was wondering if there was any way of creating a background for the text for each link within the div? So the text would have a background with a different colour?
    I'm trying to create something that looks like this:
    Does anyone know if this is possible to do? Do I have to create separate Div files within the main div file to do this?
    Apologies for the lack of detail, I just don't know the technical words to show what I'm looking to do! Any tips or links to tutorials would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks for reading.

    First, we need to examine the HTML code used to construct your menu.  The modern approach is to use an unordered list like this:
    <nav>
         <ul>
              <li><a href="#">Menu Item1</a></li>
              <li><a href="#">Menu Item2 </a></li>
              <li><a href="#">Menu Item3</a></li>
              <li><a href="#">Menu Item4</a></li>
              <li><a href="#">Menu Item5</a></li>
         </ul>
    </nav>
    Then style your navigation with CSS like this:
    <style>
    /**zero out margins & padding on everything**/
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    /**fix the CSS Box Model on % layouts**/
    -moz-box-sizing:border-box;
    -webkit-box-sizing:border-box;
    box-sizing:border-box;
    nav {
        width: 100%;  /**adjust width as needed**/
        background-color: #960;
        padding: 30px;
    nav ul {
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0
    nav li {
        width: 20%;
        list-style: none;
        font-size: 14px;
        float: left;
        text-align: center;
    /**menu links**/
    nav li a {
        display: block;
        text-decoration: none;
        margin-right: 6px;   /* space between links */
        width: auto;  /* adjust as needed or use auto */
        padding: 6px;
        font-weight: bold;
        line-height: 2em;
        color: #FFF;
        background: orange;
    /**menu style on mouse over**/
    nav li:hover {
        color: #FFF;
        background: #1e5799;
    /**clear floats after nav element**/
    nav:after {
        clear: both;
        display: block;
        content: ' ' ;
    /**END MENU STYLES**/
    </style>

  • Background colour for setstatus

    Hello friends,
                   is it possible to set a background colour for setstatus method.....

    You can override the paint method in your field or manager like this:
    VerticalFieldManager vfm = new VerticalFieldManager() {
       public void paint(Graphics graphics) {
          graphics.setBackgroundColor(0x00FF0000); //Red
          graphics.clear();
          super.paint(graphics);

  • Choosing colours for text.

    A friend of mine, who uses Windows, replies to my emails by inserting text coloured red, into my original message. It is a terrific idea, so I went looking for instructions on how to do it with Mac.
    I'd also like to be able to highlight passages in new emails I write, by colouring the text.
    I found a Mac. instruction entitled "Choosing colours for text and objects". Unfortunately, it suffers from the common Mac. problem of being written by a geek, who assumes that the reader knows what he knows and fails to adequately define the method and also fails to describe how it works. Here is the offending passage:
    Select the text or object whose color you want to change and open the Colors panel.
    "Select the text" is the bit where the writer failed.
    * The method of selecting the text is not given.
    * No insight is given as to how it works.
    ** Can a new email be set up so as to type it in red?
    ** Or is the method to type it, THEN change it to red?
    ** If the latter is the case, how can I reply as described above, by inserting passages into a received email?
    ** Also, how can I highlight a passage in a new email, by using red font?
    I should be most grateful, if someone who understands how the system works, would teach me how to achieve what I have described above.
    Incidentally and in fairness, the Colours panel part of the instruction is clearly written and I don't need any help with that.

    "Select the text" is the bit where the writer failed.
    The method of selecting the text is not given.
    That's a standard OS thing... just click and drag over the text you want to select.
    Double-click to select a word. Triple-click to select a paragraph.
    Can a new email be set up so as to type it in red?
    Or is the method to type it, THEN change it to red?
    Again, this follows the standard UI rules, namely:
    1) If there is something selected, change that (i.e. if you have some text selected and you choose red in the color palette, the selected text goes red.
    2) If nothing is selected, use the chosen color from this point on (i.e. the next characters you type will be in the chosen color).
    Note that color (and font) selections are position-dependent. That is if you type two paragraphs, then set the second one to red (by selecting it), the first one doesn't change. Additionally if you click back in the first paragraph you'll continue to type in the default font/color, not red, because that is what the first paragraph was written in. Hope that makes sense.

  • Add background colour to text

    Hi
    I was just wondering it its possible to add a text background colour in muse (for links) natively or would I have to achieve this by using CSS?
    Had a search but could not find an answer.
    Thanks

    Yes ... but I don't know why the above solution has been picked as Correct, because it's wrong ...
    Just create the text wording you want then give it give that a background FILL colour as would with any other element ... to make it look better add a STROKE of about 1 (or 2) ... then a bevel (rounded corners) of 3 ... then use the 'Spacing' option (right panel) and use the pixel settings to give the text equal spacing from the edges so they're not too tight to the borders ...
    The button below (which is on a black background) was given a Facebook link ... when hovering over the link you get the hand popup to show it's a web link ... and was customised to the colour theme of the website ... then use the STATE options to create colours for Over, Down and Active ... to show feedback when using the button ...
    Just click on the text field to set a hyperlink ... no need to actually highlight the whole text itself ... and don't forget to tick the 'open in new window or tab' box if that's what you want it to do ...
    cheers,
    Gem

  • Can't select CMYK text colour for text fields in Acrobat Pro forms?

