Backing up from Aperture Proper

I'm in a real bind! Did a photo shoot Sunday and a newspaper wants some of those pics. Down loaded them and Aperture got real weird spinning ball and I had to Force quit. I went to do another shoot and formatted my card. (dumb I know) When I started Aperture up again all the photos were gone. I have two external HD for vaults and all the pics except a gig or so from the last few days are fine.
I can see on the main drive that Aperture has 36 g of pics and my vaults have 35. Aperture won't let me back up from there... only from the vaults. When I try to open it Aperture starts up which is blank.
Is there a way to get into the main library. I really need those pics!
Thanks in advance!
Rob

Okay, I think I have figured it out and hopefully this may help others.
I down loaded about 100 pics. I start to edit and Aperture crashes. I have not backed up yet. Aperture was wonky anyway so I re start the computer hoping this will help. I re start Aperture and it is blank. I lose pics that were to be published YIKES!
I use back up to restore...does great except for the 22 pics that weren't backed up and of course they were the ones the news paper wants.
Explanation: My library was originally in my picture folder in Finder. It got too big so I transferred it to my other # 2 internal HD and trashed the one in the pictures folder.
Somehow when the crashing went on in Aperture and I restarted... Aperture it defaulted to my picture folder in Finder which was blank. I panic and don't check where the real library folder is.
After I did the restore thing I went to preferences and noticed my library is now in my pictures folder on the main drive, which is empty. I change it to my other HD and the pics are back.
What can I say... I am a photographer who is used to storing physical negatives and contact sheets not digital files.

  • Going back/away from aperture

i have this problem with importing DNGs with all my settings (see my other post).
that made me think, what if in a year or two i decide to migrate away from aperture to another software (lightroom, captureone, unknown)?
is it possible to export your files/adjustment/settings and import them in another application?
i don't seem to be able to do it, as of now.
also, how do you make IVMP to read aperture adjustments? not keywords, image adjustments.
    thanks,
    @lberto

I'm not sure how helpful this will be Alberto, as your needs for metadata probably overshadow mine. Plus I have a RAW supported camera: key issue!!!
Prior to Aperture, I used PS CS2/ACR/Bridge combo. I set date/time in camera and diligently changed for time zones.
Import from CF card to "Unprocessed" folder under project/event under location under year folder structure
Rename in Finder using "Renamer4Mac" utility
    Save to DVD
Select in Bridge, open a select into ACR and save as PSD to "Part Processed" folder
Continue (hand notes for images processed I've done ... ugh) [BTW, comments/notes in Aperture has been requested by some folks and its a great idea in my mind]
Open each image in CS2 and adjust/crop/save ... as different versions for different print or crops. Save to "Processed" folder
    Burn folder to DVD
    Post-process in Pages, InDesign ...
With Aperture .... BTW: I do not generate Previews until I've completed the project
    Copy CF card to disk
    Burn DVD
Import from disk to new Project: name files using import naming options (I tend to use custom). Add Copyright and keywords (I tend to add a superset and then remove ad hoc later). Set auto-stack time to make as much sense as possible (adjust discrepancies manually later). Then import.
    First pass:
Scan images sequentially and reject, or mark as 1*, 3*, 5*. Note that Aperture caches the next/last images so this speeds up image "Loading" times considerably.
    Adjust any stack membership
    Second pass:
Adjust RAW settings ad hoc (for shadowy or very bright or shiny surface images I use different RAW presets)
Adjust for any exposure, levels, shadow/highlight, WB etc.
    Adjust straighten then dust
    Create different crop versions
Amend * ratings up/down and esp. for crop preferences
Alter keywords (delete or add additional if necessary)
Output to external editor (around 2% images) for filters or blemishes above/beyond spot/patch
    Set stack pick
Once this pass is complete, I generate full res. JPG's
    Back up to Vault
From that point I'm into post-process, and I'm doing the majority of that from Aperture direct into Pages and iWeb or from Aperture itself.
Except for panoramas, where I export TIF's to Calico, and re-import the new image, then manually stack with the original images, I hardly move out of Aperture. My use of CS2 has dropped from 100% to a couple of %, and those tend to be for soft filter actions applied to unmask, liquify filter or occasionally I'll use Nik plug-in's or clone stamp and healing brushes with pen sensitivity.
As I said up front, I'm not sure how useful this will be. I didn't feel a need for PhotoMechanic or iView, and my level of pain with Bridge/ACR/CS2 was easy for me to leave .... even Aperture 1.0 with less than ideal hardware was a significant productivity gain.
Working between Aperture and other apps. is likely to be tiresome. Working within Aperture becomes really smoooooth.
So, unless you absolutely must have can't live without the world will end some function of these, consider how you could make do with Aperture's nearest equivalent. Give a negative score to Aperture though. If a function is required, then can you export to/import from at a point in an Aperture centric workflow? If so, score as a negative to Aperture. (If you cannot see how to interface to Aperture, ask. If the answers still no, then you know.) Then, score the things that Aperture gives you as a benefit. If your tally is net positive (and I trust that it will), or a net negative, you've answered your question.

