Background Image Won't Stay!

Okay, I repaired disk permissions, repaired the disk and reinstalled the system (archive and install)
If I change my background image it only stays until I switch spaces. Then I go back to the background prefs and it is as if I never changed it. It always reverts to the Space pic. The only way to change it is to go to /System/Library/CoreServices and replace DefaultDesktop.jpg with the image I want... it's kinda annyoing to do this. How can I fix it?

delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and log out/in. then try changing the desktop background again.

  • Wrapper div background image won't appear in browser...

    Hi All,
    Here's a link to the test site:
    http://www.davidcoshdesign.com/test/tee
    If you go to 'About' – top right nav, there should be two vertical 'lines' running all the way down the page(s), either side of the main body copy.
    All the pages are created from the same template.
    It's a repeating background image in the #wrapper div.  I can see it DW, but not in any browsers.
    I guess it's not linking somehow... but can't figurte it out.
    Also, the layouts on the 'Partners and 'Philosophy' pages 'jump' when you go to them.  Again, I guess there's an error in the code somewhere...
    Any help with these two things would be very much appreciated.
    RP

    Change this -
    #wrapper {
        background-repeat: repeat;
        background-image: url(assets/images/columnedge.jpg);
        font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 14px;
        font-style: normal;
        line-height: 19px;
        font-weight: normal;
        color: #999;
        text-decoration: none;
        width: 980px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: auto;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
        margin-left: auto;
        height: auto;
    to this -
    #wrapper {
        background-repeat: repeat;
        background-image: url(assets/images/columnedge.jpg);
        font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 14px;
        font-style: normal;
        line-height: 19px;
        font-weight: normal;
        color: #999;
        text-decoration: none;
        width: 980px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: auto;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
        margin-left: auto;
        height: auto;
       overflow:hidden;
    You need to clear the floats so that div#wrapper will contain the contents.  To fix the jumping, add this to your CSS -
    html { overflow-y:scroll; }

  • Folder background color won't stay

    Help would definitely be appreciated for this one. It's frustrating. I want the backgrounds of my folders to be different colors, simply for the look, but every time I change the color and leave the folder - I will come back to that folder and it will have a different color applied. Any ideas what's causing this or how to control it?

    for my part, i can say : yes. all folders for which the background color is set.
    closing and reopening switches color.
    switching from "this window" to "all windows" and back also triggers the alternation of colors in the "this window" mode.
    steps :
    - create folder
    - open it
    - set icon view
    - set color background for "this window"
    - close it
    - open it again
    or, after setting color background:
    - switch to "all windows"
    - switch to "this window"
    ...while doing this you may withness another strange behavior: each time the folder window opens, its position is offseted right and down, until it goes back to its intial position and the cycle starts over.

  • Images won't stay linked in Premiere Pro CS5

    A simple slide show has always been so easy.  Then I upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and bought a new super computer with all the bells and whistles.  Now I can't even do a slide video.  I've got a couple hundred slides.  I import the links into Premiere and pretty soon some of them start getting confused.  The thumbnail looks great then I open it in the source window and it's the wrong image.  Sometimes just the thumbnail changes and the image remains the same.  Sometimes they both change.  I've tried using smaller groups.  Moving the photos from one drive to another. I even moved the project file.  I've tried taking them off-line and then re-linking them.  I've moved them from one file to another and then tried relinking.  I've re-imported the photos and then modified them and re-saved them (this worked sometimes). These are all J-PEGs of all sizes (300k to 6megs). Once the link changes the only way to make it right is to totally remove the old image and re-import it. This happens even before I put the photos on the line. I've been using Premiere in one iteration or another for over ten years and I'm baffled.  (I do love the fact that when it does work EVERYTHING renders on the fly!)  Thanks for your help.

