Backing up elements 12 catalogue

Why does every attempt to backup Photoshop Elements 12 fail saying 'Not Enough Disc Space'? The Picture File size shows on 'Propeties' as 65 GB. I have tried on completely empty 1 Terabyte Disc & get the same thing.
Robert

Hi Robert, have you created a folder on the external drive and does it have read & write privileges? It's best not to use Pictures on your internal drive if that is where your original files are stored.
Make a full backup
Insert Your CD/DVD or plug in your external hard drive
Create a new folder and name it PSE Full backup and give it a date
Click File >>Backup Catalog to CD, DVD or Hard Drive
Check Full Backup, then click Next
Select the drive letter for your CD ROM drive or External Hard Drive (click the browse button and navigate to a specific folder if you wish)
Then click Done
Wait for PSE to write the backup
Make an incremental backup
Once you have a full backup you can make incremental backups in future which will be much quicker.
Don’t use the same folder, make a new one for each full or incremental backup. Once you have a full back up you can make incremental back ups but you need to follow a set routine. It’s not very intuitive.
Start by creating a new folder or label a new CD/DVD Disk - it’s best to use dates e.g. “PSE incr backup 20140829”
Press Ctrl+B and check Incremental, then click Next
Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder “PSE inc backup 20140829”
Click Done.
If your full backup originally contained 500 images, the incremental backup will only contain changes since the last backup e.g. files B000501.jpg, B000502.jpg etc
If you ever have to do a complete restore you start with the TLY file from the latest incremental backup. The program automatically recognizes the number of incremental steps and you will be prompted to insert a disc or navigate to the appropriate drive.
Incremental backup’s are obviously much quicker to write to disk but I recommend that you periodically perform another full backup and delete any earlier backups.

How can I change my Editor default back to Elements 8?   When I downloaded a trial version of Elements 11, my default changed to version 11.  I use Adobe Lightroom, and when I switch over to Elements using "Edit In", it automatically open Elements 11 now.

In Lightroom Library prefs link to the PSE8 editor app, usually found on the Mac in support files. This example is for PSE10.

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer Catalogues

I have several different catalogues within the Elements Organizer 9. I recently restored one catalog from a DVD backup. Now, none of my catalogs are availabe for viewing. There doesn't seem to be an option anywhere within the catalog menu for locating the other ones. I didn't back those ones up, as there should be no reason for them to completely disappear. The two shown in the image below are the one that I restored and the other's blank. Is there something that I need to do to bring they other catalogues back? I'm assuming they must still exist, and it would be a pain to re-tag all of the thousands of images within each of the different catalogues. If you need more clarification, let me know.

Thank you so much, that helped me to locate the catologues. I can now open them from there, although if I open one, they all still don't show up in the catologue menu. That's alright, this is still a simple work-around to access all of these catalogues. Thank you for the quick response, I appreciate it.

  • I cannot back up Elements 10

I have Elements 10 on a Vista O/S.  I have tried to back up in order to transfer the catalouge to a new computer.
When I hit ' back up' in the menu nothing happens.  When I then click elsewhere on the screen, after leaving it for sometime in the hope that is is just being slow, I get the hourglass and a 'Elements 10 is not responding' dialoge box.  I have gone for the 'wait for the program to respond' option but after some time I still get no response.  I have tried several times and switched the computer off but still get the same reaction from the program.  As far as I can tell all other parts of the menu seem to be working

If the back up on the menu cannot be fixed is there another way f transerring the catalogue to my new computer?

  • Backing up Element 7 files and catalog

    Hi -
Currently I am running Photoshop Elements 7 (PE7) on a computer with Windows XP.  All of my photos are on an external hard drive.  I want to back up all of my photos, tags, etc. (all the work I have done) and be able to access everything from my new PC running Vista.  I have already installed PE7 on the new PC (I'll delete it from the old one once I have everything working) but have not accessed any photos using it yet.  On the old PC, I have run the PE7 Inital Backup and an Intermittent Backup.  I have read through many threads about this subject but most discuss older versions of PE.
I'm a little confused about what all I need to have Backed up and how best to Restore it.  I've read I need the photos backed up (obviously) but I also need the "catalog" file if I want to retain the tags, notes, captions, etc.  I've only seen the catalog file referenced as "My Catalog.PSA".   It looks like PE7 uses the file "C:\Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/Catalogs/My Catalog/catalog.pse7db".
    Is this correct?
Besides the pictures, is this the only other file I need to back up to retain all my work?
Does the File - Backup option back up this catalog file automatically as well as the photos?
Without knowing the above answers yet, here's what I think I need to do and makes the most sense to do - PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.
    1.  Run the "Backup Catalog to CD, DVD or Hard Drive" option as an Inital Backup so I have a backup of everything before I do anything else.
    2.  Since my photos are already on an external hard drive and the drive letter seems to be consistent when I move it between computers, I don't really want to (or need to) Restore them back onto that external drive and I don't want them on my new PC so I won't run the Restore option.
    3.  Copy the "catalog.pse7db" file to my Vista PC,   Question:  Where do I place it since the file structure is different than on my old XP computer?
Lastly, under "File" there is the option to:  "Write keyword Tag and Properties Info to Photo".  It seems too easy to just write this info to the photos and then only have to back up the photos.  I would think the photo file sizes could increase significantly and there must be additional information that the catalog contains (such as file locations??) so I would still need to backup and move the catalog to the new PC in order for PE7 to find and process all my photos correctly.   Am I right about this?  When does it make sense to use this option?
Thanks for your help!  This is my first foray into using Photoshop Elements (and a forum) and I don't want to lose all my work.

