i have a g5 ppc 2.0 dual core. non-intel. i have a few 3rd party software apps such as logic 7.2.3. and running os 10.4.8. is there a way to make a backup of whats on my g5's hardrive so if it fails i'll easily have a backup. i have the original os 10 software...but i want the exact versions of everything the way it is now. i've backed up individual things such as logic sessions but not the actual apps. i've never made a clone or backed up the g5 itself. i would need to know if its possible to do what im asking above ...always be able to maintain the specific os's and logic version etc. if possible could someone explain. a step by step process for this as im not too computer savy. i do have an extra usb external hardrive. any and all help would be greatly appreciated also not sure what a clone is as opposed to backup etc...? thank you

Cloning is a preferred method for creating an identical, bootable backup volume.
I find the most reliable cloning software to be SuperDuper!.
The clones are always bootable and the software enjoys fewer issues than CCC (judging from what I have seen here).
Performance of SD! clones are improved over the originals due to defragmentation that occurs during cloning, and no unnecessary and temporary files are brought over to clutter things up.
The free version of SuperDuper! Is suitable for most, but the paid version is more than worth the modest price.

Based on the description of the menu you are seeing, it sounds like you may be inadvertently activating the Safari right click menu. If this is incorrectly configured or too sensative, you should be able to change it in the Trackpad preferences; you may find the following articles helpful:

You should be syncing wverything with your comptuer regularly. It should all be there.
Contacts should be in whatever program you have chosen to sync ( Outlook or address book for example). Sme for calendars.
All of your itunes content should always be in itunes and included in your regular backup of your computer.
Pics synced to iphone from your computer should be on your computer and included in your regular backup of your computer..
Pics taken with iphone should be imported to your comptuer regularly as with any digital camera.

Thank you for your swift reply. I don't know that this has helped me, as I've reached my level of tolerance for fooling with this annoying little problem - for today anyway. It has been going on since I "up" graded to Firefox 4. My wife is running 3.6.x on her laptop with none of this foolishness. As BLASPHEMOUS as it may sound, I've gone back to IE for the time being even though I don't like it 1000th as much as I do Firefox.
Not just to rant here, I would say that I found a way to put some buttons on the right side of the toolbar that immediately gave me permission to "back, forward, and reload", but upon closing the browser and going out for dinner with the wife, I find on return that not only are those buttons NOT still on the toolbar, but I can't find them anymore. I think they were in "add-ons" found under I believe Add-On Manager.
I did also manage to achieve back/forward functionality running Firefox in SAFE mode, but this meant no No-Script, among other things, and I've grown too fond of that particular little script to give it up.
I've rebooted, restored, and reinstalled, can't get this formerly completely reliable program to work like it always has. Before looking around on here, I was beginning to think it was my PC.

I thought you said you read that support article? The ONLY photos included in any iPhone backup are photos in your camera roll. No iTunes content...music, apps, etc., is included in any iPhone backup. After you restore from backup, you must either sync to restore your iTunes content or re-download it.
The contents of any iPhone backup are not viewable or editable.

Do not delete anything from your devices, if you do it will be deleted from the cloud.
Think of the cloud as the master copy for data you keep synced between devices.

Back-up issues, photos,contacts, messages etc...

When updating my iphone 4 to ios 6.1.2 (I think!) it deleted all photos, contacts, messages, notes etc from 25/10/12 onwards. I had gone overseas and had no chance to use icloud as my apple ID had been locked- no idea why. My phone was unable to be used as the screen suggested I needed to connect to my computer in order to upgrade software and use it in general. It gave me no option to import photos into my iphoto library... and they are GONE! When I go to manually restore my iphone from a preious backup, I can select the time and date that I plugged my phone in (2/3/13)... however once selected, it says underneath 'last backed up on 25/10/12' and then restores all apps, screensavers etc from that date. Can I do anything about this?! I had so many photos from my 3 months in Europe and they're gone. I'm devastated.

Do you have an iCloud backup to restore from?
If you go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices is only one backup listed?
iTunes typically only retains one backup and updates that backup when you subsequently bakup again.

Back-ups Bridge CS6 - Collections, keywords etc.

