Background job administration (SM37)

Hi to all,
I would like to know how to schedule job that will run every 15 minutes, each day, but only from 7 AM to 6 PM.
Thank you for your answers,
best regards,
Duu0161ko u0160orak

Hi DuleZG,
Which version of SAP you are using?
In ECC 6.0 (tcode : SM36) we have a checkbox "Periodic job" , below which you have a command button labelled "Period values".On clicking this we can specify the frequency at which the periodic job can be executed."At operation Mode" tab doesn't have this functionality. It is only available in "Date/Time".
If you are using the Job wizard, when you reach the step to Define a job's start date and start time" ,check the Periiodic Job checkbox and press continue. The next screen will be the  Job periodicity screen where you can specify the duration as 15mins.

How to find process chain using background job in sm37

Better is to select the job.
Select (Define) Step (s) or F6.
Select the line and Menu Goto>Variant.
The variant contains the name of the CHAIN and its VARIANT.
    Success
We faced an old job and via job monitoring we were informed about a cancelled job every 'interval'.
We noticed that the related chain was deleted but still the job was scheduled each interval again and was cancelled because an event was missing
We could not find the scheduled job via SM37.
Via view V_OP, view over tbtco abd tbtcp, we find the related entry.
We delete these entries via function BP_JOB_DELETE....

  • ODS Activation - Background Job in SM37 is still active

    Hello Gurus,
When I try to activate an ODS Request, the START button is disabled. Then when I select JOBS button on the same screen, it shows the previous ODS activation job with ACTIVE status. But the previous job is already showing as ready for reporting with no problems. Is there any setting where the START button is enabled after the completion of the background job
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
There is no setting to enable to START button , it will be enabled automatically once the activation job is completed. Did you check if the activation job that was running was for the latest request? You can check this by looking into the job log where the request ID will be available. Sometimes even if the activation job is running in the background, the request in the ODS will still be in green status-not available for reporting and you tend to think that the activation has not started or the activation for the previous request is still running.
First check the request ID in the job log to ensure which request is being activated and if the activation is completed. After this you can either stop the job or let it run based on the situation.

  • Background Jobs in SM37

    Hi frnds,
I've an active job running, which i've scheduled for daily and the job frequency is 2 hrs.
The job is running for 2 days but it's successor jobs are in finished status as it is triggered for every 2 hr.
The job which was running still for 1 day I'm not able to see in SM50,  but is still active in sm37.
Could anyone suggest what i've to do.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kumar

    Hi Kumaresh,
Some times the Jobs will be hang up due to system problems, even that you can see the Jobs in SM50,But in your case it is not visible in SM50.The successor jobs got finished as they are scheduled for 2 hours.
Now what you can do is cancel the active job which is running for twodays and again run the job .

    Hi SDNSAP
For example you have triggered a DTP which is having parallel processing as 10 with serial and immediate parallel processing as processing mode, then you can see maximum of 9 data packets are running.
All these 9 data packets will with job BIDTPR_1236023_1 individually, i mean that each packet will have one job with BIDTPR_1236023_1. whenever few packets are finished their respective job status will be finished.

  • How to de-schedule a background job?

    Dear all,
I have scheduled a background ABAP report titled ZHRWFIT19 at SM36 to trigger a workflow.
Initially I scheduled this background job to 9 A.M.
Later I changed to schedule this background job to 10 A.M at SM37.
Now my workflow triggers twice i.e., at 9 A.M. once and 10 A.M once.
I want it to start at 10 A.M. only.Though I changed the schedule time to 9 A.M. to 10 A.M, still my background job triggers the
         workflow at 9 A.M. and 10 A.M.
How to de-schedule this background report at 9 A.M.?
Please suggest for which I will be grateful forever.
    Thanks and regards,
    S.Suresh

