Backing up 'Events'...

Can I backup or export to an external drive keeping 'Events' intact?

Why not make a library for each year?
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
However, iPhoto is good for 250,000 images, and can only open one Library at a time. So, breaking up libraries into years can be quite inconvenient. If you're worried about finding the pics from a particular year you can find all the pics from an day, month or year instantly with the calendar tool, or a simple Smart Album.
Failing that, simply select the Event and export it to the external. (File -> External?

  • Backing up Events on an external drive... but FCP don't like it ??...

    I connected an external drive on my Mac mini for dual purpose of:
    1) backing up Events (captures from DV tape camera), especially that I cannot work will all projects in mind at same time... And capturing a 63 minutes DV tape takes... 63 minutes !!... So don't want to redo it over and over again, should something happen on the working HDD...
    2) Eventually store ''finished projects'' with all their files to free up space on working disk.
    However, it looks like FCPX becomes a little mixed up at opening (''cannot open event twice'' kind of message, as it sees it on both drives).  Unfortunately, it will open (for some of the events) the version on the USB2 drive... which is not the one from which I want to create, edit, and finalize, of course.
    The only turnaround I found was to disconnect the USB drive before launching FCPX ...
    Can't believe there's not a way to set FCP to use from the main HDD in some settings or so ?
    (I also read in a tutorial not to copy files other than doing that from ''inside FCP'' - In this case, I recognize I did the backup manually outside of FCP... But yet: this is aimed to be a backup of Events (not yet linked to a project).  I can foresee it could become a nightmare once events will be linked to a project...
    What would be the ''best practice'' in what I aim to do (2 objectives above ?)
    Thanks,
    Rob

    However, the idea of a backup here is not to ''use'' the backup to edit/finalize, so I don't think USB2 will make any difference (except taking longer to backup/re-import.  I just returned a so-called Thunderbolt LaCie RuggedUSB3 that claimed to do 10GB/s but took over 5 minutes to transfer 12 GB !!... (Tried it at Apple Store and it took 3:06 minutes to transfer 30GB, which in my maths does ... 10GB per minute (I can afford a ''margin'' but... 60 times more sounds to me like ... a **very big** margin. So I did not judge the drive worths $200 to gibe me a TB storage at that speed when I can get a USB drive at a fraction of that price. (Just my statement of the day )
    You need to temper your expectations... no drive today can do 10GB/s - and even 10GB a minute may be only theoretical. Plus, remember that many factors may be involved. The bottleneck may be in the processor, the bus and, of course, your internal drive. A Ferrari stalled in rush hour traffic goes as fast as the next car...
    A regular hard drive in a USB3 box is mor likely to be limited in throughput by the drive itself, not the connection; but with USB2, it's the other way around: the connection is slower than the drive.

  • Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events and iPhoto Slideshow but are in an Album. How do I recover or copy photos back to Events and rebuild slideshow?

    Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events, an Album I created, and a slideshow using the photos. This "appears" to have happened when upgrading to Yosemite. When I use iPhoto Library Manager, I see two entries for the Event Information for the date in question, same name, same number of photos, but different sizes. The smaller has the image number but no photo for the given date; the larger has the photos.
    Image path for the version with all photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24/IMG_0697.jpg
    Image path for the version with missing photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24_2/IMG_0697.jpg (NOTE the _2 added to the image number.)
    I assume that I have to get the missing pictures back in Events so I can reload back into the Album. Hopefully, the slideshow will magically be better.
    Help!

