Backing up ifolder data to NAS using rsync comand

Been using rsync to backup users NSS volumes to local NAS with shares on it. Command I use is:
rsync -ahz --delete-after --stats /local path /mnt/path
mounting NAS to local mount point first beforehand, then using rsync to copy the data. Customer had question since he wasn't backing up ifolder data to it. Modified script to backup local path /ifolder/data/simias to get all files and subdirectories underneath. It worked fine, but it doesn't appear to backup the path /ifolder/data/simias/SimiasFiles directory. Tried running command just to backup that particular directory, and it appear to run, but no data shows up on NAS. Could it be something I am missing in this in getting this to copy the data over correctly?

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

  • I'm temporarily using my daughters 4s since mine went underwater. how do i back up my data on her phone without overwriting her backup file in icloud?

my 4s went in the ocean this past weekend. ugh. guess it was time enough to switch to a 5 anyway. so i commanderred my daughers 4s to use as my own for a week or so while i get the new 5. I backed up her data to our family shared icloud account (7 devices and 50g), and then deleted and restored from my own backup. i also changed the name on her phone to my own. but, now when i look at the backup management on icloud, it shows her backup with "this device" under and my new name on it. I expect if i back up to icloud now it will not overwrite the back up i restored it from, it will overwrite the most recent back up of this device, which was her final back up. how do i back mine up- perhaps just to itunes for a week or so, until i can restore her back up back to her phone?
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks-
    dad in trouble...

If this is your first sync and there is already data on the phone, perform the steps listed below.  This will transfer your apps and other media purchased from the iTunes store to your iTunes library, perform a manual backup and restore, then sync the iTunes media back to the phone from your iTunes library.  This will not transfer media from other sources such as music from your ripped CDs.  As you said you never synced before, I assume all of your apps, music and other media was purchased from the iTuens and App stores.  If this is correct, you won't lose anything.
    Download and install iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/.
Launch iTunes, go to the View menu and click to check Show Sidebar.
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Edit>Preferences>Devices if using Windows) and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Go to Store>Authorize This Computer and authorize all Apple IDs used to purchase apps and other iTunes media (music, podcasts, movies, tv shows, etc.) on your phone.
On her phone, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and turn iCloud Backup to Off.
Connect her phone to your computer and in iTunes go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer your purchased media to your iTunes library.
Right-click on the name of the phone on the left side of iTunes and click "Reset Warnings".
Right-click on the name of the phone again and click "Back Up" to back up the phone.
Right-click again and choose "Restore from Backup...", select the backup you just made to restore from and restore the backup to your phone.  If prompted to back up again, decline.
Go to the Info tab and make sure nothing is checked so you aren't syncing calendars, contacts, etc. with iTunes.
Go to the Summary tab and select This Computer under Automatically Back Up.
Check the other tabs to confirm that your sync settings are the way you want them.
Click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.

  • Help Using a webservice to report back very large data

    Hi All,
I am in the process of creating a web service to report back lots of data according to some input params, I am using axis2 to test the soap message.
Now the problem, the webservice will be collection data from the live database which is attached to a web application. It has high usage and I don't want to affect there service.
Do you think it will affect there service and we would be better to report against a backup database or something?
Also a client can request data on a certain user just a plain string ID in the wsdl file (data returned will be very large user history), now I was thinking would it be best to keep this as a single users input or create a array of stings with a max length (set in a xsd property)?
My idea was it might be better that someone just implements another client with single ID and get data for each users, therefore the request could be called
    Customer * number of users
Or they array XSD will allow them to report on say 10 at a time?

    Hi Steve
It seems like you have alot of different versions of Crystal Reports and Business Objects products and you are getting them mixed up a bit. It can be confusing.
So basically you want to access Crystal reports via the BO SDK and you want the reports to connect to web services.
    1. Creating the Report
Since you have BOE XI R2 my guess is that you have a copy of Crystal Reports XI R2 or R1.
Create the report with XI because it comes with a special XML Web Services data source driver. My guess is that you already have the web service created.
    2. Publish the report to BOE XI.
Using the report designer publish the report to BOE (Save As).
    3. Write code to view the report.
If you need to change the datasource at runtime then you will want to use the Report Application Server (RAS) SDK to do that. If you are only changing the data source to move from Dev/QA/Production then you may not want to do this task at runtime. In the CMC you should be able to change the data source for migration purposes. If you truely need to do it at runtime then you want to do RAS.
Here's a sample to get you started.

10.9.1 used terminal with rm-rf and deleted my user data. Can I get back the deleted data? Help.  I really just need mail file and desktop files recovered.

