Backing up Bridge CS4 collections, keywords

hello, does anyone know where these settings are to backup collections & keywords, I know i have to backup the actual files, but dont see them in home:librabry: app support: adobe . there are several files in there and not sure which one i need
thanks

They should be in User library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Bridge CS4
(or CS5). Inhere the file "Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml" and the folder or
folder content for "Collections".

  • Back-ups Bridge CS6 - Collections, keywords etc.

    Hi guys
In order to completely backup the Bridge database with the entire structure and the keywords linked to each picture (so that Picture XYZ has all of the same settings/keywords/metadata) after for instance completely reinstalling the MacBook (clean install), is it sufficient to just drag and drop the /library/Application_Support/Adobe/Bridge CS6/Collections and Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml?
What are the best ways to safely take care of all of the information in Bridge to avoid wasting time reinstalling things after buying a new mac or clean installing it, having had a crash or... ?
    Thanks!

What are the best ways to safely take care of all of the information in Bridge to avoid wasting time reinstalling things after buying a new mac or clean installing it, having had a crash or... ?
Like Curt already stated, exporting the existing keyword list and import again in new set up is the safest way to go and you also have a back up of your existing keyword list.
Keywords and IPTC / XMP data are usually written to the file itself, Raw files use a separate XMP file with the info. I don't use the original raw files anymore but convert them to DNG. This has the great advantage to have written both settings and xmp data like IPTC to the file itself. Otherwise a separate xmp side car file with the same name as the original will be saved in the folder where the originals are stored.
For the rest it is depending on what you are planning. If it is a new Mac with same CS version you can safely copy collections but personally I prefer to have a clean start after upgrading to new Mac or new system version. It seems a bit more work in the first run (and in fact it is a bit more work) but this means everything fresh and not with a lot of older and hidden preferences and settings files that can clutter your new workflow with old flaws and faults, meaning it is a little time investment to have a lot of pleasure in the future :-0
If you want to save your collections try thinking about keywords for them but to be honest, collections have proofed in the past to being not always very stable so if you depend on this for archive purposes you better start thinking about a good key wording and folder structure for this in combination with a proper naming convention (like yyyymmdd-etc. ) so you have multiple options to restore a collection if things go wrong.
Especially upgrading to new CS needs to recache the files again because the cache format has changed every time with a new version. This sounds terrible but in fact it is not all that much work to recache the lot when you use the main folder and the option to show items from subfolders and let it run overnight.
But in all cases it is very wise to have a back up of all pref and other settings from your old system. Personally I always do make a copy of the old user library and store it away in case I have forgotten something. But the Adobe folder in the user library / application support indeed has the most of the settings in it.

  • Suggestions to improve Bridge CS4 Collections feature

The new "Collections" feature in Bridge CS4 is Great! It's pretty close to what I've been missing in CS3. In working with the new feature I've discovered several areas where it could be made even more useful.
    1. It appears folders get added to Smart Collections but cannot be dragged to regular Collections. I'd like to be able to drag a folder from the Content or Folders panes into a Collection. When I try, I see a "can not do this" icon symbol.
    2. I'd like to be able to drag Stacks into Collections. As it is now, I can expand the stack and drag the individual photos into a Collection. But then I have to re-stack the images in the Collection. Since the photos were already stacked in their original (real) folder, this seems redundant.
    3. I'd like to be able to create Collections of Collections. Since it seems the Collections pane can only contain a single level of entries, I envision this pane becoming unwieldy over time.
    4. When working with Collections, and viewing the contents of a specific collection, the Folders pane "resets" to the top level. So I then need to re-navigate to where I was working in the filesystem to add items to Collections. While I understand the rationale for this, it's a hassle. It'd be nice to be able to maintain my position in the Folders view, grab some files, view the contents of a Collection, and be able to flip back to the Folders pane to continue exploring the filesystem where I left off, without having to remember where I was and re-navigate to that location.
    Thanks for reading :)

    I second your #3.
I use non-smart Collections as a way to organise customer initial enquiries and subsequent choice of image to take from the selection I offer. In this respect, CS4 is a real imprvement over CS3. But keeping lots of current collections for many customers in a flat file system isn't a viable long-term solution.
Folders within Collections would therefore be a real boon for me, too.
The 4th top row icon from the left generates a drop-down list of recent folders. Could this be an answer to your #4?

