Backing up Entourage address book

I have Entourage 2004. How do I (in easy easy terms please) back up my address book? Can I back it up to a folder on my desktop? Should I back it up elsewhere? Once I back it up, is it easily restored if I have a problem?

File -> Export -> Contacts to a list

  • Entourage Address Book  - change views

I want to change the "view" on the Entourage Address Book so I can see each address as a card without having to click through so many screens. Can any one help??

Since Entourage is not an Apple product, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=33607053> rather than an Apple forum.

  • Syncing selectively with entourage, address book and iPhone... geesh

    Hi All,
This may all sound funky, but here is where I find myself.
I have thousands of contacts that I send stuff to monthly. I use pages to create the material I send. All of these contacts live in Address Book. They are the only contacts in Address Book - specifically because I can only merge contacts that are in Address Book with Pages (which blows, but is a whole other issue).
I use entourage for all my "real" contacts. Folks I contact every day, associates, family, etc.
Enter, my iPhone. Now I want to sync all my "Real" contacts (from entourage) with my iPhone. I just want my iPhone to sync with entourage, not all those contacts that live in my Address Book. Now I realize I can selectively sync just certain groups in the Address Book with the iphone, however, if I sync entourage and the address book, all those thousands of contacts really slow down entourage and even filtering them out can be a waiting game.
So, in a perfect world, I would be able to sync my iPhone directly with entourage. Or, in a slightly less perfect but still happy world, I would be able to sync entourage with the Address Book, but selectively keep all those thousands of contacts in the address book from syncing with entourage.
Does anyone see a way out of this?
    R

I am looking for an answer to a similar question. I use iCal and Address Book for family and personal calendars and contacts; I use Entourage for business calendars and contacts. I was successfully using Entourage 2004 to sync calendar events and contacts between my Mac and my Treo 650. I have now upgraded to Entourage 2008, which abandoned the direct sync conduit to the Treo. I am now forced to sync via iCal and Address Book. Which means that I seem to have a choice between (1) no longer syncing data between my Treo and my Mac or (2) accepting that all my Address Book data will land up in Entourage where I don't want it to be. (I can selectively choose which iCal calendars
Does anybody know of a solution for this? From reading through the forums, it appears that this problem is not specific to the Treo or Palm OS, but affects any type of sync between Entourage and a wireless device.

  • How do I restore Snow Leopard to access LOCAL entourage address book files?

    Hi,
So in a fit of happiness I decided to upgrade to Lion today. Big mistake. I now realize that my entourage email does not work (Yes, I realize that mail now supports exchange accounts that's fantastic moving forward but...)
I have two email address groups set up in my old entourage which I desperately need for work. I guess they were "local" in my address books on my computer. SO here's my problem: how do I restore to snow leopard so I can use my time machine backup but still keep what was "local" on my mac?
I guess my basic question is does my time machine have EVERYTHING that was on my hard drive? I don't want to get rid of Lion, re-install Snow Leopard and then realize the exact two address book groups on my local computer no longer exist.
How do I re-install Snow Leopard and then restore my entire system?
What a waste of time my entire day was today. FML.
Thank you for your time & help.
    Michelle.

If installing Lion did this, then it's pure coincidence, as an install of Lion does not affect the files and settings of third party apps.  Your Entourage database is stored in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/ Entourage Identities

  • Strange Entourage/Address Book synching problem

    Hi,
Has anyone else seen this? I'm using the Sync Services preference within Entourage to synchronize the Entourage and Address Book contact lists. I've done this with several computers before, with no problems. But on this particular computer (running 10.4.11 and Office 2004) whenever a synch takes place, within the Address Book titles appear before the first name in all the contacts. The fields in Entourage are all correctly entered in. This would be just a small annoyance, except that of course subsequent iPhone/Address Book synchs result in everyone's title showing up on the iPhone as well.
I've made sure that the Title field is on the Address Book layout (and it is, beside Company, below First Name and Last Name), tried ditching the Address Book folder within Application Support, running the PocketMac SyncClean utility to clean out the Sync Services cache, deleting the Address Book completely and re-synching (multiple times), yet nothing works.
    Any ideas?

  • Sync Entourage address book

I want to sync the address book in the mac with the address book in entourage at the same computer. Is there something to do it for free (not a trial for limit time). Is Entourage 2008 will do it?
    Will appreciate some help!!!

first go to isync>preferences and make sure that syncing is enabled on your mac. once that is done, then launch entourage and go to preferences>general>sync services.. and check the box to sync the address book.
    hope this helps

  • Address Book won't import 3.0 vcf cards, Entourage will....

Hi, Got a few .vcf cards to import, checked them out in text, all are version 3.0 and fold nicely into the Entourage address book... Trouble is I am using Apple Address Book now and it just says "no importable cards found" no matter which way I try to do it...
Any thoughts? Or do I have to go back to Entourage to be able to work with my peers... Thanks!

I tried that just a few minutes ago. It works for some Entourage addresses, but not for all. The simpler ones seems to come across. But, the ones with more information in them (address, multiple phone numbers, ...) don't.
Looking inside the vCard I notice that Entourage uses a UTF-8 character set and there are syntatical differences between the Apple AB vCard and the Entourage vCard. Though, I don't know anything about vCard, so I have no idea if the syntatical differences are significant. Most notable is Apple's use of uppercase for what appear to be keywords, and Entourage lack of uppercase for anything except user-data.
If you have any other ideas, I would be grateful.

