Background help.

Hi. There is a 3 column div layout on a page. I have one to
float left 10% wide, one to centre 80% wide and one to float right
10% wide. This seems to be fine. I want to put a vertically
repeating background in the left and right divs. I have done this
but i have a problem: my centre div which automatically overflows
with content can go down the page at all different heights. How do
I get my right and left divs to kind of conjoin with the centre div
and increase or decrease in height depeding on the content in the
centre div? Thanks

    Hi. When you were in the recovery drive doing permissions, did you try and run a repair of the boot drive? Did you try single user mode? Try these first and then go back and try to reinstall the operating system.When I say repair boot drive I don't mean permissions. There are both options in disk utilities.When you open disk utilities ,you will see in the left column  two drives plus possibly  a boot partition that look like an external driv. click on the second drive and in first aid use repair disk. If you still can't boot and it will not let you restore, you may have to do a clean install.   http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18869?viewlocale=en_US

  • Is this background helpful for learning Oracle11i?

    I have some financial experience and I have got the Oracle database Manageemnt OCP certificate.
    Is this background helpful for learning Oracle11i?
    How much time should I spend, another OCP's time?

    Hi Frank:
    Having a background in the world of finance plus an OCP is certainly a very good start.
    However, 11i is a very different thing to "normal" Oracle, and so, too, is being an 11i DBA. I wish I could point you to loads of good study material, but there isn't that much around.
    That said, I can recommend "Installing, Upgrading and Maintaining Oracle Applications 11i (or, When Old Dogs Herd Cats - Release 11i Care and Feeding) (Paperback)" ISBN-10: 1411616421, ISBN-13: 978-1411616424.
    There is a website that may be of some use: http://becomeappsdba.blogspot.com/2006/07/installing-oracle-applications-become.html.
    Also, have a browse around for similar. Finally, Oracle courses may be useful. I attended one - it was OK, but hardly worth the money. The documentation, though, is good and useful.
    How long it would take you to become proficient is impossible to say, as it depends on your study materials, and the time you are able to devote to learning. But, it's not, IMHO, an easy, quick thing to pick up, even with OCP prior learning, etc.

  • Screen Saver and Size of Background - Help, please!

    Hello there!
    I have a brand new Dell computer from Best Buy. With my last computer (Gateway), I was able to set up an automatic screen saver of a slideshow of pictures if my computer was not used for a certain amount of minutes.
    With this new computer, I have set up the same settings, but the screen saver NEVER comes on. I have clicked everything I need to, accepted, and saved the settings, but it never works. Any ideas?
    I decided to try and fix it myself, so I went into the Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Change Screen Saver, and then went into Power Settings to see if maybe the display wasn't working for this reason. I cannot remember what I did, but now the background picture is HUGE.
    To fix this, I have gone into screen resolution and display/power settings, but everything seems to be set to "recommended", so I cannot figure out what happened to make the images so large suddenly.
    1) Can you help me get the screen saver slideshow to activate?
    2) How do I get my background pictures back to normal size?
    Thank you so much for your help!!! I really appreciate it.

    Wow, so sorry for the hype delayed response. it could be that your laptop was timing out for powersave before the screensaver would kick in. The best thing to do is go into your screen saver, set it to 1 minute and then let it sit for a minute without touching it (with it plugged in). It should kick in. Again, most laptops cut the monitor off after just a few minutes to conserve the power of the battery. I'm glad that the other solution worked for you =)

  • Logo background help please

    I am fairly new to PS and have only previously used it to removed things like redeye and lightly enhance photos, however I am working on a company logo which needs to be looking right unfortunaly it is quite an intricate design, I need it to appear to be floating when I put it on the website at present it is in a white box.
    So far I have removed the background with the eraser tool. however when I save it and upload the image to the website it still has the white box around it, could someone please help me and tell me what I am missing the only bit of the background I want to keep is the inside of the heart, I have been banging my head against a wall for days with this? ? ?

