Background Layer colors and images

I just made the switch from gimp to Freehand. After reading
the instruction booklet, the only real problem I'm having is
setting the background. I'd like to make a gradient background, but
I can't figure out how to make any background whatsoever show up.
Even when I select a new color for the color box, the page remains
white. Any help would be appreciated.

Since you are coming from GIMP you are still thinking in
terms of Bitmap
Editors. Freehand is very different and you have to change
your way of
thinking. The white box is not a background, it is an empty
page. You
place items on that page according to what you want it to
look like. If
you want a color to fill the entire page then draw a
rectangle the size
of the page and apply your color/gradient to the rectangle.
FYI: When placing items in Freehand, it does have layers like
Photoshop
(does Gimp?) but they work differently. In Freehand multiple
items can
exist on the same layer without destructing/changing other
items on that
layer. So if your background rectangle goes on the same layer
as
something else you may find yourself accidentally sending the
other item
behind the background or the background in front of the item.
Thinking
in bitmap editing terms you may think the item is wiped
out/gone, but
it's not. Just send the background behind it again. You can
eliminate
these problems by setting up different layers for different
categories
of items, background, text, graphics, etc. You can then lock
layers so
that you don't accidentally grab onto items that you don't
want moved,
such as the background.
Look out for the "Background" layer that appears by default.
See that
bar right above it in the Layers Panel that separates it from
Guides and
Foreground? That's a printing bar. Anything below the bar
will not
print and will be represented as ghosted image in the
preview. So if
you intend to use the Background layer for your background I
suggest
that you move the Background layer above the bar and under
the
Foreground layer. Lock the Background layer and then place
items on
your Foreground layer.

  • Help! How to make background layer colored

Hi. I have been reading the help section but can't find my
answer. Hope someone can help me.
How do you make the background layer of an image COLORED?
Especially, how do you make the background a colored GRADIENT FILL?
For example, on layer #1 I have just an abstract design of shapes.
I want a background layer#2 to be a separate SOLID fill of color,
    or a gradient fill.
The only way I have figured out how to remotely do this is if I draw
a rectangle, then stretch it out to edge of "canvas", then fill it w/color
but the edges never line up perfectly. Isn't there a better way? Thank you so much!

    Thx for your quick reply.
Really? Wow, well that is good to know then. I used to use
Illustrator yrs. ago and now I am kind of re-learning it. I just remembered-
couldn't one create a layer, then select the "paint bucket" tool, pick a color,
then fill a background that way? Maybe I am thinking of Photoshop....

  • Colors and images on itunes U site not displaying correctly.

After the issues of not being able to login this weekend our site has dropped much of it's theming, including colors and images. The page/course thumbnails still show as well as the background image, but all the other areas look like they are missing the background images. Is anyone else having the same issues with their site. This is the original "private" site, not the new PSM version.
    Thanks,

  • Background layer seizes added images.

I am trying to create a photo collage by scratch (not using "Collage"). First I create a new blank page for the background and save it. It is shown as "locked" with a padlock. Then I open an image file (.jpg) to add to the background layer, and I get a message that I need to unlock the background layer so I click to unlock it. However the added image locks onto the background layer and doesn't make a new layer. If I open another image file it locks on top of the others.

The Layers panel only shows the layer(s) belonging to the currently active file. You need to arrange your image windows so that you can see your composite image as well as the source. With the source image active the Layers panel will show the source - click and drag that layer to the composite.
So in the following, the violet image is the active image and I drag its layer to the white image I've created for my collage. In the composite image with the new layer selected I can position it where I want. Select each of the other images in turn and do the same. Refer to my previous note, you can also do this with Copy & Paste.
When finished, your composite image and its Layers panel will look like this:

  • How do I change the appearance of password page on Yosemite? Not my desktop or screen saver but when I wake my computer up and put in my password. The Yosemite colors and images are awful! Thank you.

Appearance of Yosemite password page - how to change it from the automatic one?
I can't remember what previous operating systems showed at this point but I do not remember being disturbed by it every time I woke my computer up as I am now!
It's not my desktop or screensaver but when I wake up my computer and am asked for my password.
    Thanks.