  • Collections and Smart Collections migrate from Bridge CS4 to CS5

Please, any ideas of how to migrate my collections from Bridge CS4 to CS5.
I have many collections and I have no clue of where they are stored or if they are. There must be some way to re-use them, otherwise is a feature that will bring problems on each upgrade.
    Thanks
    Marc

    @jerrymic, look in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS4/Collections .  Copy all those files to "Bridge CS5/Collections".
I just did that and restarted Bridge and all my CS4 collections appeared.
    Cheers!

  • From Bridge CS4 to CS5...

...can we save our collections from Bridge CS4 to Bridge CS5? Doesn't look like it. And why won't Bridge CS5 let me open BridgeCS4, which i still have on my laptop?

...can we save our collections from Bridge CS4 to Bridge CS5? Doesn't look
    like it.
You can copy the CS4 collections to the CS5 folder, don't know for sure but
I think it only works when you are on the same system, collections are more
a kind of aliases from the original files and those aliases would not find
the originals on an other system.
The collections are in the user library:
    User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS4/Collections. In here are
the collection names with the extension '.filelist'.
You can copy those to the Bridge CS5 folder in the same location and that
    should work.
And why won't Bridge CS5 let me open BridgeCS4, which i still have on
    my laptop?
Don't know what you mean by open Bridge CS4 on your laptop whit Bridge CS5.
While you can have multiple CS version for PS open at the same time you can
have only one Bridge version active. By default the Bridge CS5 files open in
PS CS5, using right mouse click menu you can choose from open with: and
inhere is a list of all applications that are capable to open that file.

  • Can I make a collection of images from a data DVD in Bridge CS4?

Hello, anyone know if it's possible in Bridge CS4 to catalog a DVD as a collection? I can't figure out if it can be done. I've got several thousand images backed up to DVD and CD which in the past I've cataloged using other software but I'd like to do it in Bridge. I know it can be done in Lightroom quite easily.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Geoff.

target needs to be owned by runtime()till R1 or control center(r2). in your case you dont need to create as source, you can register as another one target and a new module (target), that will resolve your case

  • How do I get Bridge CS6 to recognize collections created in Bridge CS4?

I just downloaded Photoshop CS6 beta. When I opened Bridge CS6, my collections (created in Bridge CS4) were not visible. Is there a way to import the collections into CS6?

Hello, on collections can be found on:
    MAC: user/library/application/support/Adobe/Bridge (CS4 - CS5)/collections
    WIN: it should be [osdisk]:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4 -5)\collections
You could try to import them to the same folder for CS6.