    Todd... I actually went through and re-saved everything using MS Picture Manager (seemed a lot quicker than PS) and that helped most of the photos.  I like the answer from Haubitz just below yours in the thread about the XMD check box.  Anyway, the problem described is EXACTLY the problem I'm having down to the fact that it felt like part of the problem was a stuck cache.  That is such an obscure setting.  I've been through MANY Premiere tutorials before and never heard anything about it.  It was never a problem on CS3. (Sorry... I thought this posted a while ago.  Apparently not.)

  • How to add a link in a header created only of a background image

    Hi, I created my website with CSS in Dreamweaver. Here is a sample page:
    http://www.bfranklincrafts.com/NewSite/BonneyLCalendar.html
    The header is created with a background image. How do I put in a link in the header that when they click on Ben Franklin Crafts & Frames would take them to the home page? I have nothing to attach my link to?!?!
    Thanks.
    Liolee

    Putting a clearpixel or transparent.gif over your background image won't work very well if CSS is turned off.
    My preference would be to take your Business Name out of the background image and replace it with real text inside an <h1> tag in the foreground - where it will be visible to search engines, screen readers and translators.

  • Image Adjustments won't stay on

         Hey everybody, I'm Steven! I'm working on a sci-fi mural spacescape for my art class, and I'm having a bit of difficulty in the star scape area. See, whenever I do anything in the "Image > Adjustments" tab at the top of Photoshop, the preview on my page makes it look just how I want it, but after I click OK, or Apply, it either goes right back to how it was before I did the adjustment, or it does it to a degree, it just goes back halfway.
    For instance, when I click "add noise", then go to Image > Adjustments > Levels to thin the noise out to resemble stars, as a base layer to my starscape, and get it perfect, with the right amount of contrast and everything, when I click OK, it just goes back to big ugly noise. Now, I've added adjustment layers, but those effect everything under them, and I kind of need this to be specific. I've tried changing my mode to 32, 16 and 8 bit, as well as from RGB to CYMK and others. If anyone could help me out, I'd be really grateful! Thanks!
    (P.S. I'm using CS4, if that helps)
    Steven.

       Well, I did have one file that looked similar to it in the directory I was opening it from, so to be safe, I moved it and tried again, but it didn't work. The thing is, when I do Image > Adjustments, the preview on my actual canvas looks good, but when I click OK to lock it in, it just goes back to the way it was before, or kinda how I wanted it, but only a fraction, like half power. And when I save it, it also won't stay on. It will keep effect if I add an adjustments layer, and give me the desired effect, but it affects all the layers below it, not just the one I want, and it will revert to what it was before the effect if I save it as anything but a .PSD, for instance a .PNG, it will go back to white noise, not stars, just like Image > Adjustments. I did both Save and Save As, but they both had the same outcome. Haha, it seems I've really gotten myself in a pickle. Thanks for helping me out -
    -Steven

  • Won't display background image in browser.

    My background image displays in dreamweaver and in the live view but it doesn't display in the browser when I try to view in a browser or when I publish the website.  I have spend hours looking for a solution and I am not sure what the problem is. I have checked the code on the following websites and it comes out ok:
    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator
    http://validator.w3.org/check
    I have also tried my code with and without the overflow: hidden;  under #container where the image should be displayed.  (i was trying a new way to design -ie without basic grid and floating everything so the container can be removed if needed)
    here is my code. Please help!!! thank you in advance!!!

  • How to setup jpeg file as background image for all site pages and resolution stay same?

    I have uploaded my new site to http://wwwtjhtestdec2012.businesscatalyst.com
    I have background image set the same on all site pages  but image is incorrectly zoomed way in on some pages (like Home page for example).
    The Donate Page shows the correct resolution which I want displayed on all site pages.
    How do I set all other site pages to match background image resolution of the Donate Page?
    I am not sure what I am doing wrong that is changing this, or if it's possibly a bug?
    I want the background image to be full screen on all site pages please advise how to resolve.
    I would appreciate the assistance!
    Thank you kindly!
    Tammy

    I have re-uploaded my site to http://wwwtjhtestdec2012.businesscatalyst.com.
    If I set the Master page to Tile vertically that is only way I can get full screen background image of vegetables (without distortion).
    Then however another issue occurs....
    On Home Page of site I set same property to Tile and the background is better (no visible line where tiles meet---above the navigation tool bar--that is what I want for all pages associated to Master.
    So logically, I tried setting a 2nd associated site page to same master, to Tile but on Statement of Faith Page, notice the horizontal line where tiles meet, above my navigation bar on that site page?
    Why does Muse not handle both site pages associated to the same master identically?
    Any of the other options besides Tile or Tile vertically cause the background to not fill entire screen.
    Ideas?