      You will get best quality by selecting save for web and choosing PNG24 rather than PNG8.

  • Creating manga comic book black background (help)

    hi all. new user here.
    i have to create a 24 x 36 inch posterboard and i want to put /images/ "in" /cells/ like in a manga comic book. basically i want to have variously sized and variously proportioned WHITE AREAS (with a slightly rounded corners, not square) and then the area between these cells (for instance 1/8" spacing) to be all black.
    then I would place images /behind/ the white rounded cells.
    does that make sense? I have had success doing a normal board on an all white background (with some help) while using the demo of InDesign and I am wondering if anyone can help me get started with a description of how I might do this and some Adobe InDesign terminilogy that goes along with this so I can read up about the commands in the Help documentation.
    thanks in advance for any help with this.

    Your background is going to be an "unassigned" frame (drawn with the rectangle tool -- the one without the X in it). Do you understand bleed? As far as the fill color, that would depend on how this is going to be printed, and if there is other color on the page. It will look better as a "rich black" which is a four-color mix, but you pay more for four-color prints than just black and white. If you are using a rich black, the exact formula can vary widly depending on the printing method (and I would ask the printer for a recommendation), but a pretty "safe" mix would be 50c, 40m, 40y, 80k. You will want to put this on its own layer at the bottom of the stack and lock the layer to avoid inadvertently using the frame to hold something (see below). you can create this first, then make a new layer on top, or do it last and drag it to the bottom of the stack.
    Your image frames are drawn with the frame tool (the one WITH the X) . You could create an Object Style for them that includes the corner effect to save time. Frames drawn with the frame tool do not respect stroke and fill settings, but one of the nice things about ID is that your unassigned frames can be used to hold text or graphics, so you can also add a fill color to the object style and use the Shape tool (the same one you use for the background) instead of the frame tool if you find you need the white fill. And yes, you can copy and paste these smaller frames, or add them to a library, or save some sizes as snippets in a folder to drag into your poster. You can save a "blank" poster (just the background and the empty "cells" as a template and use the same layout for as many posters as you like, too.
    You will Place the images into the cells, unless you need to combine text and image (not already combined in the image) in the cell. For that you would place the image someplace convenient, like the pasteboard,and add text in a text frame or a text frame you've drawn to look like a speech baloon, then position the two as you want them relative to each other, select both, group, cut, select the cell frame, and "paste into."
    You'll find the online help at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/index.html
    I also recommend you buy a copy of Sandee Cohen's Visual QuickStart Guide to InDesign since you seem to be a real beginner.

  • Pasting Images w/out Background Help

    Hello All,
    I'm still learning InDesign and I have always had a problem with pasting images that have their background removed and are GIF or TIFF files and then once pasted into InDesign the white background appears again. I often open the image in photoshop, use the magic eraser to remove the white background and then save as a GIF or TIFF. Yet whenever pasted into InDesign the pesky white is back. Please help, I am open to options but would appreciate the easiest and most effective.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rene

    As Bob said, NEVER paste.
    But in case you are using "paste" as a shorthand for placing an image
    and are doing it correctly, another thought.
    When you save from Photoshop, are you electing to save transparency?
    That's an option on the save dialogue.

  • Metronome is being recorded faintly in background. help!

    ok, so here is my setup.
    i own a Tascam US-122 interface. i have that plugged into my macbook pro. i'm using logic express 9. i have an electric guitar plugged directly from the guitar into my interface. i am monitoring my audio through my Tascam US-122 interface with headphones.
    I go to record a track on my guitar, and of course, i want the metronome to play in the background for me while i record to stay on rhythm. so i turn it on and set it to my bpm.
    after i'm done recording the track, i got back to listen to it, and i can hear the metronome in the background of my guitar track! WHAT!?
    if you need any more information from me to help me solve this issue just let me know and i'll tell you.
    please help me! i'm just trying to record a simple song! i don't want a metronome in my song!