  • Bridge CS4 Search Not Displaying NEF Files + Keyword Problems

Hello, I am hoping someone can be of service to peculiar problem that apparently nobody else has had.
I am running Adobe Bridge CS4 (came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8) on a 2009 24 inch iMac with 4GB RAM and a 2.6mHz processor running Snow Leopard v10.6.2.
I use Adobe Bridge CS4 to add Keywords to all my photos and edit 14 bit Nikon NEF RAW files. I write the keywords to an .XMP sidecar
    file.
Two days I ago I changed something in Preferences->Metadata and the next time I started Bridge CS4 and used the loupe tool on a NEF
file, it took longer than usual for the preview to come up and when it did, it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%. Once the loupe preview showed up, the NEF file had some sort of processing applied to it (it became more contrasted.) This was all within Bridge ant NOT Adobe Camera Raw. I quit the program and the next time I started Bridge, it crashed upon using the loupe tool. I looked up help on Adobe's website and it appeared I had corrupted preferences. Per Adobe's instructions I option clicked at Bridge startup to delete the preferences and purge the cache.
Everything appeared to be normal until today when I searched for a keyword and got 36 random results when I know I have hundreds of
photos tagged with that particular keyword. I started typing in other keywords and getting the same sort of results- very limited numbers of photos I have hundreds of. I always include all subfolders in all searches and used every search method available through Bridge to no avail. The searches always came up with a fraction of the photos I actually have tagged.
I then verified and repaired all disk permissions from the operating system installation CD and Bridge started returning results as
usual. However, when I clicked on an individual file in the Content pane, some of my Keywords started to appear in italics below the rest of my Keyword tree. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why some images will return the Keywords normally and others in italics. Also, sometime the italicized keyword tree will include keywords I edited due to typos and thus no longer existing my normal Keyword tree. I gave the "Make Persistent" command a try. It converts the italics to regular case, but it also doubles the tag so I now have two of that tag (one in the normal keyword tree, and the now converted italics keyword tree.)
Now I'm noticing that all my search results are not including NEF files; just JPEG and the occasional DNG file that I made through Adobe Camera RAW. I'm not sure if this has been the case throughout my problem or if I just noticed it late.
Regarding not displaying NEF files in searches, it appears that it will default to displaying JPEG if it has the option because as of lately I have only been shooting RAW and some of those files are showing up in the still-wonky searches (still displaying random or no photos of keywords.) However, if I manually navigate to a file, I can open and edit NEF files with no problem, they just don't display in any search modes.
Here's two short videos of what happens when I navigate a folder with NEF files by manually searching:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDjUDZzULKQ
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y9HkDK7DCs
When I click on a NEF file, the one ahead of it in Content view processes into a more contrasty image and the loupe tool previews jump between 100% and 400% and then change to 100% when dragged or they just process themselves right then and there.

I am running Adobe Bridge CS4 (came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8) on a 2009 24 inch iMac with 4GB RAM and a 2.6mHz processor running Snow Leopard v10.6.2.
Snow Leopard and Bridge CS4 do have some issues. Some have no problems and others have much problems I'm afraid.
I use Adobe Bridge CS4 to add Keywords to all my photos and edit 14 bit Nikon NEF RAW files. I write the keywords to an .XMP sidecar file.
To my knowledge the keywords are written into the XMP Metadata that is saved in the IPTC section of file itself, the XMP data in the sidecar file contain the changes you made in ACR. In other words, the keywords you have added should still be there.
Also see this Knowledge Base article about Keywords:

Changes metadata in prefs only affects the visability of the fields in the metadata panel. put or deselect a checkmark in front of an option will let you see or not see the field in this panel, the actual data and fields ar still in the file.
it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%. Once the loupe preview showed up, the NEF file had some sort of processing applied to it (it became more contrasted.) This was all within Bridge ant NOT Adobe Camera Raw.
You can change the magnification for the loupe to 100 / 200 / 400 and 800 % using the scrollwheel or with loupe active the + and - keys. Bridge shows the settings that you made in ACR. If you have changed the default Camera Raw setting it will also change the thumbs for this file. A thumbs needs some time to be cached. First it shows with a black border around, when first cached it shows the embedded preview and in the second round it renders the ACR settings and High Quality preview (if you have not disabled this setting). Caching needs some time.

Maybe you need to let the indexing in find do its work again but it might also be a snow leopard issue. Try an other app (Digital Asset Management like Expresion Media or  Portfolio) to check about the keywording and find. You can use a trial version for several days. You have several options to use find keywords. In the panel itself, in the filterpanel uner the keyword tab, when clicking on a visible keyword it only shows the files with that keyword or in the menu Edit / find (shortcut cmd + F) explore the options in this menu and also choose include non indexed and let Bridge start to index your files again.

    Don't know about that.

As you can see the black border around some file that disappear after a while or when you select them they have not been cached. You used purge cache so most of your earlier cached results are gone and need to rebuild.