  • Page won't center on background image

    I am having some trouble centering my page on a background image.  Here is my CSS for my body.  I thought the left and right margins set to auto should center the page.  The site can be found at http://www.findlaypopcorn.com the CSS is in index.css ( attached)
    body {      background-color: #ffffff;      margin-left:auto;      margin-right:auto;      width:796px;      padding:0px;      background-image: url(images/kernelsunpopped.JPG);      background-repeat: no-repeat;      background-attachment: fixed; } Please help

    It is centered for me in Chrome, Firefox and IE 7 on Vista.
    What browser/OS do you not see it centered for?

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
    .content {
        padding-top: 50px;
        padding-right: 0;
        padding-bottom: 10px;
        padding-left: 0;
    /* ~~ The footer ~~ */
    .footer {
        padding: 10px 0;
        background-color: #FF0000;
        color: #CCC;
    /* ~~ miscellaneous float/clear classes ~~ */
    .fltrt {  /* this class can be used to float an element right in your page. The floated element must precede the element it should be next to on the page. */
        float: right;
        margin-left: 8px;
    .fltlft { /* this class can be used to float an element left in your page. The floated element must precede the element it should be next to on the page. */
        float: left;
        margin-right: 8px;
    .clearfloat { /* this class can be placed on a <br /> or empty div as the final element following the last floated div (within the #container) if the #footer is removed or taken out of the #container */
        clear:both;
        height:0;
        font-size: 1px;
        line-height: 0px;
    .header img {
        display: block;

    It's caused by this CSS rule:
    ul, ol, dl { /* Due to variations between browsers, it's best practices to zero padding and margin on lists. For consistency, you can either specify the amounts you want here, or on the list items (LI, DT, DD) they contain. Remember that what you do here will cascade to the .nav list unless you write a more specific selector. */
        padding: 0;
        margin: 0;
    Try adding this to your CSS, adjust values to suit:
    .content li {
    margin-left: 45px;
    padding-left: 25px;
    line-height: 1.5;

  • Resolution won't stay on "Default for display" setting upon restart

    I have a Macbook Pro 13" 2014 edition with Yosemite.
    I have a problem in that my Macbook won't stay on the "Default for Display" option upon re-starting... Each time I restart the machine, I have to manually select this option (and then it works fine). Upon reboot, it always starts up as "Scaled". What can I do to make it start up as "Default for Display"?
    I noticed this problem started happening a few weeks ago when I had connected my MBP to an external projector. I did have to change around the display settings then. But now that I don't have it connected to any external display, i'd like it to default to "Default for Display" upon re-starting.

    Thanks for that... It led to me solving the issue.
    If you care to know the full story... Once I did those steps, I realized something important I didn't notice before... Upon restart, the machine would indeed to startup in "best for display"... You can tell by the "high resolution" of the background image and dock-icons, etc... The screen would then flicker for a second and would go to "low resolution". That led me to thinking it was one of my startup apps that was causing the problem... And thus not related to my connecting to a projector like I thought, nor to the actual restart of the machine itself. I then discovered the problem app ("iDisplay") and removed it from my "login apps"... and problem solved.
    Thanks!

  • Anchored graphic as background image?

