Background Menu Photo 854x480 too BIG in 16x9

Read the manual, the tips, etc.
Create a 16x9 iDVD 6 project, take a photo sized in Photoshop to the suggested size of 854x480 to use as background photo in opening simple menu. The photo is blown up, can move it a bit left/right, not up/down, but it's WAY oversized in the iDVD menu window itself.
Any tips? THanks.

"Try just dropping the image in the well to the Left of 'Loop Duration' (Option (1) above)."
FIRST, I want to say THANKS to all that contributed and stuck with me on what seems so simple a problem. I have done a few decent author jobs in DVDSP, but always love the idea of using the automation of iDVD for simple, dumb DVD's, no folders to setup, etc. Each time I learn some tricks in iDVD, a new version comes out, and I have to start over it seems. Earlier versions did not have the 16:9 option if I remember correctly, so here I am learning all over again. I really hate unsolved puzzles, sure I can pop in a black JPEG file and be done with it, and I assume this photo BG issue is not a bug since it seems to work for all you folks.
Any hoot, heres my TEST RESULTS:
Followed the directions exactly, always start with new project, selected "book-shelf" theme 16:9 format. Dropped my correctly sized image into the well. Dropped very short movie onto the screen. Saved as Video_TS image, burned in Toast.
Same "full screen" BG photo results on TV set from stand alone DVD player, in all three viewing choices I have in Apex menus.
At this point all I can suspect is the APEX DVD player not reading the 16:9 flag that iDVD should set for the BG photo. I've read there are some "bugs" where folks have to jump through some hoops for certain videos and photos, and must first use iMovie and then iDVD, to me that defeats the simplicity I am looking for in using iDVD in the first place, not sure if my problem falls in this catagory anyways.
Any other ideas of suggestions are welcome, at this point it could be something simple and that I have overlooked, or something with my player. If I load the Video_TS in apple's DVD player on the computer, the window stays 16:9 format size, that's what makes the whole mystery more puzzling.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm always willing to give em a try and report back.

  • Photos Are Too Big

    Good morning.
I've just started exploring the possibility of making a photo album in iPhoto. When I place a photo on a full page, the photos are too big for the 'frame'- that is, the frame crops part of my photos off. I have tried using the resizing tool but find that the photos are already resized to their smallest.
Is there another way to deal with this problem?
    Thanks,
    BurntMonkey

    John:
iPhoto puts up that warning when the resolution of the image falls below 180 dpi. A lot would depend on how far it falls below. They will not appear as good as they do on screen but that goes for all of the photos. The monitor display usually has more contrast and snap than the printed version. But that's not to mean the printed version doesn't or won't look good.
You can approximate the dpi of the photo for the frame that's giving the warning. The pages are 8.5 x 11. Estimate the size of the frame and divide the frame's dimension into the pictures corresponding pixel dimension.
What are the pixel dimensions of a typical photo that's giving you the warning sign and what page layout/frame are the in?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Ideas for HELP sizing a background menu photo in iDVD6

Hey gang. I'm authoring in iDVD6 and have a photo with DVD credits that I want to display as a menu background. iDVD6 tells you to size your photos for NTSC 4:3 at 720 x 540 pixels. However, when I drop it onto the menu, it automatically enlarges the image so that there's only a partial view of the image. The only adjustment that can be made is vertically. I've even tried shrinking the image with text and mounting it on a matte so that it appears in the TV safe viewing area, but no luck there. Same thing happens. Any ideas? If someone want to mess around with the image, let me know and i'll email it to you. Thanks. -nate

    hi nate,
i use photoshop to create my idvd backgrounds.
I size the backgrounds at 720 x 534 pixels in photoshop,
    and "save as" .jpg.
they fit my idvd menu perfectly.
    no re-sizing needed!
    hope this helps

  • Photo's too big for sending

I have a blackberry Z10 which is getting better and better with each update, if only I had a an app for google and RBS I would be proper sorted.
One other annoyance is that I use the camera a lot for work items that need to be emailed to people and my last Blackberry did that very quickly because the pictures were of lowere quality.
But because the BB Z10 pictures are of high quality big files, I have to faff about with the photos reducing the size of them before sending, this takes up lots of valuable time.
I downloaded photo studio to do this, but really the smartphone camera should give me an option of what size to send before I click the button.
Is there an easy fix for this?

It's not odd , I didn't mention it because I wasn't sure if I was in photo suite when that happened but now you've confirmed it came from the BB update.
Yea, the option was there, I've used, and like you, now it's gone.  I am asking around.

  • Photo sizes too big to send

You will know from this question that I am totally new to this.
I just started working with my brand new Mac, and I'm used to PC's. In the photo program I'm used to, I can double click on a photo and that brings be to a place where I can resize the photo so I can easily e-mail it. I can't find a way to do the same thing in iPhoto.
    Help?

