Background Painting of "Out of focus" tabbed Panel (JTabbedPane) ?

Hi
I would like to add a on going Bar Graph to a JTabbedPane, this works fine if the specific Tab is in Focus, but when the tab is switched, Painting stops!
How can i ensure the painting continues in the background!
Here is an example which demo's the problem! Also, watch the standard out...
Any idea's how to solve this ?

How can i ensure the painting continues in the background! Well, I don't think you force painting since Swing appears to be smart enough to not paint a component that isn't visible.
However, you should be able to do your painting on an offscreen image. So your offscreen image will be continually update. Then your paintComponent(...) method simply paints this offscreen image.
This posting should get your started using this approach:

  • FF15 is preventing pages in out of focus tabs from autorefreshing. All Javascript/Java and plugins are prevented from refreshing data when tab is not displayed

    FF15 is preventing pages that contain auto refreshing html commands, Javascripts, Java applettes, and other plugins, from auto reloading or refreshing information on web pages, when the tabs than contain them go out-of-focus.
    While tab has focus (page is fully displayed) all auto refreshing/reload embedded commands/programs work correctly.
    I work with web sites, were information needs to be auto updated constantly, whether the tab is hidden or not, such as stock prices, web server monitoring, biding sites, customer support chat, etc.
    This behavior can cause severe loads in web servers with web pages that contain many data items, when all server side programs that pertain to the data being displayed have to run from scratch at the same time, when the tab is brought back in focus, since the browser issues a full reload.
    This behavior also interferes with "reloading" FireFox addons
    One should be able to stop, and/or disable this behavior, and pretty sure this problem is affecting many users, and or web sites that rely on these commands to work according to html protocols.
    Is not the function of a web browser to interfere in any way with html embedded commands or programs, by stoping functionality, or preventing connection to the internet

    No need to remove Adblock Plus, disabling it should help you discover whether ABP is causing that problem or not.
    I saw a mention of that problem at MozillaZine fora a few days ago, but don't recall the details. But IIRC it has to do with toggling a setting to off.
    Adblock Plus has its own support forum.They should be able to help you get ABP adjusted to avoid that issue. <br />

    When I test the page in different browsers, the menu drops in varying amounts in each of the browsers. This is because each browser interprets the elements in different manners.
    I usually start any layout with a reset.css to bring the interpretations back to a common level.
    Have a look here http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/3/cssreset/ or Google reset.css for more info.
    I hope this helps.

  • My Javascript function can't work inside tabbed panel

    I have a web application which has a tabbed panel inside.
    And inside the tabbed panel, I place a page which contain Javascript..
    When I out the action directly on the behavior, like
    onClick="window.alert('Hi')"
    it worked well..
    But when I put the script to a function and I call the function, it doesn't work..
    <script>
    function test() {
    window.alert('Hi');
    </script>
    onClick="javascript: test()"
    I've tried to put the page out of the tabbed panel, and it worked, after I put it inside again, it didn't work..
    Do you know why & how to fix it?
    Thanks for helping :D

    Hi and welcome to the discussions.   This happens once in a while for no apparent reason.  When it happens to me, a simple log out/log in usually gets things going again.  I haven't researched to see what process died when this happens.
    If that doesn't, then a restart, but first check Spotlight in System Preferences and make sure that the Privacy list is empty.

  • How to set a single tab in JTabbedPane invisible

    Hello,
    I want to set only a single tab invisible out of 9 tabs in JTabbedPane. I can disable the tab but not able to set invisible.
    Thanking you in advance.

    you may use JTabbedPane.removeTabAt(int) method as long as you don't want the tab to appear & when needed use JTabbedPane.insertTabAt(String, Icon, Component, String, int) method.
    as far as i know this is only way to achieve our want. this should help you.

    can the Spry Tabbed Panels be set to use the Opacity fade out / in similar to the Spry Image SlideShow effects?