  • Why does a face show up on my iPad when I have deleted it from aperture

I am using aperture to tag a modestly large library (about 22,000 photos) all for personal use. I've been going through these photos and tagging faces. As a sort of "holding pen" for faces that I wasn't sure about in the unnamed faces strip at the bottom of the faces page, I put ?? (i.e., two question marks) as the name for a bunch of photos. Then I went through that face and either put the right name in, when I was able to see the full picture, or deleted the face - i.e., clicked the little x in the upper right hand corner of the box surrounding the face.
Most of the images disappeared just fine, and the "??" face no longer appears on the cork board in my aperture. I can find no evidence anywhere that I can see that the ?? face tag still exists in aperture.
But it must, because when I sync with my ipad, there is a face called ?? and there are pictures in it. When I look at those pictures in aperture on my Mac, I can't find the face - I must have deleted it.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop it?
I have been having trouble with aperture syncing in other ways - I was getting a variety of errors in itunes when syncing the ipad - and so have gone through many steps, including repairing permissions in my aperture database, repairing the database, regenerating previews, turning synchronization off and on, repairing permissions on my hard drive, deleting the preferences (plist) file, and so forth, but even doing a clean installation of the photos onto my ipad (i.e., turning off sync and deleting photos on ipad, then turning it back on and putting the photos back on from aperture after doing all the above steps), I am STILL getting this ?? face.
All help will be gratefully received.

Homesharing has issues that have not been fixed over several versions of itunes and ios.
Only kind of fix is go back through your library and retag it.

  • Editing with Photoshop from Aperture - getting it back into Aperture

I have Aperture 3, and Photoshop Elements 9 & 10, but for some time now, when I send a photo from Aperture to Photoshop I have problems. The photo opens in Photoshop fine (set as default in Preferences), but when I save the file in Photoshop, it simply opens a 'save as' dialogue, and expects me to save the file on my hard drive somewhere. Even doing this doesn't 'send the edited photo' back to Aperture as it should.
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious! Can anyone help?
    Thanks...

I got the same "save as" window the OP did when I pressed Cmd-S (save). I even cancelled out the first time, thinking I'd accidentally pressed Cmd-Shift-S (save as), and went up to the menu to select Save to be sure. The dialogue box still came up.
You can see the file (a PSD in my case) along with with the masters listed in the folder that the dialogue box defaults to, so it's not an issue with the file not being saved upon creation by Aperture. The file does already exist. Trying to save it prompts a "save as" style dialogue box though, as if it wants you to save it as another version. It's weird.
I'm pretty new to Aperture, so I don't know for sure that this pop-up save window behaviour is new, but it sounds like it is (the manual doesn't mention it). Until someone states they are experiencing this with Snow Leopard, my guess is that it's a Lion/versions thing.

  • Round trip from Aperture to PS CS3 and back problem

Hi everyone; I hope someone can help me to solve this. I posted it before but the only suggestion I got was to check if the processed photo is not stacked under, which it isn't.
I have PS CS3 set as my external photo processing app (exports are PSD 16-bit 300 dpi) in Aperture 2.1.1. When I process the picture in CS3 and then save it(mind you I only SAVE, I do not do SAVE AS) as PSD (or TIFF) Aperture only shows me the original file in preview with the little circle informing me about the round trip to CS3. So the processed file does not show. Instead I only see two identical versions of the same photo or a layer from CS3.( I mean, I see the master and the version with the little circle).
If I save the work in PS CS3 as jpeg and then import into Aperture, it shows fine. When trying to import the processed and saved PSD and TIFF files, Aperture only shows the original file.
If it helps, I am working on layered pictures (HDR) where I use different parts of different pictures to get wide dynamic range. I export 3 or so photos from Aperture at once to CS3, process them into one, flatten the picture and save it.
And then Aperture just shows me the original file as version. I really need your help with this.
I have done this before 2.1.1 and it worked. Not sure if I have changed anything that might be causing this.
    Thank you for your ideas.