    To build on Paige's response:
If you have photo creations (e.g. slideshows) or files that you moved offline to CD/DVDs, you should move the entire catalog folder (the one containing catalog.pse7db).  That folder contains the project files for your creations and it also contains the previews of your offline photos.  You can find the location on your old computer by doing Help > System Info in the Organizer.   The folder also contains other files that aren't essential to move, since PSE will recreate them if necessary.
Regarding File > Write Keyword Tags, that command tries to write the tags, captions, notes, date/times, and star ratings into the metadata of your files.  The advantage of this is that metadata can be accessed by many other programs and services, e.g. when you upload to Flickr, it will pick up your tags.  It doesn't make an appreciable increase in the size of your photos.   However, the command is quite buggy and often doesn't get the data correctly written, even with JPEGs.

  • Exporting images from Lighroom back to Elements 6

I use Elements 6 as my organiser and use lightroom as an external editor. When I have processed images in lighroom I have been unable to re export the image to Elements 6 as part of a stack. The export box appears to indicate this is possible but each time I try it simply goes into My Pictures and I am offered the facility to import through the watch files facility. Is it possible to return the adjusted image direct into Elements 6 as part of a stack? Many thanks

You should not need to convert to QuickTime.
I do not use the Share/Export to iDVD function within iMovie - it forces iMovie to render (not good)
    I do -
    • close iMovie
    • open iDVD
    • either find the movie project icon (with a Star on it) and just drag and drop it into
iDVD project/menu window. OR Rather from within iDVD IMPORT the iMovie project
    (still same with a Star)
This put's it in place - drag and drop can land it in a button area - will not work.
NOW - iDVD will render it and so much better.

But say i have an imovie project with content up to 1 hour 57 minutes total> dont I have to go to idvd if i am going to change aspect ration to 4:3 and choose rendering quality?
When you just drop it into the idvd menu are you asked which template to use?,
and how does it actually render it better?
Many of my movies are a mix of HD and SD due to timeline type of movies spanning years, so up to 2 hours of imovie content, and i do 4:3 ratio because of people that watch dont have 16:9 T.V's, and then i select say best quality or performance so that i know it can fit on one SD disc?
The way you describe are you asked the same questions inside iDVD?
and if so or not, how does the video actually get rendered " better" in iDVD?
OH ALSO WHAT ARE SOME OF THE REASONS to export imovie project back to camcorder?
i have never tried this, and would like to know some of the reasons? thanks again again
thanks so much, very interested in upping my movie quality

  • Roll back issues elements 9

    Hello,
I have used elements 9 many times, but when I tried to use it today both photoshop elements and all my adobe ver 7 and 9 came up with asking me to accept the license agreement. I did and it would not open any program in adobe except CS2, Acrobat 8 and Adobe reader.
I tried to install ver 9 and it would not or at least it still shows up in windows uninstall, but when you try to uninstall it say the program does not exist.
I tried to install ver 9 and it always rolled back the install. I do have the log file, but I do not understand what it is telling me.
    Help would be appreciated.

Yes I tried the ASA and had looked at the second link before and I just don't see where it would lead me. At the end where the summary is it shows no errors, but I don't know if that means no roll back errors or what?
The second link to the Adobe document leads you to looking through the entire installation log for "Return code: 3" listings and how to search the Adobe Knowlege base for clues about that specific error.  That's a good question about the error summary -- the body of the log would have more specific details about what is happening in the entire process.
    [email protected] wrote:
Do you or another person in the forum have knowledge of what the log is saying.
I haven't used the installation log to troubleshoot problems, so all I can say is what the Adobe document says:  the log will show failed installation components so one can do further research on the cause of that component failing.

I still have PSE 9 and PRE 9 and PRE 7 Templates showing in Control Panel...Programs window, but when you try to remove them it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed".
That's the part that bothers me the most, because it suggests a larger system problem.  If you've already used the MS Fixit utility:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
and still have those invalid entries, I'm afraid that the system is corrupted and that is what's causing your PSE installation problem.
My approach would be to first get the system problem sorted out, instead of possibly wasting a lot of time in the details of the PSE installation log.

  • Rolling Back Installation:  Elements 10

Does anyone have any fresh ideas how to fix this issue?  I've tried every trick in these forums and none of those solutions work.  Specifically, I'm trying to install Photoshop Elements 10.  I think the problem started when I installed Acrobat and then had Revo uninstall it.  It took a lot of my other Adobe products with it.  Elements 10 will not install anylonger.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi brianhood,
As you said that Photoshop Elements rolls back after 90% then could you please try these steps first and afterwards try installing Photoshop.
Please rename the OOBE Folder from this location
    Windows:-
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
After renaming the OOBE Folder try installing Photoshop Elements first and once finished then download and install the latest version of AAM mentioned in the other forum.
Let us know if this helps.

  • Upgrade Elements 6 Catalogue to Lightroom 2

I have been using Elements 6 to manage my cataloge. If I upgrade to lightroom 2 will this delete the cataloge from Elements 6 or can I carry on using both? Will the upgrade import the existing Elements keyword tags? Many thanks

Installing LR2 should have no effect on E6.

  • Processing Back Dated Element

    Hi,
I am applying Unpaid Leave absence for previous month in this current month.
The element entry for this absence is getting created in previous month for which the payroll is already processed.
How to process this element in current payroll period.
    Regards,
    Pravin

You will have to run retro pay for the previous month. then retro pay will create retro entry for the element in the current period. You can run curent payroll period and that element will be processed.