This is Fiona who asked the question. It's now been pointed out to me that the image is actually my desktop photo blurred. From close up I just saw contorted colors and blurred lines and hadn't linked it to my desktop photo!
Still would like to know the answer because I hate it. Any ideas anyone?

  • Working with Edge Animate, how do you change layer colors and and names of layers?

For many years, I have worked with Adobe Photoshop, and the ability to change layer color or the name of layers is quite easy. I have been reading around about how to do this with Edge, but, can't find any information on how I might be able to do this. Can you help?
    Thank you!

    Hi Darrell,
Thank you for your answer. When I double click on the layer name, it opens for a second, then closes. I have tried to close the app, shut down my workstation, throw out the preferences, and, nothing seems to work. Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you, again, for your timly answer. Really appreciate your help.

  • Firefox 5 not printing background (colors and images) despit it's selection in Page Setup. Previous version worked fine.

I upgraded to FireFox 5, but it is not printing background (images and colors) for certain pages which previously printed fine with my earlier version. Print Preview DOES shows the background images, but when sent to printer or PDF, background images do not appear in the printed output.

I wish it were that but a long time ago when I had a problem with the gadgets with iGoogle back 6 months ago thereabouts I was asked to disable it then and I did and I just went to re-check and it is still not enabled, however, it will not let me un-install it though.. It only gives me an option to enable or disable.. Any advice ? So I'm wondering if it is something else still or is there a problem with the avast still ?
thanks again for your help. Mind you that this all started when blogger went down ..

  • Table background colors and images

This should be easy, but I am not seeing it. I have a few pages with existing tables, probably created in DW CS3. In DW CS4, I need to select a table inside a cell of another table and assign a solid color for the background. Currently, the larger table has a textured background image and it is also filling the background of the table inside it.
I can easily select the smaller table, but I don't see the old familiar information bar where I'd assign a color to the entire table.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    M. Jackson

    Hi Nancy O,
I started a long time ago with Adobe Page Mill, then had to move to GoLive, and later into DW.
The appeal of Page Mill was the GUI, letting a non-programmer make web pages visually, and letting the program write the code for me. Each upgrade have moved farther from that concept in my opinion.
I just want to add tables and if DW wants to apply CSS to them, then fine. Maybe I will have to learn to do it in CSS, but it is not high on my current list of priorities. I'd prefer to spend most of my learning time in Photoshop. For now, I have quite a few pages that just need some tweaking and I don't have the extra time to dig into this venture.
Thanks for taking the time to try to counsel me.  A couple of my photographer friends have suggested looking into Site Grinder as a plug-in to Photoshop. As I read the reviews, the artist group think it is the greatest and the code writers say it is not great at writing code.
For now, I installed DW CS3 and made a few changes I can live with. CSS some other day or some other way.
    Best regards,
    M. Jackson

  • Changing the background color and image of CRM logon page

  • Update on background colors and images

The previous question was about why the background color tags
were not displaying on one of the monitors.
    Hello All,
this is what I found on the Adobe site.
IE will not display background images if the cells were
combined before the background tag was assigned. DW will put the
image path inside the <tr>. I need to redefine it to the
    <td>.
So this brings up another question: The other monitors using
IE are rendering the background fine. This monitor is a DVI used
for recording TV. The others are VGA monitors. Are there other
concerns with these different monitors? (Remember the good old days
when we only worried about different browsers?!)
Reading the code, it shows the background tags within the
    <td>; any other suggestions?!

i doubt if monitors have anything to do with it - except for
    resolution and
hence, the amount or width/height of content displayed.
Seems to be more a browser interpretation of the code... so,
    is the DVI
monitor using the same version of IE or a different version?