    bradhotdog wrote:
    In Preferences>Devices>Core Audio, instead of having TASCAM US-122 selected for >both my Output Device and Input Device, i decided to change my Output Device to >'Built-in Output'
    after I did that, i no longer get the metronome in the backgrounds of my audio >recordings.
    This make sense cause the Logic output i.e metronome is routed to the "Built - In Output" and can not be sticked to the TASCAM Recording Input. In other words the TASCAM Input is set to record "What you hear".
    Try to set the Preferences>Devices>Core Audio both I/O to TASCAM as they where by default but click the Input Device and see if there are more then one TASCAM inputs. If yes try all of them. Some audio devices has a regular Input option which can be named (IN type 1) and "What you hear" ( IN type 2) for example.
    Some interfaces use special software editors to switch between these types, have onboard hardware switchers or it can be set in the OS AMS dialog. It must be something around that...

  • Audio Waveform Background Help

    Whenever i apply an audio waveform to ANY layer, be it a solid, adjustment layer, or anything, the background of the waveform is black, so i can't add a background to my waveform, to make it look nice. Just as a kind of example, here is what i am looking to do:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40T9o7NAR9o
    except not as advanced. I can only get as far as the waveform, but i can't get ANY background whatsoever. If you don't believe me, try it yourself. Please help!

    You can put any background behind the waveform because it's transparent. Just add another layer. Almost any time you think you can't do something inAE you can by just adding another layer.
    Here's waveform over a gradient ramp masked to reveal a movie of my dog on a walk.
    Sounds like you are very new to AE. Please go through the basics. Layering and masking are just two of about 50 tools you'll need to master to be effective.

  • Scaling background help!!!

    Hi everyone, i'm trying to figure out how to do a background
    in flash that scales with the window but doesn't show any scroll
    bars. Like here: dstripe.com
    How big do I make the stage so that it will take up the
    entire window? Does the background go into the html or into the
    flash? Help! Please!

    if(stage.stageHeight<=BACKGROUND.height){
         BACKGROUND.width = (stage.stageHeight/BACKGROUND.height)*BACKGROUND.width;
         BACKGROUND.height = stage.stageHeight;
         BACKGROUND.x = (stage.stageWidth -BACKGROUND.width)/2
         BACKGROUND.y = (stage.stageHeight -BACKGROUND.height)/2
    }else{
         BACKGROUND.x = stage.stageWidth/2 - BACKGROUND.width/2
         BACKGROUND.y = stage.stageHeight/2 - BACKGROUND.height/2
    Try that. I'll keep thinking about this to see if i can find a better solution.

  • The ipad is displaying a message saying "cannot connect to itunes store" and everything else is in the background, help plzz????

    everything is in the backgroung i can't tap on anything, i even tried to put it on sleep mode or shut it down it doesn't work because it's in the background and i can't slide.plz help!!!

    Apparently there has been an issue with the App Store for the past few days, so you are not the only one that has reported this problem. I was having the same issue yesterday, but I can use the search feature fine today
    Try this for now. Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
    Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to search again.
    Or try this....
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Flash Background help

    Hello, right now i am working on a first person shooter, not one of those ones seen on youtube where the gun moves and the background stays in place, but vice versa. Right now i'm trying to rig it so when you press the "UP" key you'll open a menu where you cant shoot, aim.etc I got 1 problem, how do i rig it so that when i pres up, the background stops moving? The code i'm using for the background is:
    onClipEvent(enterFrame){
    Mouse.hide();
    this._x =-_root._xmouse+400;
    this._y =-_root._ymouse+200;
    Please help!
    BTW, you can chech out the beta of this game at Newgrounds.com, by the user: HarryboEntertainment

    One way to control execution of code is to introduce a conditional.
    onClipEvent(enterFrame){
       if(allowMovement){
          Mouse.hide();
          this._x =-_root._xmouse+400;
          this._y =-_root._ymouse+200;
    So when you press the UP key you would set the allowMovement variable to false, and whatever you do to resume play would set it true again.  You may need to adjust targeting the variable.