Hi guys
In order to completely backup the Bridge database with the entire structure and the keywords linked to each picture (so that Picture XYZ has all of the same settings/keywords/metadata) after for instance completely reinstalling the MacBook (clean install), is it sufficient to just drag and drop the /library/Application_Support/Adobe/Bridge CS6/Collections and Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml?
What are the best ways to safely take care of all of the information in Bridge to avoid wasting time reinstalling things after buying a new mac or clean installing it, having had a crash or... ?

Like Curt already stated, exporting the existing keyword list and import again in new set up is the safest way to go and you also have a back up of your existing keyword list.
Keywords and IPTC / XMP data are usually written to the file itself, Raw files use a separate XMP file with the info. I don't use the original raw files anymore but convert them to DNG. This has the great advantage to have written both settings and xmp data like IPTC to the file itself. Otherwise a separate xmp side car file with the same name as the original will be saved in the folder where the originals are stored.
For the rest it is depending on what you are planning. If it is a new Mac with same CS version you can safely copy collections but personally I prefer to have a clean start after upgrading to new Mac or new system version. It seems a bit more work in the first run (and in fact it is a bit more work) but this means everything fresh and not with a lot of older and hidden preferences and settings files that can clutter your new workflow with old flaws and faults, meaning it is a little time investment to have a lot of pleasure in the future :-0
If you want to save your collections try thinking about keywords for them but to be honest, collections have proofed in the past to being not always very stable so if you depend on this for archive purposes you better start thinking about a good key wording and folder structure for this in combination with a proper naming convention (like yyyymmdd-etc. ) so you have multiple options to restore a collection if things go wrong.
Especially upgrading to new CS needs to recache the files again because the cache format has changed every time with a new version. This sounds terrible but in fact it is not all that much work to recache the lot when you use the main folder and the option to show items from subfolders and let it run overnight.
But in all cases it is very wise to have a back up of all pref and other settings from your old system. Personally I always do make a copy of the old user library and store it away in case I have forgotten something. But the Adobe folder in the user library / application support indeed has the most of the settings in it.

Apps lose icon/function when backed up to PPC G5 ... Can we correct?

My daughter's MacBook Pro recently had a harddrive failure where the drive was replaced by Apple. I had made copies of everything via Target mode to my G5 Desktop. Now that I'm reloading everything back to her new drive, I'm noticing some Applications that have lost their icon (circle with line through it) and that no longer open.
I understand that I would not be able to use these apps on my G5 (Running 10.5.x) but I thought the copy would be safe. Is there a special way I should be replacing these applications on my daughters MBP (10.6.x)? I have copies as both Finder copy and Terminal cp versions. If those might be better to use in replacing/installing. I also have CCCloner disk image (but that is taking forever to load - 458Gb drive image).
And, I know, the Time Machine back up was very old, that is why all this copying, etc.
Any suggestions?

System Imager back to showing var, tmp, and etc

Anyone notice that after the 10.4.8 update, that var, tmp, and etc are showing up on Netinstall images? This used to be a problem up to 10.4.3, but it appears to be back.

   I can't help a lot; my stupid Script Editor and AppleScript have also changed. AppleScript just seems to get flakier and it's more than I want deal with much. However, I'll tell you what I found out, even though it's the opposite of a solution.
   My Script Editor won't let me save a POSIX file reference either. I can tell you that you can change (file "MyHDName:private:var") to (folder "MyHDName:private:var") and you won't get the error. Of course that's not what you want since it's the symbolic link and not the directory to which it points whose visibility you want to change. I now also get the same error with the command that you posted but the following produces no error for me:
tell application "System Events" to set the visible of (POSIX file "/var" as alias) to false
Of course you can't save it but you can run it. However, you can save it as a shell script that uses the osascript command:
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to set the visible of (Posix file "/var" as alias) to false'
   However, this is ultimately no help either because you don't have privileges as a regular user to change the properties of this symlink. Since it's not a "do shell script" command, you can't invoke administrator privileges as far as I know. You can't change the ownership or permissions of a symlink from the command line so the only thing of which I can think is to enable the root user and login as root and run the command. It seems that in order to make AppleScript secure, Apple has made it almost useless as an administrative tool. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable and less frustrated with AppleScript will know how to get administrator privileges.

Contacts are in the supported application on the computer. On a Mac that is Address Book, on a Windows computer that is Outlook, Windows Contact depending on the version of OS you are using.