Ernie, the photos are captured by Canon XTi so they are in CR2, saved to my internal HD and then "loaded" to Aperture as referenced files.
As for PS CS3, I am not sure whether I have it set up as a scratch disk or not (if you could let me know where to check it).
Yesterday, I did yet another round trip and found out that when I finish in PS and SAVE and CLOSE, then the file shows up properly in Aperture. What I was doing before was I SAVEd if but did not close. Then I would SAVE AS in PS to make sure I have some kind of a version of the file if the one in Aperture fails to work.
So it seems I cracked it but I would still like to hear what you have to say, or anyone for that matter. It seems to me that the SAVE-CLOSE is crucial.

  • When I export photos from Aperture, the pixel dimensions are halved thus losing data.  I have set the export preferences to export at original size, to no avail.  This happens even if I just drag to the desktop and then back, or if I export into my iphoto

When I export photos from Aperture to desktop or iphoto I lose pixels.  The pixel dimensions are halved, despite setting the export preference to export at original size.  Anyone know why or how to correct this?

Dragging an Image from Aperture exports the Preview.  Preview parameters are set on the Previews tab of Aperture preferences.
Are you seeing the same results when you export using one of the export commands?
Is so, confirm that the settings in the selected Image Export Preset ("Aperture➞Presets➞Image Export") truly represent those in the Image Export Preset's name.

  • Some videos from Aperture won't sync with iPhone

All the photos from Aperture (about 14,000) sync just fine to my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2, as do 282 of the 289 videos I have in Aperture.  However, there are 7 videos that will not sync; after the sync process, iTunes gives me an error message that the video couldn't be synced since they couldn't be played back on the iPhone or iPad.  The videos are all 50MB or less, all in the proper .m4v format using the H.264 codec.  Other videos taken with the same camera and converted using HandBrake to .m4v using H.264 sync just fine.  The videos play back just fine in Aperture, QuickTime, and iTunes.
I have tried removing all photos from the phone and re-adding them.  I have tried deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" folder from the Aperture library package.  I have reinstalled iTunes.  I even tried re-converting them in HandBrake to another .m4v file using H.264 but that wouldn't sync either.  No matter what I try, these same 7 videos won't sync for some reason, even though similar videos, some from the same exact camera, converted the same exact way, sync just fine.
Anybody experiencing anything similar?  More importantly, anybody have a fix or solution?  Thanks in advance!

Looks like its a software issue with the latest Itunes patch. I see several people are reporting this problem on the page and yet no solutions currently exist to address it. I tried several possiblities myself with no success. The only remaining solutions I can see are to "reset" your device and try to sync all appropriate apps, music, photos, etc.. once again. Two wait for the next patch, or three to attempt a recovery from a previous back up on your computer.
I do not have the time currently to attempt the ones I can do. If anyone wishes to try and can report a success I think many of us would appreciate it.

  • Massive colour variation from Aperture to Photoshop

    Hi there
I have experienced a startling colour variation when exporting an image form Aperture to Photoshop 3 (for a bit of tweaking).
Please see this screen grab which shows the variation - particularly the desaturated reds in p/shop:
    http://www.white-adams.co.uk/white-adams.co.uk/ScreenGrab.tif
(although the screen grab is less dramatic varied than the reality on screen here).
    Some background:
File is a raw file with some basic adjustments made in Aperture
I then right-clicked on the version made in Aperture and selected "edit with" Photoshop CS3
Can anyone help me explain the variation?
If I want to get this image printed and I export it from Aperture will it retain the lovely saturated reds - or look more like the photoshop version?!
    Help!
    Kind regards
    Robert

