Backing up FCP after working each time...

Hello!....I'm trying to do a daily backup working in FCP Studio editing a documentary project. I'm using a 4tb OWC firewire 800 external drive, and backup with an external 4tb Seagate USB 2.0 I've already backed everything up onto the Seagate, but I just want to keep the edits I do each day to keep it consistent and backed up so that when the drive goes down I can transfer everything onto a new drive and start where I left off ( I know I can not edit useing the usb 2.0 Seagate, it is just for backup purposes. Could I just drag the FCP Icon onto the backup drive, would that do it? Thank you for your help!

Carbon Copy Cloner can be set to copy only the files that have changed since your last backup. This means, if all you've changed since the previous backup is the main FCP file, that's all that is backed up. The other files on the backup drive remain in place. Read the CCC documentation regarding the type of clone you want. An exact clone will delete any files that are not on the source. An incremental backup will create copies of new files without deleting older versions. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
If you don't want to leave both drives spinning, at the end of the day start your backup drive and manually setup and run CCC to update the files on the backup. Once this is done, and it should not take much time, shut down the computer and all the hard drives.

Question
After a few minutes, the page down won't work without clicking the mouse pointer on the page I am reading to activate page down again. Is there a way to go back to page down working every time without having to click the page first?

Today, two other users reported issues with the back-forward history list dropping down if they hovered the mouse pointer over the back or forward button -- without clicking -- and then moved the pointer downwards. One user was on a touchpad, I don't know about the other user. Are you experiencing anything like that?

• My MacPro 1,1 will only boot if I resert PRAM each time, and then that does not work each time. When it does boot all is fine. Any idea before I head off to genius bar.

To boot my MacPro now, I have to go thru the reset Pram. Doesn't work each time. I usually don't turn my machine off. Booting in Safe mode does not work...when it doesn't boot I get only a gray screen, no icons in the screen like bad disk etc. I have replaced the battery. My professor son tells me to setup a new drive internally and install a new system and see if the new OS works. I have 3 internal drives with all data on bays 3 and 4... Bay 1 is the system drive with apps only. I'm 70 miles from the closest Apple store and thought I would ask tonight before driving in.

Replacing the PRAM ("backup") battery on the machine may be needed. Here's how, go to page 50 of the user manual:

Acrobat subscription stopped working, each time I open it goes straight to the purchase page

Hi Poepholl,
I've checked your account, and nothing seems to be out of order with your Acrobat Pro subscription. Are you launching Acrobat on your desktop? If, for some reason, your subscription has reverted to trial mode, I would expect you'd be presented with the trial dialog box. From that dialog box, you should be able to click License this Software, and then sign in with your Adobe ID and password. If that's not the case, please let us know.
Best,

• Query Designer slows down after working some time with it

Hi all,
the new BEx Query Designer slows down when working some time with it. The longer it remains open, the slower it gets. Especially formula editing slows down extremely.
Did anyone of you encounter the same problem? Do you have an idea, how to fix this. To me it seems as if the Designer allocates more and more RAM and does not free that up.
My version: BI AddOn 7.X, Support Package 13, Revision 467
Kind regards,
Philipp

I have seen a similar problem on one of my devices, the 'Samsung A-920'. Every time the system would pop up the 'Will you allow Network Access' screen , the imput from all keypresses from then on would be strangely delayed. It looked like the problem was connected with the switching from my app and the system dialog form. I tried for many many long hours / days to fix this, but just ended up hacking my phone to remove the security questions. After removing the security questions my problem went away.
I don't know if it's an option in your application, but is it possible to do everything using just one Canvas, and not switch between displayables? You may want to do an experiment using a single displayable Canvas, and just change how it draws. I know this will make user input much more complicated, but you may be able to avoid the input delays.
In my case, I think the device wasn't properly releasing / un-registering the input handling from the previous dialogs, so all keypresses still went through the non-current network-security dialog before reaching my app.

• Back ground video keeps restarting each time slide changes.

Can I make it so the video doesn't restart each time I move to another slide?

Unfortunately, no. Keynote doesn't have a mode where you can have one video playing behind your presentation images. Each slide is treated as a unit and any animation (builds, movies) has to stop before a slide transition.

• Personal Hotspot goes away, takes forever to get it back, then adds another homegroup each time

I am out of town and trying to use my personal hotspot. Ever since I updated to OS 5 I have had this problem. When I disconnect in windows 7, I can not reconnect withouth messing with settings. When it does connect it creates a new homegroup so my iPhone is now up to group 10! Yikes I need help!! I am working remotely this week plus I am in school full time I dont have time for this? Any suggestions out there??? Went to the ATT store they had me delete the connection and start over, worked fine for a bit, then shut down my computer and I am finally back on after 30 minutes of trying.