If you're using Apple's Mail program, you can just go ahead and select the photos and click on Mail.
The photos will appear gigantic, and on the bottom of the message you'll see the estimated message size. Next to that is a popup that says "Actual size". You can change that to small, medium or large, and Mail will automatically resize the photos for emailing, and you will see that in the message size estimate.
It's the coolest feature I've used in Mail, I don't have to bother with scaling, exporting, or dialog boxes at all.

  • I tried to change the photo on the first page and all the photos seam too big. Why

    Hi
I upgraded my iPone 4 to ios 7. on the front page, the clock and date appeared on the photo I have there. I edited the photo so it will be less aide and less high and tried to put it on the front page (the page before the home page). the photo was suddenly huge and did'nt match the size of the screen. Why?
How can I put the old photo so it will match the size of the screen?
Will appreciate a detailed answer. (i am not an expert in computers...).
    Tanks!

That's because you need to sign out of it on iTunes, and Facebook isn't integrated with your Apple ID so you will need to add your new email manually to your Facebook account.

  • How do I adjust background image, it is too big

Hi I am very new to DW.  I am completing a portfolio project that is due very soon.  I just realized that the background image that I created in Photoshop is extremely large so when a user scrolls to the right there is empty screen.  I would like to have nothing to the right or not even an option to scroll right. hope that makes sense.  Is there a way to adjust so that it will only fill the screen instead of going over more?  I put in a screenshot.  Thanks for your help.

Ben I put that code in but it cleared the background off totally, what did I do wrong? Thank you

  • Photo Booth too big...

I'm a new mac user, (3 days!) when I load photobooth I can't see the thumbnails at the bottom. On windows I'd just drag to make it smaller - how do I do this on mac?

I did not know there was a PhotoBooth upgrade. I thought Leopard just had version 2.02 and that was it.
Anyway when something goes wrong, one wishes things were the way they were previously. Wishing aside, this is possible by restoring something from a backup, or in this case reinstalling the application from your Install DVD.
If you have Time Machine, you can locate the older version, select it and choose Restore.
It would also be possible to reinstall the older (if it does indeed exist) version of PhotoBooth from your Install DVD using Pacifist.
And to avoid any problems in using it, read the documentation here:

  • Cannot receive photos via text messaging, says too big to receive

I can receive photos via blue tooth but when anybody sends photos via text it does not arrive or I am told that the image is too big.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting the issue here and providing more information. I did some research on the carrier and this is what I found about sending a receiving messages.
Please call your service provider to find out if there are any limitations on attachment sized for your phone plan.
I tried looking up to verify how to manually set up email for the email app for your phone, but was not sure what model you had: please check here for troubleshooting info [http://www.vodafone.com.au/help/devices/ota-settings] if the email is already set up, please ignore.
This lists the networks that work best for sending and receiving pxt in mms overseas and email

    PXT®/MMS settings [http://support.vodafone.com.au/articles/FAQ/PXT-MMS-settings]
If this continues after any optimizing changes the service provider recommends:
*Are there download settings set in the email menu
*What is the size of the attachment when this happens?
*Is it a specific file type this consistently happens?
*what kind of email account does this happen with, and is it consistent for other emails as well? If so it may be the apn settings.
If you are unable to access the images from the account with Vodafone, it may be the following bugs that is affecting this.

  • I need to downsize phots to publish on a website but they are too big . In help it says when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT. ?

I can't figure out how to downsize my photos for a website that won't take anything above 3MB my Photos are 4MB. Even when I send them in an email, they are too big to send more than 3 at a time and I don't know how to fix it! Help says that when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT?????

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum. Are you asking about iPhoto on your Mac?
In iPhoto on your Mac select Export and you will have the option to select a size for your photo.
In iPhoto for iOS this capability is not there. I use PhotoForege2 on my iPad to resize my photos to meet the requirements you describe.

  • Display is too big, can't see the menu bar.

I have a 32" tv that i connected it to my mac pro. I see te display, but it is too big. I can't see the menu bar. I've tried changing the resolution, holding control and scrolling, and changing the display size on the tv settings. Any suggestions?

If there are no size settings on the TV that work (some TVs don't have the correct settings) see if there are Overscan or Underscan settings in the Mac's Displays system preference.

  • Photos too big for Flash, what can I do?

    Hi,
I have tried all the different Formats of Photo and bringing them into Flash, but they are still too big, causing Flash to crash and meaning I am unable to upload my website to my server. I think i remember being told you could use a preloader. But still being quite new at Flash don't know how to being.
Or is there another way anyone can think of?
    Please Help, client waiting!
    Cheers
    Tom

    Hi,
I think what you need to do is bring your image into Photoshop. Select > Image Size > Choose 72 PPI which is a good size for the internet. Now go to File> Save For Web. In there it will give you options on how to optimize your image for the web. Just save it as a Jpeg if you want and then import into Flash library.
    Hope this helps!

I could always just choose a photo to use as a desktop and it would work fine. Now they all seem to display at full resolution meaning that I only get a small segment of the picture. I have tried cropping to the display dimensions but it is still too big. What can I do? This is on my Macbook 2.16.