    That's an indication that the link/file path between the thumbnail and the master file has been broken.  Do the following:
    1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Exchange 2013: Back pressure event

    Hello all,
    yesterday evening we had a back pressure event in which the 'Version Buckets' HIGH threshold was violated and the mail flow ceased for about 15'. Trying to better understand why this happened we discovered that around that time the eventid 15004 was logged,
    a large message (around 87MB) was sent to the server from an application and heading to a specific external recipient.
    What I cannot comprehend is how this message (if...) produced all this since there are message size limits (the defaults, 35MB) and by my logic it should never reach the transport circuit - could someone please elaborate? my scope is to ensure this is not
    happening again. Below follow the event logs:
    The resource pressure increased from Normal to Medium.
    The following resources are under pressure:
    Version buckets = 177 [Medium] [Normal=80 Medium=120 High=200]
    Physical memory load = 87% [limit is 94% to start dehydrating messages.]
    The following components are disabled due to back pressure:
    Inbound mail submission from the Internet
    Mail submission from Pickup directory
    Mail submission from Replay directory
    Mail delivery to remote domains
    Content aggregation
    Mail resubmission from the Message Resubmission component.
    Mail resubmission from the Shadow Redundancy Component
    The following resources are in normal state:
    Queue database and disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue\mail.que") = 52% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    Queue database logging disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue\") = 55% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    Private bytes = 3% [Normal] [Normal=71% Medium=73% High=75%]
    Submission Queue = 0 [Normal] [Normal=2000 Medium=4000 High=10000]
    Temporary Storage disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp") = 55% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    The resource pressure increased from Medium to High.
    The following resources are under pressure:
    Version buckets = 295 [High] [Normal=80 Medium=120 High=200]
    Physical memory load = 87% [limit is 94% to start dehydrating messages.]
    The following components are disabled due to back pressure:
    Inbound mail submission from Hub Transport servers
    Inbound mail submission from the Internet
    Mail submission from Pickup directory
    Mail submission from Replay directory
    Mail submission from Mailbox server
    Mail delivery to remote domains

    Mail resubmission from the Message Resubmission component.
    Mail resubmission from the Shadow Redundancy Component
    The following resources are in normal state:

    Temporary Storage disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp") = 55% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    And finally this:
    The SMTP availability of the Receive connector Default was low (98 percent) in the last 15 minutes.
    ** Did a Get-eventlog for 15004 and this has never happened before in the past.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jsof,
    According to your description, I recommend you use tracking log to find out why the large message reached your exchange transport circuit. It appears to be the root cause of back pressure event.

  • Backing up events in iMovie 08 to DVD

    Hello,
    Just purchased a new iMac and am just learning iMovie. I was wondering if some of you iMovie experts might have some advice for me. Here's the situation:
    Before leaving for vacation last weekend I imported a bunch of video off our camcorder into iMovie 08. We have one of those hard drive based camcorders which had about 20 hours or so of video stored on it that I had not done anything with, so I had to clear it out before leaving to make room for new stuff.
    iMovie imported everything as events and all was well. All I did was import the video - I did not make any projects or anything like that.
    After returning from vacation, I find that I am going to have to re-format my hard drive and re-install Leopard using the "Erase and Install" option (for reasons unrelated to iMovie).
    So the big question is - How can I back up the movie files (events) that I imported before I left, to a DVD? I was able to find an option in iPhoto under "Share" and then "Burn", which allows you to burn a copy of your iPhoto Library to CD/DVD and then re-import those photos back to your library - but I was unable to find a similar option for iMovie 08.
    If I can't find a way to back all these imported camcorder videos up, my wife will kill me.
    Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
    -RJ

    Hi Karsten,
    Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate the insight, and I 100% agree with your advice - I'll be purchasing an external drive in the next week or two to use iMovie with going forward.
    Unfortunately though, I need to re-install OS X today, and I can't lose the iMovie events I imported before leaving for vacation. My only real option at the moment is to back them up to DVD's ( I know it will take many DVD's) or maybe to back them up to my .Mac iDisk - although I don't think I'd have enough iDisk storage for 20 hours of video.
    My problem is still - How do I go about backing the videos (events) up? Like what files do I need to copy, etc.
    Is there something in iMovie (like I described above in iPhoto) that will easily copy all the necessary files to a DVD or something like that?
    Being a Swticher from PC, this Mac is turning out to be so awesome....but it's difficult not knowing where everything is.