  • Bridge CS4 - I still can't move keywords for stock photos

    I'm on a Mac Pro, Leopard 10.5.8, 4G RAM.
I buy a lot of stock photos. The stock photo companies have thoughtfully assigned a bunch of keywords to the photos, sometimes in other languages that I don't really speak. Photos.com is notorious for applying keywords that have nothing to do with the photo, as evidenced my my searches for certain keywords. I wish they'd all stop doing this.
When these photos are opened, their keywords appear under "Other Keywords." I can make the keyword permanent under "Other Keywords," but I am unable to drag the keyword(s) into the main keyword list in an effort to GET RID OF this "Other Keywords" list.
I was hoping this was addressed in Bridge CS4, but of course it wasn't...UNLESS...
someone here knows how to do it?

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.

  • Can I use Bridge CS4 Keyword File in PE10?

I have a nice structured keyword list in PE8's Bridge CS4; I want to use it in PE10's organizer. When I import photos, PE10 brings the keywords for those pix, but not structured with sub keywords.
    For example:
    Places
    North Carolina
    Chapel Hill

Thought that might be the case - remake it is then. Thanks Bob.

  • Recovering Keywords Bridge CS4

My hard drive crashed and I've replaced it with a new one and upgraded the O/S to W7 from XP MCE at the same time.  I've recovered my PSD's, JPEG's & camera raw (canon CR2) images from the old drive and when I started Bridge in the new install but most of my "custom" keywords don't appear in the keywords list nor do they seem to appear in the EXIF.  Is there a way to recover this info from the old drive image?  (it was the boot drive).

The keywords file under XP should be here: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application  Data\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml. You'll have to copy it to this folder for win7: c:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4\
This file only contains the list of keywords from your Keywords panel, when you apply keywords to your files they are preserved in the metadata of the files themselves unless you're talking about raw files in which case they should be stored in a .XMP file

  • Problems with keywording in Bridge CS4

    Hi,
I am using Bridge CS4 to add keywords and captions (descriptions) to my photos. However, I have noticed that when I change the photos from location, from one folder to another, Bridge cannot recognize the keywords anymore (no problem with the captions). The same happens if I change the name of the folder where the photos are in. This problem happens if I do those folder changes outside Bridge AND also INSIDE Bridge.
However other programs (Picasa, Windows7 AND surprisingly Photoshop CS4) will recognize the keywords after those folder changes.
Can someone help me with this Bridge problem ? is this a well known bug ?
    Anthony

i have tried with 2 out of the 3 options. I cannot purge the cache, i will then loose all the information (labels, ratings,...) on my big database (160,000 images). (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331083.html)
    It did not work ;-(
Another very strange thing, i noticed that the 10% of pictures that were not affected by the problem are in 99% of the cases vertical (portrait pictures)...
Thanks for trying to help !

  • Bridge CS4 Keyword Search problems

    Hi everyone,
I upgraded to Photoshop CS4 on the big day and have been trying to do some searches in Bridge. My keywords seemed to have transferred over from CS3 to CS4 just fine. At least, my files are showing the keywords I had tagged in CS3. The problem is that when I do a Find, no items are coming up. This happens whether I do Edit > /Find or use the new Quick Search bar. Anyone know if this is a bug? Or if there is something else I need to do?
    Thanks! :)
    Jan

    Hi Bart,
    Thanks for responding. :)
Yes, I'm searching the current directory and I can see the keywords in the filter tab. I hadn't tried the spotlight-based search before. I just did that and that did work, even tho the Bridge-based search doesn't. So that's good. But searching on anything, even any elements of the filename, do not work for me using Find.
But at least the spotlight based search works, so that will do.
Thanks so much for your help, Bart. :)

  • Adobe Bridge CS4

I have MacBook Pro(10.6.2) and recently I upload Adobe Master Collection CS4. The problem is when I switch on my computer and if Adobe Bridge CS4 is in dock it's starting for an activated automatically (bounce off on the dock) when I quit Adobe Bridge CS4 from dock and restart my computer it is starting for activated automatically again and it creates a file into the trash as 'recovered file'. Could you please explain me what is the problem? and how can I solve it?
    Thank you.

Go to Bridge preferences/Advanced and uncheck Open at login. This is probably the cause.
If this doesn't work, check your account login items. If Bridge is there delete it.
If neither of these suggestions work report back.