If data were on the SSD drive with TRIM - practically no chance. If HDD - use DIY recovery software such as DiskDrill or DataResue.
As quickly as possible turn off the drive where deleted data.
Use an external HDD with installed OSX for data recovery.

  • Using TC for back up and data storage...partition?

I'm not sure I know enough to word this question properly so my apologies in advance.
I picked up a time capsule today and I want to make sure I set it up the right way. Besides using it for back-ups, I'd like to use it for data storage of things that no longer fit on my laptop. (Now a MacBook Air with a smaller drive than I'm used to.)
I'd like to put my iPhoto library, iTunes and various other things that I don't have to have with me all the time on it.
Should I partition the drive? Can I partition the drive? For data and backup sections?
I also have a question re: two people backing up to one TC. If one is backing up all the time and one is in town only occasionally, how is space distributed if partitioning isn't possible? If the TC capsule backes up till it's full and then drops off the oldest backup, what does it do when it;s full and the occasionally backed up machine is put into the network?
Many thanks for any help. I'm looking forward to setting this up and would like to avoid doing it wrong!

The drive cannot be partitioned. You can create folders as you wish to suit your need for things other than backups.
As noted earlier, when the occasionally connected machine is connected for backup, it will delete the oldest backup for that machine to make room when needed.

    Greatly appreciated!

this usally happens when the backup you tool was from an old ios version. Two options that you can try is
    1.  Delete the back up by going to edit> preferences> devices & delete back up on itunes & try backing up again
    2.  Update the ios software of the iphone4 & then take a back up. then try restoring

  • Update bundle for 9360 has froze at 13% whilst backing up data, can't use phone!!!!!!

My son received message this morning on his phone saying it needed updating, he started the update. It is only on 13% now, saying it is backing up his data. Has said this now for 11 hrs. We can't do anything with the phone, it wont go off this screen. We've tried taking battery out an restarting phone but when it comes back on the same screen comes on again. Can someone please help.

    Hey martiepoopoo,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
When the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 smartphone is backing up the data, does it say which data is being backed up?
As a workaround you can complete the workaround by completing the software update on a PC via force detection.  Follow the steps in this KB article: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10144
Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • IFolder Data Store Issue

iFolder 3.9? on OES11 SP1/SLES11 SP2. The ifolder data store is on a NAS via iscsi. This works until the nas "disappears" from the network and i have to hard-power down the nas. We do have a newer gigabit switch on the way but until then, i can not get the ifolder store to come back online. Here is what i use to have to do when this happened: logout of the iscsi via yast-iscsi. Restart the nas. Login using the iscsi initiator via yast. Run xfs_repair -L then restart the server. this would usually work but now, i can not get anything to work. fdisk -l shows the dev:
    Code:
    Disk /dev/sdd: 1610.6 GB, 1610612737024 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 195812 cylinders, total 3145728002 sectors
    Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sdd1 1024 3135326207 1567662592 83 Linux

  • Howto escape spaces in pathes when using rsync via ssh?

    Hi,
I'm using rsync to sync my Addressbook's data from my PB to the cube where my iPod is connected to and syncs to that data. I've also set up ssh to connect to the cube and vice versa. Problem is, the path to the address book data contains a white space (Application Support). I escape it using a backslash on both the local and the remote path in the rsync command. It works with the local path but not with the remote one where it becames a 'real' space, so that rsync creates a new folder ~/Library/Application and copies everything over there. Any suggestions what's going on and how to solve it?
(I remember I read something about the oddities of terminal - back when Panther came out - also scratching those kinds of issues, but don't remember where this was and yes, I've a workaround using a spaceless symlink at the cube, but I'd like to solve it within the rsync command. The symlink is just ugly).
    PowerBook 12   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hello Denis,
Enclose the Path with double quotes and escape the whitespace with a backslash:
with ssh, it works for me like:
    scp user@remote-host:"/Library/Application\ Support/test.nix" .
works with rsync too this way.

  • I recently purchase macbook air with OS 10.10.2. I want to use my Seagate external backup plus hard drive for time machine back up. How to partition my 1TB Seagate back up plus hard drive for use with mac and windows pc?