    First add an ID to the tab as follows or similar
    <h2 id="second">Tab 2</h2>
    Then add a style rule to add a background image as follows or similar
    .TabbedPanelsTab#second {

  • How to pause stage/swf with audio when a new tab is opened/ out of focus in browser

    I have created a container in Flash Professional CS5 for my project’s CBT.  I’ve been able to script many of the features we require using AS3, but there are a couple of things I’m still trying to work out.
    I would like the swf presently playing in one tab to pause and go silent when another swf is opened in a new tab (the sound is inside this externally loaded swf which is loaded inside a movie clip from buttons nested a movie clip down).  I’ve tried :
    var originalFrameRate:uint = stage.frameRate;
    var standbyFrameRate:uint = 0;
    addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, onActivate);
    addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, onDeactivate);
    function onActivate(e:Event):void
           stage.frameRate = originalFrameRate;
           trace("in focus");
    function onDeactivate(e:Event):void
           stage.frameRate = standbyFrameRate;
           SoundMixer.stopAll();
           trace("out of focus");
    And
          I’ve looked into the HTML tag “has Priority”
    and coded buttons to:
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage(event:MouseEvent):void
           navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.ansaldo-sts.com/AnsaldoSTS/EN/index.sdo"), "_blank");
           MovieClip(this.stage).stop();
    With variations of:
    MovieClip(this.parent.parent)stop();
    MovieClip(this.parent.parent.parent.parent)stop(); because the button is 3 movie clips deep.
    MovieClip(this.root)stop();      MovieClip(root)stop();MovieClip(this.currentTarget.root)stop();
    Could someone please provide me with the code?
    This function is present when I publish the CBT with Captivate, so obviously there must be code available. You can set the Captivate button to open url in new window and pause movie.
    Is there something I can add to the html file that is similar to the “has Priority” for mobile devices or is there javascript that can be added to the flash itself?

    You would send a command to Flash from JavaScript when window.onblur event occurs.

  • Vertical tabbed panel with background image

    Hi all,
    I have a working vertical tabbed panel.  For the text that's shown, there's a background image assigned to the associated DIV.
    However...
    The background image that's shown is clipped to the bottom of the text.
    In other words, if I have 3 lines of text, the bottom of the background image only goes as far down as the bottom line of text.  In order to show the entire image, I have to put in a lot of </ br> tags for "empty" text, not a very good approach.
    More of the backgound will show if I increase the text text size via the browser.
    To try to describe this more accurately,
    Let's say I have a background image that's 600 px in height, but the lines of text only measure to 400px.  That means that the bottom 200 px of the image doesn't show, unless I add more lines of text.
    Hoping someone has an answer!
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Gramps,
    Again, thanks for your time.  While we're now full time commercial photographers (http://www.jerryandlois.com), I was a software engineer for some 20+ years in an earlier life, all on the application side of things.  Not really any appreciable time with website stuff.
    There are a few more tech/how-to questions I have that are specific to CSS, in terms of polishing up the small site I'm working on.  However these are not SPRY related, unless SPRY can solve this for me.
    In particular, suppose I have a large block with a background image and a body of text.  I want to ensure the text wraps around the image, rather than being a complete overlay where the text can collide with the main body of the photo.
    Example:
    http://jerryandloisstudios.com/about.html
    The issue is that the text is resizable, by design of course.  Is there any way to manage these two elements (text and image) so they get along the right way?  We want the text to overlay some of the image, but only on the periphery, if that makes sense.  So far, the only solution I've seen is to keep the text formatted roughly in a column so that if its size increases all will still be OK.  But...  artistically that just doesn't look right.
    If you're up for it, I'd certainly welcome a private email thread, unless others can also benefit from the rather newbie questions I'm raising:  [email protected]
    Again, thank you for your help!!!

  • Tabbed Panel Focus

    I am using tabbed panels to neatly display web part on a
    portal. The only problem I have encountered is tab focus being lost
    when I page through the content. Example: Tab 3 displays, in
    batches of 10, frequently used documents. When navigating to the
    next batch the page is returned with the default tab displayed. Is
    there a way to maintain focus for this example?

    You could pass call a function that would set the tab default
    to what ever so say they click on the next button have an onclick
    to call say the keepTab function or what ever
    so like
    <a href="#" onclick="keeptab(2);">Next</a>
    function keeptab(ID)
    Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("tp1", { defaultTab: ID });
    haven't tested it but it should work.