Same problem. iPhone 4s w/OS 5.
I activate my iPhone's hotspot (with password), connect via wifi, work (or play) a bit, get distracted for a few minutes, come back and there's no internet, check wifi connection, not connected, signal from the iPhone is not present, refresh to look for wifi signals, other signals are there but not iPhone's. The hotspot simply goes away.
I ditched another isp with spotty service with the intention of connecting my pc and iPad to the internet via my iPhone. Did I make a big mistake thinking my iPhone hotspot would be more stable?

• Can't get Back to My Mac working in Time Capsule

I just bought a brand new Airport Time Capsule. The internet works. It's the sole router in the network. I wanted to set up Back to My Mac. When I try to enter my apple id and credentials, I get a cryptic error: "An error occurred signing in."
And that's it. No other hints on what's wrong or how to fix it.

• Dreamweaver CC leaves immediately after opening each time on my computer, Do you have a solution?

I just installed CC dreamweaver, Mac OS 10.7.2 on my MacBook Pro, and he left after opening at each launch. Knowing that I reinstalled the second faith on my computer, Do you have a solution?

You can try the following KB article with the usual #12 and #4 and go through the rest if necessary:

See if that helps. There is one more potential solution, but let's take this one step at a time.

• Back button doesn't work first time

I'm running 3.6.16 under Windows 7 on a Dell laptop. For about the last few weeks I've found when Firefox is loaded and I move from the home page to another, the Back button remains greyed out and I can't go back to the home page. This is true no matter what I set as my home page. After this first transition, the Back button works for the second and all subsequent transitions. That is, as soon as I load the third page in a session the Back button is enabled.
This was the case in 3.6.15 and 3.6.16. I don't remember whether the problem started exactly when I upgraded from 3.6.14 to 3.6.15 or not.

I had the same problem. Disabling the MacAfee Site Advisor plug-in fixed it.

• Failover not working each time

We have a 2 node rac on solaris 10, oracle 11.1.0.7.
We are executing the tests from the Rac Assurance Metalink test plan and find that our service and select query correctly fail over when we create an instance failure for database, for asm or when we have node failure. However the select query does not failover when we unplug all cables for public network or when we pull cables on private interconnect. In these cases we do see vip relocated, but select query hangs.
Below attached the service config and client tnsnames entry for sqlplus. Should service be 'preferred' on both nodes? And is TAF supposed to occur when we execute the network tests for public and private? Or are we only expecting client TAF when we have instance/node failure - and so the network interfaces are available on both nodes?

• Time Machine backs up the entire system each time.

Every time time machine backs up the system, it backs up EVERYTHING instead of only backing up the new stuff. What is wrong?

TM always appears to back up everything, but normally only backs up a few MB.
How much does it say it's backing up? (click the clock icon in the menu bar, or go to >System Preferences...>Time Machine to see while it's backing up).
Good luck!

• I loaded the new version of firefox and now yahoo will not open up the email it only shows login and goes back to main sign in each time.

the log in in comes up and sys login.yahoo...nd%3d13d5f2 and it keep s repeating series of numbers but never opens. It shows my name and says i have mail but as soon as i click on mail it takes me back to login page

That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• Backing up 10GB each time

I don't know if this is a problem with Time Capsule or Time Machine, but each time it backs up my computer it is backing up 10.5 GB. I only have around 38 GB used on my hard drive. It did the initial backup fine and worked for several days. They suddenly it started backing up 10.5 GB each time. I allowed it once, but won't continue to let it do it. I turned Time Machine off. It will eat up my HD in no time, not to mention that it takes way longer.

I've been using Time Machine wirelessly for several weeks now. It works great so long as you don't have any huge files that change frequently. Examples include a Parallels virtual hard disk, a large Filemaker database, an Entourage database, etc. When I started running Parallels my hourly backups jumped up to 8 to 9 Gigabytes. That drags down your WiFi network and takes a long time to complete.
You can go to Time Machine Preferences, click the Options button, and exclude files like that from your backup. However, that's not great because those files are then not backed up by Time Machine and must be manually backed up separately.
I think what's needed here is a Time Machine enhancement from Apple. Instead of only giving us the option to exclude a file, give us another option which is to only back this file up once a day at 2:00 AM.

• Beachball in about 7 seconds each time I open iPhoto '09

My mac crashed yesterday while I had iPhoto open. After this, each time I open it, it freezes and I get that nasty beachball. I tried to do some research to see if I could avoid asking any questions, so I:
-moved the cache to the trash and emptied
-moved the preference file to the trash and emptied
-used iPhoto Library Manager to repair
-created new Library and tried to move original one into it
Any way I slice it, iPhoto freezes and I have to force quit.
Please help me troubeshoot (fix).
Thanks!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Does the new library work if you just import a few photos at a time? It if does then the original library is damaged and may not be repairable. If the new library also crashes, etc. log into another account on your Mac, create a test library and see if iPhoto will launch and work as it should there. If not then a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder before installing iPhoto.
If iPhoto works in the other Mac account OK your primary account is the culprit. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