have checked soft-proofing is off in Photoshop
Configuring Photoshop for compatible assumptions is complex. The first ICC-enabled version was 6 and it introduced dialogues including Colour Settings, Proof Setup, Proof Colours, Print with Preview > Colour Management on top of the old PostScript colour management model and the even older PostScript level 1 model where transfer curves and frequency algorithms get programmed into Encapsulated PostScript and change the calibration of the raster image processor at runtime.
The controls are here and there technically non-sensical. A couple of critical controls are Simulate > Paper White and Simulate > Ink Black. The English is non-sense, so the localisations are non-sense. If EU localisations are inverted back into English, they read Simulate > White Paper and Simulate > Black Ink - including the German localisation that one would suppose the good people at Heidelberg, FOGRA and Bundesverband Druck und Medien would have had their beady eyes on.
Why is the English technical non-sense? Because in a colour test chart there is a null colourant patch where the spectrophotometer measures the colour of the paper itself (its L* lightness and its ab hue and chroma); a patch where the colourant combination is C100 M100 Y100 K100 which is where the spectrophometer measures maximum process black; and a patch where the colourant is K100 where the spectrophotometer measures black solid and solo.
Process black in C100 M100 Y100 K100 is what Photoshop uses in Simulate > Ink Black and the colour of paper measured in the null colourant patch is used in Simulate > Paper White. There were discussions with Adobe in 2004 and again in the following, but I stopped trying to get them to change either their localisations or their source English - let alone the multiple modal dialogues for controlling rendering intent configurations.
With regard to Aperture, the idea of allowing the enduser to apply a gamma correction on top of the colour management input-output is not a good idea. It helps the one person who doesn't have proper studio lighting for a display-print match, but it does not help the colour management process with other people in a workgroup.

  • How to sync both from hard drive folders and from Aperture?

I have the following problem. So far I was syncing photos directly from my hard drive folders and everything was fine. Recently I decided to add some photos from Aperture albums. When I did this all previous photos synced from HD were deleted. When I switched back to syncing from folders, the photos from Aperture were deleted. It looks that it is impossible to sync from both sources. Anyone had this problem and found the solution?

I couldn't figure this out on my device, so I just consolidated them into one sync folder by copying photos.
Good thing I have extra disc space.....

  • Sorting order of pictures from Aperture in an iPod slideshow

I've recently got a video iPod and have transferred all my photos to it from Aperture. I found that it was necessary to create an album for every project in my Aperture library in order for the projects to show up on the iPod.
Having got all my projects (as albums) listed on the iPod, I want to be able to view them as slideshows. However, there's been a 'scattering effect' in the sorting of all the pictures in each album: overall, they're broadly in the correct order, but many pictures have been scattered out of the order they're supposed to be in.
For example, in one particular album, which is of a two-day shoot, the pictures are broadly chronological on the iPod but many pictures are out of sequence. Sometimes they're displaced just a few positions from where they should be. Sometimes they're on completely the wrong day (e.g. a handful of day 1 shots are intermingled with the day 2 pictures). It's easy to see that the ordering is wrong by looking at the 5x5 album preview on the iPod, and of course the slideshow reflects that order.
My photos are all dated correctly (in terms of Mac datestamp and EXIF image data), and they're named sequentially (in the form "### image name.jpg", where ### is a three-digit number starting from 001). In Aperture, the pictures are set to be ordered by filename, and they do appear in the right order there, but once they've made it across to the iPod they're out of sequence. I can't see any reason for the new iPod ordering: it seems entirely arbitrary, yet it's the same after every synch, and it doesn't correspond to any setting I can make in Aperture as far as I can see.
My iPod's date setting is correct and the 'shuffle slideshow' option is turned off. (Though I don't think that either fact is relevant - especially not 'shuffle', as the pictures are clearly in the wrong order in the album previews and the slideshow just reflects that ordering.)
I want and need my pictures to be in their correct numerical/chronological sequence. If they're in the wrong order, the slideshow facility is completely useless. I've seen similar questions asked by other users on this forum, but none has yet received a satisfactory answer.
Someone, please put me out of my misery and tell me how to make this work as it should!

Thanks a lot for the answer. But what an absolute pain in the nether regions! The situation as it stands is totally unacceptable, and I really didn't want to have to mess about with iPhoto any more. I bought Aperture to replace iPhoto, not to act as a back-end to it.
I sincerely hope that Apple will address this issue, and soon. The combination of Aperture and iPod is frankly not fit for purpose. And when you consider that the 'free' software equivalent (iPhoto plus iPod) is just fine, you start to feel a little ripped off.
By the way, David, it's a small world! You know that church just across the road from David Brown? My father's been organist there for about 40 years. And my uncle worked in David Brown's in Meltham (though it's been demolished for years, now). I live only about a mile away from where you used to work.

  • Does AppleTV2 limit the number of photos it will display when streaming from Aperture when streaming to the TV?