  • Spry - Changing focus on each tabbed panel

    Hello,
    I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this.
    I have been asked to modify this page, http://webpac.lvlspa.org/screens/moco_mainmenu.html , and I was wondering how I could have the focus be on the input box when a patron clicks on each tabbed panel?
      Thanks for your time,
       Matt

    Automatically setting the focus in a form field is normally a trivial operation. However, it's not so simple with tabbed panels because the tabs and their content are all on the same web page.
    I decided to give this a try, and think that I have come up with a solution. The code is specific to your setup, which uses "targetEncore" and "searcharg" as the name of the input fields you want to have focus when a tab is clicked. Add the following script block at the bottom of the page, just before the closing </body> tag:
    <script>
    if (document.getElementsByClassName) {
        function findField(node) {
            var node = node || document.getElementsByClassName('TabbedPanelsContentVisible')[0];
            if (node.hasChildNodes()) {
                var child = node.firstChild;
                while (child) {
                    if (child.nodeType === 1 && child.nodeName == 'INPUT') {
                        if (child.name == 'targetEncore' || child.name == "searcharg") {
                            child.focus();
                            break;
                    } else {
                        findField(child);
                    child = child.nextSibling;
        findField();
        var tabs = document.getElementsByClassName('TabbedPanelsTab');
        for (var i = 0; i < tabs.length; i++) {
           tabs[i].addEventListener('click', (function (num) {
                return function() {
                    findField();
            })(i), false);
    </script>
    This script works in all modern browsers, included Internet Explorer 9. However, it does not work in IE 8 or earlier. Getting it to do so would involve a lot more scripting, so is probably not worthwhile.
    Message was edited by: David_Powers to wrap script in conditional statement that tests support for document.getElementsByClassName.

  • Warping in an out of focus background post grade

    Hi there
    I have finished grading in Color and sent back to Final Cut Pro. There was noise and 'warping' (areas changing) in an out of focus background.
    I have applied noise reduction plugins that have seemed to work, but the warping is still very much there.
    I have also tried placing another copy of the video above the original in the soft light composite mode and dropping the opacity, yet to no avail.
    Has anyone any other suggestions?
    Would be incredibly grateful as deadline is fast approaching...
    Thank you.

    Sorry it was quite random.
    The areas are the shadows, and lighter areas of greenery in a park. Because of this background being out of focus, I think Color is picking up a limited range of information.
    The 'warping' I previously described is actually these areas getting smaller and larger when there is movement (slow tracking) in the camera.
    It is very complicated to describe, I just thought someone might have found this before when grading a slow moving shot with an out of focus background.
    Thanks

  • Spry tabbed panels as menu system

    Hi,
    This is actually for Dreamweaver CS6.    What I'm trying to do is use spry tabbed panels as horizontal my menu system.    I want to have basically the functionality of the adobe.com menu system where the drop downs are tabbed and the content box size varies depending on the tab and the content box moves it's position relative to the tab that's selected.     I did manage to get the mouseover working so the tab's change according to which tab the mouse passes over.
    My current problems are these:
    I managed to change the content panel box size so it's not the same width as the full panel tab group however I cannot get it to move relative to which tab is selected, it just stays fixed in one location.
    The content tabs are pushing the body of my page down instead of showing up over top of it which is obvioulsy not very condusive for a menu system.
    I would like the default to show none of the panels until someone mouseover's one of the tab's and for the panels to dissapear when the mouse is not in the menu system.
    For something similar to the adobe.com menu system am i using the right feature (it looks like tabbed panels to me) or should I be using a different spry feature, I would like to have text and an image in the content box under each tab just for overall effect.
    I'm quite inexperienced with CSS and Javascripting and have basically gotten this far with trial and error modifying the CSS settings but I'm unable to modify the javascript on my own.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Spry tabbed panels, opening a tabbed panel,  problem with IE

    i've have made a site, with tabbed panels,
    all the pages are made of a template;
    everythings works fine; in Firefox and Opera,
    but only in IE when i open a tabbed panel from a menubar, the contents  is opened behind my header location;
    i've used spry 1.6.1 and spryUtils to open the tabbed panel.
    because there no other posibilty to open  a tabbed panel from my other page.
    i've tested the site on CSS and all, and i've don't get any errors.
    this site is only on our intranet, and DVD;
    so is not a online site
    i' dont have anything modified in the java script.
    just changed some minor adjustments to the CSS of the tabbed panels
    The page is containing a fixed footer and header, FOR all browsers therefore is the CSS IE hacks also.
    and all other functions work normal.
    i'm only a beginner at this

  • Using Srpy tabbed panels with slidding panels

    I am very new to spry and so I am still just figuring it all
    out. How I found it was I wanted a tabbed panel like the one on the
    IBM website. Anyway, I am trying to
    use the tabbed panels with the sliding panels and it just does not
    seem to be working. I found
    this
    tutorial and followed the codes but it still only works as just the
    tabbed panels - nothing has changed at all. Can someone tell me
    what I might be doing wrong? I am attaching both my html and css
    code for you to inspect.