  • Is it possible to have the calendar "read back" the event created?

    You can add an event to your calendar by recording or type in.  I want the event to "speak back"
    "read back" to me what it is at the time chosen on calendar.
    This would be great for the blind also.
    I have the alarm app that speaks back the time back to me at work, which is great.
    Now I need the calendar to "announce"  events to me
    There should be a button to pick if you want that certain event to "speak out loud"  ,  a choice , like the color tabs, reminder tabs, etc.
    If we can speak to the phone, why can't we make it speak back at a certain time and day.
    help?
    I wrote to the google webmaster to see if they can create such a response for their calendar.  I don't need another calendar app.  Just make this phone and calendar better.

    This is not something that Verizon would handle or be able to change.  It would be something that Google would have to change in the Android source code, or the OEMs in their device specific versions.  Or you could just look for another app.

  • Backing up events in iPhoto to external hard drive

    We have photo's saved on PC's and on a MacBook Pro, in iPhoto (v11). We have all photo's from the PC's backed up on an external hard drive, in folders broken down by month/year.
    On the Mac in iPhoto we also now have new photo's sorted by events, named by month/year. Now we'd like to copy these events to the backup hard drive to back them up.
    We don't want to copy all the events, just some of the events. It appears we can only copy/backup the entire iPhoto library, not just certain events.
    Is this correct? Is there a way to only copy groups of photos, labeled in the same event, to an external hard drive?

    ok this worked.....thanks.....we weren't exporting it properly, figured it out....

  • Takes me back to Events after editing a picture

    This is MOST annoying. If I make edits on a single picture in an event, when I click "Done" in the lower right, it takes me back to the Events thumbnails instead of back to the picture I was working on...or even the Event I was in. I'm running version 8.1 - it never did this in the older versions, it always took me back to the picture I was working on inside the event.
    After editing a pic, it sometimes won't let me get back into that Event (the one I was working in) without going into a different event then clicking back on the original one.
    Anyone else have this problem? And if so, how did you fix it (if you did)? I'd almost rather edit everything in Photoshop and re-import it than have to put up with this.
    Thanks!

    You guys are sharing the Library? What are the Permissions on that external disk?
    Here’s a trick:
    Set iPhoto as external editor, then in the iPhoto Preferences set it to edit in the main window or in Full Screen. Then when you edit it will open in iPhoto. For ones that require a bit more: right click on the pic and select ‘Open in External Editor...’ Best of both worlds.
    But when I do use Photoshop and save the file (to where I thought it originally was in iPhoto), I can't find it in iPhoto later
    The trick is not to ‘Save As...’ but simply Save in Photoshop. You may be using Save As to protect your original photo. However, with iPhoto that’s not necessary as iPhoto wills end a copy of your photos to Photoshop if its set as External Editor.
    The only exception this is is if you’re shooting RAW. Are you?

  • Issue with Task Control Call back and Event Choice in WLI BPM 8.1

    Hi,
    I am using a Task Control Factory to create Task Control Instances in a loop
    and then
    create tasks and assign them to a predefined group. I have an event choice
    for two events
    waiting for the onTaskCompleted and onTaskAborted event call backs.
    I have two such operations (of task creation) in the same loop. For
    simplicity I have used two separate task factory controls for each of the
    tasks (because I even had worse problems using a single control factory for
    both tasks in the same loop).
    When I instantiate the process, through work list I am able to claim, start
    and complete the first task. When I try the same procedure (claim, start and
    complete) on the second task, the the event choice for the corresponding
    task receives 2 event call backs. First it receives the onTaskCompleted as

  • How do I move event library from thumb drive back to Events Library?