    Dear Shastri,
Thank you so much for your reply.
As you have rightly pointed, I have 2 entries with same background job at SM37.That's why my workflow triggers twice. Now I want to permanently delete the background job entry at SM37 which triggers my workflow at 9 A.M.
I couldn't delete this entry at SM37 permanently. Please suggest me how to permanently delete the entry that triggers the workflow at 9 A.M., for which I will grateful.
    Thanks and regards,

Checking your program Background Job Status
Checking  your job status with SM50 (processor type BTC) is more accurate then SM37.  SAP updates the tables TBTCO wheneveryour background jobs status change.  If SAP is shutdown, the currentjobs might not be update ontime to the table. ( e.g. a background job wasshown as Active (SM37), in fact it real status should be Cancelled.
    The type of work process:
DIA  - work process for executing dialog steps in user transactions
UPD - update process for executing U1 (time-critical) database changes
UP2  - update process for executing U2 (non-critical) database changes
ENQ - for setting and releasing locks on SAP lock objects
BTC  - for executing background jobs
SPO  - for spool formatting processes
PID:  Process ID of the work process.

  • TDMS background jobs

    Dear experts,
    I've met with following issue:
When processing the phase of "Determine Tables to be Excluded from the Export" in shell creation, the status of the job is always displayed as green flag (Blank), which should be shown as "execution successfully completed".
    The actions I've taken:
    1. I've checked the background job via SM37, related backgournd job is released, however, it's always been delayed. Well, I'm not quite sure about the reason of delay...  So I deleted the job. However, the job is still shown as been scheduled in process tree.
    2. Then, I executed the report CNV_TDMS_13_SHELL_EXPORT_EXCTB mannually in SE38.
    3. After that, the status of job in process tree was shown as "execution successfully completed".
The question is, can I take the above steps to accellerate the export job process?
Besides, when I performed the next step "Export Exclude Tables", the same issue has been detected. However, job status cannot be shown as "execution successfully completed" in process tree after I've finished the mannual report execution.
    Thanks, Jett

    Hi Jett
It is not recommended to execute the underlying reports (for concerned activities) directly, except by SLO consultant. This is so because execution of an activity does not only executes the underlying report but also handles many other actions like status, log handling etc, which may not happen if the report is executed direcly.
General TDMS users are recommended to execute the activities from the process tree. Job being in the released state for long time may be system issue rather than a TDMS issue. So incase an activity is executed from the process tree but remains in the released state for long time without getting executed then we will recommend you to seek help from SAP support.
    Regards
    Pankaj.

  • Hung background job

User started a background job 1hr before offline backup started. Now background job in SM37 shows status as active BUT when I tried to cancel job, popup message said "Job is not Active - cancellation not possible!". So next, I decided to delete job, message said "job is active. The selected function cannot be performed".  In SM50, I cannot find any BGD process being used.
So, user has started new job today and that job is for sure running because it is using process type BGD.
How to I get rid of the 1st job??
    Thanks;
    Huda

    hi,
I think you already cancelled the job in SM37 and tries to cancel it mulitple times thats y it is showing job is not active.
Ok regarding the SM50, if you are not seeing any background job in SM50 that means job got cancelled already don't worry about it. It will not get updated so quickly in SM37 but I am sure that it got cancelled.
go to SM51 and check there also is there any sessions with you user id?

You will get the list of background jobs in SM37.
It seems that these jobs are not being scheduled by your user ID.

    Dear all ,
Kindly check the ST22 error logs .
Short text SQL error occurred in the database when accessing a table. What happened? The database system detected a deadlock and avoided it by rolling back your transaction. What can you do? If possible (and necessary), repeat the last database transaction in the hope that locking the object will not result in another deadlock. Note which actions and input led to the error. For further help in handling the problem, contact your SAP administrator . You can use the ABAP dump analysis transaction ST22 to view and manage termination messages, in particular for long term reference. Error analysis The database system recognized that your last operation on the database would have led to a deadlock. Therefore, your transaction was rolled back to avoid this.
