Background music and voice.

Is it possible to have both background music and voice narration in the same slide? I would like the music to start and then gradually fade when the voice begns talking. I am using Captivate 4 but will soon be going to Captivate 6.

This can be achieved in multiple ways ..
Option-1:
Captivate provides you Background audio. Import an audio file for your background music as a background audio. Follow the menu "Audio > Background audio"
Then import your narration on your slide and time it appropriately.
Option-2:
Import your background music on your slide and let ut fade as per your need.
Add a transparent text caption object and import audio to the caption. Time the object such that it plays once the slide background audio fades out.
Hope this is useful.
Captivate 6 has better control over background audio as compared to Captivate 4. You can give it a try.

If your iPod, is a 30 GB model, then it is a 5th generation iPod. This information can be found here: [Identifying iPod Models|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353]
There are a few ways you could go about solving this issue. The first thing is to enable Sound Check on your iPod, which can be found under *Main Menu -> Settings -> Sound Check*. Next, be sure the option is also enabled in iTunes. The setting is in iTunes preferences Playback pane. Place a check next to the box for *Sound Check*.
Another option is to adjust the overall volume of the song in iTunes, and then sync the updated changes to your iPod. To do this, locate the song(s) in iTunes, right->click and choose *Get Info* from the menu. From there, head over to the Options tab. Move the slider up and down depending on whether you want to bring the overall volume up or down and then hit Ok when you are finished. Lastly, sync your iPod to update the changes made to the altered songs. See if that helps.
There are also excellent 3rd party applications that can adjust the songs overall volume. One can be found [HERE|http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net>.

Why does my MacBook Pro make background music and video quieter when I am on FaceTime? When my girlfriend and I are trying to watch a movie on Netflix together while on FaceTime my MacBook Pro always decreases the volume of any background sound on my computer so I can barely hear it. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

Have the same issue too. Apple can you please change this annoying feature. You are making long distance relationships more difficult.
I like how Facetime was with the old iOS, where nothing was dimmed. OR at least maybe if you could give users the option to turn on or off dimming of facetime.

Most movies have Dolby surround sound. Seems like you don't have all sound channels coming out of your speakers.
Is the AppleTV connected to a receiver or to a TV?
If you have a receiver that supports dolby surround you should configure the sound settings of the Apple TV and receiver accordingly.
If it's connected to a TV the audio setting "Dolby Digital" in the Apple TV should be set to off.

I am having the same problem with my iTunes. Support had me uninstall everything and reinstall iTunes again thinking it was corrupt. I did that and it worked for a couple of days. Now they say that cannot help since it is iTunes and not my iPhone and sent me here. Sometimes I can get it to work sporadically if I reboot my laptop a couple of times, but I have rebooted a few times already and nothing plays...no song previews, nothing from my library. iPods and iPhone play fine, it is isolated only to iTunes and is super frustrating. I get the same task bar up top as if it were going to play, but the play timer doesn't start. Help please!!!

CK-20W Music and Voice does not pass through Car A...

Hi...
I just bought a CK-20W from a store and install in the Car Audio shop, guess what I bought a new head unit in order to use the multimedia function through out the mobile phone Music Player.
All installation is 100% follow by the instruction.
The problem is the Music or Voice just went through the Mono Speaker, which provide with the set.
There's Beep sound in background some like 1-2 times every 5 minute through the Car Audio System.
However I went to two Car Audio Shop and both of them confirmed the installation is 100%. We also try to use MP3 direct into AuxIn of the head unit and it works fine.
So I confirmed, there's nothing wrong with the installation, or the Car Audio System.
Can somebody tell me what I did wrong or some settings might need to complete.