    I am in desperate need of immediate help. In trying to be smart and help the finace move his projects to my newer version of imovie I completely screwed everything up!!
    I was trying to move an imovie project from one mac to another with a properly formatted thumb drive. I moved (not copied) the event library onto a thumb drive, this is not what I wanted and now the originals are gone. How do I move the event library back to imovie back off the thumb drive? Everything is fine when the thumb drive in plugged in but I need it back in imovie. When the thumb drive is unplugged I get the yellow triangles with exclamation points on several of teh project library clips.
    I tried copying from the thumb drive and pasted to the desktop but I can't figure out how to get them back in imovie.
    THANK YOU for any and all help you can give.

    I figured this out. How simple that I just have to reimport them into imovie. Here is the next problem, now that the Event Library is restored there are a bunch of yellow triangles with exclamations points in them in the Project Library. What does this mean? How do I get rid of them?
    Thank you

  • How to detect back browser event in javascript?

    How to detect browser event in javascript?
    Not working for me. Since i love mozilla to use.
    Working in IE.
    function HandleBackFunctionality(event)
    if(window.event)
    alert("Browser1");
    if(window.event.clientX < 40 && window.event.clientY < 0)
    alert("Browser back button is clicked...");
    else
    alert("Browser refresh button is clicked...");
    else
    alert("Browser2");
    if(event.currentTarget.performance.navigation.type == 1)
    alert("Browser refresh button is clicked...");
    if(event.currentTarget.performance.navigation.type == 2)
    alert("Browser back button is clicked...");
    }

    Firefox doesn't have a catch-all event object (window.event), but you can create event listeners for the objects of interest. I don't know whether the toolbar is one of those; probably not, since why should web pages be able to see what you are doing on the toolbar??
    If we discard the idea of looking for events outside of the page and focus on what is happening inside the page, have you looked at this:

  • Exchange 2010 no back pressure event in Event Logs

    Recently I had an issue on my Exchange 2010 CAS server.
    I was able to send internal mails and I could send external mail but EOP was not able to send External Inbound mail to my on site servers. A message trace on the Exchange online side yielded no error... Just showed the emails delivery as "Pending".
    No errors on my on-prim mailbox server or CAS servers.
    After a few hours of working on this with the Office 365 team thinking it was on their side we noticed that the CAS server had roughly 3.75 Gigs of free space. I cleared out some logs and mail once again started flowing.
    My question is why didn't I get the back pressure warnings in the event logs. I looked at my config file and I do see that resource monitoring is set to true. So I'm a bit confused... I do remember getting these warnings on Exchange 2007 but I didn't get
    one on 2010 in this case. Would have saved me a lot of time and stress.
    Cheers

    Hi,
    Do you mean there is no event log for your back pressure in Exchange 2010?
    Please double check whether there is any Event 1500X log for MSExchangeTransport Resource Manager. We can refer to the following article to check the
    Back pressure configuration options in EdgeTransport.exe.config file (The file default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin directory):
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201658(v=exchg.141).aspx
    If there is still no logs for back pressure, please set the event log level to High to have a try:

  • Backing Up Events from iPhoto

    When I drag Events from iPhoto onto an external backup drive, it copies the photos but not the Event title. I then have to go and create a new folder (Event name)on my external backup and drag photos into it. Is there a way I can copy Events and photos within them without doing this?

    select an event - go to FIle ==> export - make any option selections and click export - click "new folder" and name it - navigate to where you want it and click OK

  • How do I back photo events to external hard drive?

    I am a fairly new mac user and finding IPhoto very difficult for filing pictures and folders.
    I have now got all my pictures in Events and in date order ( I used to have a folder for each year with a sub folder for seperate events in the good old PC days but dont seem to be able to do that)
    Now i have an external hard drive I have copied the Iphoto library across and it has all the eevnts listed as they should.  However when I create a new event and try and copy that to the external drive it copeies the pictures seperately and not in a folder.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I was going to set up Timeline but although I have a 500GB machine that is barely half used the 500GB external drive wasnt big enough!

    Hi Mike, I'd use a backup tool to update that folder, like...