    I am working with text flowing continuously through a master text frame unto multiple pages and I am trying to anchor a full-page background image (with bleed) onto specific pages. Is this possible?
    I want the background image to stay with the relevant heading on each page. However, when I use "Object/Anchored Object/Insert" to do this with "custom" as the anchor option I end up with a frame on the same layer as my text. This is okay, but when I place an image in the frame, it covers the text I have entered in the text frame. I can see the dotted line indicating the anchor connection, but not the text it is anchored to. I can't change the order of objects within the layer because the "Arrange" options are greyed out. Changing the text wrap options does not help.

    Thanks Bob! Really good to know. I will stop hitting my head against a brick wall!
    Adding backgrounds to master pages doesn't really cut it since I still can't have them flow dynamically with the continually evolving text in this project. (I suspect I might be able to flow backgrounds with text in Word, if it came to it, but of course I chose InDesign to give me more control, particularly over the non-text elements of the layout).

  • How to get background image to fill the browser and remain fixed in both IE and Firefox?

    Basically what it says in the title. I've come very close in achieving this but something just doesn't tie up in the html and css code...
    First of all, I'm using IE8 and the latest version of Firefox to test this.
    I used 2 sources of information for getting this done: 1) http://css-tricks.com/perfect-full-page-background-image/ and 2) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8958697/css3-background-size-cover-doesnt-make-image-co ver-vertically
    In Case 1 the example on the page called CSS-Only Technique #1 gives code that works almost perfectly for me, except that obviously I need a background image, however the CSS provided there is clearly just for an image dropped in the body of a page with no regard for other content that may already be there. The html code that I put on the page is simply <img class="bg" src="../images/background_image.jpg">
    Obviously I used the CSS code provided in the example, minus the last bit which is "@media screen" etc etc, which seems irrelevant to me. Obviously substituting values to suit the image on my page.
    So what happened is that it almost worked as intended in both the browsers (which means the image filled both browsers width-wise as intended and also remained fixed when I zoomed in or out in each case) except that the image went over the top of the current content that I had there already precisely because it's not a background in this "technique". (A curious side-note is that the image didn't push down the content, as I'd have expected in normal circumstances, but went right over the top of it so it hid it (like z-index).
    One thing that does bother me about this "technique" is that if you click on View Demo just below the code provided you will see on the working example page (forest background) the image clearly works as a background and the content sits happily on top! So I don't know whether the person providing the example was trying to mislead people or what! Or he got lazy and showed a different page that didn't use the exact code he provided. No matter.
    In any case this leaves me with the job only half finished, as I still need a background image that works like the 'normal image' code provided.
    On to Case 2 and on this page the first example provided gives the CSS for the background image - namely the code within html {...} part and also shows the same 'normal image' code as given in Case 1. In this case however, although the person provided a suggestion, the css and html doesn't really tie up properly plus some of the css and html seems a bit redundant. So this time when I used the 'html portion' of the CSS code (i.e. just the bit that was most relevant) I got two different behaviours in each browser and neither of which was quite what I'm looking for. In IE8 initially the page looks fine (background fills the page and content is on top) however when I zoom in or out the background also zooms in or out accordingly so is NOT fixed. In Firefox the background image DOES stay fixed, however because the image originally is not the whole height of the browser I'm guessing the code stretches it downwards (while keeping proportions - so the image essentially enlarges) to fill all of it. The quick way to get around it is to probably add some white space to the bottom of the image just to give it enough height that it doesn't stretch/resize automatically. But it would be nice to find out anyway how to get around this in the code. Overall I would say that the result in Firefox comes closest to the desired solution but of course it doesn't help matters with IE8.
    Apologies for the lengthy description but that should at least provide plenty info for anybody that might have a possible solution for me. Essentially what would be great is if somebody could advise me how to take the code from Case 1 and apply it to a 'background' piece of coding like the type that's contained within html {...} in Case 2. Like I said, it's so nearly there but I just can't make it work atm after trying to combine the various bits of code this way and that... Alternatively, if somebody has another html-css version that works nicely for achieving this then please by all means let me know! Thanks v much in advance!

    This works in modern CSS3 supporting browsers.  But not pre-IE9.