I am new to AppleTV. I bought it and an iPad2 at about the same time. I've been an Aperture user for years but not so much lately. I am having fits with Aperture crashing as soon as I open it. I mean on the first click or before. I simply can't get into Aperture at all during the last 20 tries or so. I'm really rather freaked out about it. I have a wedding to upload and a few other recent events totally thousands of photos that I can't get off the SD cards. Thankfully I'm not a professional but my niece is anxious to see her photos nonetheless.
I don't know if the galleries in MobileMe even exist anymore but that was my idea as an alternative place to try to access photos from my computer to see them on AppleTV. It might have been my high level of frustration and despair but I could not find a way to move the photos to MobileMe from Aperture (on the day I could get into Aperture). Export does not list MobileMe as an optional destination. It's been too long since I sent anything to MobileMe and I can't remember how I did it.
In the past and even today I've successfully accessed a few of my photos in Aperture through my AppleTV2. Thankfully, Aperture does not need to be open to see the photos. However, my problem is that when I stream through AppleTV I can only get to a miniscule fraction of my photos. I have a selection of projects that will appear on my TV but the vast majority of the projects list only ONE photo in the project when there are dozens, hundreds or thousands in the various projects.
I tried making some new projects and that partially worked. Some of the ones I just made still only show one photo but I made one with about a thousand scenic photos that sort of worked. I loaded it to play during a party today and about 500 were listed in the folder when I started the slideshow. I didn't count them as they played, of course, but it certainly seemed they replayed more than I wanted them too in spite of the five second time selection. I will move that to 10 seconds next time. What I really want to do is have access to large groups of different photos I have in Aperture. I want to pull in a mix of trip locations, wildlife, scenic shots, etc. It would be nice if Aperture picked up Smart Albums and not just projects.
I have multiple problems going on: computer freezes, cursor moves but won't click and keyboard becomes unresponsive, flashing artifacts and horizontal lines, CRASHES galore. Right now I'm feeling kind of panicked it's going to crash before I hit "post message". If you can offer any guidance in any of these areas, your help will be deeply appreciated.

John, thanks for pointing out that pathway to send files to MobileMe. I was looking under Export.
Yes, I know that some of my concerns may be better suited to other forums but all of my problems hinge around updating to Aperture 3 and Snow Leopard at the same time. Therefore I have no clue if it's one or the other or a toxic combination of both that has brought me such misery. My problems cross into several categories. I've prowled the forums (communities) for many months looking for advice.
If I can ever get back into Aperture I will surely try your "update previews" suggestion. I did the Repair Permissions and it just finished as I was typing here. It opened Aperture for a couple of seconds and crashed in the background. I got the same crash with the Repair Database. I'm now doing the third Option/Command option in Aperture of rebuilding the database. I don't know what to do if those repairs/rebuilds don't work.
I have the program on my number one hard drive with over 300 GB free space. My libraries are on my second 1 TB HD with 369 GB of free space. I've been accessing Aperture with nothing else running and that doesn't help. I have four 512 MB DDR2 FB-DIMM cards. I would love to have more RAM but that's all I've got right now. I also wonder if my Graphics Card is toast for the new OS and version of Aperture. I don't know enough about computers to figure this out and I'm hoping someone will have the solution I need.

  • How do I export from Aperture to iPhoto?

Ok, I am very new at all of this, and find it quite confusing.
I took several hundred raw photos and imported them into Aperture. I believe they are all in a 'project', the yellow box looking icon? Then, I created numerous folders inside this project, in which I carefully sorted all my photos by subject - about 18 folders. Then, I worked with each folder, fine tuning each image, and adding exif metadata, and rating each image. So far so good.
Now, I want to bring all this images (as full size jpegs) into iPhoto.. this is where I am getting bogged down. There is an export function in Aperture, and an import function in iPhoto: which do I use?
I have been experimenting with various scenarios, but nothing seems to be working the way I want.. specifically, to have all my images in iPhoto - IN THE SAME STRUCTURE as I have in Aperture. When I did manage to bring them into iPhoto, they all came over in one big massive event, leaving all my sorting and ratings behind. This can't be right.. I don't want to resort them all again, moving them into the appropriate folders. And I don't want to have to re-enter the exif metadata and ratings again.
Can someone please help me with this?

Export from Aperture and then import to iPhoto.
Alternatively, you can share your Previews with iPhoto but that gets only the Preview.
FWIW: your workflow makes no sense. It's like writing your novel in TextEdit then opening it in Word to Spell Check and then copying it back to TextEdit. Why not just write your novel in Word? Aperture is not an editor. It's a complete replacement for iPhoto. It will do everything that iPhoto does, and then more. Or if you want to stick with iPhoto, get an editor and use it as an external editor in that.