a) My Phone is Nokia N80 (V5.0719.0.2) 24-05-2007 RM-92
b) My car head unit is Pioneer DEH-P7950UB
c) My installation option is B1
d) My CK-20W has stereo mode, tells from low beep and indicator light flashes in the rhythm of the beeps.
When I connect MP3 direct with 3.5mm with the same cable to AuxIn of the head unit the music is fine.
When phone paired to the CK-20W and then call my phone the head unit did not mute the MP3 audio because I disconnected the car radio mute.
The beeps or buzz sound comes from all speakers in the car like in stereo mode. I try to disconnected the AuxIn cable from CK-20W no beeps or buzz sound at all, so it must be from the CK-20W.
*** What I can do for now to play MP3 out of my phone is to be able to use only the supplies speaker, which the quality of the sound is not quite good. ***
I really thank you for your kind question, I hope I'd answer all the question correctly.
Please let me know what I should do with this because in Thailand CK-20W is quite new, and I asked NOKIA Thailand they said it must be less than 50 people who's using this.

Manually manage music and voice memo's

Good morning all, so I can't figure this out, If I have my iTunes set to manually manage music and videos how do I synch my voice memo's? Last night when I was doing that it seemed to me I had to change it to synch selected songs and once I checked Voice Memo's it emptied my iPhone of all the music. Is that right, or am I missing something? Thanks for your help!

thanks for the reply but I was hoping to find out where they go on the Mac, from the Finder point of view... where are the actual files after syncing any iPhone with voice memo recordings on it ?
The answer is, at least for me, they go to the root level of your iTunes Music folder. There they will be given a date such as:
20091012 185152.m4a
These recordings seem to play fine on my:
Quicktime Player 7
Quicktime Player Snow Leopard version

Difference - Background music AND an audio music track added to a clip ?

Working on a iMovie 08 project, just curious, what's the difference between:
A. A soundtrack dragged from Media Browser/iTunes and dropped to the background canvas (project viewer) of a movie (resulting in a green/purple background) AND
B. The same soundtrack added to the movie clips (as an audio track)?
I see that in both cases I can have the music start at a particular point of video. I can "pin" the audio to a particular place in the video (in the case of background music track) or simply move the horizontal audio track icon to any point of a movie clip (in the case of music being added as an audio track). So just curious if there are other considerations to this?
Is there an advantage of one over the other?
When exporting to iDVD are there any performance considerations/differences between the two?

How do I choose which audio track to put music and voice on?

When I add music to the timeline the right and left stereo music goes to tracks far part, as well as voice over. I am also having problems getting a music file on the same track as the one before it. How can I keep them close together?
I have several blank audio tracks open on the time line. How can I close some of them?

Only if there's absolutely nothing else in the centre panned position of your original stereo file. If it's not a stereo file, you can't do it at all.
What are the chances? Not good, I'd say. Often this is where the bass gets panned to, and to get rid of this as well is going to require extra work. Also, if there was any stereo ambience or reverb added to the singer, that will be lost too. The clean methodology for this is to remove the vocal as much as you can first, using the center channel extractor, and then subtract this file from the original one. What will be left will be the vocal on the original file. You have to get this part sample-accurate for it to work, but actually that's the most reliable part of the process; it will be getting rid of the vocal cleanly and leaving just the music that's going to be the difficult bit. IIRC (I don't have AA3 installed at present) there's a setting on the extractor that will do this, but I've always found that doing it as a separate process works out better, for some reason.
But try the whole thing. You never know, depending on the file you have, it might work out fine...

I think there have been mentions here of a future version - containing what new features I don't know. I guess now Audition 3.0 is released they can turn their attention back to Soundbooth.

My son borrowed my ipod photo and created his own music folder in my itunes. When I went to use my ipod the only thing on it was his music. Can I get my data back???

Depends. If your music was only on your iPod, and not your computer (you were using the +manage music Manually+ setting), then NO. If all of the music that was on your iPod is on your computer, then YES.
If the latter, first, make sure your music is showing up in iTunes. Then, use the Restore button on the iPod's pane in iTunes. This will erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software. You can then set it up to sync with your music library.
If your son's music is in your iTunes library, it will also get placed back on the iPod, if you are syncing everything.

The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