    Hi All,
I recently purchased 13" Macbook Air with OS 10.10.2. I want to use my 1TB Seagate backup plus external hard drive as time machine and my windows 7 pc. Please suggest a method. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I strongly recommend having an external drive dedicated solely for TimeMachine. You could partition the drive but if something goes wrong you risk losing the data on both partitions. Should you decide to go ahead with splitting the drive for two different uses you’ll need to partition the drive either using the Mac’s built in Disk Utility program or Windows utility. I believe the built in Windows disk utility program will destroy the current partition and erase the data that’s on it - I use a third party Windows disk utility program for partitioning and it allows for non-destructive partitioning but warns to back up data first just in case. Apple’s Disk Utility can do non-destructive partitions but I don’t recall every trying to do a non-destructive partition on a disk originally formatted for Windows using it. Again - back up that data just in case.
Finally, your TimeMachine drive should be at least 1.5 times (I prefer 2 times) the size of the data you expect to be backing up a year or two from now.  In other words, if you currently are using 50GB of your computer’s drive but expect to begin purchasing Mac software to replace software on your Windows computer and if you expect to be putting photos, music, and other data on it you might expect that two years from now you’ll have 100GB of stuff on the drive. So a 200GB partition is the smallest size you’d want.  TM’s backup scheme keeps multiple copies of data as it changes so the extra room is important for this scheme.

  • How I can back up my data from macbook pro that its hard drive seems to die soon?

I need your help guys from the whole world.
I am now in Erbil (North Iraq) and there is no apple authorized resellers or anyone who can fix macs, they can destroy them as they try to repair it ( this is what happened      to me recently with My I phone and I pad). So I am left alone to fix it with your global help I hope.
The issue is, I didn't do back up on my mac book pro for over  a year. I woke up 3 days ago, switched my mac and there was this funny pinc ponc noise coming from the lower right hand side of my mac (between track pad and keyboard), the computer was going slow and I wasnt able to do anything even after few restarts. It is always too slow to perform anything and this noise always start after few seconds of starting and keep going. the computer can still function very well on guest account *(safari only) and I don't hear the noise then nor when I press T. But if I try to log in to all my drive or in safe mode I get this noise and none function computer. when I went to disk utility there was message in red to back up my data immediately and take the hard drive to authorized service center.
I checked on internet, you tube  and others..and it seems I have faulty hard drive. Since I am here alone and no service center so I think I will replace it myself. But first thing first i need to back up my precious data. I found few ways of doing this and I wonder if you can give me some tips, advise or any other method to do the back up.
    1) Transfer data on target mode:  I havent done this before but I am thinking to connect my faulty macbook pro to another with firewire, pressing T on the faulty Mac and install Super Duper on the other mac. Then I connect external hard drive to the working mac via USB. And the question is     :      can I transfer the files this way to an external bootable hard drive connected to the working mac     , so the working mac will function as bridge between faulty mac and external hard drive. Also can I do this process through my old none intel based power book(which I am using now)  instead of borrowing macbook from friend?
    2) Buy new hard drive, open my mac and replace the faulty one. then put the faulty one in external inclosure, connect to refurbished mac and transfer data back. Can I do this? will I need to install the mac os from the CD associated with it before I do transfer?
Is there any other way to do this please?

    its here:
    Download the free trial now!
This simple software is free and very easy to use, yes, it makes a 100% clone of ALL on your HD, everything.
(assuming its not so dead it wont copy).
you only need the free trial version to clone your HD.
can I download it on guest account? this one I can login and seems to function fine.
Then install same on your guest account, that wouldnt matter, since Superduper clones everything (except the recovery partition which you dont need in your case right now).
LaCie is Seagate (lacie doesnt make HD) , yes, that would be fine,  clone your HD ASAP and hope it works.
there is no software fix for HD hardware failure, ......this is why a backup copy of data is so very important all the time, period.

  • How do I change my time capsule to a NAS using extreme

I think you are going to need to clarify for us how you intend the physical setup to look..
How do you protect from weather/fire? By placing the TC in another house and connecting to it via internet..
Or in fireproof safe in the basement and use ethernet through a fireproof connector.
Or a tin box in the backyard with a wireless connection to the house..
I was just reading an article on Google reading your emails.. and NSA tracking you.. how to secure your TC from NSA .. might be hard.. as long as you are on the internet.. You need to live in a Faraday cage and have no connections to the outside world..
    Sorry I digress.
TC is not a NAS.. you can use it almost like it is one.. with one major failing.. it has no backup.. A TC is a backup target for Time Machine.. it cannot back itself up.. nor can TM backup a network drive.. so remember.. anything you place on a TC is going to be lost at some future point.. so think seriously about it. Where are you going to store a backup.. and does it also have to be secure from weather/fire?
Anyway.. the basics of this is simple.. put the TC in bridge mode and plug it into the Extreme by ethernet. Done.. you now can access the hard disk of the TC on any computer in the network.
If you close your eyes.. you can even dream that you are safe from weather / fire and NSA.

When I start a backup. Time Machine says "Oldest Backup: None; Latest Backup: None", so it seems like it should do a complete backup, but it only does a partial.