  • How do I restart Time Machine back-up from scratch?

How do I restart Time Machine back-up from scratch?  I have a MacBook Air that was my wife's - now given to my daughter for school.  My wife never used Time Machine to back up (she simply copied files to an external drive), so before clearing her files off the Mac HD, I tried using Time Machine for the first time with an external HD.  However, the Time Machine back up repeatedly failed after about 2GB of 28GB of files. I manually copied my wife's 28GB of files to another external HD and deleted all the files off the Mac HD. I then reformatted the external Time Machine drive. But when I try to use Time Machine to back up the MacBook Air as it is now with my daughter's files on the Mac HD to the external TM drive, Time Machine acts as if the 28GB of my wife's deleted files are still on the Mac HD and fails back-up after counting to about 2GB, even though there aren't even 2GB of files on the Mac HD now and nothing on the external TM drive. I don't need to save any back-ups of how the MacBook used to be - I just need to start from scratch with how the computer is now.  Can anyone please tell me how to get Time Machine to think the MacBook is a brand new computer and act as if it's a first time ever back up?  I tried updating to Yosemite, and tried renaming the computer in System Preferences>Sharing, plus (as noted above) deleting all the old files off the Mac HD and reformatting the external Time Machine drive - none of that worked.  All I can do at the moment is manually copy my daughter's files to an external HD - very frustrating.

Hmmm.. Office is not hard to restore.
You have something major wrong (Yosemite being the primary one).
Do a verify of the source drive.. to do that you will need to boot to the recovery.. and run the disk utility from there.. it sounds like your main disk is corrupted.
Once that is complete, delete the current setup of TM and try again.. use the widget to find out why it is failing..
    See Troubleshooting.
    A1, A4 and A5 for further info.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Good luck with it..
I would also download carbon copy cloner.. it is $40, but you can use it free for a time.. forget if a week or a month??.. to try out.. and make a proper backup before you start.. CCC is far more reliable than TM.. and in fact you might decide to simply forget about TM if it works and pays the $40.. because you can produce a bootable clone on the external drive which is a heck of a lot easier to use than TM.

  • I can't roundtrip from Aperture 3.3.2 to Photoshop!

    Hi,
I am having significant problems with Aperture and Photoshop interaction. As a working professional photographer it is a serious issue that is causing me real stress and it is commercially important that I rectify it quickly.
After extensive testing I am unsure as to the root cause of this problem, different things point towards different causes, however at this stage I am unsure as to wether this is being caused by an Aperture software issue, a Photoshop software issue or indeed a hardware problem.
Mindful of this, I am sending this email to Apple, Adobe, the NAPP help desk, Aperture Expert forum in the hope that somebody can resolve this issue.
    THE PROBLEM
When I try and roundtrip images from Aperture v3.3.2 to Photoshop CS6, Aperture prepares the files as tiffs (8 bit) as per the export settings in my preferences dialog box. I can see them being duplicated in the Aperture window but when Photoshop opens only 1 image is available, the others whilst sitting in Aperture are not shown in Photoshop CS6?
I have run the same round tripping process with images sent from Lightroom 4 and they DO all appear in Photoshop? This does point towards an Aperture problem rather that Photoshop.
I have tried the same process using Photoshop CS5 from Aperture 3.3.2 and the situation is the same.
Thinking that it could be a hardware issue or old preference files etc, I did a completely clean install of OSX Mountain Lion, Aperture 3.3.2 and Photoshop CS6 and still all is the same. Additionally I tested the problem on different hardware (MacBook Air) and the problem is replicated there?
There was a time in recent months before the introduction of Aperture 3.3.2 and Mountain Lion that this problem did not occur and the process did work on both bits of hardware that they are being produced on now...
I have trawled painfully through all my preferences in Aperture and Photoshop to see if this is a simple setting issue but to date cannot identify one.
I have posted the problem on the web in various forums and can only find a very small handful of people having this issue, it doesn't seem to be widespread.
Please can you help me to rectify this significant issue. I am  a professional trying to get work done and this problem is increasing my workflow exponentially.
    Best regards
    Richard

Another user changed Aperture to read Aperture 3. Of course if did not update as the app needs to be named simply Aperture. BUT, when he changed it back to Aperture, he was able to update.
Maybe there is an invisible character in there like a space or something.
If that doesn't work I would contact the App Store Support.