  • Restore Address Book data from Time Machine back up

Help! i sync'd my Address Book with Entourage Contacts and it deleted two years worth of contacts.  I have a time machine back up but don't know how to find the data to restore.  Can anyone help?

Open your Address Book, when started launch Time Machine from dock. You should now see the Time Machine interface with the Address Book window. Click on the Arrow Up on the right side to fly back in time. Click until you see the contacts back in the Address Book window (or Click on the date on the ride side of the display). Mark the contacts in the window you want to restore and click on "Restore" on the bottom on the right side.
Time Machine should now bring back your contacts from the backup to the actual running system.

  • Don't want to sync with address book AND entourage

I've had a dormant copy of Entourage on my computer for some time now, and ever since the new iPhone upgrade, my phone keeps syncing the Entourage address book with the iPhone/Apple address book. I want to keep Entourage on my computer (have some emails saved) but where can I change a setting so it stops asking me to review conflicts in Entourage/Address book?
    Thanks!

If you do not want the iphone to sync with the entrouage address book, you need to turn off syncing in the entrouage preferences.
    1. open entrouage
    2. open entrouage preferences
    3. go to sync services section on the left.
    4. uncheck whatever you do not want entrouage syncing with.
This will stop entrouage syncing with that particular program (like address book).
If you want to stop the iphone from syncing with your address book program, you need to go into the info tab when the iphone is connected and uncheck sync contacts.
However, keeping an copy of your contacts on the computer that you can back up is always a good idea.
    Hope this helps.

  • Backing Up And Restoring Address Book

To my dismay I have to completely reinstall my operating system, which happens to be OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I need to back-up my address book to my external hard drive and then put it back the way it was after the OS install. Can someone please walk me through the process? Keep in mind I need to retain my Groups. Thanks so much for any assistance.

Are you using Time Machine? If so, and you ensure you have an up-to-date backup, then you can just restore your home folder when Migration Assistant asks you, by using Time Machine. This is, by far, the best way to do this.
If you want to do it the hard way (and if you run into issues, maybe no support ) then back up your ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder, and restore it to your new install in the same location. The address book info is in there (named AddressBook-v22.abcddb likely), as well as some other folders that have things like image caches (what's displayed next to contacts in Mail).

  • How to sync iPhone contacts back to Address Book.

I came across this problem and found a work-around on the forums, but some guys there–including myself–felt that iTunes should sync our contacts bi-directionally from iPhone to Address Book on our Macs, and vice versa.
As it turns out, that's really the default behavior in iTunes when syncing between iPhone/Address Book on the Mac. However, if you've been using iCloud to sync everything lateley, this will not be the default behavior, because your iTunes won't sync anything back to your Address Book on the Mac unless you completly disconnect from iCloud services.
So..... if you want to sync your contacts from your iPhone back to your Address Book on your Mac, I'm providing this simple, yet tedious, solution:
Step 1: Open Address Book on your Mac, select all of your contacts, and press delete. You'll be asked if you really want to delete the contacts. Hit ok and     continue.
Step 2: Navigate to: Macintosh HD/Users/(YourUserName)/Library/Application Support/Address Book.
Note* On OS X Lion, your Library folder will not be shown. You'll have to navigate there a different way. The way I did it was:
Click the "Go" option up in the Finder menu bar.
Toward the bottom of the pull-down menu, click on the "Go to Folder..." option.
    Type "~(YourUserName)/Library/Application Support/Address Book.
Once there, I searched through all the folders included and deleted anything that ended in ".plist" or ".log". This way, Address Book is completely reset when next open it.
Step 3: Open Address Book, add at least one contact if none are automatically created for you, and make sure iCloud is Disabled (if an account is there) in your Address Book Preferences pane, which you find by clicking "Address Book" in the top menu bar. Then, quit Address Book.
Step 4: On your iPhone, open your Settings app, go to the iCloud option, and turn all services off. After turning each one off, it will ask you if you want to keep the data on you phone. Always select "Yes", otherwise you may lose your data.
Step 5: Connect your iPhone to your computer, open iTunes, select your iPhone in the left column, select the "Info" tab, and check the box to "Sync Contacts"–further down on the page, in the Advanced section, make sure the Contacts checkbox is unchecked. If it's checked when you sync, iTunes will overwrite the contacts on your phone with the contacts from Address Book on your Mac.
Step 6: Sync your iPhone–This will sync the contacts from your phone to the Address Book app on your Mac.
Step 7: Open up Address Book, and add an iCloud account, or re-enable the one you disabled in step 3–This will sync all of those contacts to your iCloud account again. Then, you can also go back to the iCloud settings on your phone and turn all the services back on.
After all this, you should have been able to first sync your contacts from you iPhone back to your Address Book app on your Mac, then have them both synced up through iCloud with the same contacts being pushed everywhere.
    Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for all this, unfortunately it's still not helping me. Last week I turned on iCloud for contacts and not only did the iCloud sync fail, but now with iCloud off I haven't been able to sync iphone-to-mac thru iTunes.
I've checked that iCloud contact sync'ing is off, on both my Mac and iPhone. I've even turned off all other iCloud services on both devices. I followed your instructions precisely and even deleted more than you suggested from the App Support | Address Book folder. Step 6 just doesn't work. iTunes whips thru the Address Book sync progress when it should pause a bit to do the transfer—my Address Book archive is 44 Mb.
I have no desire to waste more time with iCloud, just want it to work the old fashioned way.  I'd gladly do a clean system re-install but not sure even that would do it…hard to tell where the problem lies.
Appreciate any light you could shed!