    I have designed a business card template in Indesign, and now want to use Acrobat Pro to add in text fields so that a client can edit the contact details on the cards in future.
    I need to select a specific text colour for the fields, so that it matches the rest of the design. The cards will obviously need to be printed and the document has been set up in CMYK, but when I enter the CMYK colour breakdown in the Properties > Text Colour panel, it won't apply the colour to that field. The text either stays at the default black, or reverts to RGB - which isn't suitable for printing and doesn't match the colour I need.
    Can anybody PLEASE shed some light on this? Other similar posts have either not been answered or people have suggested JavaScript..? I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with a JS code..? Surely there's an easier explanation?
    Thanks in advance.

    This is for a text field that you create in Acrobat, whether the form is used offline or online. The script is a custom Format script, which you can place by bringing up the Properties dialog for the field, select the Format tab, set a format category of Custom, and you should see where you can enter the script. Change the string "Instructional text goes here" to the text you want to display when the field is blank.

  • Change background colour for iTunes 9 (70) on Mac OS 10.5.8

    I want to change the background colour from white to black on iTunes 9 (70). When i tried using the iTunes preferences General Tab I did not get the option available to change the background colour.I tried looking for software updates as maybe iTunes 9 (70) is out of date but my Mac told me there weren't any!
    This feature would be very useful to a friend of mine who is registered blind so any help would be appreciated lots. Thnx.

    Thank you, that download installed without a problem. It also installed Safari 4.0.2, which still had to be upgraded to 4.0.3. Now iTunes 9 is happy and can access the iTunes store, so I can get my Podcasts again.
    Life is good.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Background colour for page for readability

    In Microsoft word, I can change the background colour of a page to make it easier to read - good fro proofing long documents. Can't work out how to do this in Pages.... Don't want to print a colour, just to read comfortably....

    Sue,
    You could slip a colored Shape behind the Text layer. You just have to remember to remove it or change its color when you print.
    Insert > Shape > Rectangle. On the Format Bar, click Floating and, if necessary, No Wrap. Size the rectangle to cover your page, set the Fill Color, Arrange > Send Objects to Background.

  • Add background colour to text path?

    Hello,
    I have a circular path on which I'm typing text. I have 2 questions:
    1) How can I 'extend' the typing area of the circle to allow me to type on various points of the path? I've adjusted the 'markers' using the direct selection tool, but when I press tab or space, the original text moves
    2) Is it possible to colour the background of text, in such a path?
    I've attatched a screenshot, if you need more, please let me know. As you can see, at the top of the path is one blue line where the text starts, however I want to type in 3 places.
    Thank you

    Look if you keep adding criteria no one willb.e able to give you any real help and you have to follow instructions you cannot interpret the steps to try and simplify any thing.
    You clearly have two pths with different radii so it was supposed be on path. But besides that the methd I suggested is not going to work with so may cities or other text items.
    Here this what you do but follow the intructions.
    1. You create your cicle path and copy and paste in front, for past in front the keyboard short cut is command f or control f depending on your platform.
    2. You mke the top one into a text path and paste the spces as per the video I posted.
    3. You type your cities
    4. Lock the text path
    5. give the path below the text path a stroke to the desired weight
    6. then scale path with the stroke so that the text is aligned to the center of the stroke
    7. then switch to the scissor tool and cut the path wityh the stroke so you can delete the unwanted portions
    You get this
    0r this if you change the colors which can bee done after cutting the path.
    You should know this is rather basic and probably why no one else came forward you should look at some tutorials on Adobe TV and get a better feel for the program.

  • Changing the background colour for the pop up box in UWL

    Hello Expert,
    I got the confirmation popup box In my UWL application for the confirmation process. By default the background for this popup box is Blue.
    I want change it to new colour.
    FYI, I have an Iview from web dynpro Application for this popup. How can I change this?
    Kindly advice.
    Regards,
    Hafizah.

    Hi,
    I guess you have to override the stylesheet that is set by the Portal for the Web Dynpro application.
    Have a look at the properties of your WD iView.

  • Difference in background colour for methods in BOR

    Hi Experts,
    I have a question regarding background for methods and attributes in BOR usually pink,red and white can anyone tell me the difference.I tried in google and also in SDN but couldnt find the answer.Please dont get annoyed if my question is very silly.Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Srini...

    A good question which any one would have thought regarding this, any ways
    Upto my knowledge
    1. Red color : When ever you try to inherit any interface into your BOR then the methods which are included into your bor will be represented by READ and you cannot implement them
    2. Pink color : The interfaces and the attributes which are included into you BOR will apear in Pink
    3. White Color: the one which you created int he BOR and you have full authorities to change , IMplement and release. where  you don't have this option with other colors.