  • Mixing CSS colors and image files from Photoshop for web

    Hello,
I recently encountered a web production color issue and wanted to collaborate with other web producers to either inform or to see if there isn't a better work-around....
A web site design has a particular color palette and some elements are converted to HTML/CSS colors (rgb hex values) and other elements must be saved as images--both with the same exact color appearance. We graphics professionals know that generally all images should have the color profile indicated (embedded, tagged) in the image file (e.g., sRGB, Adobe RGB or whatever) in our color-managed workflow so that the color numbers have meaning. For web, I've always used sRGB (the web standard) and tagged the images with the sRGB color profile.
Historically, this probably hasn't mattered because no web browser cared about the image profiles anyway. However, recently, some browsers have started to implement color-management. This is good for pictures and such, but poses a problem for web graphic elements: the images are rendered in the color-managed sRGB, yet the CSS is still rendered outside of color-management (the so-called monitor or "device" profile?). Therefore, if a web page design's color palette is to be honored, the HTML/CSS hex colors must appear the same as the matching hex colors embedded in the images. However, modern browsers now render the colors in the color-profile-tagged/embedded images differently, so the colors on the rendered pages no longer match!
My work around has been to NOT tag (embed) the web-element image files with any color profile and thus cause the modern browsers to do what they used to: render the images without a color profile just like they render HTML/CSS hex colors. Perhaps in the future, there will be an HTML specification to inform the web browser to render all colors (HTML/CSS/images) in a particular color profile. (In my cursory testing, I've found that current Safari and Chrome for Windows 7 do alter the tagged-image appearances, yet Safari in iOS does not.)
Have other web producers run in to this issue and are there more eloquent work-arounds?

I'm a big partisan of Sg (yea, like ... no cr*p ) and it's one of my favorite programs not just to work in (yes, I do this for professional purposes) but to play in just because ... it's dang fun. Unfortunately it's not a big enough part of my business that I can spend all day in it but oh well. That said ... you have an interesting workflow. Intriguing.
And combining DNG files, tiffs, and a ton of key-framing I'm wondering if Sg really is your best bet, or if AfterEffects might not serve better. I think it has better ability in some of the formats and it's key-framing tracking is vastly better than Sg's is currently. You might post this also over in the Ae forum and see what gets suggested there.

  • Customizing Text, Color, and Images (Planning)

    I have read this link
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/hp_admin/frameset.htm?ch13.html
and traying to do it in my app but i can't found where HspCustomImgs_en.template loacted
Any one know where is the position of this file in Hyperion 11.1.2?
    Thanks

    Hi Theresia,
It sounds like you need to redeploy the Planning web app on WL: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/index.html#deploymentfiles
As far as tomcat goes, here's a little background:
Tomcat doesn't have an 11.1.2 - as far as I can tell Tomcat is not an Oracle product so doesn't carry the Oracle versioning. (Oracle does seem to own just about everything, so I could be wrong) This also means is not in configuration manager. Its a stand alone product that is basically a 'mini' weblogic of sorts.
Tomcat 6 will work fine. http://tomcat.apache.org/download-60.cgi
Here's the how to for deploying the war file:
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/deployer-howto.html
When the HyperionPlanning war file is deployed on Tomcat, it will automatically unzip everything into directories that make sense under the webapps\HyperionPlanning directory. Usually Tomcat out of the box will "auto deploy" your war - you just place it in the root of the webapps directory, start Tomcat and it will to the rest. Tomcat also defaults to port 8080, so it shouldn't interfere with the "real" planning app server running on that machine. If it does, just install Tomcat on your laptop, copy the war file over and work on it there.

  • Cannot get background Div colors to print

I am developing a site in DW and I cannot get background
colors to print in either a table or layer. This occurs in IE7 and
    Firefox.

    Hi,
You've turned on background colour printing in IE and
    Firefox, right?
    Print background colours (Internet Explorer):
With Internet Explorer open, click on Tools -> Internet
    Options... This will
open a dialogue box, where you will need to select the
    'Advanced' tab.
Scroll about half way down the settings list, and you will
    find a 'Printing'
setting. Tick the 'Print background colors and images'
    option. Then Click
    OK.
    Print background colours (Firefox):
With Firefox open, click on File -> Page Setup... This
    will open a dialogue
box, where you will need to select the 'Format & Options'
    tab. Tick the
'Print Background (colors & images)' option. Then Click
    OK.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

  • IWeb '08 Images Not Publishing and Image Distortion in Application

I created a website a couple of years ago and recently noticed two issues:
    1) Images I included on the site are now not showing up on the published site, but still appear in iWeb '08 app.
    2) Images and graphics in iWeb '08 app are barely showing up. It looks like images that were really over exposed, but the rest of my computer shows colors and images beautifully.
Anyone else run into these issues? How should I fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Actually, somehow, I just solved both problems. I opened up iWeb 9 and it seemed to resolve both issues. Sorry for any confusion.
